youll have people to help you problem-solve. people with information and resources willing to share.

when the community is built youll have more than one or two people you can trust. people who care about you like they care about themselves. people who check on you to make certain youre well. who remember your special days. who cry and laugh with you. who think of you and miss you. people that get you out the house and help fight back that depression...

when the community is built youll meet that special someone who shares your views, who wants more than your sex or to spend your money... someone thats self-improving daily and wants you to too. someone to hold your hand and to hold you closely if needed. someone who listens without judgment. someone who helps create peace. someone that smiles at your arrival.

when the community is built you will --we will-- finally have enough to go around and not just jobbing to pay bills! as individuals our resources are scarce but collectively we have tremendous wealth. by developing ourselves and linking with like-minded humans, the foundation is being laid for a collective economic system to support the great ideas so many of us have, but have lacked the resources to move forward. we would no longer stand around wondering how they own all the gas stations, corner stores, wash houses, fast food joints, dry cleaners, check cashing, repair shops and every other small service business in our living spaces -- the formula is group-identity and pooling resources based on that concept.

when the community is built youll have physical protection. there is strength in numbers. outside threats are less likely when youre associated with a healthy collective. inside (abusive partners or parents) threats are less likely when youre constantly being checked on and theres an understanding that violence is not accepted and violators will be dealt with swiftly. children are also protected and nurtured with the collectives best interest in mind.

when community is built youll have a spiritual grounding rooted in thought and practice with other human beings, to help keep you from becoming one of these crazy individuals with a prophet-complex! we were not intended to be completely alone on our spiritual quest, isolated reading religious texts, studying ancient wisdom and then driving ourselves off the moral-mystic edge. spirituality should improve your relations with everybody and everything not just the unseen. stay connected we need your contribution on the physical level as well.

when the community is built we'll finally meet...

youre still a nobody!

for us not to feel good about ourselves unless we're dressed up or in new clothes is part of our collective inferiority complex based on our collective powerless position in this system. we have become so surface and judgmental. overly concerned about appearance and our image, partly because we lack control of our daily lives.

if your city block was responsible for waste management in your area... or if you were responsible for water treatment in your neighborhood... or if your household had to draft up the school districts curriculum this year... or if you were on duty for the communitys night patrol this week... or if you were part of the research team developing strategies to prevent child molestation... or if you were on the editing staff of the collective wellness newsletter... or if your household held the weekly study-groups focused on anti-globalization... or if your local politicians actually relied on your grassroots input concerning the district you live in... or if your city block was responsible for electricity distribution... or if you were a key member of the community police review board... or if your city block had some say regarding tax increases or decreases...

then maybe, just maybe the clothes you wear or the clothes others wear, wouldnt be such a big deal!

we have got to study the system that dehumanizes us.

we're not speaking about "analyzing" tv news - watching that nonsense is a distraction, produces fear, confuses us, dictates our subject of conversation and is best left alone.

we're speaking about critically analyzing our daily existence.

what does it take for you to live...

theres the basics: food, clothes, shelter, clean air, clean water and access to healthcare.

now, what is required for you to obtain these things - do you grow your own food? is there a cotton or lumber mill in the family? is your community doctor free?

or...

do you have to buy food and clothes from a store? do you have to pay rent, mortgage or property tax for shelter? are you uninsured and hope that you dont get seriously ill because you cant afford healthcare? do you work for someone (other than family), government or a corporation in order to get money? hustle, steal, sell dope or rob for money in order to live? do you know anybody that wants to work but cant get hired?

being born into a system that requires money to live and accepts no other form of trade, positions us to do whatever it takes to get this elusive trading tool. and because we were "educated" by the system we never question it, but questions and a committed search for answers are mandatory if we desire justice.

who are the controllers of this system?

who are these few families with excessive wealth and power?

why arent these same few families required to share this wealth with the many?

how are these few families connected and organized?

why do these same few families own and control the means of production?

why do these same few families own the companies we work for and refuse to pay us correctly for our labor?

why are these same few families allowed to set the price on food, clothes, shelter and healthcare?

why do we do all the work and these few families keep all the wealth?

why are "the many" controlled by "the few"?

