Just how fast was the action? With 6 jams in under 8 minutes, the CBAs lead the Battlestars 16 -7 going into the 7th jam. In the 14th jam, the Battlestars welcomed the first power jam of the bout when CBA jammer Aceta Menacin’ was sent to the penalty box. The Battlestars picked up 7 points with about 10 minutes left in the first period, ending the jam with the CBAs leading 35 to 25.

Not to be outdone, the CBAs picked up 15 points in the 4th jam of the second period with a power jam. Lead jammer Aceta Menacin’ picked up two grand slams to increase the lead to 75 – 48 for the CBAs. With power jams for the Battlestars in jam 11, the CBAs in jam 12 and jam 15, both lead by Dare E. Eryn, the CBAs flew past the 100 mark despite a hard fall from Dare E. Eryn. Excellent blocking from Mauls Dolls, Uh Huh Hurricane, and Naylor Coffenshutt kept the Battlestars at bay.

With less than two minutes on the clock, the CBA’s Nutritional Beast made her debut as jammer, picking up 4 points for the CBAs while the Battlestars picked up 2. Down by 86, the Battlestars give it their all in the last jam with Jackie Sparrow picking up lead jammer status. Uh Huh Hurricane checked her out of bounds, but she got back up to pick up 3 grand slams and a total of 25 points for the Battlestars, ending the game at 162 – 97.

The Flatliners had a rough start against the Brewcity All Stars. The Flatliners didn’t make it on the board until jam 5, 2 – 14. The first power jam of the bout went to the All Stars in jam 8, with the Flatliners’ Shifty McGee trying to hold back the All Stars Scooter. Scooter picked up 10 for the All Stars, ending the jam at 2 – 29.

The Flatliners came back in the next jam, picking up 15 points to lessen the gap to 17 – 29. The Flatliners continued to trail the All Stars, taking heavy hits. The Flatliners got two power jams in a row, closing the gap further in jam 18 to 52-60. The pack rolled fast with All Stars jammer Zotay leading in the final jam of the period, and the Flatliners Bobbi McGuillotine hot on her trail.

In the second half, the Flatliners trailed the All Stars until the 19 th jam when the Flatliners got a power jam and picked up the lead, 132-126. Nuck L. Sammie lead the jam, picking up 15 points. With less than 4 minutes left on the clock, the Flatliners struggled to hold on to the lead when the All Stars’ Zotay skated into a power jam, picking up 15 points to regain the lead with 135 – 141. The Flatliners fought hard in the last jam of the game, gaining a power jam with Nuck L. Sammie as lead jammer. Shifty McGee kept Brewcity at bay, the clock ran out, and the jam continued. When the dust settled, the Flatliners lost to the All Stars by 2, 143-145. However “lost” is purely by numbers – BHRG proved they could take on the higher ranked Brewcity Bruisers, and emerge a force to be reckoned with.

On Saturday, June 9th Bloomington’s own will host the Circle City Derby Girls from Indianapolis and the Atlanta Rollergirls from Atlanta, GA at the Twin Lakes Rec Center.

Bouts start at 6pm when the Code Blue Assassins take on the CCDG Socialites. More derby action will follow at about 7:30 as the Flatliners take on the Atlanta All-Stars: The Dirty South Derby Girls.

Doors will open at 5pm.

With a close score and some amazing playing by both teams, fans were ready to watch the second half. By the time the 3rd jam came around the score was so close with the CBA 65 and Gang Green 64 the crowd was excited to see what came next. Another lead change took place when Gang Green’s jammer Outa My Wayman picked up a 9 point jam; bringing the score to 69-73 in Gang Green’s favor. The second half is filled with jam after jam of 2 or 3 points picked up by each team. With 3:50 left on the clock BHRG called a time out. The jammer for Gang Green was sent to the box and BHRG slowed down the pack to a roll in order for Dare E. Eryn to pick up a total of 13 points; causing another lead change CBA 108, Gang Green 102. The crowd was standing in anticipation! Dare E. Eryn and Paige Bleed took the jammer line, it looked like it might be the last jam of the bout. The whistle blew, the pack took off, and the jammers raced for lead. Dare E. Eryn emerged from the pack first and took lead jammer! She called off the jam, and the crowd roared; Bloomington’s own Code Blue Assassins had won!

