There will be eight teams in attendance at ESL One New York. Each of these eight invited teams strike us as the top teams in the world right now. With a decent balance between NA and Europeans teams at the event, we will be witness to some of the highest quality of Counter Strike since the PGL Krakow Major.

The eight teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. The two groups will follow a double elimination system which will see only four teams being able to make it into the semifinals. Prima Facie, Group A is relatively weaker when compared to Group B.

There are three teams which present the biggest challenge to the favorite teams. The favorites for the tournament are definitely SK Gaming and Astralis. However they have been the favorites for several tournaments and yet have failed to deliver. In this article we are examining three teams, who have shown improvements in the past few weeks. They have the highest chances of upsetting one of the ‘favorites’ and creating an imbalance in the final outcome of the tournament. Take a look at the Upsetters.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid are one of the strongest challenger teams at ESL One New York. The North American team has been a revelation for many at the recently concluded ESG Mykonos. They were able to defeat SK Gaming and that comes as a big surprise considering the theoretical skill gap between the two teams.

Twistzz has been key to their success at ESG Mykonos

Liquid has evolved in a big way in the past few months. Their addition of Twistzz has only augmented their firepower. Twistzz has a 1.17 rating on HLTV, which is very good and comparable to the best in the industry. These ratings are just for the past three months, which basically covers his entire time in Team Liquid. The former Misfits player has been a revelation of sorts and has been one of the most consistent players with the rifle for the NA Squad. With Twistzz and Stanislaw holding down their end of the spectrum, we turn our attention to the AWP. JDM is by far one of the best AWP Players for North America. His consistency with the AWP is matched by his poor performance in the rifle. However, if we have strong players already filling in for JDM’s poor performance we have a match on our hands.

ESG Mykonos results : A fluke?

For many observers, ESG Mykonos was a lucky break for Liquid. No one really expected them to reach the finals, definitely not with SK Gaming, Mousesports and Gambit being in the mix. SK Gaming are definitely not proving to be the world class team that propelled them to Rank No. 1. However, ESL one New York is a tournament where there are several top teams. With the likes of Astralis, Virtus Pro, SK Gaming and even the local Cloud9 roster participating ESL One New York will test the true potential of Team Liquid.

An important note about the Team liquid Transformation in the past few months is to do with the leadership shift within the team. With Stanislaw taking a back seat, he can focus on lurking and his gameplay. Nitro has already proven himself to be a capable leader and one who can steer the team into victory. Liquid did lose to Virtus Pro at ESG Mykonos, but there is no doubt that the team looked much stronger than before.

Liquid has had months of poor performances which saw them as an also ran. ESG Mykonos is an event where they lived up to their potential and which is the only reason we are including them in this upset list. Whether they can replicate their strong performance in this event is a question that only Liquid can answer.

Team Liquid performance in the past three events :

PGL Krakow Main Qualifier : 9th to 11th

ESL One Cologne 2017 : 5th to 8th

ESG Mykonos : 2nd

Virtus Pro

Virtus Pro have been the team that everyone knows will rise again, but no one knows when. The potential of this team is very high, considering the caliber of the players within the team. The Virtus Pro roster is the best Polish roster to have ever played together. Each of the players has proved himself repeatedly on the international stage. The team has seen several ups and downs. On their best day they can be the World No.1, however, these ‘best days’ are few and far between. The Virtus Pro roster is known for its roster stability. But that really does not provide a stable performance. Hence the team needs to regularly make some changes to the way they play. This includes In Game Leading, Lurks, Game Style etc.

The VP roster is the longest standings CSGO roster

Virtus Pro have had very mixed results in the past few months. When we take a look at the three previous LAN events that they have attended there is a definite inconsistency which manifests itself in these results.

Virtus Pro Results :

ESL One Cologne : 15th to 16th

PGL Major Krakow : 3rd to 4th

Dreamhack Masters Malmo : 13th to 16th

ESG Mykonos : 4th

These results are swinging from good to group stage exits and that is something that has defined the Polish roster since several years. Inconsistency in their results has led different nomenclatures for the team such “Virtus Plow” & “Virtus Throw”.

What are the expectations of Virtus Pro as we come into ESL One New York? This tournament will see several top teams competing together. The difference between the performance of the various teams is very narrow and the favorites actually have a very thin lead. Virtus Pro have a very wide map pool. The players have proficiency playing on almost all the maps. While previously, Dust2 was their permanent veto, with the introduction of Inferno they shifted their map veto towards Inferno. As a result, they do face a small disadvantage in the veto. Their opponents can easily summarise the veto process depending on Virtus Pro’s map pick.

His performance is key to VP’s final results

Leadership Changes

Another important change that Virtus Pro have implemented in the last few months has to be their In Game leadership. We have seen the Polish roster change their IGL’s several times depending on their results. Till recently, it was Snax who was the In Game Leader for the team. However taking on the mantle of an In Game Leader is definitely Taxing and as a result, we had seen a dip in Snax’s performance. One of the most valuable players on the roster, Snax has won several Clutch situations to win key rounds for Virtus Pro. With Taz taking up the In Game Leadership role, Snax has shown an inclination to get back to his previous form.

If Snax is back to his old form, Virtus Pro can be a team that is scary, to say the least. They should not win the tournament, but it’s not totally impossible especially considering how bad SK Gaming, Astralis and Faze are right now. We expect Virtus Pro to reach the semifinals if they have a good showing.

Natus Vincere

Natus Vincere have made some very recent changes to their CS GO team. The addition of Zeus & Kane brings around a very new tactical aspect to the CIS team. NaVI is not really unfamiliar with Zeus. Zeus has been a part of the CIS roster before and was very well respected within the team. Indeed Guardian’s lack of form had a very strong correlation with the manner in which Zeus was ousted from the roster.

Natus Vincere have not had good performances. These results date to even before they made the roster change. With Zeus at their helm, the CIS Squad has played in two tournaments, both of which saw NaVI being eliminated very early in the event.

Na’Vi results before Zeus :

ESL One Cologne 2017 : 3rd to 4th

PGL Krakow Major : 12th to 14th.

Na’Vi’s results after Zeus :

Dreamhack Masters Malmo 2017 : 5th to 8th

Eleague CS GO premier : 9th to 12th

There has been no visible change in the results for the NaVi team before and after the addition of Zeus. Part of the blame lies with the number of events that they are attending. The Na’Vi roster is in constant travel mode as they have attended events almost every weekend in various countries all over the world. Zeus is a very tactical leader and he needs time to work with the roster. Time is the key word here and is also the resource that NaVi lack right now.

