E-mail

Blaq is a web-based job management system created by Zignet, a software development company based in Sydney, Australia.

Zignet first launched Blaq as a PC application in 2002. At that time it was used solely by printers. Our clients included companies with branches spread throughout Australia which needed to have their data continually synchronised with their head office - a cumbersome and expensive task at the time. Some of them used Apple Macs and wanted to be able to use them to run Blaq. They also wanted a simple way to access Blaq from out of the office after hours and on weekends.

After looking at the different ways of fulfilling the above requests, Zignet decided the best solution for our clients - and no doubt future clients - would be to recreate Blaq as a web application. In the second half of 2004, after deciding between the different options for web languages and platforms available for the new Blaq, the redesign began.

In 2005 Zignet launched Blaq as a web application and it's users immediately saw the many advantages the new interface provided. Since then, many new companies have signed up to become Blaq users. Our current clients include printers and graphic designers spread throughout Australia.

Please note, Blaq is hosted in a world-class data-centre which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure Blaq is available whenever our clients need it.

The new menu improves the average Blaq page load time and also corrects some problems the current menu has when used on Macs. It has a similar appearance to the existing menu and the menu items are the same.

The new menu is a Java menu, therefore all users need to have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed to be able to use it.

August 2006 Update

Over the past couple of months much work has been done on Blaq to include enhancements which have been requested by Blaq users. These requests include:

Most sections of Blaq have been given a fresher, cleaner look - but the functionality mostly remains the same. The only change to the functionality is the inclusion of a 'side-bar' in some sections. This new side-bar aids with navigation and also provides details about the currently open transactions, customers, etc.

View drop-down - near the top of many list windows, a View drop-down gives the user the ability to quickly see various views. For example, whilst looking at the list of Jobs, a user can select "Open" to view only the Open jobs.

Jobs - a new Status has been added - "Completed". This status is for when a job has been finished, but may not be ready to be invoiced. If selected, the job won't show up in the Planner & My Week Ahead sections.

Within jobs, the delivery section has been combined with the costs section. The Costs section will now show:

Time Sheets - any time sheet entries allocated to this job.

Purchases - the components of any purchase order allocated to this job.

Cost Components - components can be added here (by clicking on "Add Cost Component" on the toolbar at the bottom of the window) which are used to track the costs incurred for the job. These components don't affect the components in the Production Details of the job. These components can also be deleted if necessary.

Deliveries - any deliveries allocated to this job.

All costs can be added to the Production Details of the job by either selecting a specific component and clicking on "Add Cost to Job" or clicking on "Add All Costs to Job" for all costs.

Transaction Components - when entering a component, if the product code is known, it can now be entered directly into the code field of the component, instead of having to use the lookup window. The lookup window is still available if the code is not known.

Activities - this new section has been added to the CRM. It allows you to view a list of all your activities. Within contacts, you can now also view all the activities for a contact.

Charts - the charts in the different Administration & Customer/Supplier sections have all been combined into one Charts section, found in the Tools section. This section now allows charts to be created with different combinations of parameters. For example, the sales history of a particular category and/or product for a specific Customer can be selected. Different date ranges are now available also.

Messages - Blaq users can now send each other messages within Blaq. To create a message, click on the "New Message" button at the bottom of the Blaq window. Select a Blaq user from the list (and a CC if desired), give the message a subject and enter your message. When finished, click on "Ok" at the bottom of the window. The recipient will be alerted to the new message at the bottom of their Blaq window. It will show up in the list of reminders & messages. They can then select the message and click on "View" to see the message. Alternatively, the message is available through the Inbox of the user's Blaq E-mail section.

Contacts - added fields for the contact's business & home address.

Spell Checker - most windows can now use an in-built spell checker. Simply click on the spell check button on the Blaq toolbar, or the Spell Check button available in most pop-up windows.

June 2007 Update

Much work has been done since the last update. The main changes include:

Timesheets - by adding timesheet sub-employees to a user, users can now be setup to be able to either view or view and modify timesheets for other users.

Job Schedule - buttons have been added to expand sub items. Each press of the "Expand All" button will open another level of detail of the listed jobs. The "Collapse All" button will minimize all job details to the minimum level.

New System submenu - under the Administration menu, three new sections exist under the "System" submenu. They are: "System Info" - gives a summary of transaction counts in Blaq and Employee Access; "System Backup" - shows a log of recent backups (please note this log will show as empty initially but the backups have still been run); "System Options" - the same as the previous "Options" section available from the "Administration" menu.

