What up, y'all. It'scha boiiii DM. So basically, after the DMCA's @ various posts here, the attatched AdSense account was also attacked and shut down for "hacking". Most of you guys know where to find the latest updates. Based on the last few posts, you probably have figured out by now that the guys working on D3 dev were well-prepared (lemme twitter dat). Obviously I am completely unaffiliated with such groups. I'll just highlight a few things:

The Diablo III friends & family beta started earlier in a few areas, and I was able to find a link to the beta client downloader around the 2nd, but I was busy until around the 4th. The majority of the Internet seemed to figure it out around the 6th, and developments have already come a long, long way and very quickly.

I heard there are a few Diablo 3 development IRC channels around (check the forums/BH/Reddit/just about anywhere). Looks like there's a Diablo III directory at BHFiles now, but I don't think much is being uploaded just yet. I heard there was also a project-of-interest being pushed to Github later today/tomorrow.

You've probably seen this all over the Internet by now. It's a couple days old.
It's Spht's personal project, and some Chinese site was ripping it as their own.

Another thing I wanted to mention a few months ago around the same time that I got a bunch of DMCA notices from Google was about Ben Boos. He did UI/artwork for Diablo II and gave it that nice vibe we all know so well. He was an extremely talented, passionate artist and an all-'round great br0 that unfortunately died a few months back. He even paid visits to Blizzhackers occasionally before his sudden death.

Very detailed, beautiful, and you can just smell the guy's passion for what he did. I purchased Swords previously, and I believe crutex just did as well. I definitely plan to grab Fantasy for completion when I clear out some of my reading backlog.

As a side note, if Garwulf (Robert Marks) still frequently Googles his name/reads this blog, hopefully this can be a subtle nod to reiterate my point that "we're actually good peoples." If you die tomorrow, bro, rest in peace knowing that your family will at least partially be assisted by a group of dullard game-hacking-hobbyists. We look'n out; stay chillaxed. @:O) *HoNk hOnK*

Those interested in Diablo III should definitely keep watch @ the forums, and even more so, the IRC channels.

In other news, WarCraft 4 now has a projected window of Q3 2016/17 (almost certainly will be pushed back). The only for sure info at the moment is that it will be the next RTS proceeding the release of Titan.

I am sorry for your losses, but Blizzhackers and myself do not support hacks with a price tag as you are probably aware. As such, to answer some queries, we will not be providing support for Chaotic's NoAddiction. In fact, Blizzhackers as a collective has nothing to do with NoAddiction, nor do we have access to the project's source code to continue development. The reason you are being redirected to my somewhat deprecated blog is unknown to me and beyond my capacity of control. I have no personal proprietary ownership over either of the SH domains. However, feel free to use our forums to collect during SH's downtime. I know you're all wondering what happened and what happened to Chaotic. As far as I'm aware, Chaotic is in good health -- nothing in that regard has happened as some rumors are stating. Beyond that, let's just say reasons are personal and indisputable, but all one can do is speculate. Also, as far as I know, there was no breach of data or any sort of security attack to the site. All personal data should still be secure, but I am not entirely sure as to the scope of the situation regarding the actual website. I know domain ownership was transferred, but I have no idea about databases or such. Perhaps Warden Cat will revive the site somehow at some point down the road.

So, that “private” drophack that was being traded for currency was leaked today on Blizzhackers. Analysis brought up nothing malicious, but I have no way to test and make sure that it works although it looks legit. I heard it was possibly authored by someone in BHDev so it should be all good. Read the thread here and see for yourself. Use at your own risk. The chance for account closure from using this should be more than obvious.

I haven't been updating the blog lately because I'm still on vacaay, y'all 8D.

