Dominion Caligula was formed in late 1998 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Dominion (Matti Mäkelä) and Emperor Magus Caligula (Masse Broberg) from the black metal band Dark Funeral together with Dark Funeral's session drummer Robert (aka Gaahnfaust). Their debut album was released in 2000.

The band was born of darkness on 23 April 1993 as a different approach to Black Metal of the era, the band was originally formed by BARBATOS (Lead Guitar), ASASEL (Drums) and MORBID (Vocals) the latter who left the band personal problems just before the first demo recorded, but with only two members decide to continue with the plans of devastation, accomplished with the first demo-tape that was titled " THE BLACK RETURN OF LEVIATHAN" where ASASEL assumes the role of vocal leader and his good work is reflected in the dark feeling as the new vocals, the demo-tape was released in 1994 with the help of Jaime Ocampo (Athanator) at Amadeus study. The formation of the demo-tape is then as follows: BARBATOS (LeadGuitar / Backing vocals), ASASEL (Drums / Lead Vocals) and special guest POPEYE (HOLOCAUSTO) who worked on the bass. Comments about the demo-tape were excellent and allowed an approach to the global metal movement. In late 1994 entered DIABOLOUS (bass / guitars) who accompanies the band with all his power and assists in the publication of what would be the second job. After several years of preparation and hard work accomplished by the year 1998 recording "THE POWERFUL ESSENCE OF LUCIFTHIAN IN TIMES OF OBSCURANTISM " at JJ Productions and later CD edition through TRIBULATION PRODUCTIONS in 2000, work that has deeply inspired riffs like an CELTIC FROST, DESTRUCTION, MERCYFUL FATE, SABBAT (Jap.), IRON MAIDEN, MAYHEM, ACCEPT, IMPALED NAZARENE, VENOM AND MORTUARY DRAPE. Diabolus In late 2002 left the band and enter DAGON (bass / b. vocals) as his replacement as a new member of the horde to be the true circle of darkness and who to date remains in the ranks of hell. Also noteworthy is the collaboration of some demons that have gone through our horde, including Franklin (el Caleño) R.I.P (voice) 1994, FRANKLIN (bass) 1998, T. SHALSGEROTH (bass) 2003, DAMNATOR (guitar) 2005, thanks only to those who have left their mark on the infernal horde, equally not thanks to those who have disturbed the sleep of the beast and storms have caused only finally left the stronger and delivered to the damn metal. "THE POWERFUL ESSENCE OF LUCIFTHIAN IN TIMES OF OBSCURANTISM " achieved the goal planned and still sweeping the world, as for Europe were published with the label of Portugal HELL WAR PRODUCTIONS a reprint which consisted of 666 copies that made sweeping. Paranoia Productions in 2010 released the single "THE SATAN'S DEPRAVATION" this is the preamble to the expected "LIES OF GOD" coming out of darkness the March-14- 2011, under the label itself LUCIFTHIAN PRODUCTIONS after 12 years of everlasting silence, this new album promises to be as devastating as the previous album with powerful essence " OBSCURANTIST BLACK METAL."

Devilish Impressions was officially formed on the 1 st of November 2000 by Quazarre (vocals; guitars; additional synthesizers), Turquoissa (synthesizers) and Starash (guitars). The trio set out in 2002 with their self-released work entitled “Eritis sicut Deus; Verbum Diaboli Manet in Aeternum; Vox Vespertilio Act I – Moon Var Dies Irae”.

In 2005, Devilish Impressions went into the recording studio with brand new compositions. A CD was recorded under the technical guidance of Arek Malczewski (well known for his long-time relationship with Behemoth) and Wiesławscy brothers of Studio Hertz, who assisted with mastering. Adrian Nefarious (bass guitar) and Dragor (drums) of Luna Ad Noctumjoined the band for the recording. The result „Plurima Mortis Imago” attracted significant interest from many record labels. Devilish Impressions chose London-based Conquer Records. The first tangible effect of this cooperation was a video for „SataniChaoSymphony” which preceded the release of „Plurima Mortis Imago” in late September 2006. Devilish Impressions then went through significant line-up changes. Adrian and Dragor left the band but were quickly replaced by Starash, who moved over to bass guitar and Icanraz, a renowned drummer known for his work with Hermh and Abused Majesty. Another new member of Devilish Impressions was Armers, who took over the role of guitarist.

Positive feedback from fans and media provided the impetus to go on tour. In autumn 2006 Devilish Impressions had the opportunity to perform along with AETERNUS on the ‘Ageless Void Tour 2006’. Warmly welcomed by the fans from all around Europe, the band had a successful tour and went back to Poland with the feeling of a job well done.