Cost pricing - for non-chargeable accounts (re-do and samples) the pricing can be set to product's cost pricing (if it has been entered) by setting the "Non-chargeable Accounts use Cost Pricing" to "Yes" in the Administration > System > System Options > Transaction Settings section.

Production Details - a new function has been added to this section and because of this (and more to come) a few of the buttons have been moved to a sub-menu accessible from the "Actions" button at the far right of the buttons below the Production Details. The "Load from Job/Quote/etc." and Re-number functions have been moved here, and a new "Re-price" function has been added. The "Re-price" function will go through all the components in the current transaction and re-price them using the system pricing. If no pricing for a product exists then the price won't be changed.

Goods Receiving - the previous "Goods Outstanding" and "Goods Received" section have been merged into this one section. Depending on a user's access rights to this section, the options can be limited accordingly. The different options are: Add - outstanding products can be received; Modify - the date received and invoice # can be altered for received products and if the order hasn't been closed the quantity received can also be altered; Add & Modify - a combination of the Add and Modify options previously mentioned.

Products - new fields have been added to the products section for a future upgrade. They are: "Website" (under Buying & Selling) and "Preferred Supplier". While their information can be entered now, neither are functional yet. "Website" will enable a user to quickly lookup a product on a supplier's website or it will enable you to embed links in Invoice/Quote templates for your customer to be able to lookup a product from a pdf. Preferred Supplier will make purchasing products easier by listing separately specified products when ordering in a Purchase Order.

New tab within Jobs, 'Quote Details' shows all the production details of the quote the job was converted from (if it was converted from a quote). Any of the Components or entire Items of the original quote can then be copied to the job.

The design of all grids within the Comments, Quote Details, Production Details and Costs sections have been updated to better integrate with the design of the rest of Blaq.

Most pop-up windows within the Comments, Quote Details, Production Details and Costs sections are now created within the same window, making it faster.

All alterations within the Comments, Quote Details, Production Details and Costs sections of a transaction now are performed without having to refresh the entire page - instead, only the grid is generally reset. For example, if moving a component down within Production Details, only the grid is refreshed making it a lot quicker.

All Items within the Comments, Quote Details, Production Details and Costs sections can now be 'Minimised' and 'Maximised'. A small "-" or "+" besides the Item Title on the grid allows that Item's Components to be hidden or if clicked again, to be shown. A "+" and "-" button at the bottom right of each grid minimises or maximises all Items in the grid.

The Costs section now has subtotals for each of it's subsections.

New 'System Maintenance' section - under Administration > System > Maintenance:

allows the status of any transaction to be changed to another status - eg. an closed job set to Open or an invoice to be reset to Closed for exporting again.

allows exported batches of transactions to be reset so they can be exported again

There have also been a few visual improvements:

The edit screens have been give a more modern look

The lists (jobs, quotes, etc.) have been changed so now if the lists are scrolled the list headers do not move, making them visible at all times.

August 2008 Update

Since the last upgrade, there have been a lot of improvements to Blaq with several new features.

General Changes:

New look - new menu, updated sidebar (with new functionality).

Much more "Web 2.0" design, allows Blaq (and you) to work a lot quicker.

No longer a need to have Java installed on Blaq workstations as it's no longer used.

Layout Changes:

New "Skins" allow users to give Blaq a more personalised look - these can be set in the Preferences section.

Menus reorganised into a more practical order. New submenus for "Sales" and "Purchasing". Accounts section now found under "Administration".

Toolbars now only show relevant buttons - navigation buttons moved to bottom right of screen.

New features:

Stock control - each 'product' can be set as being stocked or not. The products which are stocked are then listed in the new "Stock Control" section (under Purchasing) and their current stock level, allocation and quantity on order are available there. Also, stock adjustments can be made in this section.

Widgets - the updated sidebar can now hold numerous new 'widgets'. Available widgets are listed in a user's preferences section, where they can select which they would like to use. Selected widgets will then appear on the sidebar when the user next logs in. Widgets can be reordered, resized and minimised.

Employee budgets - each employee can have a sales budget. This is set in the "Budget" tab of the "Employees" section. One of the new widgets then allows the employee to see their sales for a month in comparison to their budget.

My Week Ahead - this is now found under the CRM > Planner section. As well as the usual summary of the user's activities for the forthcoming week, it has been updated to show recent Blaq activity relevant to the user, such as when their jobs are updated.