Will Simple be able to carry NaVi deep in the event?

NaVi still relies heavily on Simple to do the heavy lifting for the team. Simple is one of the best players in the world and for sure has been the most impactful players on NaVi after Guardian’s departure. However without a proper plan and set strategies we see NaVi falling back in individual brilliantness but no team work. The team’s pace has definitely slowed down during the previous events. This has a lot to do with Zeus being a part of the team and it takes us back several years when NaVi were well known for their very late attempts at taking over a site. It calls for a lot precision, a lot of trust and very tight timelines. It requires a lot of practice for the team and it brings us back to the lack of time together for the team

NaVi will not be able to make it to the finals of the tournament. They simply have not had the time to practice together. However they are a team which can upset the seedings and placements as we move into the playoffs of the stage.

Final Thoughts

We do not think that either of these three teams would be able to win the ESL One NY 2017. However they have been looking strong and there is a very high possibility for either one to make a deep run in the tournament. All the teams have undergone changes in the very recent past, be it in the form of roster changes or leadership changes. The initial results post these changes has been positive, but this tournament will be the true test to the potential of these teams.

ESL One New York starts on 15th of September 2017. You can watch the matches being streamed live on Twitch.

Dreamhack Montreal was witness to an unprecedented decision on the part of the tournament organisers. Dreamhack decided to have Immortals forfeit one map in the Grand finals for the 3 days, $100,000 tournament. This decision was taken after the majority of the Immortals squad failed to report on time for the finals. As per sources, both the teams were required to report in 90 minutes before the Grand finals.

What happened?

Immortals and North Gaming qualified for the finals after wading through a number of teams at Dreamhack Montreal 2017. Coming off the gruelling schedule which saw Immortals travel from Europe to Montreal in a few days, the team could have been forgiven for not performing well. But they did perform well and reached the grand finals of the tournament. While there were no complaints about their performance, not until the finals at least the team has been involved in a big controversy regarding the professionalism of their players.

Immortals were unable to report on time for the Grand Finals. After waiting for around 45 minutes past the scheduled starting time, Dreamhack took a final decision. Immortals were to forfeit Map 1 in the Grand Finals. Now the finals schedule was accelerated due to the semi final finishing in a 2-0 scoreline. All the concerned players had already been informed of the accelerated schedule and were also warned of the consequences if they were to report late for the finals.

However, despite all these warnings three of the Immortals players still did not turn up for the finals. The punishment was announced via social media when Marc Winther tweeted out Dreamhack’s decision.

Immortals did not show up in time for the start of the grand final and as a result have forfeited the first map.

The three Immortals players in question were kngV, Lucas and Hen1. According to sources, these three players were partying late into the night before the actual Grand finals. This is something that is not unprecedented for the Immortals players. A similar tweet during the Grand finals for the PGL Krakow Major also pointed out to the partying by the Immortals players.

There were two players who were present on the stage at the predetermined time. The two players who were at the venue were Steel and Boltz according to CLG Coach, Ryu. These players arrived on time for both the semifinals and the finals, while the remaining three players could not turn up on time.

The Immortals player concerned obviously denied these accusations of partying. Lucas, one of the players in the midst of all this controversy vehemently denies any partying on the part of the players. He blames the jet lag as the players had to travel from Greece to Mykonos. Even so, the situation which unfolded after this decision is what is worrisome not only for the Immortals organisation but also the Brazilian CS GO community in general

Kngv had a totally different version of the truth. According to him the players from Immortals were in the server twenty minutes past the stated time. The Dreamhack admins have stated that Immortals were nowhere to be found even 45 minutes past the scheduled start of the game.

For the record, I have no idea if they partied or not. It was all a joke from my end but I can see why it would hurt them. Sorry again.

Immortals CEO Noah Winston has already promised of consequences for the players’ actions. This might mean a roster change or more importantly a suspension of some sorts from the active squad of the Immortals team.

What happened after?

The Dreamhack decision was the final decision taken by the organisers and it rightfully stands. The situation got worse later with several of the Brazilian players taking their opinions to Twitter. The twitter war that was carried out by the Brazilian players led to a lot of surprises and some death threats by kngV too.

This was a direct physical harm death threat by KnGvito towards FNS. FNS’ tweet was obviously a joke where he belittles his own team. He never meant to instigate KngV with the tweet. However even if we suppose he did mean every word of it and we can see how it could anger KnGv; it does not justify the death threat by kngvito.

This is definitely the biggest faux pas that KnGv has done. According to multiple sources, knGv even went into a fit of rage and stormed through the players’ hotel to try to find FNS.

People had to restrain KNGVito and also keep a safe distance between FNS and KnGV. There was definitely a possibility of a physical altercation between the two players if they had come close enough to each other.

There is no way to verify if the players were actually partying the night before. Unless someone who was with them the night before the finals can confirm their presence wherever, it is all hearsay. However, according to multiple reports, kngV went searching for FNS in the hotel room. His anger and rage definitely got the better of him, and his behaviour in addition to his tweet threatening to kill FNS is unbecoming of a professional player.

Do not Generalize

It was only three players involved in this controversy. People should not generalize this situation across the entire Brazilian CS community. The Brazilian players have come from varied backgrounds, lives where such statements might just be ways of enticing fear but never to actually act upon them. However, they are in a different country, a different place. As the old saying goes: ” When in Rome, Do as the Romans”. This behaviour by the players is unacceptable. It is one thing to be angry at someone, but doling out death threats is definitely uncalled for.

The organisation is also at fault in this situation. They should have exerted some control over their players and prevented them from going to social media. The lack of any official statement from the organisation has only made matters worse.

We urge everyone not to generalize the situation. We have a lot of respect for most of the players from Brazil. Players such as Fallen, Coldzera etc. have earned the respect of the community by being brutal in their gameplay. They have also led their community and built a thriving CS GO scene in Brazil. There are always going to be sour grapes in the bunch, but if adequate punishment is meted out we will see the players iron out their behavioural problems.

Our take on the situation

There is no doubt that the Immortals players were unprofessional in their behaviour. The Immortals players come from a very hard background and have worked hard to get where they are. No one can take away from their hard work in their past and their performance in CS GO.

