Great viral videos, really impressive and effective trailers, and I’d even say that the first poster for the film ranks as one of the more iconic posters for this generation of film.

So, when I saw the brand new poster…I have to say I was shocked it was as bad as it was.

Yeah. Kinda looks like the cover for a really cheesy sci-fi novel, right? And what’s with Charlize Theron’s head?

The one bit that stands out though – says June 6th, on there, not the previously mentioned June 8th date – are we going to see the release pushed up? Stay tuned!

Like I need more artists to follow. But never the less, while browsing across the web, I stumbled upon this radtastic print, which I just needed to share with you guys.

Artist Jeff Lamm has created the above print, titled “London Face Punch”.  Originally, it served as a cover for Clutter Magazine, but he has partnered up with 1xRUN, a limited run poster site, to create a limited edition print of the work.

With adorably awesome kaiju monsters wrecking a city and each other, the print is really brilliant looking.  The bummer? There will only be 50 copies of this 18″x24″ print.  And as of me writing this, only 26 are left.

After a very successful surprise return on April 1st, the team at [adult swim] had an announcement which just made the internet VERY happy.

Toonami is coming back.

Toonami, for those who didn’t watch Cartoon Network obsessively at the end of the 90s into the early 2000s, was a block of animated shows mixing 1980′s classics like Thundercats and Voltron with newly imported Japanese animation like Gundam Wing and Cowboy Bebop.

The plan is for Toonami to become a weekly block every Saturday night from 12am-6am, starting on May 26th, 2012.

Unfortunately, as I currently do not have a cable subscription, I will not be able to partake in Toonami’s return, but I’m very excited for it to happen never the less. The shows on Toonami practically defined my teenage years, and I can’t wait for the block to warp a new generation.

That was quick! I just featured posters from Spoke Art earlier this week for a screening of Wes Anderson classics at the Castro Theatre, and now, just a few days later, here I am with more amazing posters for another movie screening! Who do they think they are, Mondo?

Anyway, this Friday night, May 18th, 2012, the Castro will be having a special screening of Robocop, and they have employed Tim Doyle to produce a commemorative print.

Titled “Murphy, It’s You”, this 18″x24″ print is limited to a run of 225 pieces, with a variant of 60 pieces also available.

The regular edition will run you $40, with the variant going for $60, and provided they don’t all go at the screening, the remainder will be available at Spoke Art’s online store here, on Monday, May 21st at 6pm Eastern, 3pm Pacific.

It’s really cool to see more theaters getting into the exclusive poster game. Not only do we get great art for great movies (and I get more to post about), but maybe we can see the scalpers die off a bit as there are more prints to go around.

Continuing the series of viral videos which included a TED talk from 2023, and the first TV ad for the android David, we have another video giving us a glimpse into the world of the not-quite-Alien-prequel Prometheus.

This video gives us a literal close up look at the lead of the film, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) as she speaks her piece as to why the Weyland Corp. should send the exploration into space.  This literally sets the stage for the film, and is a fascinating piece of film.

Prometheus hits theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Well, this certainly is odd.  In a summer where the fast food tie-ins for the big summer blockbusters have been minimal (The Avengers bypassed 7-Eleven entirely, unlike other Marvel films, and Men in Black 3 is doing Dunkin Donuts, kinda weird), the one tie in we do get may surprise you….The Dark Knight Rises and Mountain Dew.

Yes, the dark and brooding third part of the Christopher Nolan Batman saga will be sponsored by the most XTREME soda in the world, and will even be getting a special flavor, Dark Berry (pictured above).

If that wasn’t enough, there will be special cans of the traditional Mountain Dew, which, when chilled, will reveal a green Batman logo (oooooh.)

And yes, there will be in store displays, which I believe give away a key plot point for the film. Namely that Batman will be the most depressed man EVER.

No, not a world ending, everything is exploding type of bad day. Just one of those crummy days like you and I would have. That’s the concept behind Disassembled, a fantastic animated short by Junaid Chundrigar.

This is a really fun two minute diversion, if you have time on the web, and it’s clear that Chundrigar is a big fan of the John K/Ren & Stimpy style. I’d love to see more shorts in this style.

So How Will Disney Affect Marvel?

