Lords of the Underground - Chief Rocka 1993 Link to the Official Old School Hip Hop page on facebook: www.facebook.com Here Come the Lords is the debut album by rap group, Lords of the Underground. The album was released in 1993 for Pendulum Records and was produced by Marley Marl, K-Def and DJ Lord Jazz. The album was a success for the group, making it to #66 on the Billboard 200 and #13 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Five singles from the album managed to make it to the billboard charts, "Chief Rocka", "Here Come the Lords", "Funky Child", "Flow On" and "Psycho". The Lords of the Underground (LOTUG) is a hip-hop trio based in Newark, New Jersey. MCs Mr. Funke and DoItAll Dupré met DJ Lord Jazz (a native of Cleveland) when all three were undergraduates at Shaw University. The group released their debut album, Here Come the Lords on October 1, 1993 with production handled by Marley Marl and K-Def. The album peaked at 66 on the Billboard 200 and featured five charting singles, including the group's signature song, "Chief Rocka". The group released their second album, Keepers of the Funk the following year on November 1, 1994. Keepers of the Funk peaked at 47 on the Billboard 200 and featured three charting singles, the most successful of which was "Tic Toc". The group disbanded in 1995. North Carolina HBCUs partner with NC Spoken Word artists to rally early voting DURHAM, NC -- The Student Engagement and Empowerment Network (SEEN) has teamed up with Emmy-winner Bluz (Boris Rogers) and Poet.She (Kelly Rae) on an Early Vote campaign. The campaign launches on April 19th -- the first day of early voting in North Carolina -- with two videos filmed on the campuses of Bennett College and Johnson C. Smith University. Produced by NCCU/UNC professor and emcee, Pierce Freelon (@durhamite) and filmmaker Saleem Reshamwala (@KidEthnic) the videos will be published on youtube April 19th. SEEN is a network made up of students from 10 historically black colleges and universities in North Carolina. Created by the Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change at North Carolina Central University, SEEN hopes to build a statewide network of students dedicated to voter empowerment in the 2012 election and beyond. In collaboration with North Carolina's rich Spoken Word community, Dr. Jarvis Hall (director for the Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change) hopes to connect with younger audience. Richard Keevil On April 21, 2000 Richard Keevil was a twenty year old male who was brutally murdered. He lived at Washington Drive, Fayetteville NC off of Murchison RD. The crime took place at 620 Harveydale Dr., Fayetteville, NC, off of Country Club Drive in the Enchanted Forest Mobile home Park. During what appears to be a robbery, Keevil was approached by an unknown male subject and shot. Seconds after the shooting, the unknown male was seen fleeing on foot towards the Shaw University Education Center. The fleeing suspect was possibly injured. If you have any information about or relating to the death of Richard Keevil please call Crime Stoppers at (910)-483-8477 or Fayetteville police department's Homicide squad at (910)-433-1860.