The Immortals players screwed up not only their career, their organisation name but also Dreamhack’s business. You have to realise that Dreamhack Montreal’s final was on the same day as ESG Mykonos. Dreamhack’s business relies heavily on the viewership numbers, something that they can sell to their sponsors for future funding.

Immortals should take action against Immortals. They have already delayed the decision and it led to the entire spat on twitter. With esports growing at a phenomenal pace, we are seeing more and more youngsters being introduced to a new way of life. With easy money being available to talented it is important to have guidance and psychologists helping these players learn the value of hard work and professionalism. Esports organisations need to invest in such support staff and ensure the true development of players. KnGvito is a very talented individual and one who would definitely have reached a top team were it not for his actions at Montreal. He can still correct himself, focus on his game and attitude and make a career for himself.

Update : KngV will not be playing in Immortals for their Eleague Matches. While the official word is visa problems Cogu will be replacing the young player on Immortals for now.

As the date for ESG Mykonos drew closer there were high expectations from certain teams. With SK Gaming & Virtus Pro being a part of ESG Mykonos, one could be forgiven for predicting an SK vs VP grand final. Both these teams have lots to prove having been unable to leave an impact in the previous tournaments. The € 200,000 Prize Pool is a small amount compared to the prestige of winning a tournament, which has eluded these teams for some time now.

Coming close on the heels of the Dreamhack Masters Malmo, ESG Mykonos was seen as a “revenge tournament” for SK Gaming. They are the World No.1 team and rightfully so having won multiple tournaments in the past months. However, their recent performances have not reflected any semblance of their prior dominance. SK Gaming failed to make it to the finals of the last three premier tournaments that they have attended. They were one of the favorites to win ESG Mykonos and it would be a disappointment if they would be unable to make it at least to the finals.

Virtus Pro as a team have not been performing up to their potential coming into this tournament. They were eliminated in the Group stage at Dreamhack Malmo. A few fans blamed the tournament format for their elimination, but nothing could actually forgive their brutal and embarrassing loss to Renegades. They were one of the strongest teams in CS GO for a brief period of time, so their fall from grace has definitely saddened a lot of fans. But Virtus Pro have always been this team with a lot of potential but a lack of consistency. The team which has signed contracts till 2020 definitely is under a lot of pressure to produce results for their organisation.

Technical Delays bring back old memories

The tournament has seen its fair share of delays and problems with power outages being a common feature at the tournament. CSGO tournaments have become a lot more professional and technical delays are hardly experienced nowadays. While the exact reason for these technical delays has not been known, the delays were a common feature throughout the various days at Mykonos. Entire teams would get disconnected in the middle of a game and it would definitely break the momentum of a match. The round restart which happened in the semifinal could have potentially altered the final standings for the teams. The laid back atmosphere which saw the three analysts being ferried on a helicopter definitely added a new angle to the cast. The players could be seen swimming or just hanging around in the pools and enjoying the Greek atmosphere. It was definitely a unique event on the island of Mykonos, Greece. Mykonos nickname in Greece means the island of winds, which is aptly named after the windy atmosphere.

ESG Mykonos presented us with an exciting angle to teams’ performance. Following the player break, we have seen teams not being in the same form as they were during the Major. However, there are also teams such as Virtus Pro, who have definitely seemed much stronger in this tournament. This tournament is the final tournament before most of the teams head out to North America for ESL One New York.

SK Gaming

SK Gaming are definitely the best team in the world for the majority of 2017. They Brazilian roster has repeatedly been able to win Majors, big ticket tournaments and exert their dominance in online leagues. Frankly, they do not have much left to prove to any viewer. They were one of the favorites to win the PGL Krakow Major. However, the Swiss format and the lack of proper seeding at the Major meant that SK faced Astralis early in the Quarterfinals. They lost 0-2 to the Danish team, which was not totally surprising. Astralis have been one of the best teams in the world and they are a bane in the SK Gaming roster.

SK – Malmo 2017

SK Gaming went into Dreamhack Malmo 2017 as one of the favorites for the tournament. Their performance at the Major was considered a blip in their string of wins. The first match was against DreamScape which was definitely a big mismatch for the Asian team. SK were able to roll over them easily and win 16-2. However, their next match provided a bigger challenge in the form of North Gaming. MSLs teams were able to defeat SK in a closely contested Best of three 2-1 and proceed to the semifinals. While SK were extremely dominant in the first map of Cobblestone, it seemed like an entirely different match-up in the next two maps. Coldzera was visibly absent from the scoreboard and that reflected in the final result. Despite being one of the most influential players in the world, he managed a meager +7 on the scoreboard for this match.

The effect Coldzera has on the performance by SK cannot be measured from the scoreboard. He is instrumental to making amazing individual plays for the team. Even if he is unable to score multiple kills at time ( which is very rare in itself) his impact on the round and on future rounds ( economically) is huge. Amongst the Danish players, CajunB and K0nfig led their team to victory. The performance of the SK lineup was visible disoriented with a distinct lack of team coordination. In the previous SK era, this would have been covered up with amazing individual performances by the extremely talented members of SK. Coldzera’s four AWP kills on Mirage is definitely something that comes to mind, when we think about amazing individual performances. However as the players were unable to pull off amazing plays in this tournament, SK gaming faltered.

However, the biggest evidence of some problems within the team were exposed in their match against G2. SK were leading with a significant advantage on Inferno. But G2 were able to make a stunning comeback against SK gaming and win the map on Overtime. A 6-7 round comeback is not unheard of, but not from G2 which is a team known to play off momentum. SK were eliminated from the tournament in the quarterfinals, but it was the nature of their elimination which raised several eyebrows.

These tournaments definitely led many to believe that SK would come out really strong at ESG Mykonos. After all, the invited teams at this Greek tournament were not the strongest of teams. Even a well known Polish roster in Virtus Pro has been suffering from months of poor results and inconsistent group stage exits at major tournaments. SK Gaming were the favorites by a large margin for this tournament with many not seeing any visible competition for the Brazilian roster. However, the team has not lived up to it’s potential with Coldzera still missing from the scoreboard in a significant way. When you look at the Scoreboard you will definitely find Coldzera amongst the top performers in the team. But that is not the level that we have been used to seeing off Coldzera consistently. With a high skill ceiling and repeatedly good performances, we

Twistzz has been a terror for opponents

have been used to seeing Coldzera carry the Brazilians to victory repeatedly.