Ok, so we know for sure that these "new" hybrid runewords existed well before now, but they are about to be opened to the public market. These are certainly not *all* of the hybrid dualwords, though. To answer some pondering questions, this does not necessarily mean that the 'exploit' to create these wasn't fixed previously. The best current theory could still be plausible. With Gary noting that the servers were apparently rebuilt a while after the first emergence wave of these and the character save file size overflow fixed, the possibility that it was to repair something overlooked by Blizzard (undoubtedly) is still valid. Just because these are recently emerging to the market now does not evidently provide foundation to assumption that they were also recently freshly spawned. Exploiters could've easily stocked a huge cache before the fix, or they could be mass-duping original copies. There was definitely no Rust Storm-esque item filter yet. Just non-Ladder?

Based on previous posts, we know - and many, my self included, predicted - that the next introduction of hybrid items to the market after the initial "test run" runewords lost libido would be with the LLD/MLD in mind. These won't be the last either. Feel free to purchase as many of these as you want from the various chain of item shops. Please flood the market with them as fast as possible. I have a gut feeling that clearer details will surface as we come closer to the Diablo III retail window. hukuk^^

Once connected to battle.net, you cannot exit/enter battle.net again without restarting WC3.

Asap YourName has time to fix his hack, you should use his instead, as I won't update this.

Usage:
You have 2 options on how to use this hack:
1. Put both files (exe and dll) into wc3 directory, then you can start WC3 from dMap.exe which automatically calls dMap.dll into WC3's process.
2. Put both files into the same folder (desktop for example), start wc3, minimize, start dMap.exe, tab back towc3 and enjoy.

More Hiccups In The Console Platform

As well as Sony falling prey to yet another vulnerability, now Microsoft is looking to compensate for some nasty mistakes. With the PSN being phased back into existence in the past few days, users were, as expected, required to reauthorize with new passwords. Finally getting a successful login to the PSN resulted in a mandatory prompt, but Sony also pandered to customers by allowing resetting their passwords through their website -- only to come under attack by a new exploit. Armed with only the victims email and date of birth, the primitive reset mechanism could be exploited quite easily. From what I can tell, it went something like this:

Password reset page via store.playstation.com
Don't validate the confirmation with proper token yet (was found at the end of the url "...action?token=%s")
In another window/tab go to one of the alternative subdomains to password recover
Enter target's email and DOB
Use token to bypass actual email confirmation and reset password

Massive fail. Of course with the big previous attack, obtaining proper email and DOB was already done for a number of accounts. This issue is currently being addressed by Sony. They have also decided what games they will use for their "Welcome Back" compensation package. Based on region, users will be able to choose 2 games from a list of 5 old, but decent titles (LBP, inFamous, R&C:QfB, et al.) - not some shitty arcade games.

Sony's competitor, Microsoft, has also faced quite a nasty bump in the road. While they are continuing to phase in their updates from the new XGD3 disc format and firmware/dashboard updates (Read: http://blizzhackers.blogspot.com/2011/04/xbox-microsofts-new-xgd3-format.html ), users not in the beta are starting to receive the trickle of updates as well. Turns out that one of those firmware updates kind of killed a bunch of the older Xbox 360 models by bricking the DVD drive. The funny thing (not being reported in other news articles and blog posts, but I can confirm) is that this very problem was reported repeatedly by beta testers in the private preview forums, but the issue was apparently not addressed before it was pushed out. The forums have since been removed from view. However, I'd consider the luck to be anything but poor to victims. Microsoft is offering a free replacement with the newest Xbox 360 S model as well as an entire year of live for free. That's a pretty good deal; certainly better than their past compensations (lol, Undertow).

Open the file VCMH.ini and edit the key code value to what you want.

3 state maphack
Shows all units on mini-map and main-map except for cloaked units when in viewing range. Also, comes with 3 different modes which are off, lite and full.

Camera lock
This feature locks the camera x/y coordinates and current selected in position for replay viewing so you can take a look at your enemy without worry. Also, all future selections while on are client sided and not saved into the replay. Automatically turns off when you try using any of your units in case you accidentally leave it on.

Enable observer panel
Enables the replay observer panel thats located at the top left of screen. To change the display mode using one of the hotkeys you will need to hold down the Alt key. That way it won't interfere with any unit button hotkeys or anything else.

