The Launch of

www.blewmagazine.com

After many endless days and nights working tirelessly on the new web site, it is finally up and launched onto the web. The last year at blogger has been wonderful, and without their free blog hosting, our dream of BLEW would never have been realized. After a long year of growing pains, we finally have our own domain and are ready to expand (slowly) into new territories. We have met some really amazing artists from all over this beautiful planet which we have become friends with, and look forward to an even more amazing year to come. The support from our readers and our colleagues has been shocking. We never expected to be received with such wide and open arms from everyone, and we would like to thank you all for your support in the past.

Please be patient with us, we are slowly switching everything over from blogger to our own domain site, and its quite the labour intensive project (reaches for the bottle of gin by the night stand).There are some NEW SECTIONS on the new site, including a EVENTS page (to list local and not so local art/party events we think you should know about, as well as a page to download our printed magazine (which will be out shortly). Other things to come soon also (link page and Friend page)

With the start of our second year here at BLEW, we have been working very hard (kicks empty gin bottles under the desk) on stepping it up here at the magazine, and jumping in head first. We are working on a new website, which will have the same blog, with some refinements of course, as well, we have a few new surprises that we are sure you all will love. The very talented french/italian duo (why does that word combination always get us excited) Vivian Ayroles and Stefano Marchionini, who we posted about a while back, have an slick new book out. Its titled "La Lande Des Selves" and its in a limited print run of only 30. Published by Laurent Chanpoussin of ZABRISKIEPT who make beautifully crafted hand made books, its definitely on our wish list this year. Its a very good price, and there are only a few left, so if you want to get your paws on one, you had better act fast.

Good things come in pairs, or so we were told as little boys. Its hard to disagree when starring at a beautiful set of buns or maybe even when you have a delicious set of balls cupped gently in your hands. Well, it turns out that boys also come best in sets of two, especially true when it comes to this creative duo that we recently discovered from France.

Exterface is made up of one part Julien and one part Stephane, and together is loaded with talent, style, creativity and raw sexual energy. Both just 24 years old, they joined forces to become a super power duo of gay fabulousness, with a massive portfolio (and were sure, other things as well). Even though were usually big fans of raw unedited images, we were immediately drawn to their smooth clean and polished style, which helps to create a complete series that tells one hell of a delicious story.

Heres what they have to say for themselves:

"They produce poetic pictures of sensuality, especially in the male form - its desires and meanings. Psychologically charged, Exterface push their models to show a hidden side. They attempt to manipulate them - exposing them, stripping them until they are lost between coloured light and darkness. Human isn't a human anymore; human becomes an indecent, urban, disguised, videogenic creature. Exterface's iconography is sexually charged, but always expresses an interior duality. Each series tells a story as a fresco where the plot is 'all is not what it seems'. Julien and Stéphane invite us to attend a spectacle where the model seems palpable yet somehow unreal. More than photographers, Julien and Stéphane are directors, painters and scenario writers. They play with artistic currents to prove that human nature hasn't revealed all its secrets just yet."

A very talented (and dirty) friend of ours has recently been making some pretty big accomplishments recently, including a book cover that was on US President Obama's reading list, and a 6 page spread in a pretty fantastic Japanese photography magazine. He was also the Canadian and then International winner for the Metro Photo Challenge contest last year, winning him a pretty fucking hot camera (with a lens that makes my thighs tingle every time he pulls it out), and a trip to Paris. All in all, its been an amazing year for him, and we would like to see that success continue on into the new year.

One of his photos has, once again, been short listed for first place in the Metro Photo Challenge this year, and if we want to continue to see some hot and dirty photos from this amazingly talented stud, then you had just better help him out. We are kicking off (and also maybe whacking off) this friday with a spicy little number we like to call TICKET TO HELL, a quarterly magazine of eroticism and boy-art! With a name and tag line like that, it was a sure winner in our books. We stumbled, literally, upon this amazing photographer (probably because we were drinking in the afternoon again) through a friend of a friend of a ex in NYC, and after taking a peek through his portfolio, and another glass of wine, we were pretty darn impressed. We saw that he had a set of photos titled "Montreal", and we knew it was going to be good shit because almost everything from the city is fucking gold. The photos seems to have been arranged in order to tell a story, and boy did that story make us blush.