SK’s loss to Liquid was not even a closely contested match-up. Liquid simply overtook the Brazilians and SK never seemed in control of the game. With Twistzz and JDM lining up their shots, SK did not stand a chance in the match. It might be a surprise to read this statement, but SK were outmatched in this series. We don’t expect SK to make a deep run in their next tournament, ESL One New York. Not in their current form at least.

Virtus Pro

Virtus Pro is the one of the most loved teams in CS GO history. With Taz at the helm of the team, this team has it’s fair share of fans across the world. Virtus Pro has been the longest standing roster in CS GO history. They believe that roster changes are not the solution to poor results. While this might stem from a lack of visible Polish talent, the players themselves also believe in their job security and individual player skills. They have tried several approaches to help them get out of the slump that they invariably and often find themselves in. The Polish roster has seen its fair share of glory and fame, however for the most part they are the team that poses a significant threat, but never materializes on it.

Most of the top teams in the world are scared of what a fully firing Virtus Pro roster could look like. However their inconsistency in their plays and results means that Virtus Pro are found on the losing side many a times. The team came into this tournament following months of poor results and weak group stage exits from tournaments. Their Major exit was followed by a Groups stage exit yet again at Dreamhack Malmo.

Dreamhack Malmo 2017

At Dreamhack Malmo, they were up against Na’Vi in the first match. While that loss definitely is not surprising considering that Na’Vi were firing on all cylinders, almost no one expected Virtus Pro to lose out against Renegades. The fact that Virtus Pro chose to veto Mirage over Cache, when Mirage is one of their strongest maps also does not make sense. They lost 16-7 to Renegades, in what can only be described as an extremely one sided match for the NA roster.

Coming into this tournament Virtus Pro were definitely in a slump. With repeated failures at big tournaments, they were never expected to win the first place at Greece. Obviously, they are a strong team and the lack of other strong teams in the tournament always meant that Virtus Pro present a significant threat for the top place.

ESG Mykonos

The beauty of Mykonos islands

If you are a Virtus Pro fan, this tournament would have felt as a huge sigh of relief. After a very easy Group stage where they defeated BIG gaming and Liquid with healthy margins, the Poles looked really strong and unstoppable ( at least till the semi finals ). Their quarterfinal match was against Mousesports in a best of three series. Mousesports have been performing really well especially with the consistency in Oskar as a star performer. However with Virtus Pro’s players firing all cylinders it was definitely going to be a close match.

The Semi Finals started with Cache, Overpass and Train. Cache is the best map for Mousesports and it presented them with their best opportunity to win the match-up. However Virtus Pro were able to edge out Mouz 16-14 on Cache following a team effort which saw most of the players within 3-4 kills of each other. With an ADR of 98.6, Byali definitely had the biggest impact amongst the Poles.

The next map was Overpass, which was supposed to be an extremely easy walk in the park for Virtus Pro. Considering the fact that the new roster of Mousesports has never played Overpass and the team has generally been avoiding the map altogether; this definitely was not a map that the Mouz roster was expected to perform well on. However they took the bull by the horns and won the map with significant ease and a scoreline of 16-6.

The third and final map was Train, which presented fair game to both the teams. Both the teams are extremely strong on this map and have seen amazing CT and T Sides from the team. With the ‘clash of the titans’ for this mapm it was definitely an exciting match to watch. And it proved to be every bit as exciting as it promised. This map saw the scoreline being extremely close with rounds being exchanged with regularity amongst the two teams. However midway through the match, a weird situation developed which potentially could have had an impact to the final result at the tournament.

A decision that definitely changed the outcome

A power outage resulted in a round being replayed two times by the ESG admins. This resulted in the original outcome of the rounds being altered and mousesports won the round instead of Virtus Pro. The original round had seen Pasha hit two amazing deagle shots. The Mouz roster was already calling for a save when the disconnect happened. However multiple replays of the round meant that Mouz were aware of the post plant positions for Virtus Pro and could easily win the round. The final score of the map was 16-14 in favor of Mousesports and it’s not unreasonable to believe that this round would have almost surely altered the final score for the map. The admins actually deviated from the rulebook in order to make this decision, something that we do not agree with.

Our hats are off to Virtus.pro who agreed to this “unconventional” ruling.

We hope you will still enjoy the last day we have prepared for Betway ESG Tour Mykonos 2017!

Virtus Pro did reach the minimum expected of them in the end. The team looks much stronger now than just a few weeks ago. The resurgence of Snax and Byali being ever aggressive and successful in his game plays spells danger for other teams at ESL One New York.

Mousesports

Mousesports have been a revelation at this tournament. The European roster which was mainly seen as a team which upsets favorites in the Group stages has come along a long way. Led by the consistency in Oskar’s performance and Ropz pulling his act together during the tournament.

The Grand finals was a Best of Five format with both the teams vetoing one map each. The first map was Cobblestone of Mousesports’ pick. Mouz started the map with a quick pistol win which was followed by several minutes of technical delays. These delays definitely broke the momentum for the team as Liquid were able to get a series of rounds and gain an early advantage. Mousesports CT side was a complete disaster for Liquid as the NA roster was able to win just 1 out of the first seven rounds. This ultimately set the tone for the match as it was just a matter of time before the European team closed the map out.

Inferno

The initial rounds of Inferno were a tug of war with both teams winning three rounds each. Mousesports were ultimately punished for stepping out of line at Banana in Inferno. This gave Liquid a big advantage in that round which they capitalized on. They were then able to win most of the next few rounds mainly due to a crippling Mousesports economy. Once Liquid won the pistol round, it again became a situation of when rather than how. Liquid won the map with a score of 16-8 and it was a very easy map for the team.

Train

Train was the most important map for both the teams, as evidenced by Oskar in his post match interview. The map is considered to be strong for both the teams and ultimately only one team could take the advantage in the series. Mousesports did not have a strong T side and indeed the match was evenly poised at half time with a 9-6 scoreline. However, the pistol round on CT side for Mousesports set the tone for the rest of the half. They did not allow Liquid to gain any footing on the T side of Train. Oskar was definitely the MVP of the first round as he got three quick headshots to win the round almost singlehandedly. The remaining rounds in that half followed a similar pattern with Mousesports dominating the CT half and winning the map 16-9. Liquid were unable to win a single T side round despite their best efforts. This was a T side that Liquid definitely wanted to forget as they prepared for the next map.

