I spent most of Labor Day laboring over the new website. I'm in love with it! I can't wait to reveal it. Hopefully next month in time for my husband's and my anniversary - which is also 2 years since the first BDD cake topper was done!

Very happy to share with everyone a Real Bride post from a very talented bride {and groom} that had a custom cake topper created for them earlier this summer. Richelle shared the link to her photographer's website - Where Heaven Meets Earth - with the post and also slideshow from their wedding. Richelle and Josh had a fuchsia and black wedding and I do love the photo with their bridal party in an empty pool!

Please feel free to visit Where Heaven Meets Earth Photography blog for more photos!

So you see that last photo, the one where there's a girl, who looks just like the bride, being spun in the air? I emailed Richelle to ask if they had done a choreographed first dance. She told me that her husband and her are dancers and partners and shared the link to their YouTube video of the first dance. It reminded me of SYTYCD, but the wedding version. It's beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing Richelle & Josh.

Custom Sign - Ms Thompson

My best friend - whom I've made a sign for before, wanted to order one for her grad school friends, Christy, to help celebrate & decorate the office of her new job. Free? Really? as in NOTHING to pay? Yup. You see, the CEO of Zappos {Tony Hsieh} loved his new book so much, and wanted everyone to read it, that he was offering it on his site for free. Also, if you were a blogger, you could have gotten it early (for free) and written a review on it and I think they posted it somewhere. I can't remember.

Regardless, I went online and ordered it. Once the book was released (which took a few weeks) then I got it in the mail. FABULOUS! I didn't read it though. I've been working on reading all the Harry Potter books since last year. They're long! But, the other day I decided to crack open the book, Delivering Happiness.

Wow. Why did I WAIT so long??? Jen had told me it was awesome and couldn't believe I hadn't opened it. I see why. He writes it in his own voice, and he's hilarious. I love how he talks about all his business ventures, the culture he built for himself through high school, college, and beyond.

In reading the stories about his college days, I can relate. Recently my friend's hubby turned 30 and we had a party and there happened to be a lot of folks that came from the first college we went to (away, up north) and so we had a lot of good conversation and some reminiscing of old times. It's true, having that sort of life away in school, the culture you build for yourself, it's so much fun! I can see why Tony would want to create that in his own "work" environment. I use the fabulous air quotes because it's not just work to him. It's so much beyond that.

I finished reading it the other night and I loved it so much! In the book they discuss, over the years, how they started a tradition by asking each employee to write a few things about what they felt the Zappos Culture was. At first it was something small - and they gave it to all the employees. But it's grown year after year and now includes info from vendors! It's their Culture Book! The book is compiled of short stories, paragraphs, sentences, written by employees and customers of Zappos to say why their culture is so special. The only edits made are typos and everything else is straight from the employees' mouth. or fingers if they're typing. I received it the other day and it's like a Zappos yearbook. There's tons of photos plus the commentary by those that have worked there as well as other companies they work with. This was their 10 year edition - 2009.

Different Shades of Crystal

Whenever I get a new order, I always am excited to see what color combo the bride and groom are doing with their wedding. I browse a lot of wedding blogs each day {for research! Ok, maybe to satisfy my obsession!} and there's some color combos that I would LOVE to do a topper for. So when I get contacted for something new and different, I get so giddy!

Justine was the winner of the cake topper give away from the Moorpark Bridal Show and also another 10-10-10 bride! After careful consideration, Justine chose the Julia font in the Montana {navy} color. It's a great dark and bold color and can't wait to see some photos from her wedding day!

Next up is another order from a wedding planner in Louisiana. The bride wanted to have something different than the Clear Crystal, but not as bold as gold. So we went with the Silk color by Swarovski. It's so elegant and great for a middle ground between the Crystal and the Light Colorado Topaz!

{look at that sparkle! It's so pretty I love it!!}

I can't wait to work on some more color combos for brides! I love trying new colors!

Real Bride - Shannon

Shannon recently shared a little secret with me - her photographer, Jessica Lewis {Santa Barbara, CA},  had posted some of the AMAZING photos from her wedding in May. Everyone needs to have a break from reality and this is how I did it this past weekend {from my personal blog}

Saturday I went on the most absolutely girlie day you could possibly have with my friend Jen. And, the best part, was while we were out, our husbands were having the manliest day with a 10 hour marathon of the Band of Brothers - the Pacific. Yes. 10 hours. All in one day. Wow.