In February 2007, Devilish Impression was invited to be one of the headliners at a one-day black metal festival at London's famous club The Underworld. Short after that Starash left the band, and Cultus joined as the bassist.

At the beginning of April 2007 Devilish Impressions acted as direct support for the Swedish legend MARDUK in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia (‘Sword In The East Tour 2007’). Once again, great feedback was received from the audience and the enthusiasm of the new fans helped Devilish Impressions in acquiring the attention of The Flaming Arts Management / Booking Agency, who took over responsibility for organizing the band’s gigs in Eastern Europe.

Devilish Impressions spent May, June and July 2007 in Studio X, putting together material for their second full-length CD: „Diabolicanos – Act III: Armageddon”. Fresh and complex, the dense-sounding material was then mastered by Andy Classen in the prestigious Stage One Studio (Germany).

Just after finishing the recording, Devilish Impressions appeared at Metal Heads Mission Festival in the Crimea, accompanying such acts as SUFFOCATION, BENEDICTION, IMMOLATION and VADER.

Since the „Diabolicanos – Act III: Armageddon” album premiere at the beginning of 2008, Devilish Impressions has been relentlessely touring Europe as support act to such great hordes as BEHEMOTH , SUICIDE SILENCE (‘The Apostasy European Tour Part 2’), DISMEMBER (England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland tour) and HATE (‘Rebel Angels Tour’ in Poland). Meanwhile the band played its first headlining tour in Ukraine ('Verbum Diaboli Tour') and shared the stages with the likes of OVERKILL, SAMAEL, TRISTANIA, and ENSLAVED (‘Wacken Road Show’) and lately with SATYRICON. Few weeks ago Devilish Impressions came back from the short summer raid. Shows included appearance at Pro Rock Festival (co-headlining slot alongside RAGE) and at Metal Heads Mission Festival (with GORGOROTH, MOONSPELL, SAMAEL,CYNIC etc.).

Getting amazingly positive press response for both – the new album and all the live performances Devilish Impressions is now being described as one of the most promising extreme acts and pretender to the black / death metal international elite!!!

Aura Noir (the name was suggested by a friend and is in true oldschool-fashion a case of bad grammar) started out as a solo-project of Aggressor in 1995, who at the time was also active in constellations such as Ved Buens Ende and Infernö. He felt the need of another artistical outlet, brimming with ideas as he was, and promptly recorded a couple of demos with the help of Apollyon, who would later join the band full-time. These demos were of a more avantgarde and experimental nature than what was to come and are much sought after objects in the underground today. They were perhaps little more than just the exorcism Aggressor needed for a certain type of demons before he could let inspiration of an even more devilish kind roam free, transforming Aura Noir into the penultimate Black Thrash Metal band.

It's been more than five years since the world was last plagued with the Black Thrash Attack of Aura Noir. 'The Merciless' is their third full-length and the first for newly founded label Tyrant Syndicate. It bears all the trademarks of classic Aura Noir - whipping drums, razorsharp jet-black riffs and the frightening vocal delivery of not one but two snarling hounds of armageddon - former members and multi-instrumentalists Aggressor and Apollyon. Completing the infernal trio is Blasphemer of Mayhem fame. 'The Merciless' is one of those albums that becomes more than "just another album" - once you've let it invade your deck you'll have a hard time letting it go. Metal never sounded quite so vicious, not even in 1985. The riffs are of the kind Sodom and Dark Angel could have written back then, had they actually given up their souls to the devil. You bet they wish they had...

'Dreams Like Deserts' was released later that same year and this mini-album featured Aggressor and Apollyon switching drums and guitar/bass/vocal duties between them on every other track. This was to become a tradition for the band, both live and on record. The black and white sleeve depicting the band at a local graveyard, wielding beer bottles and giving you the finger completed the oldschool imagery to such an extent you could have sworn you had been taken ten years back in time. Not to forget the music...

'Black Thrash Attack', the debut full-length followed a year later and a more apt title has never graced an album cover. Blasphemer from Mayhem joined the band as a member on guitars. This was the perfect symbiosis of all the bands' 80s idols; Sodom, Slayer, Dark Angel to name a few, and their own personal touch, creating a very distinct sound. This is one of those albums that spawned an entire genre with its title - Venom's 'Black Metal' is another.