Mirage

Mirage could not have seen a better start for Liquid, they won eight round straight to have a 8-0 scoreline. The NA roster was definitely looking strong and unstoppable on their T side. Their aggression meant that Mousesports were simply unable to build up an economy to help them in their defense. However they did manage to somehow claw back 6 rounds to end the first half with a respectable 11-4 scoreline. Mouz are an experienced roster and they did not want to give up the map easily. They staged a comeback fuelled by six consecutive rounds on the T start. However Liquid’s huge lead was insurmountable as Mouz found themselves wanting more space to build their comeback on. Liquid provided them no space at all and won the match with ease.

Nuke

Ropz has lived upto all the hype surrounding the young player

The final map was Nuke, a map which Mousesports have been pretty strong on. Their dominance exerted itself in a 9-0 scoreline on the CT side. While Nuke is generally considered a CT side map, such a huge lead is simply too steep for anyone to climb. Liquid barely managed 4 rounds before the first half was over. Once Mouz won the pistol in the second half, it was but only a matter of time before they would lift the silverware. This map saw several members from Mousesports step up in a big way for the team. The Mousesports roster looked menacing to say the least as they decimated Liquid.

The team won the first place and deservedly so after having closely defeated several of the top teams at the tournament. Their losses also include a 15-19 loss to SK which is one of the best teams in the world, despite their current loss of form. This team is destined for more success especially on the back of Oskar, Ropz and Chrisj. Each of these players is a star in his own right and can carry the team to victory.

Final thoughts

The ESG Mykonos was a tournament that was supposed to be a fun event with the teams enjoying themselves in teh picturesque islands of Mykonos. The players did have a fun time and there were no complaints on that end, however certain teams were definitely out there to prove something. Be it to their fans or themelves a lot was riding on the shoulders of SK Gaming and VIrtus Pro. Both the teams eventually faltered, but moving in different directions. The actual skill gap between the teams such as Mousesports, SK, VP and Liquid has definitely narrowe. This tournament serves as a precursor to the upcoming season of NA touranments which will see several of these teams participate.

For now, Mousesports are undoubtedly your ESG Mykonos Champions for 2017.

The ESG Mykonos is the first of many in the upcoming season of CS GO tournaments. The tournament will see several prominent teams in contention for the € 200,000 EUR prize pool.

The tournament will see the eight teams divided into two groups of four each. The initial matches of the groups will be Best of One matches, however, the elimination matches later in the Group stage will be Best of Three. This is a slight departure from the just concluded Dreamhack Malmo 2017 format. Dreamhack Malmo also employed a GSL format which saw the winners matches being Best of Three instead of the losers match being Best of Three.

With the community severely criticising several of the past tournament formats including the Swiss format which has been used in both the CSGO majors in 2017, this is a throwback to the old system. This tournament sees a mixture of some of the better-ranked teams along with many top T2 teams. It will definitely be an interesting tournament to watch to see if the supposedly top ranked teams can hold their ground. We take a brief look into the two Groups at this tournament.

Group A

Group A is definitely the stronger group out of the two. The four teams in Group A are SK Gaming, Gambit, Mousesports and Heroic. With SK & Gambit consistently being amongst the top 5 teams in the past few months, it is going to take a Herculean effort by Heroic and Mousesports to upset these teams. The double elimination format provides a decent buffer zone for the top two teams.

Gambit : Can they stay on top?

Gambit are the current World Champions having won the PGL Krakow Major. The CIS team, however, underwent roster changes following the Major win at Krakow. Due to internal problems, Kane and Zeus left the Gambit CS GO roster. This came as a major strategic blow to Gambit as Zeus ( along with Kane) were instrumental in the team’s performance at the Major. The tactical acumen of Zeus along with the firepower amongst the existing members of the team proved to be a well-oiled combination.

The new Gambit roster

Gambit have proven themselves to be a strong contender despite this setback. Their performance in the online matches as well as at Dreamhack Malmo has shown that their firepower still remains superior to that of most teams. The addition of Fitch who has been given a blank slate to just aim and kill enemies has been a boost for the team. With their strategies not seeming inferior to any, the Gambit roster looks extremely strong as of right now. One thing that I have to mention is the performance of Mou. He has been extremely consistent with his AWP and can hold his ground against the top T1 teams.

Can SK finally win a tournament?

Fallen will be seeking revenge following DH Malmo

SK Gaming is the other top team in Group A along with Gambit Gaming. The World Number 1 team, however, has failed to get into a top two finish in their last few tournaments. They have been ousted in the quarterfinals in both the tournaments definitely a let down considering the high expectations from the Brazilian roster. While their disappointing result at the Major might have been a one-off; they had a similar result at Dreamhack Malmo 2017. Dreamhack Malmo 2017 saw the Brazilian team on the verge of a semi final victory. But they were unable to close it out and let out a big match point lead to ultimately lose the map. They also lost the second map which saw them being eliminated from the tournament.

SK Gaming has one of the most talented rosters in this tournament. However, they have suffered from team play issues in the past. Their coordination definitely suffers and once you go past their individual brilliance, the team is exposed for the lack of gameplay as a team. They do have their strong maps, but they have suffered losses on these maps including Train which was a pretty bad win rate for the Brazilian roster. Coming into this tournament, they might be on the lookout for revenge. After all their defeat during Dreamhack Malmo was one of the least expected after they reached match point.

Dreamhack Malmo 2017 saw the Brazilian team on the verge of a semi final victory. But they were unable to close it out and let a big lead from match point slip to ultimately lose the map. SK Gaming have one of the most talented rosters in this tournament. However, their coordination definitely suffers from lack of practice .They are strong on almost all maps, but they have suffered losses on their strongest maps including Train which has seen a pretty bad win rate for the Brazilian roster in their last few matches.

The Challengers

Group A does feature two more teams who are ( on paper ) the underdogs in this Group. Heroic and Mousesports show some signs of brilliance, but their lack of consistency has repeatedly cost them decent results. On paper, these two teams should not be able to make it out of the Group stage, but they have the potential to cause an upset or two.

Heroic is a team which statistically on paper has had very poor results. However, we have to remember that Heroic suffered some really close losses to the top teams in some of these matches. Heroic´s performance has been improving since they picked up e3tag, but albeit at a very slow pace. The team did finish second during Dreamhack Atlanta when they lost to EnVyUs. Heroic´s first match in this tournament is off against Gambit Gaming. Overall the team does not look strong enough to be able to make it to the playoffs, they have not been as bad as their results look.

