Chapter 6

There were no birds singing. No crickets chirping. There was only but the sun and the cold air. The cold, chilling air. Blow the winter wind did; so unkind it was. I remember it that day. I remember it well. I echoed our plight in life. Lifeless, unrelenting, fleeting. Here in the field we lay, on broken stalks of corn. They too were cold.

I awoke from my slumber. I could taste the grogginess that this morning had brought us. A short sun on the horizon, creepi…  More

Social gaming

Based on actual stuff that happens (otherwise known as "events"), this list of dos and don'ts is a guide for any gamer interested in participating in LAN parties or competitive events. To avoid committing all sorts of faux pas and the embarrassing humiliation that often follows, simply adhere to these five simple rules and you should be all set to frag your opponents without the cloud raining the twin evils of shame and fear hanging over your head.

Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

Do: Maintain y…  More

So, as I was stumbling the internet, I can across a website known as www.pown.it. Now, I'm not totally sure what the site is, but the page that came up was a pretty dang rad videogame music playlist with music ranging from LttP's famous Dark World theme to music from Call of Duty 4 (Tank Defense, for those who care). Anywho, I saw this, listened to some of it, and thought I'd be doing the Hellforge community a terrible disservice by not sharing it with you. So here you go.
EDIT: Link has been cha…  More
Diablo III Dungeon Exit

Blizzard's community manager for Diablo III, Bashiok, recently talked about the aesthetic direction of dungeons in the upcoming Action RPG, who explained that the look and feel of every dungeon will vary depending on its importance.

"I think there's a nice juxtaposition between the larger more epic dungeons and the others that may be less epic but have very specific tones and themes associated with them. When you step inside one of the more epic dungeons, like the Tristram cathedral (and consi…  More

Diablo II Mephisto Render CGI
Blizzard community manager Bashiok wrote a lengthy and revealing post concerning the delayed release of the Diablo II 1.13 patch that was announced some months ago. Details are as follows:

Many of you are wondering what's up with the patch and the ladder reset. While I've sprinkled some information around, it's about time it was all mashed up in one easy-to-read location.

The Story -
Once upon a time our internal legacy development teams wanted to put some much needed love into Diablo II. Diab…  More

left 4 dead 2

Speaking to CVG, Valve's Doug Lombardi says that the teeming masses of Left 4 Dead players can expect some announcements for Left 4 Dead downloadable content come Summer.

He also mentioned that new L4D2-relaced announcements will be made within the coming months, with details of new Special Infected, weapons and campaigns being made available along with an L4D2 demo that will give everyone a chance to play the game before it hits the shelves.

Lombardi added that he thinks players will be abl…  More

Cataclysm

Blizzard has filed a new trademark by the title of “Cataclysm” leading many to speculate that it may be related to an unannounced, and perhaps final expansion for World of Warcraft. Cataclysm was registered for the following reasons:

Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games; providing computer games that may be accessed via a global computer network; and providing on-line information in the field of computer gaming entertainment Comic books, computer game strategy guides,…  More

Started playing Age of Conan yesterday again after some time in exile from the game. Seems like the RP on my server (Aquilonia) seems rather dead. That boring because now I'll have to find another good RP server and level up (again) and that's just boring. I WANT TO ROLEPLAY! The RP there seems to be dead maybe not forever but at least for a while.

The problems here could be many but I think I have 1 or 2 theories for it:
1. Just like WoW became boring it might be because to many 'youngsters' is …  More

Hellforge Hitpoints returns with its third episode as Nichole “Snail” Ramos and I take on the ultimate subject of gaming debate: PCs versus Consoles. Also joining us today and chiming in with his distinct opinions is Gabriel “The Extremist” Vermeulen as we approach the touchy topic that has threatened to cause a rift between gamers for well over a decade.

Are you for computers or consoles? Take a stand, and feel free to contribute your thoughts and opinions on the subject in the comments thread…  More

Here we are, once again, on the fringe of bad taste and madness with Internet Personalities, the write up where I analyze the Interwebs and the kooky personalities that are commonly used on forums and games alike. In the past three write ups I've been looking at gamers for the most part, but now it's time to look in on the true retches of forum humanity. Though I like to pose the question no one has actually ever asked me, I will still pose it regardless; why do I take on the dubiously degenerate path of analyzing the dummies? Mostly because there's nothing good on tv. So on with fourth writeup we go!…  More

Hey! This is to be my first blog entry here, wish me best of luck!

So roleplaying. It's highly underestimated. When people buy games like Age of Conan and World of Warcraft they think about the game in general, some people surely don't even know what roleplaying is. I didn't know what it was before I accidentally ran into Goldshire with my level 16 rogue in WoW and felt like giving it a try. People who haven't tested this and love PvP or PvE often says it's just boring to roleplay.

Well, it ain't…  More

There were a number of interesting posts on the official Diablo 3 forums, so rather than summarise each one, you can see quotes of the most interesting bits below.

First Bashiok talked about the lack of LAN in Diablo 3 after someone asked a question about it:
After yesterday's *****-fest when people around the internet found out about a lack of LAN play in StarCraft 2 you had to know this wasn't the end of the issue.

First up was a statement from Blizzard PR man Bob Colayco:

"We don't currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN …  More

As the years go on in the gaming industry, it becomes quite frequent to find that consumers are lashing back at developers who make blunders and bad decisions. I like to call this phenomenon "consumer criticism." It's usually founded with legitimate concerns and arguments and they have every right to voice them. The lowest common detractor, however, likes to call this "*****ing." Actually, they call it a lot of things, in fact, and none of the most common arguments put forth by them are ac…  More

At first glance this topic may seem like a total troll post.  China ban gold farming, ya right.  The reality is gold farming is now illegal in China as is trading virtual currency for real goods or services.  Another big issue with this new law means the sale of "pre-paid cards of cyber games" is no longer legal.  I don't know if the public wellness benefits of such a measure outweigh the losses in the economy but apparently the Chinese feel it does.

Could this be the miracle we were seeking to …  More