Scheduling - departments can be setup (in the Branch section) and then a job (or any of it's sections) can be moved between departments, from either within the job or from the Sales > Schedule section. This allows users to quickly see where a job is. Departments can be setup for any "location" a job might be at, for example, Sales, Production, Accounts and Outsource.

Opportunities - this is a new type of transaction which a sales rep can use prior to learning all the details for a quote or job. It is a brief summary of a potential job and is used to keep track of potential work which might be coming in.

Production Details - for any type of transaction, the components can now be more quickly re-ordered by drag and drop.

Planner - each of the planner views has been enhanced and now allow activities to be added faster by simply double-clicking on the date/time where the activity is to be created.

May 2009 Update

The May 2009 update was a major upgrade.
May 2009 will see the next major upgrade to Blaq.

There have been major rewrites of the coding behind Blaq to make it both faster and use less memory, thus improving performance particularly on older computers. However, as always we recommend (and only support) the latest browsers. As of May 2009 we'll be supporting Firefox 3+, Internet Explorer 7+ and Safari 3+. We are also looking at supporting Google's Chrome browser and will be progressively increasing our testing on this browser. So far our testing of it has been very positive. If you use Chrome and come across any problems using it with Blaq please let us know.

Appearance

Upon using the updated Blaq, users will immediately notice it has
been given a fresher look. Some buttons have been moved to more
logical positions, however most menus and buttons can still be found
in the same positions in order to minimise the disruption in adapting
to the new version. The drop-down "View" menu has been
removed from the main view section and is now found on the sidebar on
the left. Likewise, switching between planner views (day, month, week
& year) is also done from the sidebar.

More styles have also been added in the Preferences section.

Dashboard & Widgets

On the main menu at the top of the window is a new "Dashboard"
link - this will take users directly to their Dashboard, an improved
version of the previous "Week Ahead" planner view. Both the
existing sidebar and the Dashboard can be customised by users in
their Preferences section and the number of columns in the Dashboard
can also be set there. There is an increased range of "widgets"
available which can be added to either the sidebar or Dashboard
section. Both sidebar and Dashboard allow widgets to be dragged
around and resized.

Products

Each product can currently have a minimum sell price set - the
minimum nett price for that product. Now, each product can also have
a minimum charge set per unit. Once set, neither of these can be
overridden within a transaction.

Job "Log"

A new "Log" tab has been added in the Jobs section. The
Log shows a history of a job including details such as when and by
whom it was created, modified and printed.

Templates

The Templates section has been moved to the Sales menu. Templates
can be used as a base for creating a job or quote - if you are
frequently doing the same type of quote or job you can create it as a
template then use the template and copy it to the jobs or quotes
section when needed, and then modify it once copied. You can also
copy and existing job or quote to the templates section instead of
creating one from new.

Imports

The Import section has been revised to greatly simplify the import
of customers, suppliers, contacts or products. As well as importing
most MYOB files, text files generated from other programs can be
imported. The process is now simplified and the fields required in
the text files a lot more logical.

Planner

You can now use 'drag-n-drop' with planner items (other than
recurring items) to easily and quickly reschedule them to another
time or date in the planner views.

March 2010 Update

Tonight we performed a minor update of Blaq with the following new features and improvements:

The "Recent Activity" widget has been improved further. As well as writing about what you're working on, you can now add comments to what other users are working on. This is still visible to everyone using this widget, we plan to add filters for this in the near future.

Dashboard columns can now be given different sizes. The Widgets tab of the Preferences section now allows more choices in the way columns are configured for each user.

Charts have been given a minor refresh. Some of the tables displayed with the charts have been reorganised and are now considerably easier to read.

More widgets have been added including 'Purchase Orders in Progress' and 'Opportunities in Progress'.

Addresses have been changed in all sections. In order to allow for international addresses (addresses outside Australia) the Post Code is no longer a required field and the State / Region / Province field has been extended to allow for more characters. The Country field has been changed to a drop down field with countries listed. The country you're based in will always be used as the default country.

Currencies can now be used within Blaq. Each customer can have a default currency, and each transaction can be set to a particular currency. Currently, currencies are only being used for recording a transaction's currency, but in the future we plan to look at incorporating exchange rates to convert between a local and foreign currencies.

New Poll

We're adding a poll to our blog to get some user feedback about what you would like to see added next to Blaq.