So, for our girl's day, we went to Sephora. I needed some new concealer. Holy crap that place is intimidating!! We spent the first few bits wandering around trying to get the eye of a sales girl (with good makeup on - believe me, there was some scariness there). Finally we found this cute red head and I explained what I was looking for. She immediately led me to this, and I fell in love.

It has tea tree oil in it, which apparently Australia has used for years as an antiseptic.  So, while it covers up the hideous zits I've been growing, it'll also help to lessen the bacteria and hopefully make them go away. Yay!  {click the pic to go to the Sephora page}

I also wanted to get some sort of liquid foundation to use when going out somewhere. I use Physician's Formula loose powder but it doesn't give THAT much coverage {unless I put on like 3 coats} and won't last the whole time. So, again, she was awesome and recommended this

This is great because you can use it as a spot concealer too. And it's not heavy. I love it!  {click the pic to go to the Sephora page}

I bought something else but I'm not in love with it because I can't get it to work! It's supposed to be a travel brush that you fill the base with your loose powder. And it locks and stuff. Well, I spent about 20 minutes trying to get the powder to come out to no avail. I'm going to probably return it. Unless mine's just a dud. Cuz it's awesome that it's portable and refillable!

Oh, and I also bought this.

It's tiny but can be used as a shadow or a blush. Jen said it reminded her of the Nars Orgasm blush.  {click the pic to go to the Sephora page}

Then, we made our way to Victoria's secret. I had a coupon for a free panty and it's been years since I've taken advantage of that.  They also had {in the promo pamphlet} an ad for the PINK $19.50 bras in bold colors.  So, I bought 2. I love them. I hate buying bras from there because of the price tag. But I figured $20 isn't bad {and that same free panty card had $10 off the purchase. Not bad!}

From there, we went to get pedicures. I found this place online months ago, after another excursion with some girlfriends, but just never made it to go there.

The Painted Nail.  It's on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks.  The place is so damn cute.  We got this amazing color on our toes and I cannot recall the name.  It's by Nubar and it's this bright purple glitter - but matte. I love it. I need to call to get the name! {click the pic to go to their page - photo from their website}

After that, we went to Sushi Dan's for dinner, then back home to All Corked Up for some live music, and a good bottle of pinot noir. And what night isn't complete without some froyo! I had a blast and it was definitely good to have such a distraction and happy time from everything that's been going on lately. I loved every minute of it. And our guys did too. We came home and they were just about to start hour 10 so her and I tried our best to stay awake. We were so exhausted!

Jen thank you again! I had so much fun!!! We need to get all the girl's to the Painted Nail stat!

{also, there's a new twitter-only advertised sale....follow me at @blingdivadesign to hear things first!}

Real Birthday - Talisha

Good morning! Happy friday folks! I've still been MIA on the blogger & twitter front, but that's changing soon! If you don't follow me already on Twitter, please do - @blingdivadesign. I'm going to be posting something fun on Monday and you'll be the first to read it there. Of course, I'll also post the information on the blog, but will hold the suspense on here for a few days. If you want to be the first to know, follow me on Twitter!

Previously I posted some photos for a cake topper that will be used twice for 2 special ladies. The first up was the birthday celebration of Talisha (who often times goes by her middle name, that starts with the M). She was having a fun girl's night out to celebrate and wanted to add a bit of diva to it with the bling.

Talisha I hope you had an amazing time with your girlfriends! Can't wait to see how you use the M again for your daughter's birthday cake!

Real Bride - Jen {part 2}

You might remember Jennifer's beautiful wedding that I had posted previously. Never has it rang true in the past week for me. Last week, I came home and my husband told me to sit down. He told me my cousin's husband (who, let's face it, is my cousin too) had passed away unexpectedly. She came home from work and found him, called 911 and was told there was nothing they could do. I was heartbroken. For her, our family, their puppy. I rushed down there Friday (they live about an hour south) to be with her because it's what you do for family.

Our entire family met up so often that weekend at their condo. Jim would laugh to say "hey, THIS is what it takes to get everyone to come to US?" - he was always complaining about having to come up north to visit us for every event. But, when there's a crisis, you drop everything, and go to those you love.

Jim, you've been in my life for the past 16 years. You let me drive your car {and, might I add, not so great. almost took out a bush and a garage} when I didn't have my permit yet. You had the largest collection of music I've ever seen anyone have. You loved your wife more than anyone could have in the entire world. You went to school, determined to better yourself, when some would say it's too late to start that chapter. You looked out for my sister and me as if we were your younger siblings. While we can't imagine what life will be like without you, we can always rely on our memories from all the past birthdays, holidays, any type of get together. Tina was one of those brides. She saw my site and loved the bling and wanted some for her own wedding. She saw the champagne flutes I had done before with letters and crystals on the base. She wanted both, and wanted them in certain colors to match his and her style. Of course I loved the idea. She picked the Avery font for the C initial, and wanted fuchsia and black for the flutes.

