When I first started getting into knitting, wearables like sweaters and cardigans really intimidated me. It’s not until I made my first sweater pattern that I realized how fun it could be to knit your own clothes!

The Beginner Mohair Sweater was intentionally designed with beginners in mind. It uses a lightweight yarn, held double, it works up quickly, and the stitches and construction are really straightforward as it is knit seamlessly from the top down.

The Beginner Mohair Sweater has a round yoke, which is shaped by knitting increases on four rounds evenly separated on the yoke.
The construction is pretty straightforward; you begin by knitting the neckband, then the yoke, then the body, and finally the sleeves. The sweater is knit in stockinette stitch, while the neckband, bottom edge (waist band), and cuffs are knit in garter stitch.

For the sweater, I used mohair yarn. There’s just something about mohair yarn that makes it instantly more sophisticated to me. Diablo yarn from Hobbii is a glorious blend of acrylic, mohair, polyamide fibers, making the Beginner Mohair Sweater a pleasure to knit as well as wear.

The Modern Baby Blanket starts out with solid granny squares divided into triangles of different colors. Joining each square together with a slip stitch, the arrows will begin to form with the connecting triangles. Once all squares are seamed, the entire project is finished off with a cluster border.

Drops Nepal has a robust selection of colors which made it a little hard to narrow things down. Since I knew I was going for a blanket with Light Beige as the base and 4 accent colors, I started mixing and matching the different options. The options are endless!

Also the sweater comes in 4 sizes guaranteeing you will find your ideal size whether you like it more fitted or oversized (garment is made with 2 inches (5 cm) positive ease).

Regarding the yarn, I made the sample with Jeans yarn (Kren from UKnit Lab which is now discontinued) but a nice equivalent would be Billie Jean yarn from Wool and The Gang or Jeans from Lion Brand Yarn basically any other aran weight yarn you want. You can have a look here at which yarns have been used so far to make the sweater but to be honest I truly believe a worsted weight yarn would work perfectly as well!

It’s officially hat season and I wanted to create a very simple quick and easy knit hat pattern that is both beginner friendly and classic. It uses only basic knit stitches and would be perfect for those who want to try their first knit project or for those looking for a quick afternoon make!

For this project I used some lovely yarn from Knitcrate! If you haven’t heard about Knitcrate I recommend you check it out (who doesn’t want gorgeous yarn delivered every month?). I used Vidalana Ambient Worsted in Rose Blush; I really love the color transition of the yarn plus it’s really soft!

The hat can be made literally in any worsted weight yarn you have at hand, which makes the hat a great stash buster project! I recommend you use either 100% wool or a soft wool blend to maintain the extra coziness!

I’m so excited to show you my newest wrap design, the Summer Solstice Shawlette!

This shawl is fancy & upscale – ready for a night on the town. I love the versatility wraps and shawls have – they can be worn in so many different ways and paired with lots of different outfits (from jeans to gowns!). I used a lovely sport weight yarn from Knitcrate I had lying around, but the cool thing is you can make it in any yarn weight you want!

I’ve made a couple of shawls this year, but I wanted to create a more textured one with a pronounced point. Hence the eyelet point which gives the shawlette a more summery feeling! This shawlette is not as long as other shawls, making it ideal for the summer or the early days of fall!

I used only 2 skeins of Shine Sport from Audine Wools in the colorway Sky. The shawlette would look beautiful with a solid and variegated tone as well. I can’t wait to see what color combinations you make, I’m sure they’ll all be beautiful!

When I first signed on as an ambassador for Darn Good Yarn I knew I was in for a treat. But I didn’t realize how much the plethora of yarns on the Darn Good Yarn website would inspire me. I’ve created this Openwork Lattice Shawl pattern and it was heavily influenced by the yarn I chose. For this shawl I went with the Lace Weight Silk Yarn which comes in a variety of colors that can go with any outfit! The result is a lightweight airy, playful shawl that's perfect for the chillier summer evenings.

The Openwork Lattice Shawl is the perfect project for a knitter wanting to try their first shawl. This shawl was designed for everyday wear, being simple and elegant, it would match perfect with some jeans and sneakers! Knit from side to side it grows into an asymmetrical triangle that drapes perfectly when wrapped around your neck and shoulders. Sections of relaxing garter stitch are paired with sections of the openwork lattice stitch and end with a textured seed stitch section to keep things interesting. The overall effect is highly structural yet playful at the same time.

To really help the color and texture of the Openwork Lattice Shawl pop, I needed to pick the right yarn. Darn Good Yarn has so many amazing options on their site. A lighter yarn seemed appropriate for the summertime , so I looked through the fingering/lace weight, category selection.

I instantly fell in love with the vibrant color palette of the Lace Weight Silk Yarn. This yarn is great because it has a touch of silk in it, which gives the finished project some additional elegance! You’ll need three skeins for the Openwork Lattice Shawl making it a great choice. The yarn comes in amazing colors (shown Autumnal Equinox) making the choice quite difficult!

It’s been a while since I actually made something for myself!

When the lovely peeps from Lovecrafts offered me to try out their sock yarn, Paintbox Yarns Socks, I was so excited to knit a pair of socks for me!