Come '99 and 'Deep tracts of Hell', the band had broadened their horizon with Voivod and Celtic Frost rattling in the deeps, making it even more volatile and ugly-sounding than their previous efforts. This was also the only release the band did as a duo, with Blasphemer concentrating solely on Mayhem at the time. 'Increased Damnation' a collection of the first mini-album and nine previously unreleased live tracks, demos and alternate versions was a stopgap between 'Deep Tracts of Hell' and 'The Merciless'.

Black Thrash Attack

Black Thrash Attack was Aura Noir's first and only release on the German label, Malicious Records (who also released Dødheimsgard, Vond, Zyklon-B, Mortiis, and Borknagar). The album was unchained in 1996 and later licensed by Century Media for worldwide distribution. Blasphemer of Mayhem joined the band for the album, and played guitar on all tracks. Aura Noir left Malicious Records, due to the fact that the label were dirty scumbags.

The band's name comes from a girl of the same name who played a significant role in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and was depicted as the central antagonist in the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller.

Abigail Williams broke up for a short time soon after the release of the "Legend" EP, duing the constant split of members, then officially reformed with an all new line-up except Ken Sorceron, moving from Tempe, Arizona to the Cleveland/Detroit area. During this time, Ashley Jurgemeyer was replaced by Kristen Randall (ex-Wind of Plague). A short while later, the band dropped all its new members and was rejoined by Ellyllon. Bassist Tommy Harwood Jr., also rejoined the fold soon after. The band also relocated again to New York City. In May 2008, Ken Sorceron announced that Abigail Williams had finally become a full band again with 6 permanent members, including the newes addition on dums, Sam Paulicelli from Mutiny Within. Ellyllon parted ways with the band once again Fall 2008 to pursue other musical interests including her solo classical project, her other band Orbs, and playing on a tour forCradle of Filth for became finally a session member of they.
The band recruited Alana Potocnik (Wind of Plague, ex - The Breathing Process), as a Ashley's replacement but she short left to join Winds Of Plague. Again they suffered an important split of members, including former guitarists Bjorn Dannov and Mike Wilson. In 2009 the band welcomes Ken Bedene on drums, Ian Jeckelis on guitars and Tristan McCann (Oceano) on bass. This last left short time ago and they decided to continue as a three-piece switching Ken Bedene from drums to bass. The second album "In The Absence Of Light" shows a total change into a Black Metal band. Sorceron is also playing guitar as a full-time member for Aborted meanwhile Ian Jeckelis are doing the same for God Dethroned.

Un año después la banda toma el nombre de ETERNAL DRAK, que significa la eterna orden del dragón, y dirigió su sonido más hacia el black metal, influenciado por Desaster, Bathory, Sabbat, old Sepultura, old Metallica, Immortal, Mayhem, Sarcofago, etc. Oscar Layton entra en la otra guitarra, ese mismo año.

En el 2002 la banda sacó su CD "La Resurrección de la Orden Guerrera", en octubre se presentó junto a la banda Inquisition (USA) y sacó el video de la canción Eternal Drak.

En el 2002 fue invitada para salir en las compilaciones "From Colombia With Hate 2" y "Athems of War". fue invitada para tocar junto a los peruanos Goatsemen yDesaster (Alemania) pero el concierto fue cancelado.

Actualmente la banda se conoce como GUERRA TOTAL.

Inexistence is a one-man band, formed in late 2010 in Buenos Aires (province, NOT the city) - Argentina. All the art (music and artwork) is done by the band itself. Inexistence has 2 releases so far:

"Pessimistic Thoughts" (december-2010-Depressive Illusions Records), and "Land of Grays" (june-2011-Rigorism Production).

Inexistence is working in a very limited new mini-album, an experimentation with Dark Ambient, this is the EP "Chapters of Isolation" and additionally, the band is in the composition of tracks for what will be its next full-length.

Noctis Imperium's flame was lit in the year 2001 as a black metal one man project by the will and vision of Isaias ‘Aeneas’ Guilarte. Following a period of song writing and recording two demos (one being the self-titled 2003 Demo and the other 2004’s “Night Divine”), the time had come to take Noctis Imperium to the next step of it’s evolution, thus the four heaed monster was spawned in 2004 with the addition of Daniel ‘Hephaestion’ Haddad (bass), Máriel ‘Aegrimonia’ Marín (guitar) and Jesus Soto (drums), combining their skills to deliver Noctis Imperium’s blasphemous hymns. They traveled widely and shared their on stage insanity with some of the best live acts in Venezuela, scything their path with antireilious messages, and the sheer brutality of their music. No compromises. Noctis Impeium didn’t miss a beat when Soto left the lineup. Their search for a drummer led them to the UK’s Nick Barker (ex-Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Testament, Brujeria, Lock up), who was recruited to work with the band on their forthcoming debut album, " The Age of the Golden Dawn". A fearsome drummer, Barker added a new level of brutality to the band’s sound, by producing one of his most savage performances. The album is currently being mastered at Mastersound Enterntainment by no other than Alex Krull (Atrocity, Leave’s eyes), expecting to be released through North American label Abyss Records.