Tina - good luck to you and your future husband! I've got a few more that I'm currently working on, but I realized it's been quite a bit since I have done some postings on orders! Well, time to change that. I'll be skipping this week's Mock-up Monday to help play catch up!

Recently I was asked to help assist create a custom cake topper to adorn a custom cake from A Sweet Design in Granada Hills, CA. Working with Joeleen and Alison was so easy. I'm waiting on pics from 2 custom cakes I worked with them on. For now, the cake topper!

Nitasha just graduated college and her mom and aunt wanted to order a cake to tie in her school and love of butterflies. I designed a butterfly that was attached to her initial and it's gorgeous! The colors used coincide with her school colors.

Beautiful isn't it? As a gift to her daughter, Monique, her mom ordered her a custom name plaque in fuchsia and orange to match the bedroom decor.

Last up is one more cake topper, not custom, but gorgeous none-the-less. And this week is fun and exciting since we end it with a 3 day holiday weekend - the 4th of July! Hmm. Might have to do a patriotic one next week ;o) Or might be too preoccupied with bbqs!

This week's Mock-up Monday is with an M in aqua shades - Blue Zircon, Crystal, and Aqua Bohemica. Ok maybe the Crystal isn't a shade of aqua. But it rounds out the other 2 colors nicely!

The font used is Molly. Last week was quite the busy week. I was out of town for work for a few days and then headed home to celebrate the 1 year old bdays for all my favorite babies! Will have some photos later on of the little ones in all their glory. They were all so adorable!

For this week's Mock-Up Monday, it is your choice if it's for a birthday or an anniversary! It is a crystal covered 25 in the Manhattan font. Super adorable!

Greetings...from the air

Have you ever been on a plane with wifi? It's amazing. I can't believe the technology we've got now-a-days. I remember our rotary phone growing up!

I am on my way to Boston. And I'm so excited that the Lakers killed the Celtics last night. It was an amazing game. It's amazing how much better you can be when ou're surrounded by thousands of your own fans. Reminds me of family...How when you're out on the road, living far from family, that when you come home for the holidays, a quick trip, or even if you're in the same town - it rejuvenates you.

So, if you're feeling a bit burnt out, unmotivated, or losing faith in yourself, go home, visit with family (and friends too!) and you'll get an instant lift. I guarantee it!!

Mock-Up Monday v17

Happy Monday folks! I hope you had a great weekend! It was another gorgeous, sun filled weekend. I was able to work on some orders, visit with my family, and rest up before this week & weekend. So excited for all the birthday parties this weekend!

For today's mock-up Monday, I wanted to do something fun for a letter. This features the Jaime font, which is available in the monogram for first name initials. And it is created using the Sapphire Crystal. I love getting to do something funky with cake toppers, and it usually is with birthdays. Which all of these toppers are for!

This first one is part 1 of an order for a birthday girl in July. Mom & Daughter share the same middle name initial, so they'll both get use out of this fantastic fuchsia M!

And next up is a follow up to the previous cake topper I wrote about for some babies that are celebrating 1 year of life in 2 weeks!

The blue (Capri) and green (Olivine) cake toppers are for two special nephews of mine.  They're twins. And so cute. Actually, you might have seen them - they play Ashton Kutcher & Katherine Heigl's son in Killers! {in theaters now. No this isn't a plug. They aren't getting residuals for their movie debut}

And here's one for all the babies!

Don't they look like little flags? I'm very excited for the parties coming up. It'll be a long day, but definitely worth it!

And don't forget, the contest ends tonight!! So if you haven't already, leave a comment with where you want to go in the world and you might be the lucky winner! I hope you had a restful weekend. Oh, and if you haven't yet, go enter the contest for some fabulous notecards! I'm not sure how your part of the world has been, but it was h-o-t here!

This week I'm back to doing the Mock-up Mondays after having taken a break for two weeks. This color combo is Tanzanite and Alexandrite. Both beautiful shades of purple that have been used many times before! And the font used was Avery, the same one used for Jen's bouquet charms!

#100 - The Giveaway!!!

Hitting 100 blog posts is quite a great accomplishment. If you've ever maintained a blog, you know at times it can be challenging coming up with material to write about. Lucky for me, having this business helps content flow. But I like it and want it to be so much more.

