Great question. Thanks for asking!
Android applications that leverage native libraries are typically more integrated with the native Android experience. Their usability, in other words, is very Android-like. As you know, BlackBerry 10 has its own look & feel, and more importantly, it has its own flow. The best applications, regardless of platform, are the ones that integrate well and flow with the platform. They make sense and behave the way you would expect the underlying OS and its core applications to behave. Therefore, we have carefully designed and built a complete native platform and UI framework specifically for this purpose and applications that want this deeper integration are encouraged to use BlackBerry native libraries. The BlackBerry experience has a very different feel and flow to it than the Android experience.

I'd love to help, so let me know what needs doing. In particular, I'm interested in the HTML5 things. I have contributed a little via "issues" on gitHub, but never heard anything back from RIM after filling out the Contribution Agreement and sending it in to them.

It is very nice to see such an awesome implementation of android's VM alongside another OS, A thing which troubles me is, will we ever see native library support ? I know it works but not sure why it is not fully exposed to non-debug applications (or why such a decision)

We're focusing on making sure all previously supported features are available and working correctly. Once that's complete, we'll start to look at new API features. You can start testing the update Runtime with the new 10.2 autoloaders.

The 10.1 WebWorks SDK continues to run on 10.2. The core work from the WebWorks team has been ensuring that BlackBerry 10 is a supported core OS for Cordova. That work should be showing up as an official Cordova release soon.

Packaging this Cordova work as an updated WebWorks SDK is underway and we'll post progress along the way

Captive Runtime is not supported for AIR. The AIR 3.5 runtime is deployed as part of the 10.2 OS to reduce memory overhead and increase performance.

I just installed the new Momentics on Mac OS X and I'm impressed with how good is the out-of-the-box experience. Much simpler, much clearer and much cooler than the previous version. Setting up a device, creating debug tokens, building and running apps was a breeze. Even some things on the code editor that annoyed me were removed! So far so good! Keep up the good work guys!