One of the highlights of Noctis Imperium’s career was opening for Austrian band Belphegor on September the 18th 2009, rising Venezuela’s horns up, receiving a great percentage of good reviews for their performance. In 2010 , drummer Jorge ‘Pepino’ González made it’s comeback, whom with the band made it’s first European run, which they decided to name “European Imperium 2010”, in promotion of the “Nihil” EP. González was also on Noctis Imperium’s national tour entitled “Venezuela Tour 2009”, where along the bands Scythe and Landsemk, they played in some of Venezuela’s most important cities. .. "Just how we started a war against christianity and religion as a whole, we now evolve to a war against everything humanity has been led to believe. A real exaltation of one's inner self; individuality. A war against the cattle culture. A war in favor of the intellect, logic and reason, where reality defecates over fantasy, and humanity becomes just a guest in this planet; not it's parasite 'owner'."

NOCTIS INVOCAT was born in a full moon, end of march 1994. Bringin to their land (Guatemala) a new meaning of darkness.

This band was baptized by the night, tryng to make the better they could, “making a creative and soulfull music”, without leaving the path they choose, a black depressive metal. A new breath to the central american scene, with influence of doom, astral, gothic and occult metal, always tryng to keep the touch of intense and powerfull meaning of raw feeling, reflexion of their heavy depression mixing the teatrical way of life.

NOCTIS INVOCAT its a latin name (mother leanguage) thats means invocating the night, a name who explain well what the lirics and music is about.

Their debut demo “Eternal Dreams of Fire”, was recorded in Guatemala city during agust of 1994, this promotional tape bring to the ears 3 mystic poems, plus and acoustic outro in spanish,this demo makes a reflexion and put them in a step futher to the scene not only in their guatemalan scene, and makes a big revolution in brothers countrys like El Salvador and Honduras, mixing a occult, doom, theastral and depressive black metal.

This only demo (E.D.O.F.) was worth to the band in 1998 to made their new step, recording on “Southern Hellish Productions” a label from Argentina, their debut CD “Depressiva Vox Clamantis” (a depressive voice who claims), it contains 7 tracks of the most atmospheric, depressive and melodic black metal even better than their first demo E.D.O.F., showing a natural evolution, well structure song, fast changes of times, and a complex arrenges, mixing acoustic slow pasages with fast, brutal and diabolics sounds, making a intense and deep trance to the feeling.

Also they bring to their music diferents lenguages: English, Spanish, German and Latín, and like plus a female vocals, and unheard whispers.

The new step for them was a new challenge, make a production for themselves, a mature step, involving the whole band in a new responsibility,bring a new and a powerful, even better than their predecesor, and the results was in november of 2002 NOCTIS INVOCAT enter to the studio again, and was born their second effort called: “Luxuria In Caellum” (Lust in Heaven), this time with a new member Willy Monroy on the keyboards, who brings a new blood to their pentagram, 7 (plus intro and outro) obscure, melodics, acoustic, and raw brutal black metal tracks, always in the same occult and mystic vein, who makes this band the most notable acts in Guatemala and the central america scene.

Best black metal album of 2011

Saludos a todos los visitantes de Black_Socciety. Feliz Fin de Año. Esta sera la ultima publicación del blog y para ello he decidido seleccionar, según mi criterio al mejor álbum de Black Metal del 2011. Para ello me puse en la ardua pero gratificante tarea de escuchar, no todos, los álbumes del genero salidos este año. La lista era extensa pero es mi genero favorito. Después de escuchar y tener en cuenta la capacidad de atracción que provocaba en mi el álbum (teniendo en cuenta que como mínimo el 50% de las canciones incluidas en el álbum debía gustarme). Por ello el titulo del mejor álbum del año se lo otorgo al álbum VADA de la banda de Belarus
Door Into Emptiness. Por sus poderosos riff de guitarra, sus voces profundas y cargadas de la energía propia del black metal y eso manejo de batería entre rápido y pausado que hacen a cada canción única. Felicidades a ellos, agrego que es el primer Full-length de la banda.