In celebration of post #100, I wanted to do a giveaway. I contacted my very talented friend Katrina with TCK Design Studio to have her create notecards that I could give away. I wanted them to be simple, yet chic. We came up with 4 different sayings to appear on 4 different cards. And of course they needed to have some bling! Each notecard has a coordinating crystal to add some sparkle. The paper used is the same I have for my thank you notecards. I love them! So I wanted her to use the same cardstock for the notecards and a matching shimmer euro-flap envelope. Enough words. Time for photos!

Details: 20 total notecards {5 of each design}
Size: A2

<strike></strike>
<strike>To enter, leave a comment and let me know if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? That's simple enough, yes? Plus maybe I will get an idea of some place to go on our next vacation :) The winner will be selected using random.org and entries can be accepted from now until Wednesday, June 9th at midnight (PST). Winner will be announced next Friday morning on the blog! If you didn't leave your email address when posting, just check back here to see if you won! Then you can email me directly so I can get your shipping address.</strike>

Thank you for entering. Contest is now closed.

And for an additional entry, follow me on twitter @blingdivadesign and RT this to your followers and paste the RT in an additional comment. Good luck to everyone!

Birthdays, Showers & Weddings!

This post covers it all! I have to apologize {again} for the lack of my Mock-up Monday yesterday. I knew it was a three day weekend {and I enjoyed all of it!} but today at work I realized it was Tuesday, meaning yesterday was Monday, and meaning I missed it. Oops.

So, to make up for it, I've flooded this post with a little bit of everything. A bridal shower topper, a birthday little diva topper, and a wedding cake topper!

First up is the Little Diva topper. I have 3 little ones turning 1 in the span of 4 days later this month. One is my baby sister, Nina, and the other two are my twin nephews! All are having a little diva topper (divo for the boys??) and I finished up Nina's first. It's using tanzanite crystals and it's so precious!

Next up is a bridal shower cake topper! Liz is the amazing talented designer of the lovely Something Blue Garters. She is helping host a bridal shower for her friend soon and wanted a heart cake topper after seeing the one from the Perspective post. The shower colors are bronze, olive green, and orange. We decided using the bronze and olive green colors together would be best!

Last up is a lot of bling on one topper. Darla contacted me for a crystal topper, with the sides covered. The letter is the ever popular Sophia and it's beautiful!! Her wedding is later on in the summer but she got an early start. Smart girl!

And this is my 99th post. On Friday, I'll be posting #100 - and my giveaway featuring products designed by TCK Design Studio!! Stay tuned!

Real Bride - Jen

Be warned - there are a lot of photos here. I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding this past weekend. But I served double duty. I was Melissa - the bridesmaid and Melissa - the crystal vendor :) Jen had a vision early on and we collaborated to take that vision into reality. She is a crystal lover. She has been surrounded by them for years as an employee for Tarina Tarantino. (she was there too. And yes, her hair is that bright in real life! So Awesome!) So of course her wedding needed to drip with crystals.

We created bouquet charms to be added to all the bridesmaid & mother's bouquets. Jen also had 2 for herself - JBG for her maiden name and JBW for her married. By the end of the night I became more of Melissa the bridesmaid so I forgot to actually take a pic with that charm. But no worries, her photographer Stephanie Williams will without a doubt be showing off so many of the details in the future (we're all so excited and can't wait!). So here's some photos and check the bottom of the post for many of the amazing vendors Jen and Chris had at their wedding! There was even a photobooth (backdrop designed & printed by Bling Diva Designs & photography by Emmy Cube Photography).

{Jen had all of these pretty purple wraps made for the bridesmaids too}

So, there you go.

This first topper is from one sister to another. Chrissy emailed and wanted to know if I could do a different variations for letters similar to the style of Love Topper. She wanted the X's in Crystal and the O's in Aqua. I'm in love with this.

Isn't this amazing? It's stunning. It measures just about 5"x5" and I can't wait to see photos after the wedding!

Next up is another custom item!! This is for Katarina. She had a certain font she used in her invitation suite, and she had to have her topper match. After getting the font, I told her it was something I could do and so we set to work!

The T has beautiful scrollwork incorporated at the top of the letter and it was covered in Crystal. I'm so excited that her vision of the topper came true!

Last but definitely not least is Tina's monogram. You might recognize the C&T from this Perspective post. She chose the Taylor font and the D was covered in 3 shades of turquoise - Aqua Bohemica, Aquamarine & Blue Zircon.

And lastly, I wanted to share with you my very first feature!!
