You know, there was part of me which hoped that Predators would turn out pretty bad ass, but given the poor history of the franchise in recent memory, I thought that it was kind of a crap shoot.

Today, however, the official website launched, and crowds at SXSW got the first look at a sneak-peak at the film, which I’ve embedded above.

Thus far, it feels like a gritty, 80’s style actioner, which is the exact feel you’d want.

The full trailer will be hitting the web on March 18th, with the movie hitting theaters on July 7th, and I can say – I am very hyped!

He has a very dark, subversive style of humor, and honestly, I love every minute of it. It’s fearless, brilliant stuff.

Now, thanks to the magic of internet, someone has animated a bit from the album (“Bunnies”), and you too can join the cult of Kinane fans.

If you dig it, his album can be purchased from ASTRecords.com, or off of iTunes! Be warned, the language is sorta kinda very NSFW.

As the search continues to find who will play the first Avenger, Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America, Marvel Studios is still making moves to cast their movie. And the latest is a goddamn’d master stroke.

Wearing the red skull of the Red Skull will be non other than go-to awesome villain actor Hugo Weaving.

I can’t say a single bad thing about this casting. It rules SUPER hard, and I can’t wait to see Weaving chew up scenery in this film. He’s built quite the nerd friendly resume with The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta and this past February’s remake of The Wolfman, and now Weaving will make his mark in the world of Marvel.

It should rule. Hard.

After having his name in the rumor mills these past few weeks in regards to both a new Superman film and the highly anticipated third Batman film, Christopher Nolan was uncharacteristically talkative this week, opening up to the Los Angeles Times on the status of both projects.

While the full article is completely worth the time, I thought I’d give you a few of the highlights.

-How did Nolan end up heading up a new Superman project? It was all David Goyer’s fault: “He basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman,’” Nolan recalled. “I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”

-Nolan will not be directing this new Superman film.

-Superman and Batman will be in separate film universes, which throws out my theory that these films (along with Green Lantern and Flash) would make up a DC Film Universe to counter Marvel Studios.

-The status of Batman 3? Jonathan Nolan is writing the script, and it wraps up the series: “Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story,” he said. “And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.”

-Whoever the villain in the third film is, it won’t be Mr. Freeze.

Click through below to read the full article, it’s a heck of a read.

And if you ask Stan, his is an art which has been ignored for far too long. So watch, if you will, as Mr. Lee makes his play for the first ever Oscar for cameo appearances.

I for one, completely support this measure. I mean, really, how many movies has Stan truly made great? The answer – countless.

The pass for this screening of Green Zone was provided by B. In addition, this “mini-review” will be appearing in their newspaper. Thanks, guys!

Despite what the director, lead actor and (especially) the trailers may make you believe, Green Zone is anything but the 4th Bourne film. In fact, if it’s part of any series, it’s part of the seemingly never ending line of political thrillers revolving around the ongoing conflict in Iraq. Soldiers are just pawns in a game put together by the fat cats in Washington, the public doesn’t know the truth, and honestly, you’ve seen this story told a thousand times before.

You’d think that with a great cast including Matt Damon, Brendan Gleeson, and Amy Ryan, you could at least count on Oscar quality performances, but no, Green Zone’s cast seems to sleepwalk through performances as basic and predictable as the script. The only bright point seems to be Greg Kinnear, who chews scenery as Clark Poundstone, a member of Pentagon Special Intellegence. His character is a cut throat political player, and Kinnear seems to revel in every minute he’s on screen.

But the real issues of the film come down to an awkward, action-heavy third act, which seems tacked on to please audiences who need a resolution to a real-life conflict that has yet to have one, and the heavy handed direction of Paul Greengrass. Look, I loved the shaky feel of the Bourne films too, but not every single scene needs to rock back and forth like they’re at sea.

It all comes down to this – if you’re looking for a great film set against the backdrop of the Iraq conflict this weekend – don’t go see Green Zone. Redbox a copy of The Hurt Locker instead. At least Kathryn Bigelow knows how to set a camera steady.