Mousesports

Oskar is core to all of Mousesports plays

Mousesports are the final team in Group A at ESG Tour Mykonos. The German roster has a lot of potential but not any credible results so far. The European team relies heavily on Oskar and ChrisJ to be the star performers in any given match. If these two players are unable to have a Godlike performance the team falters and it mostly results in a loss. They lack the confidence against prominent teams and it shows in their indecision after getting the opening kills. This team has the potential to cause an upset, but it is highly unlikely against their first opponents – SK Gaming. However, against Gambit Gaming, they have a somewhat decent chance. It depends heavily on the map and if they can pull off an upset against Gambit, they should not be able to go too far in the playoffs.

Group B

Group B is definitely much closer than Group A.Virtus Pro definitely have the highest skill ceiling and are one of the most loved teams in all of Counter Strike. The Poles, however, have a history of being extremely unreliable in their results and have been known to lose to much weaker teams in the past.

Virtus Pro : The loved, the inconsistent and the favorites

Virtus Pro as a team is most well known for their roster stability. The players have already signed long term contracts with the organization which ensures a steady job for the team over several years. Being one of the most well-received players in Counter Strike, the team has a lot of fans. However, they have not always been able to maintain their good form. The players have shuffled roles multiple times within the team in an effort to improve their results. We have had several players taking up the mantle of the In Game Leader. Their performance in the last two tournaments are definitely poor. Their loss to Renegades definitely hurts them a lot and they will look to avenge that loss in this tournament. With names such as Taz, Snax and Byali the Polish roster is definitely a contender for the semifinal slot in this tournament. While Virtus Pro as a team is the best team in the Group B, there will be no surprise if they fail to come out on Top of the Group stage.

Team Liquid

Liquid have picked up their form in the past month. Their dominance against the North American teams is however with a grain of salt, with their losses to the stronger teams. They have also not qualified for any major tournament in the upcoming few weeks and this puts them at a disadvantage. Liquid face-off against BIG gaming who are known to be selectively good depending on the map. Liquid and BIG gaming have an equally good chance to come out of the groups. It depends heavily on the map chosen and the elimination match-up for these teams. If Virtus Pro were unlucky to lose their initial match-up against EnVyUs ( highly improbably but we have seen worse); then we can have these teams having to face off against VP.

EnVyUs : Unknown

Can EnVyUs make an impact?

EnVyUs have not had any good results either. Their performance has been lacklustre and even on their best maps such as Cobblestone, the French roster has been unable to make a close match against G2. This team lacks firepower which is often the case with the lesser out of the two French teams. EnVyUs need better aimers than just Scream and RPK. While the remaining players intermittently pick up their performance over the course of several matches, consistency is not a virtue that they have been exhibiting so far. EnVyUs is one of the weakest teams in the tournament and I do not expect them to go into the playoffs.

I expect Virtus Pro and Liquid to make it out of the Group stage. While Virtus Pro is the obvious choice mainly cause of their skill ceiling and them being the fan favorites by a long margin, we might see a big upset on the cards. This Group is not as tight knit as Group A, especially since it’s also probable that Virtus Pro might crash out in the Group Stage itself.

The first day of the tournament will provide a rough outlook on the various team´s performance. Group A consists of very strong teams in SK and Gambit who have repeatedly proven their worth against the best teams in the world. Group B on the other hand is an equal group with three out of the four teams being contenders for the playoffs berth.

The PGL Krakow Major is the next major in the CS GO Calendar. The Major will start on July 16th and continue through till July 23rd. A total of sixteen teams will be playing for the prize pool of $1,000,000. While there are several teams who have the potential to do well at the tournament, we will put a spotlight on a few teams in this article

SK Gaming

Currently Ranked #1

SK Gaming are one of the top teams in CS GO. Their dominance in 2016 saw them win multiple majors and dominate their opponents in the online matches. However as with any other team, their form has been through bad days. Fallen, the hard taskmaster & the leader for SK however, isn’t afraid to take the tough decisions to change up the roster.

SK Gaming have seen changes in their roster whenever a player underperforms. And almost always a roster change leads to a resurgence in their form and most likely a tournament or a major victory. This time around, SK are still evolving. Although they are ranked #3 in the world, they might have some trouble playing against some of the teams in this tournament. One more thing to remember is that SK are one of the most strategic teams in the tournament, as such other teams will be studying their playstyle.

SK Gaming always seem to come back into the top 3. SK Gaming came up with a splendid performance to win Cologne 2017. . One can say that ESL One Cologne offered them a very easy route to the finals, but the team’s co-ordination and their strategies were definitely on point.Even so, Fallen did mentioned about burnout in an interview at the end of ESL One Cologne. That can be a defining factor in their matches at the Major.

SK’s chances at PGL Krakow

SK Gaming have been stepping up in a big way recently. Their win at ESL One Cologne 2017, should be a precursor to their performance at PGL Krakow. SK Gaming will be able to reach the semifinals of the Major.

Cloud9

Cloud9, as a team have been very unpredictable in their results. The roster depends heavily on the plays by Autimatic and Stewie2k, two of the best players in NA. Stewie2k is also their IGL and despite being so young a player, he has done a fantastic job of engaging their opponents. However CS GO is a team game. Congratulations if you have five amazing individual players , however a strong strategic team will always win out against you.

The X factor for Cloud9 has to be Shroud. Shroud is a very talented player, but consistency is one of his biggest problems. ESL One Cologne saw Shroud performing very well and that definitely played an important role in Cloud9’s run to the finals. If Cloud9 are expected to do well at the Major, they will have to rely on Shroud to turn up in a big way.

Valens is the Coach for Cloud9 and is probably one of the most important members for Cloud9. He puts in a lot of hours in strategizing and understanding their performance against the opponents. We saw his input at ESL One Cologne and how Cloud9’s performance was visibly much improved that their previous matches.

Cloud9 chances at the Major

I think Cloud9 should be able to reach the playoffs. The quarterfinals are the minimum stage for them to make their impact felt at the Major. If they can advance ahead or not, is something that depends heavily on their match-ups.

Astralis

The former Major Champions will look to hold their title

The current Major Champions are definitely the favorites for this Major. Astralis is a team known for their CT holds & extremely coordinated defenses. However they have also been improving their Terrorist side markedly especially on maps such as Overpass, Cobblestone etc. . Overpass and Cobblestone are by far the best maps for Astralis. They tend to be mediocre on Inferno and Cache. They are pretty good on the remaining maps as well.

