Another busy week in class 2.We followed instructions to make a pirate hat and later in the week we made ' maggoty ' biscuits.

This week we have been learning about 3 D shapes in numeracy.In literacy we continued to learn about alliteration and some of us used our knowledge in our acrostic poems that we wrote.

As part of our themed work on Oceans and seas we investigated floating and sinking. We made boats from Plasticine. Some of our boats floated but a lot of them sank.It was good fun and we learnt a lot .

Yesterday we found out about Christopher Columbus. He was an explorer and travelled across the sea.He discovered an island called Hispaniola which we know today as the Dominican Republic and Haiti.It was very interesting and we wrote some facts about his adventures.

When you come to parents evening you will be able to look at all the work we have been doing in our Ocean and sea theme.

Tag Triumph!

Yesterday, the Tag Rugby team took part in the Haybridge Tag Rugby Tournament. The team is made up of boys and girls from Class 4. This tournament should have taken place last Autumn, but was cancelled due to poor weather.

Out of our four games we won two, drew one and lost one (just!). This meant that overall we came joint second place! On top of that, we also won the fairplay trophy (we won last year as well!) so Blakedown Primary will be engraved once again on that.

Well done to everyone that took part and fingers crossed that we have similar success in the Wyre Forest Tournament that is taking place at the end of the month.

Walk to School !

Yesterday once again we have participated in another walk to school.

Well done to everyone who joined in! As usual we met at 'The Swan'. Kate our Community Officer once again kindly helped us with our day by stopping the traffic when we all crossed the road. We hope everybody arrived at school safely.

Hats 4 Haiti

Today in the aid of Haiti we wore hats (some very funny! ) and had to bring in a pound. The amount of different hats we had was amazing we had woolen hats, straw hats, army hats, fire fighter hats even somone with tights on her head. Thank you to everyone who took part, we had great fun and raised over £120!!!

Last week class2 had a fun filled morning being mentored by years 5 and 6 during a P.E lesson.This was overseen by a p.e teacher from Haybridge.They really enjoyed this and the older chidren were fantastic.We also contiued to look at journeys and designed our own transport then made them using card board boxes and lots of masking tape.

This week we have continued our journey theme.

Barnaby Bear went to Paris and saw lots of interesting things.We pretended we were Barnaby Bear and drew a picture postcard as if we were Barnaby.

Dillon brought in his picture of the Mona Lisa.Barnaby had a baguette whilst he was in Paris.

We all had a piece of baguette which Mrs Bevan brought in to school, which Mrs Clements baked. It tasted delicious !

Road Safety

This week our Community Support Officer Kate came to talk to Class 1 about road safety-linked to our Journeys theme. Kate introduced us to Harry the Hedgehog and he taught us to STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN. We also got to have a look at the Police car and Kate put on the blue lights and the siren. Some of the children spoken to Jenny at the Police station.

Kate gave us some things about road safety to share with our families at home.

This week in class 2 we have made a right angle 'finder' and had some fun looking for right angles around the school. We also learnt lots of interesting facts about Eels . Did you know a baby Eel is called an elver ? We water washed some paper with greens and blues to represent the sea. We drew eels to go on our paintings.
Class 1 and 2 have talked about the goals they want to achieve these can be seen on our foot-ball display.

EXTREME SPORTS!

Twelve children from Key Stage 2 took part in an Extreme Sports Festival today at Forest Glades Leisure Centre in Kidderminster.

The children could bring either a skateboard, roller blades/skates or a scooter.

As you can see from the photographs, we all had a great time and only came away with a few bruised knees, elbows and bottoms!

Today was probally the best first day of term ever because of that wonderful cold white stuff! This is some of us at the millenium green, learning about .... playing in the snow, the best size for a snowball and the most painfull place to shoot at. We hope we'll get to learn about more snow tomorrow. Did you enjoy the snow and what did you do ? MR Class4

I didn't think that this time would ever come. The last few weeks have gone by really fast. I still can't believe that my time at Blakedown has come to an end. This week has been very special.

Good luck Class Four - I have left you a plant and bought you one as well - make sure you look after it. You really are a special class, make sure your parents know how fantastic you are. You are what makes Blakedown special - I look forward to hearing your news in the future. Make sure you look after Miss Harrison and Miss Bond. I will miss you nagging me.

Just because I'm not at Blakedown, it doesn't mean you can stop doing your best. Make sure you keep having that Go4it attitude.

Anyway - Thanks for everything - Blakedown will always have a place in my heart (a bit cheesy I know). Make sure I get invited to the 150 year anniversary!

Have a good Christmas - I'll be approving the comments until Christmas Eve and then it's over to Miss Bond.

Part of your homework this week is to watch a few videos!! Yes, I did say videos. Paul Jennings is the author we have been looking at in class, he also adapted some of his stories for the TV in a series that I watched when I was younger called - Round the Twist.

I'd like you to watch this episode "little black balls" and analyse the story structure. Make a note of: the intro (hook), build up, more build up, an event, a conclusion and then the twist.

On the way to the graveyard, feeling very depressed,
mourning my comrades who I fought alongside,
wondeering wether my death was near.
Even though the war's over,
I'm feeling very distressed.
I close my eyes and I am back in the battle.
A bullet rushes past my ear.

The date is 11th November and the time is 10:55am.
I walk to my position in the cenotaph,
wearing my poppy with great remembrance.
My medals glistening in the sunlight,
Like a big Gem.

Im so alone.
Whats the point of surviving ?
Everyone dies here,
There's only two of us left in our patrol.

Im so desperate for real air.
My lungs suffocating from the smoke.
The smell of decaying bodies.

Im stepping over carcasses of dead bodies.
Thinking that could be me.
Suddenley I hear the Bang of a gun & next i see my last conrade on the floor.

Im running to him as fast as my legs could carry.
But it was to late.
He could not stop bleeding.

Im still running away from the ambush.
But before I could turn around BANG!
I lumbred to the ground in pain,yelling clenching my leg.

Im still alive to this day.
But it still haunts me.
Its been 50 years but I will Renember.