In the beginning there was a band called Dark Lust so far, which style was a kind of dark death metal who released a demo, back in ’92… the band splitted-up, and the vocalist decided to form another act putting with him the drummer and one of the two guitarists… the name chosen was Necromass! So after the releasing of a 7” Necromass changed line-up and from that moment that guitarist (Seth) and drummer (L.C. Blast) closed themselves into the abyss… Where they have gone??? Are they dead now??? …The abyss’ gate re-opened… Their monicker is now Altar of Perversion and they play nothing but wicked black metal!!!

And here is an interview with Seth (gt + vc) done in october ’99, some time after the listening of their first demo named “The Abyss’ Gate Re-opens” (ok, maybe this interview is a little bit old (but not obsolete) but I don’t give a damned fuck!)… simply beautiful acabre!

Vanish: The first question is fairly superficial: in what period and what circumstances Altar of Perversion has been formed?

Seth: The first incarnation came as Forgotten Stars, before and after mine and L.C. Blast’s involvement with Necromass in ’93 e.v. (“His eyes” 7”), but it was more a project of mine back then, with L.C. Blast as session, that didn’t go anywhere for lack of worth members to join and money. The real beginning was in ’97 e.v. when in spite of money problems still being there, we managed to find a bass-player; I decided to do also the vocals, changed the name into Altar of Perversion and we begun to rehearse. That bass-player soon revealed to be only a stupid average, trendy human, thus he was kicked out and replaced by Rexor, you know the rest of the story.

Vanish: From what bands do you personally took inspiration in the composition of the songs featured on “The Abyss’ Gate Re-opens”?

I never take direct inspiration from other bands for the composition of our songs, the whole process is far more complex and deep. When the lyrics are about some personal experiences I will concentrate on that and try to invoke the atmosphere that I was breathing during that certain experience, to put it out translated in the form of Black Metal. In other cases both the music and lyrics can be a consequence of each other, then being the consequence of something else as well, but your question is not about this so I’ll not go too deep into it. Anyway I’m aware that, unconsciously, some influences are there.

Vanish: Among the tracks, “Black Magickal Suicide” is undoubtely the piece that strucked me mostly, both for musical and lyrical aspects: unless it doesn’t deal with something of extremely personal, would you illustrate me its text?

Seth: Yes, it is personal but if I wrote a text about it I can also explain something: there are some details that are evidently exagerated and some perverted imaginations as well; for the rest it described something real that I have experienced and searched for (more or less unconsciously), being killing my self (spiritually), a spiritual death that was my self-initiation to darkest paths and more wisdom. Other details can be read in the lyric itself, I won’t go deeper than this. The matter is anyway deeepened in other lyrics for songs that will appear later.

Hoest is the creative force of the band; the rest of the lineup is highly unstable.

The band was formerly known as Thule (1993-1995); Høst then changed the name to Taake (the Norwegian word for "fog") in 1995 because he wanted the name to reflect the genuine Norwegian spirit of his music and lyrics. It is also a patriotic tribute to the fog that surrounds the seven mountains at his hometown Bergen. "Høst" itself means "Autumn" in Norwegian, referred to Høst's season of birth.

Vendigeit is a project mentioned by Høst in interviews, about which very little is known.

Høst was imprisoned in 2006 for unknown reasons. His label Dark Essence Records reported that the prison sentence was only a few months.C. Corax (guitars on Doedskvad and Bjoergvin) has also been imprisoned, though for a longer prison sentence.

There is a reason why Høst prefers his name spelled with an "oe" and not an "ø". It is because he does not want to use the three letters æ,ø, and å. This is a part of the whole Taake package

Gorgoroth

After making a pact with the Devil in 1992, Infernus founded Gorgoroth, an early Norwegian black metal band whose contemporaries included Darkthrone, Mayhem, Immortal, Burzum and Emperor. Gorgoroth has released albums on labels such as Nuclear Blast, Century Media, Season of Mist and Malicious Records, and is now signed to Regain Records. Gorgoroth has toured extensively abroad, and the line-up has been subject to several changes - about 25 different musicians have been involved with the band since its inception, with Infernus being the only remaining member of the band's original line-up. After Gorgoroth's controversial gig in Poland in February 2004, massive media attention led to an increase in both notoriety and record sales for the already infamous band. The band also signed a record deal with Regain in the aftermath of this incident. Gorgoroth at present consists of Infernus and Tormentor on guitars, Pest on vocals, Tomas Asklund on drums, and Bøddel on bass. The band's latest album, "Under the Sign of Hell 2011", was released by Regain Records in late 2011.