Astralis have taken a break in the past few weeks from competitive LAN play. They skipped ESL One Cologne with the hopes of preparing for the upcoming Major. Their bootcamp and practice sessions days before the major will definitely put an edge in their performance. No one knows their strats, and we might very well see a few surprises at the Major.

The Danish roster has implemented several steps which will improve the mental health and gameplay for the team. They have availed of the services of Mia Stellberg, a sports psychologist. She has helped them overcome their self doubts and get into the right mindset before a game.Astralis used to be a team which was bogged down by self doubt and would take their losses heavily to the heart. This used to affect their gameplay severely and they would lose match after match to the same team. Initially it was NIP who would always win matches against Astralis, and then it was the “Choknitas” tag ( Astralis used to choke whenever they reached Round 14 in a match and lose).

Astralis Chances at the Major

Astralis should be able to go through the playoffs easily. They are easily amongst the top 3 teams and we expect them to reach the semifinals in the worst case.

Virtus Pro

VP are having lots of troubles with bad results

Virtus Pro is a team with a huge fan following. The team has some amazing personalities in Pasha and Taz. Pasha is extremely popular with the Virtus Pro fans & CS GO fans in general. Taz has been around in the industry for such a long time and he is considered to be a father figure to many in CS GO

Virtus Pro’s play style is extremely interesting. They always seem to go around the meta and play their own style of CS GO. Of Course it does not always work out the way they intend to, but it provides for some really exciting game for the fans and for Virtus Pro Players themselves. They are not afraid to try out new things in their matches, things that will surprise their opponents. These surprises coupled with the innate talent in each individual means that they can always win a match no matter what form they are in.

Speaking of current form, Virtus Pro definitely have been out of form lately. Their performance has seen a huge dip and they lost almost 10 places in the HLTV rankings within a few months. They have lost several matches including group stage exits in three of their last LAN outings. They have been relegated in ESL Pro League and are in a similar situation for ECS. This team is known to bounce back and perform well at the Majors. If they do or not, it’s a difficult guess for anyone.

Virtus Pro Chances at the Major

Virtus Pro should be able to get out of the Group stage. Beyond that, I really doubt they will be able to make any progress. They are having internal problems within the team, with Pasha even going on to say they might disband after the Major.

Faze Clan

Niko is the X factor for Faze Clan

Faze Clan are a team of superstars packed into one. With players such as Allu, Karrigan, Kioshima and Niko in one team they are probably the most skilled team in the tournament right now. Niko’s addition to the team has ensured that the team has the necessary firepower in order to help the team.

Faze have had top four finishes in their last four tournaments. The team is definitely considered to be one of the best team and their results prove the same. All four matches were lost to either SK or Astralis.

The biggest problem for Faze is their map pool. While they have been proving their skill and aim in their matches, there isn’t a map which is considered to be strong for the team. It is widely the skill difference that helps Faze secure the win. Allu has been exceptional with his AWP play in their matches. With Niko and Allu on form, Faze can definitely be one of the teams that can win the PGL Krakow Major.

Faze Chances at the Major

Faze are one of the favorites coming into the tournament. The performance of the team has been spectacular over the past few months. With a very skilled lineup, I think Faze has a good chance of reaching the finals.

Virtus Pro have the longest standing roster in CS GO history. The current roster has been together since 2014. The Polish team has seen several ups and downs during their time together, but it seems the current slump is a slope which they cannot survive.

Pasha fears for the Team Unity

Virtus Pro have had poor results recently. From being relegated in the ESL Pro League to not making it to the playoffs of most of their recent tournaments, Virtus Pro are a shadow of their former selves.

“Third event with no results, I have never had such a bad period in my eight-year career, it was not long ago that we lost the Major grand final,

“What to do to not go crazy? What to do to get back in shape? It is hard already, and it is going to get even harder.

“If we survive this and do not split up it will be another miracle.”

Their rankings have been slipping like sand. On April 10 of 2017, they were ranked 3rd in the HLTV rankings. The team was a constant threat to the top teams in the world. Other teams used to strategize to defeat Virtus Pro. The following image clearly depicts how they have been falling through the ranks and are not a team which can compete at the highest level right now.

There are a variety of reasons for this poor performance but no one can explain it to a certainty. The team has been known to be one of the most resilient teams in CS GO history. They famously have never believed that roster changes will change the

Virtus Pro results

Virtus Pro have been in the bottom half of results in their last few tournaments. A glance at their performance in the last few months would be proof enough to see why the team is disheartened over their results

IEM Katowice 2017 – 7th to 8th finish

Starladder I League Season 3 – 12th to 14th finish

ESL One Cologne 2017 – Out in the Group stage

In addition to these LAN tournaments, they have also been relegated out of the ESL Pro League and have a high chance of being unable to continue in ECS.

The results for Virtus Pro have been going downhill. Now for any other normal team, you would see the results / rank graph hovering up and down a particular number. But Virtus Pro have had a straight downward slope towards Rank 11.

Hot and Cold

Virtus Pro have been together since 2014.Throughout their time together, The Poles have seen many ups and downs in their highlighted careers. It was not long ago that Virtus Pro were famous by the names of Virtus Throw ( you can say they still are ). The Polish team, despite having some celebrated names in their midst was infamous for losing to lesser known teams.

They did have the occasional win against a Fnatic or a SK Gaming, however these spurts of brilliance were few and far between. The hot and cold nature of Virtus Pro, gave them two different names amongst their fans.

Virtus Plow was the name assigned to them when they were the formidable self defeating their opponents and ploughing through them in an unassailable manner. However the instances when the team faltered they were called Virtus Throw.

The last major saw Virtus Pro almost winning the finals against Astralis. They did lose out in the finals, but they were the fan favorites by far.

Will Virtus Pro Disband?

The current roster has contracts with the Virtus Pro organisation till 2020. The contracts were signed on the demand of the Polish players. They believe that roster stability is extremely important for the benefit of the players.

Over the years Virtus Pro have seen many downs ( albeit not as low as this one). But they have always stuck together as a team. The entire team believes in each other and have almost never been spotted bad mouthing each other. The players support each other and are an inspiration to the others within the community.