His ability to tell a narrative with his photos is pretty dead on, and the aesthetic / mood created with tones, lines and shapes captivated us and really draws one into his work, making us want to explore each photograph in depth. There seems to be a hallow silence in all of his work, slightly eerie and haunting.

Ok everyone, pile into the time machine (don't worry, its safe, and I brought some vodka and half naked models along to make the ride fun), your taking a trip down memory lane with us to last spring, when we posted about Sybrandts super talented and sexy designer friend in NYC, Christopher Lee Sauve.

We always love to get behind a good protest, especially when it involves scantily clad boys shouting about fashion and getting all riled up, but then again, who wouldn't. So, we were very excited when we heard he was up to his usual fabulous shenanigans, stirring up controversy and causing general mayhem, while still being a classy bitch. He rounded up a bunch of hot models, gave them some banners and his t-shirts, and staged a "Save Fashion" Protests" in the Harajuku district in Tokyo to launch his new exhibit "Fuck The Recession! Save Fashion!" His line is being carried at ADDITION ADELAIDE and INTERNATIONAL GALLERY BEAMS, two hot beds of fashion and art, in an already pretty fashionable city.

While we were away working hard (mostly at partying and being dirty rotten scoundrels) over the last few months, we received a lovely little email in our box from an artist named Christopher Carroll. He sent us some samples of his work, and we now understand why smart phones are a dangerous thing to have in public sometimes. Note to self: never check your e-mail while on a lunch date with your grandparents. It's not that we want to hide who we are, but poor granny doesn't need to see penis before the soup arrives.

Regardless, we were immediately impressed with his work. Apparently we are not the only ones, because our friends over at Try Sate Magazine just featured his work on their blog for the print magazine. Theres something captivating and private about his works, that capture our gaze and draw us into the scene. He works with several film and digital cameras, including a Hasselblad (which is impressive enough to give any photographer a HUGE envy boner). Our favourite here at the office, is the one below, with the guy in the 3D glasses. Theres something beautifully amusing and curious about his piece, almost mysterious.

Jessica Yatrofsky

The MFA Photography Department at Parsons The New School for Design presents

Performance and the Male Nude

a live event by Jessica Yatrofsky, to occur on August 19th at 8pm, in the Arnold and Sheila Aronson Gallery on 66th 5th Avenue near 13th street.

During her MFA candidacy, Yatrofsky has honed her conceptual and aesthetic intentions to address issues of power, censorship and confrontation. Her performances consistently subvert the male gaze and create a contemplative charged environment. She herself plays the role of photographer, taking Polaroid pictures of her blindfolded male model. The model, nude, performs auto-eroticism while another man performs classical music.

Yatrofsky's thesis work is mentally titillating more than it is erotic. She is interested in giving male nudity a presence outside commercial and pornographic intentions, and in deconstructing the cultural attitudes toward her subject matter.

This performance is in conjunction with the Parsons MFA Photo Thesis Exhibition Graduate Works in Photography, opening Wednesday, August 26th in the same gallery space.

The performance will happen one time only, promptly at 8pm, for a duration of ten minutes.

We came out of Vacation mode to post this special update for our friend Jessica, who is doing some fucking amazing work in New York. If you don't go, you will regret it for the rest of your life. First off, we just wanted to say that the new character on True Blood, Godric, is fucking HOT and we kind of wouldn't mind if he wanted to rape us. It turns out he is a big homo in the show, which is only making us more addicted to this sexy blood fueled drama. Anyways, we just thought you should know..... now on to more important things.