Taken from The Complete Tolkien Companion by J.E.A. Tyler: "Gorgoroth 'Dreadful Horror' (The Sindarin or Grey-elven tongue) - A word in the Grey-elven tongue, used for two different locations, distinct in time and space.... the second instance is the name of the 'Haunted Plains' of Mordor; the great plateau which occupied the north-western area of that country, a desolate, arid land, pocked with craters and fuming pits and riven with many deep crevasses. In the centre of the plain rose the smouldering cone of the volcano Orodruin."

Diverse members of the band were involved in different crimes. Kjettar was convicted of church arson in the early 90's. Gaahl, in 2004 went to court on charges of "performing torture lasting for several hours" on a 41 year old man after beating him senselessly for hours. He was sentenced to four months in jail and pay $30,000 to the victim.

On January 4th, 2006, Infernus was taken to court on charges of kidnapping, participation in gang rape and illegal weapon possession. With exception of admitting some minor violations of Norwegian fire arm regulations he has declared himself not guilty. In May 2005, Infernus and a friend were sentenced to three years in prison for rape. Both of them appealed the verdict. Infernus won the appeal and was found not guilty in the rape case. He was however convicted of "gross negligent rape" (i.e. he should have known that the woman had been raped by his friend before he himself had sex with the woman - who had at this point surrendered mentally).

Imagine the furious excitement, anticipation and satisfaction that Hitler was feeling as he pressed the ‘on‘ button of the first Jew hoover and began to see his plans, however nefarious, take shape. I felt the same about this album upon learning of it early this year!

The fact that I hadn’t toiled to create the album or put my own thoughts or talent into it probably means that my feelings were slightly less intense than either Hitler of End.

Anyway I couldn’t wait to hear it and within minutes of the CD hitting the floor below my letterbox it was inserted excitedly into the player. Thankfully, unlike the drug addicted and power crazed Fuhrer we haven’t had to wait 21 years for the next installment of End’s evil.So with all the instant chaos and noise of the dual cyclone Jew buster, End plunge recklessly into Catastrophe like an invasion of Poland; without warning and with devastating speed.

The first thing you’ll notice is that it sounds tons heavier and much cleaner than 2003′s II and much more aggressive. Quite what they’ve been doing for 6 years is now brutally obvious: refining and improving their technique, delivery and sound. The vocals tear shreds into the air around you mixing up painful sounding screaming with deeper more guttural bellowing. The song rides a wave of intense negativity that builds savagely towards the end.

‘Self Eating Mass’ drops the tempo a couple of notches.It’s good to see song titles that are imaginitive and thought provoking these days, in the face of an overdose of Satan hailing. The momentum from track 1 is upheld despite the brakes being applied. Until about half way through when it get a bit soft, slow and floppy with picked guitars (still distorted) and grumpy bickering singing. This goes on for the rest of the song for some reason and seems a bit pointless other than to add atmosphere that it dosen’t really need.

However, ‘Still In Flesh’ makes you forget that with a massivley melancholy riff reminiscent of some of Watain’s finer moments. It is dark and depressing and would fit well into an independant movie. It picks up later on with a sudden shift back to aggression, made most welcome by the first part of the tune and finishes in a catchy flurry.

I’m all for experimentation and think that bands need room to explore different shit but ‘In The Womb of Sick’ took me totally by surprise. The opening section doesn’t sound much like Black Metal even though there are some good riffs in it. It gets better but feels like a song they just threw together. Next up is ‘Lavish Gloom’ which is a stompy affair to begin with but also feels a bit like an outstretched arm to mainstream acceptance with the last 2 minutes comprising of relatively nicey nicey stuff.

‘Ugly and Bygone’ pulls it back together and is a good solid song. ‘The Largest Hearse’ revs the CD back to normal with some good ol’ dirty foot tapping grimness and paves the way for the finale entitled ‘Megalomania’ which is just as exciting and satisfying as the opening track. This really saves the album in my opinion because it could have gone horribly wrong and been sucked into the same internment area as Satyricon and Keep of Kalessin. I only hope that End don’t fall into that on their next album.

Like Hitler, End have had some good ideas and some not so good ones and hopefully neither will result in a world war or genocide although you can never be 100% sure of that. III is a good album. Well written and produced and I’m sure it will push End up the list of accomplished bands of the latest wave of Black Metal and is well worth checking out.