We're currently looking at:

A mobile version - this would be a more basic edition of Blaq for use on mobile phones. We'd be focusing on speed and ease of use, so it would be more limited than the standard web version but great for use with mobile phones.

A login for your customers - we're looking at allowing you to give your customers the ability to login to a Blaq site where they can check on their jobs and invoices with you, and create their own quotes. You would be able to limit which customers had this access and the features they could access.

A payroll module - we added a few payroll details to the employees section a while back, but we're looking at creating a full payroll module.

Integration with Google Apps - Google Apps is becoming more and more popular, so we're looking at making Blaq able to connect with your Google Apps so you could synchronise contacts and calendars and send emails from your own email account.

Sync - instead or as well as above, we're looking at third party services for syncing your contacts and calendar events with Outlook, Gmail, mobile phones, etc. If you've got something you'd like to sync with, please let us know.

Mail merge - a mail merge function would allow you to send email newsletters, notices, etc. to your contact list from within Blaq.

Attaching files to emails - currently, you can email quotes, invoices, etc. generated from within Blaq directly to your clients, but you can't attach other files to the same email. This would allow you to attach other files from your PC or possibly from a file storage service such as Box.net.

If there's a feature you'd really like added but we haven't covered, please let us know also.

Firefox 3/4 & PDF's

Firefox has always been one of our favourite browsers for Blaq and with the release of version 4 this week it keeps getting better. We've been testing this update with Blaq and so far haven't come across any problems with Blaq's functionality. However, printing could be an issue for now.

When printing anything in Blaq, a PDF is generated and depending on your browser setup, the PDF is downloaded or is previewed in another browser tab or window.

Firefox 4 Mac PDF Solution

For any Firefox users on Macs wanting to upgrade to version 4, we've come across a solution for the PDF issue. Whilst it's not a permanent solution, from our testing it works well and should do for most users. Unfortunately, you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode for it to work.

Firstly, install this version of the PDF Plugin for Mac OS X: http://firefox-mac-pdf.s3.amazonaws.com/fx-quartz-pdf-1.2.0.xpi.

After the plugin is installed, close Firefox, then select the Firefox icon in Finder. Open its properties using File > Get Info (or Cmd + I) and check the 'Open in 32-bit mode' checkbox and close the window. Open up Firefox and the PDF preview should now work.

UPDATE - 11/5/2011

We've had feedback that the 32-bit mode should be set first before attempting to install the plugin, otherwise Firefox won't let you install the plugin.

April 2011 Update

Over the weekend, we performed a minor Blaq update. The main change was adding a new product type. Blaq caters for many different types of products, not only allowing for different ways to measure a product but also to calculate a product's pricing. Examples of product types are:

Standard - measured in units using a single quantity, eg. 3 cameras

Length - measured by it's length (eg. metres) and also it's quantity, eg. 4 lengths of rope 5 metres long

Hours - a time measurement of work done in hours, also with a quantity, eg. 2 lots of 5 hours

Area - measured using a quantity, the number different kinds, a width and height, eg. 20 lots of 3 different banners, 5 metres width by 2 metres high

In the product section, you'll find a new type of 'Area 4', taking the number of 'Area' product types to 4. All four products include a quantity, number of 'kinds', width and height.

The difference between the types is the way the total quantity for the volume break used when pricing is calculated:

Area 1 - total quantity = quantity x kinds x width x height

Area 2 - total quantity = kinds x width x height

Area 3 - total quantity = width x height

Area 4 - total quantity = quantity x width x height

Therefore, if a component was entered with the following measurements:

Quantity: 10

Kinds: 2

Height: 0.2 m

Width: 1.2 m

and the product's volume breaks and pricing were set as:

Quantity: 0 sqm, Price: $ 100.00 per square metre

Quantity: 0.4 sqm, Price: $ 80.00 per square metre

Quantity: 0.8 sqm, Price: $ 60.00 per square metre

Quantity: 2.0 sqm, Price: $ 40.00 per square metre

Quantity: 4.0 sqm, Price: $ 20.00 per square metre

the volume break and pricing per square metre for each type of Area product would be:

Area 1 - Quantity = 4.8 sqm, Price = $ 20.00 per square metre

Area 2 - Quantity = 0.48 sqm, Price = $ 80.00 per square metre

Area 3 - Quantity = 0.24 sqm, Price = $ 100.00 per square metre

Area 4 - Quantity = 2.4 sqm, Price = $ 40.00 per square metre

As you can see, the results vary greatly, so please be aware of these product types and choose the one that suits the way you calculate the pricing for your products.

