Since our feature, Justin went on to become the Chief Creative Officer at DeviantArt in 2018, moving to Los Angeles and relaunching their iconic brand. Four years later, he went on to create new series of artworks and returned to his Facets project in 2022, creating another 365 unique pieces over the course of the year.

This series below is inspired by star clusters, first observed by the Italian scientist and astronomer Galileo Galilei. Star clusters became the focus of study for astronomers for the next two centuries as a way of understanding stellar evolution.

The first person to use a telescope to observe the night sky and record his observations was the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei in 1609. When he turned the telescope toward some of the nebulous patches that he saw, he discovered to his surprise, that they were not parts of a single star, but groupings of many stars clustered together.

With this sculpture series entitled 'Star Cluster' Milanese artistic duo, Cascione and Lusciov tried to recreate a group of celestial objects with a nebulous appearance similar to comets, which are loosely bound by mutual gravitational attraction. This moving group of star sculptures shares a common motion through space as well as a common origin in space and time.

During its lifetime a star changes shape and color. Cascione and Lusciov tdecided to represent these life events through transformations and aerodynamics of shapes combined with highly reflective gold and silver double-sided mirror surfaces that transmit the color shift amplified by added sense of motion and dynamicity.

The series is composed of a total of four star sculptures identified as star A, star F, star G, and star K. The star A is the largest and most massive of the six bright stars at the heart of the cluster.

We’re happy to share that Sven Sauer, digital matte painter and remarkable visual artist, will be featured in our next Hayden’s print and web magazine issue this winter. Sven’s work in “Game of Thrones” over the years has won numerous awards and become fan favorites, defining the environment that fans of the cult TV show, love.

We’ve previously featured Sven in Hayden’s. Sven recently won an international art contest in Nürnberg along with fellow visual art collaborators. The event was very popular with over 100,000 visitors.

Sven Sauer, whom we have featured previously on Hayden’s here, in 2014 and in a full-length feature in 2012, has just released a gorgeous new art book featuring art works from George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones. Sven has created some of the most iconic visual art backgrounds for the popular TV series, winning numerous Oscars for his outstanding work.

Along with 40 international visual effects artists, Sven has spent three years working on the history of George R. R. Martin's 'Game of Thrones,’ showcasing up to 80 previously unseen images of Westeros destinations in a new visual art book.

This amazing team has worked on all of these movies below!

We're happy to share that Slowdive's new single 'Star Roving' tops Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 Chart today. The song reached No. 1 on theBillboard chart at 8 a.m. ET Thursday, just hours after it premiered on YouTube and other streaming services. 

Slowdive also posted the song on its website, saying, "We really hope folks enjoy it, it's part of a bunch of new tracks we've been working on and it feels as fun and as relevant playing together now as it did when we first started."

After several reunion shows and a comeback tour in 2014, Slowdive announced that it was working on new music via the Dead Oceans label. "Star Roving" is the first track from the group's upcoming album.

New Year, New Album

Our first guest on our new podcast launching in September of this year, features the UK shoegazing band Slowdive. The band just finished recorded their first album in 20 years since Pygmalion (1995).

The return of Slowdive was one of the musical highlights of 2014. After almost two years of playing together, the band has finished a new album. Still led by Neil who is the primary songwriter, this album's music also includes new sounds. In an interview with the Danish publication Undertoner (via Reddit), drummer Simon Scott revealed, "...what has changed since the ’90s, is that he (Neil) asked me to manipulate some of the sounds we have recorded. It’s not that the album is going to sound electronically. We’ve played together for two years after the restoration, and Neil wanted to capture how well a live band, we are, in the studio. So in that way it’s a live record.”

The estimated release date is 2017. Below are some recordings from Pygmalion (1995).

Different from the two prior albums, Pygmalion incorporated a more experimental sound tilted towards ambient electronic music, with sparse, atmospheric arrangements. All compositions were by Neil Halstead.

The exhibit will consist of images on a computer interface. Each image dissolves to a crystal white. The artist's contact information will be available below each piece of artwork so you can learn about them and order from them directly.

The interfaces are also touch-sensitive. Videos can be watched instantly.

It's a fun experiment and we're pioneering a new way of showcasing artwork in galleries. We'll post more updates here as we build this out. Thanks.

The world becomes a high-contrast graphic representation of itself. This distillation of form allowed me to focus on painting pure motion in relation to the winter landscape. This film is composed of approximately 2,250 watercolor paintings on paper. It is a kind of winter companion to my film “L’Eau Life,” although here the water is frozen and therefore much easier to paint — because painting snow mostly means leaving the paper white. The music is by Shay Lynch, and wonderfully captures the endless cascade of the montage while giving the film a kind of emotional elegance in spite of its vaudevillian pratfalls.This film and essay originally appeared in my blog The Animated Life in the New York Times, Opinion.