That being said this is maphack that only reads memory, and draws the information to the screen. It will work in ANY display mode (including Fullscreen!).

Description:

This is an external maphack that uses overlays. Each and every map needs to be calibrated, the settings are saved so you should only have to do it once for each map dimension. It will be changed in a future future that will allow all dimensions to work after 1 calibration.

This program does not inject anything into SC2 or modify the process/files in any way so it's 100% safe from warden. It only reads memory, so you will never get banned. However if you play stupid and always counter your enemies etc, they can ban based of obvious maphacking.

This maphack only works when SC2 is in Windowed mode -Map or Windowed (Fullscreen) mode - Map and Screen.
It may also be ran at any time.

The resolution has NOTHING to do with the minimap. You will have to size it up regardless. And most of the time the red box will be larger than the UI box.

In order for the screen stuff (not minimap) to draw you must use one of the following supported desktop resolutions:
1920x1200, 1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1600x1200, 1600x900, 1440x900, 1366x768, 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1280x720, 1024x768

And I repeat you only have to have a supported resolution for SCREEN not MINIMAP. the MINIAMP will show up regardless of what sc2 reslution you are in. But for SCREEN you must be in a supported one.

And if you don't know what SCREEN and MINIMAP is:
SCREEN: The area of the screen where you select units at and see fog of war etc.
MINIMAP: The bottom left area where you see a mini version of the map.

Diablo III Beta details emerge

In the long-awaited first quarter conference call from Activision/Blizzard today, Mike Morhaime announced that internal testing for the Diablo III beta has already started as of last week. External testing is currently slated to begin Q3 2011 (July 1-Sept 30). They also noted that they still hope to push the game out for retail within this year, but it is never certain with Blizzard as they try to never compromise quality to hit a release window (but Activision...). With the beta planned for late Q3, I find it hard to imagine the game will make retail before 2012, but who knows?

It isn't like the staple spoofed inventory compiler like Blizzhackers is known for (PKTK), but it simply does a verbose of gear by calling the game's internal chat printing function in the syntax of [Name String] - [Quality Type] [Item Type] [(Equipment Location)]. There's so much more I could bitch about, but let's look back to all the shitty stuff I previously predicted Activision and EA would phase in to the gaming industry. I thought for sure Activision would do it first, but it turns out EA has been doing a great job of providing the precedence for them with all the bullshit anti-piracy/DRM measures and the online accounts for additional revenues and killing the market for anything other than buying the game new (meaning EA gets the money instead of the 3rd-party or original owner)... as if EA really needed any more criticisms, they are basically setting themselves up to be scapegoated by Activision in a "uh, well... they did it first!" bullet-point after they follow EA's trail in killing the gaming industry as we knew it.

Because all you cuntrags out there continued to support EA by purchasing its digital "bonus"/"extra" contents, they are now whipping out the game-changer. You thought it was bad before? This is what EA just announced:

“ Our strategies could be defined as fundamentally 'defensive'. Today, we are announcing a big shift to 'offense.' ” - EA CEO John Riccitiello

Holy fuck, all this hasn't been a "defensive" EA? Jesus Christ. Riccitiello went on to say that EA, which became an industry leader thanks to it's physical 'packaged goods' business model, will now completely adopt the "games as a service" model. "Over the coming years, we will transform EA from a packaged goods company to a fully integrated digital entertainment company". That means focusing on three aggressive core strategies as they move forward he explained.

