The 1.1 release features a color picker, for both foreground and background, and with the ability to toggle between light on dark and dark on light. The color palette was carefully chosen to preserve readability while allowing expression.

The interface has been streamlined. Just rotate to horizontal to trigger the animation and it’ll keep on going.

A rejection of the 1.1 version of iBlipper by Apple stalled efforts here, but we’re trying again and have posted a much enhanced version of iBlipper online. The update has been re-submitted after some productive community dialogue.

The new version of 1.1 version of iBlipper features:

  • COLOR! You can customize the foreground and background color.
  • Faster! Delays between words have been reduced and peformance optimized as well as vertical alignment tuned.
  • Gesture flick up to go faster, down to go slower

In the full version, shaking on the settings screen changes to a different configuration of speed, effect, and color. There are still a few kinks in the online version that’ll get smootehd out shortly. Stay tuned for, hopefully, an update to the full version and availability in the app store.

CountUp is intended to be a game suitable for anyone, and it passably succeeds. Square cards are stacked & scattered with numbers from 1-30, or higher. You’re then timed while touching the numbers in succession and removing the cards. It’s a mind engaging activity that suppresses the world around you , at least a few times.

My 2ish year old toddler got the idea but it took him a while to get use to the legend number placed in the center of the display. At 2.75 years, he’s got it. The visuals aren’t quite engaging enough to get him to stick through to 30, but he’s had fun with it upwards of 20.

So, it’s free, and while maybe not the most compelling app it’s a fun way to challenge a friend for a few minutes. If you’ve got a young one learning to count, then it’s likely a real winner!

You’ll likely be happy to know we’re adding the ability to tweak colors, although attempting to insure that only high contrast combinations are chosen so as not to jeopardize visibility.

Most ticker apps scroll text, Flash Banner is unique in presenting one letter at a time in vertical orientation. While highly visible at a distance, this approach doesn’t take advantage of the parallelism of the human brain. People don’t actually recognize “word shapes”, common letter pairs are identified at an almost shape like level and, more importantly, neighboring letters help speed the interpretation of their ‘hood.

Banner Free: FREE and the paid version Banner( $0.99) are stereotypical examples of the retro-LED device. Banner Delux brings cutesy animated background.

The list of scrolling ticker apps goes on… Scroll Me ($0.99),Scroll ($0.99), ScrollFX($0.99), Lux: ($0.99).

Shout Out $0.99 — one review claims it’s super fast. iBlipper can do many frames of animation within it’s shortest display duration, 150 milliseconds.

And yet more… Ticker ($0.99), and Marquee ($0.99), and LED it ($0.99) — and I probably missed a few.

Venturing further from the strict definition of the ticker, there’s Taxi Flasher which specializes in one type of message while aiming for high range visibility, like iBlipper.

Also interesting is RSS Stand which creates a news screensaver out of your docked iPhone and
POV Air Writing which creates a persistence of vision (POV) when you wave your iphone around in a very dark space.

It’s amazing how the iPhone is creating interesting use cases for a gadget in areas of life that were previously untouched! Stay tuned for iBlipper v1.1, it’s the next generation of the marque.
