Halibel is the only current female Espada. She has dark skin, green eyes, spiky blonde hair with several braided locks, and wears an oddly-cut variation of the arrancar jacket that bares a good portion of her breasts.Halibel carries her zanpakuto on her back; the sword itself is notably broad and short compared to others and has a western-style guard. The remnants of her hollow mask are partially covered by her collar, but it is clear that she at least has pieces of mask on both sides of her cheeks.

Commonly known as Nel,is a good-natured, child-like arrancar when first introduced. The remains of her hollow mask make up a cartoonish skull on the top of her head. Nel's appearance is in stark contrast to her vocabulary, which contains a number of bizarre phrases and words one wouldn't expect such a small child to know, such as referring to herself as a masochist. Nel and her companions represent oddities among hollows; though most hollows are evil, Nel actually fears Shinigami, assuming they are in fact the evil ones. In spite of this, she develops an attachment to Kurosaki Ichigo and follows him into Las Noches.
Nel's true form is that of a fully-grown woman with longer hair but otherwise similar features. Her skull mask changes slightly, its features appearing less cartoonish. It also grows a pair of curved horns. A large "3" tattooed on her back indicates that she was previously the 3rd Espada. She was expelled from Las Noches by Noitra Jiruga after a sneak attack by him and Szayel Aporro Granz caused her to turn into her child-form and gave her amnesia. Because of her amnesia, she is doubtful when Nnoitra identifies her as a former Espada, but when he begins harming Ichigo, Nel's concern causes her to spontaneously transform into her previous form.

Grimmjow has light blue hair and eyes.Grimmjow's attire consists of a white hakama and a black sash; his white jacket is ragged with an upturned collar. The remains of his hollow mask consist of the right jawbone, and his hollow hole has moved to his abdomen.He also has conflicts with Ulquiorra Schiffer, the 4th Espada, usually because Ulquiorra interrupts his battles or doesn't act on his own impulses. He has also developed a grudge against Kurosaki Ichigo for wounding him during their first and second fights, and is eager to return the favor. He purposefully kept the large scar on his chest from their first battle as a reminder of this.

Zaraki Kenpachi has a wild and aggressive appearance, fitting with his personality. He wears his captain's jacket without sleeves, and with a more ragged look to it.He styles his hair into spikes with bells at the tips and wears a special eye patch on his right eye created by the 12th Division to absorb the bulk of his power. Both of these are meant to give enemies an advantage so that he can have even fights with weaker opponents. His right eye is not blind; he only wears the eyepatch to handicap himself. He has a huge scar on the left side of his face, apparently gained well before his time in Soul Society

While the location of the key is known only to General Yamamoto, Aizen knows how the original was created and how to manufacture another. In order to create the key, Aizen needs to gather 100,000 souls in Karakura Town,which has an unusually large concentration of spirit particles. Aside from killing the many souls used in its creation, creating the key will also vaporize most of Karakura Town.

In the series, he is usually seen wearing either his school uniform or a tee shirt. At one point in the series, he is seen wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt with a rose emblazoned on the left sleeve. The rose may be in honor of his grandfather seeing as how his grandfather's name was Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa, de la Rosa being Spanish for "of the Rose."