With summer deciding to FINALLY get its ass in gear and get hot enough to actually call itself summer, Sybrandt has decided to take a month off to do some traveling and general getting ready for back to school in September. Do not fear though! While he is away, we will be working on some improvements, changes, layouts and all around general spiffing up of the blog. Being that he is the editor in chief, who were we to complain if he wanted to take a month long vacation. We may be popping back in a few times to drop quick little notes from the road, or wherever, but for the most part, we will be away being super sumer gay and fantastic. See you all in September.

The name says it all really. Expect mayhem, debauchery and a mild case of the itchies after a good ol dirty evening of "no pants" fun. Taking place at Sneaky Dee's, the notorious queer/gender bending emporium of underground gay culture is sure to throw a party to not be forgotten, unless you were to drunk to remember. Not only do you get to party with your pants off, but you also get to help raise money to support the Toronto AIDS Walk For Life folks. The fine folks organizing this have included some simple and easy to follow steps to ensure you have a good "no pants" evening:

I think we have said this before, but one of our favorite things in this high tech modern world is receiving mail the old fashioned way, hand delivered by a grouchy overpaid, underworked civil worker with a chip on his shoulder and a mustache gay out of a 1983 porn movie (yes the mistake in this sentence is very on purpose!)

We dragged our asses down the stairs recently, bleary eyed, coffee in one hand, duct taped slippers and stolen hotel robe in full effect, to find a package waiting patiently for us in our box (much like the extremely younger boy we picked up outside the pinball arcade and then forgot outside our apartment in a haze of scotch and cigars, who had curled up in our hallway and patiently waited all night for us to come out of our booze coma). Don't worry, he's still alive, and a much better person for it. We were very happy, and surprised to find both of these treats at the bottom of our stairs, and so we would like to share one of them with you. (We will also sell you the boys number for the right price)

Handbook, published by the brilliant Darren Ankenbauer from San Francisco, made our month! The name, which is a great little play on words, is extremely handy when you find your self alone and frisky, makes you want to use your hands to do something useful and/or dirty, and fits into your hand very easily. This smart little quarterly alternative publication takes its cues from vintage styled gay erotica magazines, but with a modern and beautiful twist that fits into, what we feel, is the esthetic of the new modern gay male. Its sophisticated and artful, while remaining dirty enough not to pretend its only seeking out one genre and concept. With fantastic themed photo shoots ranging from 1930's to homopunk to jock/boy next door, it creates an eclectic and exciting mix of dirtiness that makes us scratch our crotch and our beard. We love the tag line:

The photography work (by Darren also) is stunning, and the mix of raw and polished styles gives us a huge photo boner. It all works beautifully together to form a unique and very interesting little magazine thats well worth keeping "handy" (sorry we couldn't help ourselves).

She has recently completed a stunning set of exclusive photos for the printed edition of the BLEW magazine, (which you will have to get the magazine to see).

She also sent us a cute/sexy/funny/artsy video her and a friend worked on together. It involves some of Jessica's and ours favorite subjects. Boys, boys with tattoos, boys smoking and looking bored, boys smoking naked, boys being naked, spoken words in french, and.....well....peen! We like it, not only because there's a beautiful naked boy in it smoking and looking bored, but also because it asks the questions we often find ourselves scratching our heads to. This time only, the voice is in french, and its much more beautiful than we sound, even in our own heads. We suggest you watch it, otherwise people will think your not gay. Oh wait, maybe your not. *Well, either way, they won't think your cool, sexy, desirable, or interesting either if you don't watch it, so for fuck sakes, watch the damn thing. Your very coolness depends on it.

Night Vision - Vancouver

East Van is heating up once again, and this night is sure to be a one hot evening of outdoor art and debauchery. Strathcona Park is hosting the outdoor photo projection project, bringing together a shitload of really good artists from all over. So, it may seem like we have been slacking for the last week or so, and it may or may not be partly true. However, we have also been busy little Homos, working on the new layout for the print edition of the magazine, coming out very soon. We have also been working on some new sets of photos submitted by some really fucking amazing artists from all over this big dirty planet.

