High School Madrigal Choir and Orchestra students traveled in February to New York City, where they saw "La Boheme" at the Metropolitan Opera, "Billy Elliot" on Broadway, had a backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera, visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, experienced a Fisk organ built in Gloucester and installed at the Church of the Transfiguration in Manhattan, and spent a day doing music workshops at Teachers College, Columbia University.

WEB Du Bois, in this fundamental look at the basis of the civil rights movement, attempts a scrupulous evaluation of the progress of African American cultural development in the United States. Du Bois insisted that there were three things indispensable to this progress: the right to vote, civic impartiality, and equal educational situations. He described the outrage of leaving any establishment of equal rights to an advancing movement fueled by protest and not by the cooperative consideration of justice. Michael Jackson at the Pepsi-Cola Press Conference -- Club 1018 New York City. On March 1st, 1988 Michael attended a press conference event in Manhattan, NY which was held by his sponsor Pepsi. Together they made a bunch of commercials which aired on TV in the same year. On this event Michael offered the United Negro College Fund a check for $600000, which was the entire grossings from his private sold-out benefit concert held at Madison Square Garden in New York City (for the 42 UNCF institutions, including Fisk University), making him one of "UNCF"s most significant donators. The event featured children reading their dreams and wishes as Jackson looks on, they were the winners of a Be Against Drugs (BAD) anti-drug writte in contest. Had the chance meet to Michael and won tickets to his concert.

Turkish born guitarist Cem Duruöz (or "Gem" as pronounced in his native tongue) began his training with Safa Gürbüz and continued with Ahmet Kanneci. He won the first prize in the Turkish National Guitar Competition at the age of seventeen. Subsequently he participated in the master-classes of John Duarte, Oscar Ghiglia and Eliot Fisk in Europe, received his Master's degree at the San Francisco Conservatory and completed his graduate guitar studies at The Juilliard School with Sharon Isbin. As an enthusiastic educator, Cem Duruöz has been giving master-classes throughout the world and teaching guitar performance at Wesleyan University in the USA.