This season, however, is a different story. The team has virtually crashed out of all the big tournaments. They have had dismal online results and group stage exits in the LAN events that they have attended. That being said, they will be attending the CS GO Major with the same lineup. I think a lot depends on their performance and the way they feel at the Major. The Polish players have never taken decisions on their match results. As long as the players feel good with each other, they believe in themselves and always try to improve.

We do hope that the team is able to come around. Virtus Pro provides a very exciting and aggressive style of gameplay that is not seen in many teams to the efficiency of Virtus Pro.

This is one of the most interesting ultimates in the games. When Doomfist uses this ability, he will rise up into the air. He can then choose where he will land on the ground, dealing considerable amount of damage. This ability provides a lot of time for Doomfist to be able to select the target zone.

His ultimate seems extremely overpowered for now, not only cause of the damage done, but also due to the amount of time a player can wait before actually using the ultimate.

The Passive : The Best Defense

Doomfist is a hero which requires it to dive into the opponents. He will be behind the enemy lines and as such his survivability is a big question. In order to balance the hero out, Doomfist has a passive ability called The Best Defense. This ability grants Doomfist temporary shields when his abilities deal damage. If Doomfist jumps in and manages to use multiple skills dealing damage, he gains lots of shields. They contribute immensely to his survivability.

These shields are only temporary. They will help Doomfist as long as he continues to deal damage.

Developer Update

Our dearest Jeff Kaplan has always greeted the community with any news from the Developers. This has to be a proud moment for him as Doomfist is one of the most anticipated heroes not only by the fans, but also by the developers. Doomfist is integral to the continuity of the Overwatch Lore. He is one of the co-leaders of the Talon leadership.

Overwatch lore

Doomfist is one of the members on the council of the Talon Leadership. He was one of the bad guys, who were in direct contention with the Overwatch team.

Adeyemi was a useful asset to Talon, but the organization saw far greater potential in Ogundimu, with his intelligence and his ability to inspire as a commander. While Adeyemi was content to profit from raids on Numbani, Ogundimu had a grander vision. This difference in aspiration would lead Ogundimu to kill his teacher and take on the mantle of Doomfist, along with the eponymous gauntlet.

Thoughts

The hero presents a unique set of skills that are not currently in Overwatch. He is extremely strong dive DPS. He can go up in the air and deal with Pharah, which can definitely deal with the Pharah Mercy meta in a big way. Most of the initiators in Overwatch heavily depend on their healers. Doomfist is a hero who does not depend on his healers as much as other heroes. His passive provides him with shields which definitely make him a very tanky hero, as long as he is able to deal damage.

I think Doomfist will see considerable amount of play once he goes live. His ultimate however is something that might be nerfed in the upcoming patches, simply cause it seems extremely powerful. The hero is live in PTR right now and going by past estimates, he should be live within 2 weeks.

Let us know what you think about the hero in the comments below.

Doomfist is a character that has been in the Overwatch lore since the beginning. The looming presence of Doomfist however has always kept a suspense going on in the Overwatch Lore.

A recent update to the Overwatch Blog mentions Doomfist as the main reason for the attack on Helix Security International by the Talons.

It began in the early hours of the morning, when an unidentified aircraft approached the facility. Security initially reported that the craft had no passengers on board, based on radar scans. The craft passed through the range of the installation’s defense systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix. Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds. The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead. Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.

Helix officials have been unwilling to reveal whether or not there were additional escapees or items taken from the facility, but sources have indicated that it is likely that there were further security breaches in addition to Ogundimu.
After escaping from the facility, Helix lost track of Ogundimu until he resurfaced in Numbani, where he clashed with the newly introduced OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal, easily destroying them and reclaiming the Doomfist.

It seems this event takes place after the events of Efi and Orisa. Akande Ogundimu, commonly known as the doomfist has been in contact with the Talons. This fantasy world is a new step that has been taken by Blizzard. The original lores for Overwatch mainly focussed on the past years, years when Overwatch was in it’s prime.

The Numbani Airport was smashed by Doomfist ( prior to the release of Orisa)

However most of the recent events have been relatively newer stories with younger and newer heroes in the spotlight. A few weeks ago, during the release of Orisa, Numbani airport ( the spawn of the attacking team ) had seen some changes. These changes stayed on despite the hero being released and after the conclusion of the event. This had led to some confusion as to whether the change would be permanent at the spawn. The changes definitely lowered the visual appeal of the spawn.

A new hero is good for the meta

Jeff Kaplan has already stated that Blizzard plans to release only around 3 heroes per year. This will keep the game fresh, without diluting the excitement of having a new hero released within the game.

The current meta in Overwatch has become exceedingly static. While it might not be as boring as the previous three tank meta, it is a meta where we don’t see much variation from the standard 6-8 heroes.

There has a be at least 1 hero released soon so that the Meta can change thanks to him, or alter the patch on existing characters so that there is a counter comp. Right now it’s just Dive, Dive, Dive. Nothing else. There is no change, no diversity. This meta is so confusing to cast, and so hard to watch. The worst meta I have ever seen, and I’m sick of it. I mean, it’s not surprising that we see one-sided games recently at APEX and foreign tourneys because as long as you are better at dive, you will be better than the opposing team no matter what map you pick. Even the APEX finals can be 4:0 depending on which teams plan a better dive.

Recently an interview with YongBongTang mentioned that Korean fan-base were getting exceedingly disheartened with the game due to the static meta. The players want the game to evolve and get more exciting, both the play and to watch.

What is known about Doomfist?

The First Overwatch cinematic trailer has teased Doomfist. While it has never been the principal focus of any cinematic trailer except the first one, it has been an enigma in the Overwatch world.

The cinematic Trailer lists the Doomfist as an item instead of a hero. The person who wields the doomfist has immense strength. The gauntlet is widely considered to be the primary weapon for any character wearing the doomfist. It suggests that Doomfist might be a melee character.

There have been three people who have wielded the Doomfist gauntlet through time.

Numbani mentions the three Doomfist Characters

“The Savior” – Adhabu Ngumi (Adhabu Ngumi translates to DoomFist in Swahili)
“The Scourge” – Akinjide Adeyemi
“The Successor” – Akande Ogundimu is the name of the current holder of the Doomfist. He escaped from the Helix facility and is the reason behind all the destruction at the Numbani airport recently.

This blog post by Overwatch gives a good summary of the state of affairs as they currently stand in the Overwatch universe. Judging by the past hero releases by Blizzard, there will be more hints and teases in the upcoming days before we finally get our hands on a new character in Overwatch.