Introducing

Light Weaver

The fantastic Homephoto guy Jay A. Rickard, or more popularly known as Light Weaver in the photo world, recently sent us a submission that we think is pretty fuckin hot.

This adorable and dirty guy from Indianapolis, is both talented and imaginative when it comes to his photography, and you can see it in his works. He has been at it for a long time now, carefully honing his skills and developing a style all his own. We also like that he takes some risks with his work, and is not afraid to work outside the norms. He has a long list of people he has worked with, and everyone has nothing but great things to say about him and his work. He also has a great web site that lets you save favorite photos of his work, so you can remember which ones gave you a tingly feeling deep inside.

As soon as we opened the set he sent to us, we knew he had really pulled together something special. It is an amazing set of photos that really fit well with what were all about here at BLEW. The tones and colors are beautiful, and there is a wonderful and surprising connection between the subject and the environment around him in the photos. Altogether, it came together to create a very moving set of work. Check out his blog as well, to keep up with his new works coming out.

Introducing

Adriano Batista

Wham Bam Padam, Thank you mam! We recently ran across the beautiful and brazen artist Adriano Batista from Barcelona, Spain, where Sybrandt and his boyfriend Uwajedi were visiting (and by visiting, we mean whoring around) in February of this year. It seems like Spain is a hot and sweaty bed of art and culture these days, making a comeback in the photography scene that will not soon be forgotten.

His work is vivid, fresh, and brazen, exposing everything in the wide open for the viewer to see. Each set is carefully thought out and well framed, with beautiful tones and shades, capturing a true feeling that heightens the sexual overtones in the photo without making it grotesque or perverse. He seems to come up new locations to shoot in every time, capturing interesting perspectives which give the viewer an unusual peek into the moments and themes he sets up. He has a very sharp eye for design that comes through in his work, and we are sure he is going to do amazing things to come. His work was already featured in one of our favorite publications, TRYSTATE MAGAZINE, and we are going to be keeping our eyes on this hot little 22 year old.

Here is what he says about himself:

I believe I can say my work lays primarily on fashion photography with the characteristic of featuring a lot more boobies and testicles. I'm moved by an insatiable voyeurism, going through everything in the action, from the smallest detail to the whole composition itself. I'm fascinated by the corporal and sexual expression and for exhibitionism without any fear or shame.I like my pictures to face the observer.My work is very sexual, with explicit nudity and exhibitionism,always laying on a concept.I really like to tease and criticize, not always using nudes for that purpose. I use then, a sharp humour and kitsch aesthetics as adornment to my photos. There is a strong sense of theatrics on my photos even though some of them are absolutely spontaneous; wich is achieved through great cumplicity between the photographer and the models. I don't shine on the conventional technique , for that is not what I seek, I value most of all the concept and the meaning of the photograph.

Guerilla Art Project

Well, summer is finally fucking here, and just in time for Pride week here in Toronto. With all the sweaty boys and girls running around with as little clothing on as possible, we are ramping up for a very long week of mid afternoon boozing and all around slutty behavior. We have been busy little beavers the last few weeks, working on all sorts of new side projects and collaborations.

With all of this change, we thought it was high time we did a little clean up/revamp of the blog. We are also working on a new site, hopefully to be launched sometime in the next few months. We have also been working with some artists on a Guerilla styled art project, pictured above and below. This one is the first in a series of stickers being posted around the city so keep your eyes peeled while your on your knees in the back alley. You may just run into a few of our little blew guys, and hopefully you will enjoy.

Feel free to snap a pic and send it to us when you find one of our little dirty boys, and also feel free to show us your junk in the photo as well. There will certainly be enough of it around with this stupid garbage strike, but you can really never have enough junk.