Pushing the popular intellectual property of titles like, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield, Need for Speed, The Sims, Tetris, Dragon Age, Dead Space, and other titles. The company will also leverage the popularity of labels like EA Sports and its casual Pogo brand. "We fully intend to make these properties into year-round businesses that lead their sectors across a range of platforms." Now, while not everything about this could potentially be a bad thing, you must take into account the fact that it's EA. It will be a bad thing. It will cost gamers in more ways than just financially.
The exec also said EA will view itself as "a software platform every bit as much as we see ourselves as a content maker for other companies' platforms." He added EA already has seen major growth in its online "core registration system," which has grown to 112 million customers, up from 61 million a year prior. You stupid fucking assholes. This is your fault. "While we will continue to be a great partner to our best retail customers and first party partners, you will see the beginnings of a consumer game platform emerge at EA that complements and extends the console ecosystem and addresses the wider opportunity on other devices," he said.
The third part of Riccitiello and EA's "offensive" stance is a focus on talent acquisition. He said the publisher is integrating its development teams with marketing and monetization. That's "a big change," he said. "As an investor, you can see this as a way to better manage our IP, and drive up the ARPU for our core properties. As a developer, you can see this as the reason EA will be the most interesting and satisfying place to work in the game industry." Yeah, like Infinity Ward and Activision. That's exactly what we need, right? Merging development talent with monetization and marketing....

Now, I want to go back to the EA Online Pass stuff. Again, this is something you'll notice in any newer EA game -- e.g., Bulletstorm, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, et cetera. -- where you will find out that if you aren't the original owner of the game, rented it, or for whatever reason didn't get first dibs on the activation code for the EA Online Pass that came with the game originally, you must pay an additional $10 to buy a new one or you will not have access to all of the game's content and multiplayer/online capacity. This was marketed and masked as, of course, an anti-piracy measure so people who just pirate the game and download it will, theoretically, not be able to access the game's online content. However, the real major factor was the fact that it would absolutely cripple re-sale markets like GameStop's used game inventory, eBay, Blockbuster, Gamefly, etc. etc. Why? Because EA doesn't receive the cash from those transactions as it does when places sell the game brand new. Ok, technically speaking in terms of our current backasswards intellectual property laws, that is completely fair use of their rights. BUT IT'S ALL BULLSHIT.

For years now "Copyright Infringement"/"Anti-Piracy" has been used as a buzzword similar to "Communism"/"Terrorism"/"War on Drugs"/etc. to let companies basically do whatever the fuck they want to regardless of end-user rights as the US government has often done. The main difference being that the defined rights of the end-user in the digital reality hasn't been clearly defined to keep up with the ever-changing pace of technological evolution and resulting factors. It's not just software companies, though. It's not just IP companies that abuse the system obviously. Look at the current situation with New Zealand. The US helped them fund the operations to let rights-holders govern the Internet over there basically. Internet monitoring, logging, and copyright infringement accusations are ridiculously rampant. Just being accused results in loss of Internet access to start.

But right now I'm focusing on EA's current affairs. So when you buy something, don't you gain rights to it? Well, as we all know that is hardly true anymore when it comes to games. We aren't purchasing a copy of the game anymore - we're purchasing the license to use the game under their 'Terms of Service' and 'End-User License Agreement' which is basically meta-pseudo-law-or-something, but it wasn't always like that was it? How did it happen? I get asked this often, but I'm not a very law-savvy dude. Who is? Lawyers? Judges? I don't know. Is it really possible to be aware and understand EVERY US law in existence? We're expected to. We are held responsible even during a claim of ignorance. (Ignorantia juris non excusat) Still, even I could write a plethora of paragraphs detailing the inquisition and history that led to this corrupt and poorly-constructed state. But to answer that question is a bit easier. Cliffsnotes:

First-Sale Doctrine was codified in the Copyright Act during the 70s; limitation that gives owners rights to resell copyrighted properties, or lawful copies of the work as long as the transfer is all legal.
CONTU results in US Copyright Act § 117 - Limitations on exclusive rights: Computer programs; Owners have rights to make lawful, non-infringing copies of copyrighted materials for purposes of archiving, utilization, repair, etc.; Congress makes one change before ratifying: uses term "owner" instead of "possessor". (Another section also makes it legal to reverse engineer.)
Software companies, et al. exploit the term used by claiming they are licensing their software and not selling copies for ownership.
Shrink-wrap and click-wrap license agreements/terms are abused for legally-binding contractual relations between the end-user and the company.
Companies use this exploit to selectively transcend or preclude parts of the Copyright Act/First-Sale Doctrine/etc.
Breaking EULA/ToS becomes Copyright Infringement, breach of contract, etc.; Courts still split between judgement on related situations.
Companies like Blizzard go so far as to claim that the virtualized copy of the software client in the end-users' memory is a copy, modifying/reversing this copy becomes infringing according to EULA/ToS.
etc. etc.