"in discussing the problems of Black male/female relationships, it is important to keep in mind at least four fundamental facts. first, Black male/female relationships, like Black families, are no more problem-ridden or pathological than white families and male/female relationships, but given our moral claims and liberational struggle, we are morally compelled to create a context for maximum human flourishing. secondly, it is important to recognize that real life unavoidably involves problems and problem-solving. the point, then, is not to be without problems, but to be resourceful in devising solutions. thirdly, it is important to recognize that not all Black male/female relationships are in turmoil and trouble. however, there are enough relationships to make the question of Black male/female relationships necessary for discussion. finally, it is of equal importance to realize that any criticism of Black male/female relationships is at the same time and in equal measure a criticism of u.s. society [global white supremacy] which has shaped them to fit and function 'properly' in it. for social conditions create both social consciousness and social conduct and failure to recognize this can lead one to see racial defects where social ones are more real and relevant."

"the tape is the image, the picture one carries in one's mind that is continually replicated, unconsciously, however useless, self-destructive, or idiotic it may be.

when women carry inside their heads the image of the idealized subservient housewife-mother-secretary, they automatically tend to imitate the image. this continues until the moment when they say, 'wait, i didnt create the person in my head; who did?'

when Black people invented the image 'Black is beautiful,' its point was to destroy a previous image carried in the minds of whites and Black people alike that Black was not beautiful. only then could personal change be made, leading to political results.

the suppression of indian people in this country, at first achieved with guns, was later accelerated and confirmed by the media images of the indian as a savage who needed to be saved by white, western education, morality and lifestyle. the critical ingredient in this was the implantation within young indians themselves of the belief that this image was a correct one. with that came self-hatred.

only by realizing that the image carried in the mind -- the tape -- is real and implanted is it possible to disconnect oneself from the cycle of taped replay and subvert an otherwise inevitable process whereby the image is translated into reality."

it stays in our chest unjustly...

we rage at loved ones uncontrollably at times.

our option for legal wage earnings have been cut down considerably, its not impossible to find a job but the knot in our throat at interview-time reveals the fear of being exposed and dismissed even though we may qualify...

some family may believe we havent changed, but we have... not always for the best and not always our fault... we've seen things now. things no human should have to see. we've done things, mostly for survival but wicked none the less. we've learned things that humans under natural conditions wouldnt have to learn.

and now we're back home...

where tenderness lives - babies, women, disagreements without violence, options...

but its that unnatural-training that searches our body for an outlet to express itself, that forces us to drink and stay oversexed.

although we attempt to self-medicate we still hurt loved ones too often - we break promises, physically abuse, steal and lie!

this battle is psychological.

prison builders/owners/controllers are very aware of the harmful psychological effects of caging human beings.

using chemicals and television to quell the potential of major violence (riots and take-overs), but its the minor violence that kills the spirit - strip searches, lining up naked, no contact with children, loud tones, foul language by those in charge, rape, no medical-care, "lost" mail, transfers, no privacy, small food portions, no recreation, lock-down, overpriced phone services, beatings by those in charge, access to dope, forced to shave and cut locks, neglect, disrespect to visiting loved ones, cavity searches, restrictions on personal items, noise, smells, no contact with women, threats, overpriced store goods, witnessing suicides, lack of properly trained counselors, lack of books and educational training, poor legal aid...

and now we're back home...

we carry this hurt in our veins.

*note to students: we need more Afrikan-centered psychologists and treatment centers to deal with the psychological impact of being caged in hostile environments.

a sustainable economy

"to create an enduring society, we will need a system of commerce and production where each and every act is inherently sustainable and restorative. business will need to integrate economic, biologic, and human systems to create a sustainable method of commerce on a company-by-company level, we cannot fully succeed until the institutions surrounding commerce are redesigned. just as every act in an industrial society leads to environmental degradation, regardless of intention, we must design a system where the opposite is true, where doing good is like falling off a log, where the natural, everyday acts of work and life accumulate into a better world as a matter of course, not a matter of conscious altruism. that is what this book tries to imagine."

Black People lynched for remark which may have been 'hello'

hartwell, ga, jan. 2 -- two negroes were lynched and a negro woman was badly beaten as the result of a remark to a white girl in anderson county, south carolina, according to reports received here tonight.

the three negroes were riding in a buggy when they passed the girl. one of the men made a remark to the white girl, at which she took offense. she reported the encounter to a group of white men who quickly caught up with the Black men, lynched the men, beat the woman and ordered her out of the state.

