Already planning 16th birthday

Yo teens are brutal. I asked my son what he wants to do for his 16th birthday. He tells me, he already made plans with his friends. 😑

And so after hanging out, a group of teen boys are in my kitchen making noise and celebrating my son.

I dont mind that my son didn't inlude me this year, since I did get cake.

Our mini hike

Spending time with the teen during a mini hike. Which included me being attacked by bugs and my teen son not helping.

But that's ok (sorta) cause it's all about making those core memories before he leaves the nest (sorta).

Mom and son bonding at solar eclipse

This year solar eclipse on April 8 was an extra special phenomenon, mostly because I was able to experience it with my teen son. I figured if the world was going to end, at least we'd see it together.

I told him as much, which he just rolled his eyes at. Because....teen son

But he agreed to join me for a trip to the American Museum of Natural History to see it from their fancy terrace area. Plus see the new New Gilder Center section, since he hasn't yet.

We decided to make it another mom and son day at the museum. Gosh we use to have so many of those before he became a "teen".

The AMNH hosted a Solar Eclipse Day, which included getting a pair eclipse glasses, along with family-friendly educational activities.

While we missed the activities, we did get our eclipse glasses and joined other families on the Arthur Ross Terrace.

Being on Arthur Ross Terrace gave us a clear amazing view as we watched the moon eclipse the sun. Even at 90 percent coverage, it was truly one of those rare life experiences.

Made more rare when I heard my teen said this was "cool" and later that he enjoyed sharing that moment with me. A truly phenomenal day.

Hopefully my son can see the next total solar eclipse in 2044, when he's 35 y/o with his teen child!

New Year start with dancing dragons

Guess who's son got a mouth and tooth injury in school....

Which means I had to cancel my plans, pick him up and take him to dentist office for urgent care.

3 hours at hospital later, my son is fine but he gotta wear mini braces for 1 month 😫

He even received a few awards before graduation.

A night with Jurassic World Dominion

History, dino bones & lunch

Learning about the American Flag while touring Betsy Ross House.

You can tour the house from courtyard, inside rooms and even basement. Lots to learn.

Then we visited the Wagner Institute to look at all the things. So many things. Even dino bones! The teen loved it.

Ended with treating the teen to lunch at McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant. So delicious. The teen was full. For about 5 mins. 😆

Todays activity? Touring Cathedral of St. John the Divine Crypts. 😳

We learned Cathedral art history, saw rooms with original stonework and artifacts and YES they have bodies buried in the crypts. Amazing tour!
