Hello and welcome to a gallery contest! Submit your best work

With the New Blender Gallery upgrade in full swing, Summer knocking at our door and Wes starting to grow a beard, we wanted to give the new gallery a good thorough stress test and so we thought “Lets have a Gallery Contest!”

How to enter

All you have to do is upload an image or images to the gallery before next Monday ( June 4th ). Then on Monday at a random time (basically as soon as we get our butts to the studio) the CG Cookie Crew will take a vote and choose the best image from each site. The community may also vote on the best image by pressing the heart icon next to your favorite image by Monday.

You may upload as many images as you would like, but remember we value quality, not quantity.

Upload Guidelines

Upload your image to this site

JPGs are recommended, less then 1600px wide, smaller then 1MB.

A good description along with the image to show off your work.

Make sure the work is of your own.

Note: Only images uploaded after the time of this post will be considered for the contest.

Judging

You will be judged on “overall first impressions”. I know this isn’t very scientific, but this contest is meant to be low stress and fun. Basically judges will review all entries/uploads, and the ones that strikes their fancy the most will win. Of course what goes into the overall first impression is; Modeling, Texturing, Lighting, Materials and Composition

Prizes

FIRST PLACE – 90 days of Citizen Membership

Honorable Mention – 30 days of Citizen Membership

Community Vote – 30 days of Citizen Membership

The 2010 Blender Training Series was CG Cookie’s first training series and is still one of our most popular series launched to date. Released back in 2010 it quickly became the series to watch to get yourself up to speed on Blender. Now two years have passed and we are proud to induct it into the Citizen Library. This means that the complete series is available free to all Citizen Members. This is something that all Citizen Members can expect with their membership. From now, with each series we do, after the training series has reached the age of 2 years it will be added to the Citizen library.

Introduction to Character Modeling

The second part of the 2010 Training Series takes you through the complete process of modeling a character from scratch, based on an excellent, original concept art by David Revoy. The concept art was specially commissioned just for this series. Even though many things have changed in Blender since this series was released, most of the content is still very relavant and provides a wealth of information.

CG Cookie has upgraded to a new custom gallery system which will provide more of a community experience while viewing the gallery and site. We’ve been able to cram in a few more features on the tail end of this update that I would like to take you through.

Updated Style

First and foremost, the gallery and user dashboard have been given a facelift. We felt the previous style of the gallery was already showing its age and so we spent a while on the design to make everything cleaner, easier to read, simpler to navigate, and all around easier on the eyes.

Previous/Next Image Browsing

Perhaps the most requested feature, when browsing the gallery you can now navigate to the previous or next image in the gallery right from the image page.

Following / Followers

Twitter started this trend and it turns out it is a good trend to follow You can now follow other users work, to be notified when they post new images. This is a great way to view updates from your favorite artists on the network.

Expanded Profiles

Each member of CG Cookie now has an enhanced profile page to showcase their artwork per site which include social links and information about them. The goal of this page is to provide a landing page to showcase your artwork to friends, family and businesses. From this page you have the ability to view image states, view users you’re following and those followers of your work.

Badges

Another part of the expanded profiles is a full badge system! Users will now receive badges for various things, such as being a Citizen member, winning a contest and others. A full list of the available badges will be coming soon!

Newsletter Sign-up

It’s now easier than ever to sign up for our various CG Cookie network newsletters. You may now manage your newsletter subscription straight from your user dashboard on CG Cookie.

Love an Image

If you see an image you love, you can let the author know by clicking the heart icon below the image.

Upload image status

Authors now have the ability to mark an image as in-progress or finished during the upload process. This will help direct the type of comments and feedback the author is looking to receive.

Expanded Control Panel

The side control panel has received an upgrade as well. You will now receive updates from users that you’re following and there is a new tab for your favorite images.

We are certain there are a few lingering bugs on the site. If you happen to find some please be sure to send us an e-mail to support@cgcookie.com. Thank you again for hanging with us on the site!

In this advanced tutorial by Stanislas Paillereau you will learn how to create a detailed animation of a book with turning pages. This tutorial uses simple methods that allow you to easily add as many pages as you would like, while also being easy to control and modify.

What you’ll learn :

Part 1 of this series covers the creation and animation of a custom tool made of a lattice that will be used to deform a page during the turn. You will also learn a technique to duplicate a single page-turn and apply a time offset to achieve the effect of many pages flipping.

Hello and welcome to this video tutorial on Sculpting a Human Bust in Blender!

In this Blender tutorial by Kent Trammell you’ll be introduced to a basic sculpting workflow for creating a human bust. The final result of the tutorial is shown below.

What you’ll learn:

Starting with a simple base mesh, you’ll learn to shape form and anatomy with an artistic perspective in Blender’s Sculpt Mode with brushes like Grab, Draw, Inflate, Pinch, and Crease. The majority of the sculpting is done symmetrically. Towards the end of the sculpt we’ll pose the torso easily in Edit Mode with the proportional editing tool, while maintaining the sculpted detail in the Multiresolution modifier.

If you’re not familiar with Blender’s sculpting system then I recommend you check out our Introduction Blender’s Sculpting System video. It is slightly out of date now, but most of the content is still relavant.

This Blender tutorial will take you through the complete process needed to create a destructive tornado with Blender’s smoke simulator and particles, complete with flying debris.

What you’ll learn:

While watching this tutorial you will learn how to setup a smoke simulation that is controlled by particle movement, how to influence the particles/smoke with multiple force fields, how to make an object break apart in the strong wind of the tornado, and finally you’ll learn how to render the tornado with a Volumetric material.

Part 01 of this tutorial covers how to create the simulation, particles and setting up the force fields to define the shape of the tornado. Part 02 will finalize the simulation and cover rendering.
