Keith King joins us on Black Talk Radio News again to discuss the latest news pertaining to the Drug War/Policy. Keith is a retired United States Coast Guard Commander and resides in Kailua-Kona, HI.

He was in law enforcement for 37 years and got his start before the war on drugs began. He served in the United States Coast Guard for 24 years in various capacities including as a watch officer in Miami and at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, DC, retiring as commander.

He also provided 13 years of service to the state of Hawaii, both in the judiciary and the enforcement branch of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Like other members of LEAP, Keith says, “What we are doing is not working,” and “We’ve literally handed over control of the drug trade to cartels and organized crime".

Holocaust Remembrance and the forgotten millions

Today the UN General Assembly remembered the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Turkey, a Muslim nation also observed the day along with many, many other nations. However, lost in all this remembrance is the 20 million non-Jews who perished under the Nazi regime. How do you corner the market on genocide?

And considering that every year the Holocaust is remembered in Israel, how is it that the citizens of Israel and Jews in the Diaspora allow Israel to sow seeds of so much hate by its treatment of the Palestinians and Ethiopian Jews. And how is it that Jews in America who participated in the slave trade of Africans and eugenics program in America are not put on blast just like their Nazi offspring? The Nazis themselves said American policies inspired their policies. The Jews of conscious, who do speak up or out on this hypocrisy, are often marginalized and called self hating Jews.

Tonight I will focus on all the victims of genocide and those who have suffered under the banner of White Supremacy.

Israeli Mossad Agents in our midst

Andrew Adler, a Jewish publisher based in Atlanta caused an uproar last week that continues as news spreads on the Internet about his editorial piece in which he called on the Israelis to assassinate President Obama. In his opinion piece he asserted that President Obama is unfriendly to Israel. While most commentary has focused on questions about the vitriol towards President Obama in Jewish political circles, whether or not he is a Muslim who hates Israel and wants to see its Jewish character erased, not many are asking the central national security question about if Israeli Mossad agents are based in the United States and what they are doing.

Fox News publishes opinion peice written by a "psychologist" who drones on about how Newt Gingrinch's infidelities are postive attributes and would make him a good president.

Joe Klein blasts Rick Santorum for entertaining religious bigotry and racist comments from a woman in South Carolina. Says Santorum failed to correct the woman when she called Obama a secret Muslim not elgible to be President.

Catholic leaders put Gingrinch and Santorum, both Catholics, on blast for their racist comments and stereotyping of minorities and the poor.

Examining US Drug Policy w/ Clifford Wallace Thornton

Clifford W. Thornton, Jr., 62, is a Co-Chair of the Green Party of the United States. Thornton, an international expert on drug policy, is a retired African-American businessman who ran for Governor of Connecticut on the Green Party line in 2006. In the last three years he has spoken to over 200,000 people on drug reform in some 450 venues all over the US, Columbia, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand.

Thornton encourages citizens to re-examine drug policy, challenges the mentality of the drug war, and promotes open discussion of alternatives and public-health awareness. Marijuana policy reform is at the core of most of his presentations. Although he speaks about the need to change the laws regarding all drugs, a large portion of each presentation is devoted toward the reasons to end marijuana prohibition. He believes that marijuana law reform is the key to all drug policy reform. In 1995, Thornton founded Efficacy, a non-profit to educate the world about drug policy reform.

Ron Paul and his views on the drug war and foreign policy have been getting a lot of media attention as he runs for President hoping to get the Republican nomination. Since he has been surging in the polls, taking third in Iowa and currently surging in New Hampshire, corporate media and black media have made an issue about newsletters published by Paul in the nineties. Paul denies writing the newsletters in question and says they do not reflect his views.

Another publisher and writer, Yvette Carnell has written about the race issue and Ron Paul. Yvette Carnell who publishes the media hub "Breaking Brown" wrote,

"Over the past couple of weeks, two distinct memes about Ron Paul have grabbed hold; 1) Ron Paul is racist 2) a racist should never be President. I submit to you that even if both these suppositions are true, they still don’t matter, certainly not in any meaningful way that actually matters to African Americans." Read more...

Who in the black community is standing up to Obama's imperialism?

A few black writers have acknowledged the imperialist policies of the US that continue under the Obama administration but they fail to offer any meaningful solutions. Have black people as a collective sold their souls in the hopes of gainful employment and have cease to be the moral voices agianst injustice committed against the world and right here at home. Many of the loud voices of dissent during the Bush Regime have fell deafly silent as Bush ara policies are continued under the former community organizer from Chicago.

The Eurpoean Union is taking steps to help the U.S.A to impose tougher sanctions on Iran. Where have we seen this before?

That appearance has lead some Black people to proclaim, "he really is one of us!".

Dr. Michael Gilbert has over 20 years of experience working in corrections and criminal justice as a manager, trainer, consultant, and researcher. That experience tells him, "Prohibition makes no sense as a drug-control policy."

While working in the penal system, Mike met many drug offenders who appeared to have led lives otherwise unblemished by crime. He began to see the harms caused by drug prohibition in a human context. He also encountered an increasing number of law-enforcement, judicial, and corrections officials who privately questioned the prohibition policies they were assigned to enforce. These "drug-warriors" doubted the foundations of the "War on Drugs," as well its effectiveness, morality, and ethics.

We will ask Dr. Gilbert what he thinks about the recent NY Times article that reveals how law enforcement officials who question drug policies are punished.