Next up was the main event, the BHRG Flatliners were to take on the Ohio Roller Girls. The first jam whistle blew and Ohio’s jammer took the lead and scored 2 points. Kitty Liquorbottom took the jammer line for Ohio and Terror D’Bits was the jammer for the Flatliners. After both jammers spent a lap in the pack Terror got out and took lead jammer status, with a clean pass up the inside line the score was Flatliners 8 and OHRG 4. Jam 7 ended with the Flatliner’s jammer Terror D’ Bits heading to the box, this gave Ohio an advantage and Pippi Ripyourstockings took lead and points causing a lead change Flatliners 12 to Ohio 14. The next few jams were filled with strategic plays and lead jammer calls. Another lead change happened when Kaka Caliente took lead for the Flatliners and called it off, taking the score to Flatliners 16 and Ohio 14. This bout was full of lead changes and the crowd was excited to see such great competition. The half time score was Flatliners 30 and Ohio 53.

Announcers made it clear to the crowd that this bout was not over yet, the score was really very close and both teams were putting up a fight. The first jam of the second half ended with Ohio’s jammer HellionBoi picking up 4 points. The Flatliners struggled with getting jammers out of the pack, but they continued to fight. Nuck L. Sammie received lead jammer status for the Flatliners and picked up 4 points before calling which brought the score to Flatliners 34 and Ohio 64. Terror D’ Bits received lead in the next jam and picked up 3 points for Flatliners. It seemed that the Flatliners were really working on holding Ohio’s jammer back and the Flatliner jammers were picking away at Ohio’s lead. Nuck L. Sammie took lead jammer status for the Flatliners and put 9 points up to further shorten Ohio’s lead, bringing the score to Flatliners 37 and Ohio 71. A huge jam for Ohio happened when Kitty LiquorBottom took the lead and picked up 20 points taking the score to Flatliners 46 and Ohio 91. The next couple of jams are filled with some huge hits by both teams which caused some scoreless jams for Ohio. In the 15th jam Terror D’ Bits receives lead jammer status and picked up 4 points bringing the score to Flatliners 57 and Ohio 100. The Flatliners hold Ohio to three scoreless jams in a row inching the score closer to Ohio, making it 64-100. During the second to last jam of the night, the crowd was on their feet as Nuck L. Sammie scored 20 points on a power jam, making the score 84-100 going into the last jam. Unfortunately, BHRG lands 2 blockers in the box as well as the jammer, giving Ohio a power jam to finish the bout. The Ohio Roller Girls won with a final score of 115 to the Flatliners score of 90.

Your favorite Bloomington sports figures, the Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls, will be hitting Uncle E’s this Saturday night. A portion of the cover will be donated to help the team’s travel expenses. But more importantly, you get the chance to arm wrestle a roller girl! You can’t beat us on the track but you may beat us at the bar. Our own DJ Rukus will be spinning the beats.

The second half started off with DCRG’s Mel O Drama putting up 9 points, but BHRG fought back with a 15 point jam by Shock ‘n Roll. As the game continued it seemed like the second half was filled with penalties. People were in and out of the box for multiple reasons from blocking out of bounds to cutting the track. Both teams were playing down and, on occasion, the jammer seemed to get through the pack without being touched. BHRG’s defense remained strong, even with only two blockers on the track. There was a streak of scoreless jams for DCRG and BHRG had a couple of amazing jams including Shifty McGee’s 15 point jam. After some amazing hits, penalties, and strategic scrum starts, the Flatliners took the win with a final score of 220 to 76.

On Sunday the 19th the BHRG Code Blue Assassins took on Derby City’s B team. The bout started and DCRG’s jammer immediately put up 2 points. After that there were some scoreless jams for DCRG in which BHRG came back and put up 11 points. In jam 8 both teams scored and that lead to a half time score of BHRG 53 to 7. The second half was filled with some tough competition and both teams fought to put up points. DCRG put up 18 points in the 9th jam and Mae Kim Hurl scored a spectacular 30 points in the 15th jam with the help of her pack Thigh Candy, Special Sass, Squirrely Shirley, and Aceta Menacin’. The Code Blue Assassins won the bout 141 to 91.