HTML5 Browsers

As web technology progresses, browsers are constantly being updated to include the latest technologies. One of the main current browser technologies is HTML5 - the latest version of the Hyper Text Markup Language most web pages are created in. The modern browsers support HTML5, though to varying degrees. HTML5 includes a whole range of improvements over HTML4, and the newer browsers support some of these new features but no browser supports them all. A good place to see the features your browser support is http://www.html5test.com/ where your browser receives a score - the higher the score, the more HTML5 features your browser supports.

Why are we mentioning this? Blaq is constantly being updated to include new features, some of which are only available in HTML5. Some might not be very important (e.g. rounded corners on a box) but others may be very useful to you. Therefore, we always recommend our users keep their browser up to date with it's latest version, and if possible to use a browser which itself keeps up to date with the latest technology. Because of this, we generally recommend Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox as our preferred browsers.

Firefox 5 and Mac PDF

Mozilla has released another update to their popular Firefox web browser after only recently updating it to version 4. This time it's version 5 and from our testing here, we've found it continues to be a great browser and a worthwhile update. We've tested it with Blaq and found no problems so far besides the same problem we had with version 4 - previewing PDF's in the browser on Macs. Unfortunately, Firefox still doesn't do this without an add-on, and even the add-on solution isn't that simple.

We've read reports that Mozilla is developing a PDF viewer for Firefox, but we don't know if and when this will be available. Instead of waiting, we've done some research and found 2 solutions.

The first is the easiest - an add-on from Schuber|it. Their PDF Browser Plugin works well but would require the purchase of a site license if it was to be used with Blaq. It's free for not-for-profit activities if used at home or educational institutions, but we don't believe this would cover Blaq so our users would need to buy the license. It involves using the Firefox PDF Plug-in for Mac that we recommended with Firefox 4 but this time modifying it, and also running Firefox in 32 bit mode.
integration with a simple time tracking system called Toggl - www.toggl.com. This allows for Blaq users to track time on a job from your mobile device. The time entries will then flow into the costing side of the job.

Initial balance for a GL Account can be entered

Bank details has been moved to the GL accounts section

You will see a new menu called Banking, this is where the new accounting features will be found. There will also be a new menu under Administration called Banking where we have moved the following functions:

GL Accounts

Tax Rates

Payment Terms

Payment Methods

What’s coming up:

Payroll

Bank Reconciliation

Australia Day Update

You may have noticed some changes to Blaq?? Over the long weekend, we here at Zignet were busy implementing some new and exciting features in Blaq in order make your life easier...
These upgrades do not affect the operation of any existing users of Blaq.
The new features include:

We’re working towards a more iPad friendly layout for Blaq, with a view to making a smart phone layout available in about a year. As such, the look of Blaq has changed a little. The new layout that you will see is the “Compact” view. It allows you to see more information on the screen and is particularly useful for those using Blaq on their iPad. To revert back to the old layout, go to the menu Tools/Preferences. In the Start-Up section, select the Layout option of “Comfortable”. This will put the space and lines back in between the fields on the screen.

Another option that we have created, also in the menu Tools/Preferences Start-Up section, is the Tip Display. You can now opt to see the tips to the right of each field on the screen (as it currently is), underneath each field on the screen, or switch tips off. For those of you that are familiar with Blaq and no longer need tips, or those that are using smaller screens, such as an iPad, you may choose to remove the tips or show them underneath so your data entry fields are bigger. Note; once your screen is less than a particular width, such as when you have the portrait view on your iPad, the tips will automatically be removed.

On all forms that include Sections, you now have the ability to collapse or expand each section, depending on it’s relevance to your current task. Use the arrow that is on the right of the section name.

Navigation around Blaq has become much faster and more user friendly with the inclusion of an arrow icon to the right of relevant fields. For example if you are in a Job and want to see your customers details, you can click on the icon and be taken to the Customer Account screen for that customer.

The Accounts Menu has been moved. It is now under the Sales menu item and is a sub menu named Customers

The Banking Menu has been renamed as Accounting as it will soon encompasses even more accounting features.

Journal Entries and Bank Transactions are entered on one screen with components at the bottom, rather than in separate tabs.

A new tab has been added to your Job management screen. (menu Sales > Jobs and Invoices). This tab will show, as display only, the Supplier Quotes that were included in the original Quote. From here you can create Purchases Orders for these Supplier Quotes.