Sometimes it feels like a movie is designed just for me.

This fall, I greatly enjoyed reading Steve Jobs, Walter Issacson’s biography of the late Apple founder.  I make no qualms about my Apple fandom. As an owner of a MacBook Pro, iPhone 4s, 3rd Gen iPad and yes, a 160GB iPod Classic, I love their stuff.  But to see the good and the bad of the man who created it was certainly eye opening.

I also don’t make any qualms about my love for the work of Aaron Sorkin. Creator of Sports Night, The West Wing, Studio 60 and the soon to air The Newsroom, not to mention screenwriter for numerous films, I’m absolutely addicted to his dialogue and wordplay.

So, when Sony Pictures announced late last night that Sorkin will be penning the screenplay for a movie adaptation of Steve Jobs, you know I was giddy.

Sorkin’s done some very strong work with Sony over the past few years, delivering Academy Award Nominated films such as The Social Network and Moneyball, but more over, both films took what could be dull concepts on film (building a website/business and Sabremetrics, respectively) and turned them into well paced dramas. I think he’ll do the same with Steve Jobs.

Besides, it’s sure to be better than the Ashton Kutcher starring film, right?

–Film to be Based on Walter Isaacson’s Best Selling Biography of Late Apple Co-Founder-

CULVER CITY, Calif., May 15, 2012 – Academy Award® winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will adapt Steve Jobs, a motion picture based on the best-selling biography of the legendary Apple co-founder by award-winning journalist Walter Isaacson, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures. The project is being produced by Mark Gordon, Scott Rudin and Guymon Casady.

Published late last year, Steve Jobs was Amazon’s best-selling book of 2011. In addition, the biography ranked #1 among bestselling hardcover books by a 2:1 margin, with sales of 2,246,569 in 2011, according to Publisher’s Weekly.
Commenting on the announcement, Pascal said, “Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we’re confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing.”

AARON SORKIN won the Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on The Social Network. His other screenplays includeMoneyball, Charlie Wilson’s War, The American President, Malice, and A Few Good Men. He has also acquired the motion picture rights to The Politician, the best-selling book by Andrew Young about the downfall of former Senator John Edwards. He will adapt the book and make his directorial debut with the film, which he will also produce. For television, Sorkin created “The West Wing,” “Sports Night,” and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” He is currently in production on the HBO series “The Newsroom,” which is scheduled to premiere on June 24, 2012. For the stage, Sorkin wrote “A Few Good Men” and “Making Movies”; he returned to Broadway in 2007 with “The Farnsworth Invention.” Sorkin will return to the theater and make his Broadway debut as a librettist with the 2013-2014 production of “Houdini.” Based on the life of legendary magician Harry Houdini, the musical will star Hugh Jackman and will feature music and lyrics by Oscar and Grammy winner Stephen Schwartz.

Starting today, the first teaser trailer for the sequel to Anchorman, arguably the greatest comedy of this generation, will be attached to prints of The Dictator.

In turn, Paramount Pictures has released the first poster for the film, which seems to be officially titled Anchorman: The Legend Continues.  We mentioned the official announcement when Will Ferrell went on Conan in full Ron Burgundy gear, and the hype train is rolling ever on.

Looking at the feet, it seems like all of the Channel 5 news team is there (minus Veronica Corningstone), and goddamnit, I’m giddy with excitement. Bring on Brick, Champ, Brian and Ron! NEWS TEAM ASSEMBLE indeed!

ANCHORMAN 2…Will It Be A Bad Choice?

Last we saw innovative filmmaker Michel Gondry, he was making a misstep into the world of superhero blockbuster filmmaking with The Green Hornet.

After some relative silence, the man behind numerous amazing music videos, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind and The Science of Sleep is ready to return at Cannes this year with his newest film The We And The I.

The first trailer hit the web earlier today, and you can check it out below.

From first appearances, this seems to be Gondry’s most traditional film, the tale of a group of urban youths as they ride the bus, but with all things Gondry, it’s not always what it appears to be.

I didn’t even know that this movie was in production, and with the trailer in front of me, and knowing that there’s a good chance we could see a release this year? The We And The I has jumped up in my list of “must see” films.