But is EA asking for $10 for full access to the game from resale really that bad? Reselling art in California or France can sometimes yield to paying royalties. Is it so different? I say it's bad, but only because it sets the path for further exploitation fueled by greed. It could be much worse, and something like this is a preceding PHASE to a state that will be much worse, and companies like EA and Activision always seem hungry. Remember, the next big phase after digital distribution will be completely streamed content, and the hardware is catching up.

Anonymous really is behind PSNightmare? [trollface.jpg]

While Sony just finished making claims at their recent conference to free Anonymous of responsibility for the attacks, they have since issued a reply <view full letter> to the congressional letter stating otherwise. The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing in Washington, DC on the "Threat of Data Theft to American Consumers." While Sony did provide a response letter, they declined to make a presence to testify at the hearing. Sony desperately tried to explain the seriousness of the situation, and why the investigation and announcement timeline occurred as it did. They hoped the committee could "appreciate the extraordinary nature of the events the company was facing," and understand a monolith company must take every precaution to save as much face as possible to protect their profits at the expense of others.

In summary, we told the subcommittee that in dealing with this cyber attack we followed four key principles:

Act with care and caution.
Provide relevant information to the public when it has been verified.
Take responsibility for our obligations to our customers.
Work with law enforcement authorities.

We also informed the subcommittee of the following:

Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack.
We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.”
By April 25, forensic teams were able to confirm the scope of the personal data they believed had been taken, and could not rule out whether credit card information had been accessed. On April 26, we notified customers of those facts.
As of today, the major credit card companies have not reported any fraudulent transactions that they believe are the direct result of this cyber attack.
Protecting individuals’ personal data is the highestpriority and ensuring that the Internet can be made secure for commerce is also essential. Worldwide, countries and businesses will have to come together to ensure the safety of commerce over the Internet and find ways to combat cybercrime and cyber terrorism.
We are taking a number of steps to prevent future breaches, including enhanced levels of data protection and encryption; enhanced ability to detect software intrusions, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns; additional firewalls; establishment of a new data center in an undisclosed location with increased security; and the naming of a new Chief Information Security Officer.

We told the subcommittee about our intent to offer complimentary identity theft protection to U.S. account holders and detailed the “Welcome Back” program that includes free downloads, 30 days of free membership in the
PlayStation Plus premium subscription service; 30 days of free service for Music Unlimited subscribers; and extending PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited subscriptions for the number of days services were unavailable.

We are working around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services restored and we’ll be providing specific details shortly. We hope this update is helpful to you, and we will continue to keep you posted as we work to restore our network and provide you with both the entertainment and the security you deserve.

Representative Mary Bono Mack also made a return, slamming Sony in their absence at the hearing.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), chair of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, opened the hearing with a sustained attack on both companies. After saying that both Sony and Epsilon were also "victims," Bono Mack stopped sympathizing with the firms. And she made clear that she's no fan of using "a blog" for public disclosure of a breach:

But they also must shoulder some of the blame for these stunning thefts, which shake the confidence of everyone who types in a credit card number and hits "enter"…

As Chairman of this Subcommittee, I am deeply troubled by these latest data breaches, and the decision by both Epsilon and Sony not to testify today. This is unacceptable.