The status of “Posted” for all Invoices that have been exported to MYOB is no longer used. The status for these Invoices will remain as “Invoiced” until the invoice is fully paid, which changes the status to “Paid”. A new icon (which looks like a linked chain) has been added to the Jobs and Invoices List which indicates that an item has been posted (aka exported) to be imported into your external accounting system.

If there are any questions regarding how you can utilise these improvements, don’t hesitate to email or call us.

We hope you all had a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to working together with you this year...

It's not. Blaq is still safe. Blaq does use the Open SSL library - but not the version that contains the Heartbleed vulnerability.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Blaq development team.

Why businesses are loving SaaS!

These days, renting is becoming more and more common. We rent our houses, our pay tv service and even some appliances. We’ve become accustomed to paying a monthly fee to use a product or service at home, so why not in business too?

Software as a Service (SaaS) is when we rent software via the internet, or ‘Cloud’, rather than purchase it outright. It’s becoming more and more popular in business, and small businesses are starting to see it’s advantages.

But what do small businesses love about SaaS?

But what do small businesses love about SaaS?

SaaS is quick to get up and running

With SaaS, you sign up for a service and in many instances can start using it straight away. All you normally need is an internet connection and web browser - there is no need to install software on one or more computers, and no need to setup servers!

SaaS is always the latest version

With regular software, you normally need to purchase upgrades to ensure you have the latest version, and to keep up with any newly added features. If there are any issues with the software you’ll need to install updates to fix bugs also - or way for your IT department to do it for you!

With SaaS, you don’t need to do any of that. The software is always the latest version with all the current features - there’s nothing you need to do!

SaaS reduces costs

With SaaS there is no large capital expenditure to purchase software, you just pay a lower monthly subscription fee. Instead of finding out there’s a new version you need to upgrade to with regular software, the monthly fee makes it easy to predict costs.

For many small businesses which outsource their I.T. support, it often would have cost them to have traditional software installed, configured and updated regularly - but with SaaS they’ll save money as none of that will be needed!

Also, SaaS subscriptions are often based on the number of users, so it’s easy to scale as your business grows. You’re not paying extra now for when your business grows in the future!

SaaS is more secure

Data security is always a concern for any business. With traditional software residing on a server, you’ll need to ensure the server has all the latest security updates and anti-virus software. You’ll also have to make sure you have reliable backup systems in place, since the loss of your data would normally be catastrophic for most small businesses.

With SaaS, all of this is taken care of, with the SaaS company looking after everything for you. Your data is extremely important to them and they will have tried and tested security and backup methods in place to ensure your data is safe and always available to you.

So we’ve looked at the main reasons businesses are adopting and loving SaaS, and these are the reasons that you should too!

What are some of the other advantages to SaaS? Let us know in the comments section below.

Time sheet entries made easy!

Time sheets are an important part of Blaq - they're great for keeping track of how much time you and your staff are spending working on each job, so you can see how much jobs are costing you and act before they start costing more than what you've quoted your customer.

Did you know that in a recent Blaq update, we made it even easier to record the time you're spending on your jobs?

Previously, there was the time sheet section (under Planner) and also a widget, but they needed to be visible for you to enter your work. Now, at the top of the Blaq window, there is a clock icon - if you click it you'll see a drop-down window for a time sheet entry.

In the entry window, you can select the job you're working on, the activity you're doing and add any comments about the work in the notes section.

When you click on the Start button at the bottom of the entry window, the timer starts and you'll see a timer running beside the clock icon at the top. This shows you how much time you've spent on the current activity and is also a useful reminder that the timer is running.

It will keep updating with the time spent on the current work until you stop it. You can close the browser or log out of Blaq and when you next log in, it will update and continue to display the total time spent on the current entry.

When you've finished the time sheet activity, you can click on the clock to show the time sheet entry and then click on the Stop button at the bottom.

Once you've stopped the timer, the new time sheet entry is updated and closed. The details from that entry will stay in the drop-down window however, so you can either start a new entry for the same job and activity, or if you'd rather you can overwrite the job, activity and notes with new details and then click Start to create a new entry.

Once you start using time sheets in Blaq, you'll be able to see in your jobs more details about the costs involved with producing the job. The Planner shows what you and others have been working on, and reports can give you a total overview of what the hours your staff are spending on tasks.

Do you find this new time sheet feature useful?
