Coastal Living Idea House Part 2

2012-01-21T22:12:00.000-05:00

Coastal Living Idea House Norfolk, VA. is chocked full of fantastic ideas for your home. As I mentioned in my previous Blog, I had the wonderful opportunity to tour the Idea House and decided to give you all a peek at what I got to see. Below is the Master Bedroom upstairs which was washed in soft dreamy blue-greens and accented with crisp white. An easy color pallet for any novice decorated.

What a super fun idea..to put a swing in your bedroom. Who said you can't. Go ahead, make your own rules. Being a grownup doesn't mean you have to be stuffy.

Mounds of pillows are always an easy decorative touch, but with function. Choose patterns and colors that compliment each other. This window nook is inviting and functional....a great place to curl up with a book. And, look at that blue ocean in the background.

Another angle of the built-in window seat, which also doubles as storage. It is easy to bring the outdoors in, by mimicking the colors and tones.

Having identical bedside tables and lamps balance out the room. However the accessories are different and the prints are made to look like vintage maps. This brings interest into the space and makes it look not so cookie-cutter.

Every room can use and upholostered piece and this chair and matching ottomon are an easy choice. The slipcovers remove for easy cleaning and the color evens out the grass-cloth wall covering since it is in the same tone.

This space is dreamy and inviting. Makes you want to redecorate your space. Enjoy.

Something New

2012-01-01T15:10:00.000-05:00

Hello Friends, and Happy New Year. I have been hanging on to some awesome pictures of my little trip this Fall to the Coastal Living Idea House in Norfolk, VA. What a great opportunity. Not only is is cocked full of ideas and design tips, it is beautiful to look at and your tour ticket money goes to charity. Everyone wins. So over the next few weeks, I will be sharing with you some of my pictures and ideas and then give you some tips on where to find look-alike items etc. Enjoy:

This is the outside look at a beauty in the crowd. It isn't that the neighborhood is crowded, but you would almost expect to see this beach house all on its own in the outer-banks or something. But, it isn't. And every inch of space is used, inside and out, making the most of its location. The young couple that bought this house have small children, so they will love the location and of course, proximity to the ocean.

Just a short stoll away and easy to see from all floors of the house.

It was a beautiful day when I was there, yet the clouds rolled in....Still beautiful, don't you think?

Ass soon as you walk in to the left of the front door, a cozy ready nook created out of the window seat. All you need is a cup of coffee and a great read. The designers used a classic motif--and sure to never fail--yellow and blue pallet, incorporating texture and depth where appropriate, made this house live very large. Most all the common spaced carried this theme and is an easy one to use if you ever get stuck.

Beautiful chairs graced the ends of the white-washed table for the dining room. These are great slip-covered pieces that can easily be laundered.

Here is a great piece you can use as the comfy chair at the head of the table. In fresh Grey Linen, sure to please. Click here to look a little closer.

What a great idea to use with Ores. I am going to research to see if this is a design or a mirror that can be purchased.

Also, a great idea for the ceiling......brings depth and warmth not to mention adding the beach element right into the home structure.

Here is a gorgeous alternative Light Fixture by Regina Andrews that would give any decor that extra zing for the beach atmosphere. And lastly, try the table below to give the comfortable warm beachy look to finish off your dining room.

Stay tuned for more inspirations for glamming up your home in a coastal charming sort-off way.

The Grand Canyon

2011-12-04T12:42:00.003-05:00

Quite an impressive hole in the ground to say the least. "Majestic, Mesmerizing, Vast and Simply Beautiful" These are words that I overhead a group of elementary kids saying when asked to describe The Grand Canyon while looking over the South Rim, on what was an obvious school field trip. Wow, we never got to do something like THAT when I was in school.

Inspired by the canyon colors is the Spicy Senorita Dress at $69.00 you can't beat it.

Inspired by the Native Indians of the Canyon. This Tribal Pattern Sweater is great to add to a dress and boots like above. But, equally eye-pleasing over leggings and a T. Not to mention comfy comfy.

Sometimes the Canyon has a thin layer of smoke and mist at sunset, from the campers and the controlled burns. It looks hazy and mystical and still very beautiful. Above is an equally beautiful shirt dress in smoke grey, inspired by the look of the Canyon. This dress can be glammed up or casual, whatever you feel like. The material has a sheen which makes your skin glow.

Oh and these shoes. How mod and in-style. These color-blocked shoes are inspired by the many Ravens that fly high above and through-out the canyon. Slick Black Ravens that have shades of grey and pewter. Native to the Canyon, these birds are also beautiful in their own way.

This beautiful and highly intrique piece is inspired by the beautiful hand-made Indian jewelry--also taking the colors of the canyon in to account. Check out this Sierra necklace and other items at http://www.simplyhomeltd.com/.

Amazing that the Colorado River did this, more than 3800 million years worth of work.

The Canyon can be mysterious and sultry also. Seeing the shadows and the ravens against the color of the Canyon is quite breathtaking. Contrasts of slience with hushes of beauty--this can inspire those days when you feel like keeping everything to yourself. However, the Grand Canyon is so surreal and unbelieveable, I had to share it with you.

A New Beginning

2011-08-18T17:25:00.002-04:00

How can you not be inspired by a stunning sunrise? Something so majestic and beautiful--an aweing wonder that makes life's small dissapointments seem so insignificant in comparison.

As hushed pinks and mulled purples push through the horizon, these soft dusty tones spread out across the sky like splayed fingers across the face of innocense.

A new dawn, a new beginning, A promise of comfort & peace--for now; for just this moment when everything is alright in the world--when everything is standing still. Drink it in. Hold this gift on the tip of your tongue, until you can taste the possibilities.

Only then swallow, so you too can write a part of this chapter in the story called life.

Beyond Beauty

2011-08-12T15:35:00.006-04:00

Just finished a photo shoot for our on-line boutique, SimplyHome. All of the pictures are so beautiful, and it is going to be toooo hard to pick only a few to feature on-line to showcase our fashion. These gals, the models (Katie & Zoe), are beyond beautiful to look at. They are respectful, polite, fun, charming and all around sweet-natured young ladies. Most behavior is learned, so kudos to their Mamas. But, the true caliber of an individual is what is on the inside.

“People often say that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder,' and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.” Salma Hayek

Summer Fun

2011-08-07T23:50:00.001-04:00

Nothing is better on a hot summer evening than home-made ice cream. Yummy. There is somthing to be said about this good, old-fashioned treat that makes kids, and the kids-at-heart, smile. Yes, the cream adds an extra calorie or two, but how can you pass up all natural fun made with whatever you want?....if you love fruit; well, add strawberries or cherrys.....add some chocolate or pecans....if that is what you feel like--the sky is the limit. Personally, I have fell in love with Austin's Home-Made Ice Cream in a neighboring sleepy little town Kenova, WV. Cinnamon is to die for as well as the Kaluha Crunch. How could you possibly make it any better, you ask? Serve it in handmade cups on a super funky fun tray from MacBeth. An inspiring way to beat the heat!
