Once again, Austin Haynes is raising money for a good cause in his quest to be sort of a one-man United Way for the City of Manassas. He’s raised money for a number of charitable causes over the years with 24 hour swims and other tests of endurance and perseverance that are pretty darned incredible. This time he’s abusing himself to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club and Court Appointed Special Advocates. I urge readers to support this man who has decided to donate his Christmas Eve for the kids, and probably Christmas Day for them as well after he recovers from a seventy-five mile forced march. Can you believe this? Democrats even conducted a poll to try to figure out who to run in the 37th District, and all they could ultimately come up with was Dave Marsden!!! Apparently mounting a write-in campaign for a week-old dead carp was seen as too much of a challenge, so Marsden got the nod instead.

Who Is Marianne Horinko?

Voters in the 37th District are being bombarded with robocalls and mailers — as many as five a day this past Saturday – from the Marianne Horinko campaign as she tries to win the Republican nomination to run for Ken Cuccinelli’s Senate seat. Before her run for the Senate I’d never heard of Horinko as she’s never run for office before and hasn’t been active in the FCRC or local political campaigns, and neither had a lot of voters in the 37th. Some friends had asked me what I thought of her, which started a little research project I can share that has become quite interesting. (more…)

The “stimulus” passed by Congress and the Obama Administration has truly done a wonderful thing. It has expanded the number of congressional districts in Virginia beyond the eleven we currently have, and managed to create new jobs in them! I never thought something like this would be possible, but I really have to wonder who is representing all these new districts. I certainly don’t recall hearing about an election for the “79th Congressional District of Virginia”, much less ever having a representative for it.

Peter Farrell Resigns

Manassas Park City Councilman Peter Farrell resigned his position on the Governing Board last Friday according to the News & Messenger, just before his trial on charges of election fraud was scheduled to begin today. The comment from his press release stating that he was giving up simply because he was spending more time outside of Manassas Park reads more like a last slap at the City which has browbeaten yet another citizen out of the city who had tried to reform it. Washington Blade Shuts Down

With the mainstream media so openly promoting homosexuality and hostile to traditional values, I guess the continued existence of “gay newspapers” was pretty much superfluous. Oh well, gone will be the days when conservative candidates could hold up stories from the Washington Blade as a means of inflaming their base voters. Doing so with the Washington Post isn’t much different in actuality, but it certainly doesn’t generate the same reaction.

Too bad The Militant doesn’t cover local politics.

PWC: The Redistricting Battleground

One of the big concerns for both parties going into this election year was the effect the election would have on redistricting, an inescapably partisan process where the House, Senate and Governor re-draw the electoral districts to reflect population changes and ensure roughly equal representation. The concern of both parties was that if the other party controlled the process it would make it harder for the loser in this process to win elections. NLS gives a fascinating analysis today that argues that Republicans, who are pretty much in control of the process at this point, can afford to be fully bipartisan and not game the system to their advantage because all of the population shifts favor them anyways. He’s mostly right about the House, but that’s simply cover for what’s really interesting here. (more…)

Tea Party Protest Dwarfs Organizing For America

“Organizing For America”, the collective behind President Obama’s perpetual campaign, decided to lend some assistance to the beleagured Congressman Gerry Connolly this afternoon by holding a “thank you rally” in front of his office in Annandale. Four days ago, an email started rallying the Obama troops to come to the defense of Connolly, suggesting a pretty impressive crowd would show up to thank him for his vote to gut medicare spending, socializing a fifth of our economy, and adding as much as $1.2 trillion in federal outlays to the budget at a time of exploding budget deficits. What ended up happening was a little different than what most folks expected. (more…)

Once again, President Obama demonstrates his deep love and profound respect for the United States of America in this photo taken yesterday. He actually stood up for the National Anthem, and didn’t fidget once.

Meanwhile, Dictator Hugo Chavez of Venzuela behaves a bit differently in similar circumstances. Maybe Obama should set him straight or something.

I was astounded to read in the November 11 “News & Observer” that Manassas Councilman Mark Wolfe is again reaching for the wallets of taxpayers in Manassas and Prince William County. We know already that he padded his request for arts funding to get $55,000 of taxpayer money from Prince William County and additional sums from Manassas, mostly to subsidize the dance school he and his wife run. Much of that money went to his pals who run an orchestra in Annandale. (more…)

‘Hands Off My Healthcare’ In PWC

With 24 hour’s notice and on a weekday to boot, about 200 people showed up in front of Gerry Connolly’s district office in Prince William County to protest his support of Pelosi-ObamaCare, which is a pretty amazing turnout. Of particular note at this event, one of Connolly’s staffers was taking video of his constituents. Looks like Gerry is about to deliver some more “constituent service” to the residents of the 11th District.

Timing The Special Election

Lots of questions swirl around the blogosphere regarding when a special election in the 37th District will be held. Governor/DNC Chair Kaine was expected to delay calling the election until Democrats could actually find a qualified candidate who lived in the district, but today bwana notes that the timing might actually be in Ken Cuccinelli’s hands. If Cuccinelli holds off resigning his Senate seat until the General Assembly session convenes, it would effectively knock Dave Marsden out of running. Now that’s some maneuver! (more…)

Connolly Vote Open Thread

So Gerry Connolly voted for Pelosi-ObamaCare, and a lot of eleventh district residents are pretty upset from the looks of the comment sections in several posts. My question is, what are those of you frustrated by this going to do about it? I assume sitting on the couch isn’t in the plans of many, but so far I haven’t heard anyone say they were actually going to start doing anything differently than before. I’d really like to know what readers, in particular 11th district readers, are going to do to respond to this.

Keith Fimian held a press conference in front of Gerry Connolly’s district office today where he delivered a tough critique of the current 2,000 plus page monstrosity of a bill that the House is debating. You’d think Democrats would at least allow consideration of some of the common-sense alternatives that Keith and other Republicans are advocating, but Nancy Pelosi is determined to ram this atrocity down our throats before anyone has had a chance to actually read the bill, and Gerry Connolly seems more than willing to do whatever she wants, rather than listen to the views of his constituents. What A Shock: Connolly Likes ObamaCare

Not much of a surprise here, but the behavior of Gerry Connolly just seems like the gift that keeps on giving to bloggers.

Connolly has been telling people that he wasn’t sure how he would vote on the monstrosity of the ObamaCare bill and wanted to get more information and see how the bill was amended. Without any amendments to the bill being agreed to, Connolly was just on the floor indicating he would support the bill. Yeah, like there was ever any doubt Connolly would do anything different than Nancy Pelosi instructed him to do.

My condolences to any of his constituents who were under the impression that Gerry Connolly would represent them in Congress.