reports concerning the nature of the allegedly insulting remark are conflicting. officials of georgia county say that one of the negro men yelled out, 'hello, sweetheart.' the negro woman asserts that all they said was 'hello.' "

we're excited by the news... we feel a deeper connection to you... we tell everyone... we try to help with the morning-sickness... we take part-time jobs... we wait for you to show, to show you off... we wanna be active fathers... we get maternity clothes and wish we could plan the perfect baby shower for you... we rub sore body parts... we wanna marry you if we havent already... we want your mother to love us... we wanna break the cycle... we get the craved-foods... we want you to rest... we make the midwife/doctor appointments... we read books on pregnancy for a better understanding... we hold hands... we wait for the movements... we hear music - they call it "the heartbeat"... we want a better nest too... we read to the tummy... we run the bath water... we strengthen our ties to you... we encourage breast feeding... we spiritually grow... we remind you to take your vitamins... we are never too far away... we cuddle... we ask if youre hungry or uncomfortable... we more than love you... we pray to be active fathers... we discuss the bradley method or lamaze and attend every class... we are still sensual... youre still a beautiful woman... we give thanks... we discuss names... we pray to break the cycle... we find a doula for additional support... we sing to the tummy... we consult elders on parenthood and community... we want you safe, always... we are soft-spoken... we are nervous at times... we want to be here... we love you, not like ken-doll loves barbie, but the best way strugglers know how... we oil and massage your body - extra attention to the feet... we work toward a better inner-standing... we smile... we think and plan for the future... we are patient... we regard the hormone-shifts... we are at the labor - start to finish... we are responsive... we fight for your/our labor plan to be honored... we watch the head emerge and get flushed with emotion... we cut cords... we count toes... we want a healthy baby... we appreciate the sound of the strong-lungs yelp... we observe the babies handling by others... we deny extras... we cry... we assist... we learn... we contact extended-family... we hold the baby gently, as instructed... we are proud... we prepare the homecoming... we are amazed at the little mouth with no teeth... we clean house, get and prepare food... we wait for them to wake... we take off work... we hold each other... we change diapers and clothes... we laugh... we look for likeness... we love the sounds the baby makes... we never want us to part... we find quiet time... we believe... we smell the babys sweetness... we fall in love with mother and child all over again... we give even more thanks for this fortune!

didnt booker t washington and marcus garvey warn us of a time, that if we did not master craft and get organized, that the world would have no need for us and/or our labor? that we would become useless-eaters...
sorry to tell you, that time is probably here...

i hear far too many of us gossiping about what jobs other people-groups have or dont have, that "they taking jobs from us" and that the new code word for discrimination is "bi-lingual"...

gossiping (is against "the Code"), building resentment and animosity toward others over jobs we assume would have

been given to us if only "they" werent here? feeling strangely more american, somehow? i guess finally identifying with how working-class racists felt (feel) when their white-government gave (gives) good white-government jobs away to non-whites? or are we identifying with racist work-union policy, that refused our membership because they viewed us as competition or a threat to the white family's right to feed themselves?

the question of wealth distribution never comes up...

why are there so few jobs?

who controls the job market?

who sets the working wage?

why export so many jobs out of this empire?

why is there a permanent "unemployed class" among us?

why are we still scrounging for entry-level positions?

why havent we moved into subcontracting?

with all of the college education and social mobility that weve gained over the decades, where are the many much needed Black-Owned multinational-corporations that could market usable goods (ex. household - toiletries) and services (ex. construction - home maintenance) directly to our people worldwide? (these corporations could in turn provide the jobs we seem to lack)

organization and cooperative-economics (ujamaa) is part of the answer...

the people-groups that we gossip enviously of, have this political (power getting) understanding...

pooling resources, a code of conduct, shared living-spaces, living modestly - moderation, shared values, cultural institutions (to instill values), investment knowledge, group-identity, people-centered banking practices (people-owned banks), real estate knowledge, functional relationships on every social level - healthy community links, grounded children to carry on the work...

nobodys taking your job, because our real job is to get liberated and nobody can do that for us, we have to do it for ourselves!

"columbus discovered...." the staying power of this little white lie is amazing!

the 1970's ushered in much needed radical scholars and authors, who challenged "the system" by questioning everything... books were written and read by many - new ideas were accepted and adopted... the people were thinking!

"they came before columbus" by ivan van sertima was born in this radical climate, the book dismantled the myth surrounding a discovery of an already populated land and revealed an ancient cultural exchange between original peoples from several continents long before the roman-calender year 1492.

so, why would government-school perpetuate the myth of a discovery?

who exactly benefits?

why not teach the truth?

study then resist!