According to Epsilon, the company did not have time to prepare for our hearing—even though its data breach occurred more than a month ago. Sony, meanwhile, says it’s too busy with its ongoing investigation to appear. Well, what about the millions of American consumers who are still twisting in the wind because of these breaches? They deserve some straight answers, and I am determined to get them…

Yet for me, the single most important question is simply this: Why weren’t Sony’s customers notified sooner of the cyberattack? I fundamentally believe that all consumers have a right to know when their personal information has been compromised, and Sony - as well as all other companies—have an overriding responsibility to alert them... immediately.

In Sony’s case, company officials first revealed information about the data breach on their blog. That’s right. A blog. I hate to pile on, but—in essence—Sony put the burden on consumers to "search" for information, instead of accepting the burden of notifying them. If I have anything to do with it, that kind of half-hearted, half-baked response is not going to fly in the future.

Panelists joined in. Dr. Gene Spafford of Purdue testified that Sony's system was weak, and that those weaknesses had been revealed on security mailing lists months before the breach. According to Spafford, key parts of Sony's PlayStation Network ran on Apache servers that "were unpatched and had no firewall installed." This was reported in a forum known to be frequented by Sony employees, he said, though no changes were made in the months leading up to the attack.

Without Sony or Epsilon present, much of the hearing focused on potential data protection legislation that would create some kind of process for auditing a company's data security measures to make sure they conform to best practices. Breach notification rules were also discussed, and the Federal Trade Commission pushed for Congress to give it civil penalty authority to go after companies that lose data through carelessness; in the last 10 years, the FTC has brought cases against 34 such companies, though it is currently limited in the penalties it can seek.

Can better standards really protect against such breaches? A Secret Service investigator at the hearing said that they could, adding that in his view, 96 percent of such breaches could have been avoided through straightforward, well-known security techniques. Sophisticated hackers do exist, of course, but they are rare. If companies can simply cut off script kiddie access to their systems, it will be a big step toward better data security.

So whether Anonymous was involved or not is still unclear. You have to take into consideration that the real attacker(s) could be using Anonymous as a scapegoat, or claiming to be an arm of Anonymous while the rest denies accountability. Thus is the undefinable state of "Anonymous". What is clear is this attack was very much premeditated. While Sony was busy dealing with the massive DDoS from Anonymous, the attacker(s) were using that as cover during their intrusion. On April 19, Sony noticed that some of the 130 servers in the PSN were experiencing unscheduled reboots and started investigating logs to find out what happened. The next day, they found evidence of the real attack. Mentioning Sony attacks on AnonOps can possibly result in a ban now as the majority of activists want no claim in the matter as they move on to attacking Viacom and New Zealand over Copyright Infringement trolls and data logging and censorship in the name of profiteering. (See: WikiLeaks cables about how US bankrolled about half a million in NZ$ back in 2005 a private IP enforcement unit run by major rights-holders in the region.)

On top of all that, another class action lawsuit has been filed by Canadian law firm McPhadden Samac Tuovi. The lawsuit is currently still in its propositional phase. However, Sony has 20 days to respond, and can potentially be charged in excess of $1 billion for damages by Canadian citizens who have been affected by the breach. It seems Canadians are also catching on to the fact that Sony cares more about protecting its profits and games than its customers' sensitive data. The complaint claims that Sony must, "pay the costs of credit monitoring services and fraud insurance coverage for two years."

Sony is still looking to have a phased relaunch of the tighter PSN this week.
SOE said it would offer a free month of DC Universe Online for players on the PC
and a month's worth of subscription credit and a wearable in-game mask to
make up for the prolonged outage that has rendered the game unplayable.

What a cool mask for all the troubles.

Sony also went into further detail about the security groups they hired to assist with investigation of the attack; consultants from Guidance Software and Robert Half International Inc.'s subsidiary Protiviti were brought in. Services from a team from Data Forte, lead by a former U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service special agent, are also being retained. The three "recognized security firms" will work with the FBI in backtracing the identity of the alleged cyber-criminals. If you ask me, Sony should have gone straight to CSI so they could use their coveted VB GUI IP-backtracer softwarez.