I have made another pair of socks a couple of years ago so I consider myself to be a newbie in sock knitting and searched for an easy yet stylish pattern to knit. I chose a wonderful self degrading purple shade from the Paintbox Yarns sock collection (Wisteria is the name) and was so excited to find the Basic Bed Socks by Maker Maker Store.

The Basic Bed Socks is an easy pattern worked in the round from the toe up. I used 3.25 mm round needles to make my socks and you can pretty much adjust the pattern to fit your foot. I went with the medium size but I could have gone with the smaller one as the sock tends to stretch a bit. It is a pattern that can be easily customized as you can just knit the leg or foot longer or shorter!

The only intimidating part of the sock is knitting the heel, but once I worked a couple of rows and got the gist it really became easier and I had finished the heel before I knew it. I followed this tutorial for the DS knitting stitch and pretty much got the hang of it.

Regarding the yarn, I cannot be happier with the outcome! The shade is amazing and the yarn works up lovely! It is a soft sock yarn (75% super wash wool, 25% polyamide) coming in a number of fabulous colorways making it really difficult to pick a favorite!

It knits up lovely and If you don’t want to try the toe up technique, Lovecrafts offers plenty of free sock patterns to make your own socks and be happy!

To get a nice outcome on your socks I recommend you block them using sock blockers. The difference is huge!

I have this pair from Knitpro but any blocker will get the job done.

I first created the Hopscotch Blanket a few years back and recently decided to rework the pattern!

I recently purchased some Mandala yarn to make the Beginner One Skein Shawl and fell in love with this self grading yarn; I knew I had to make a blanket with it!

I loved working with a self striping color palette; the end result is a super soft blanket that didn’t cost a fortune to make.

Mandala is a new yarn set from Lion Brand Yarn available in the most upbeat color palettes. It comes in 24 spell-binding colors. This fiber is 100% Acrylic, so it’s safe for sensitive skin. I have attached some of the available color combinations below so that you can take a look!

I went with color 223 Mermaid.

Although I am in love with the Hopscotch Blanket in a baby size gifted to a new mom, I have recalculated this pattern to work for blankets of just about any size!

A fun aspect of this blanket is that it can be made in a solid color, different sizes of color block stripes, more or fewer stripes, a two-tone stripe effect, anything goes. The Hopscotch Blanket is totally customizable making it a perfect weekend project!

ABOUT FILET CROCHET

• What is filet crochet?

In filet crochet double crochet stitches and chain stitches are arranged so as to form a grid of blocks and spaces.

• What hook and yarn can I use for filet crochet?

Any size of yarn can be used; the size of the yarn will determine the size of the grid. Always use an appropriate size hook for your chosen yarn.

• How do I read a filet crochet graph?

Each square in a filet crochet pattern represents either a block that is filled with double crochet stitches or a space that is created by chain stitches.

A block is represented by three double crochet stitches (one side of the block, plus two middle stitches), while a space signifies a double crochet stitch and two chain stitches (one side of the block plus two chain/empty stitches). Adjacent blocks and spaces SHARE a common double crochet stitch.

TIP: When working a block over a space, work the center two double crochet stitches into the chain-2 space rather than into the actual chain stitches.

Start at the bottom right corner of the chart. Follow the first row from right to left; follow the second row from left to right.

I chained 117 sts for starting chain.

Maintain original pattern for blanket or use chart (see below) for extra help.

Substitute other yarns of any weight by using it’s recommended hook size and following the same stitch pattern with a foundation chain that’s the width of your desired blanket size and working row repeats until you’ve reached the length you desire. Keep in mind that alterations may affect yardage.

I recently found a skein of the most gorgeous self striping yarn! Actually, I had started to work this skein into a Tunisian crochet shawl but to be honest I did not like the outcome!

So, when I recently rediscovered this long abandoned wip I immediately knew I had to turn this yarn into a beginner friendly, crochet shawl perfect for the constantly changing temperatures!

I only used one skein of the Mandala yarn from Lion Brand Yarn, and worked the shawl using simple stitches and easy repeated rows, making it perfect for binge crocheting! It is an easy level crochet pattern, and the techniques you will need to know are double crochet, skipping stitches, and the chain stitch! 

The shawl for perfect for someone who knows the basic stitches and wants to try something new. It is the perfect size and weight - not too chunky but soft, plush, and warm. It can be worn as a wrap around the shoulders or a triangle scarf around the neck.

I really love how thicker yarn blends in with the bobble stitches to create this woven look!

When I first discovered Photowall I was really excited! Photowall is a company making top-quality wall décor that gives rooms a brand new look and feel. All of their motifs are handpicked and printed to order.

The Aniak Beanie is really a simple and lovely pattern to work up. Once you get the hang of it, it’ll be one of those projects you get to mindlessly work on as you watch your favorite show— aka the best kinds of projects. :)

The Aniak Beanie

Materials:

-Approximately 262 yards of worsted weight (4) yarn, I used Alize Lanagold Classic in color Light Brown Melange
-size i (5.5 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge"
-sewing pins (optional)
-yarn needle
-pom, if desired! I used some scrap yarn I had and my Clover Pom-Pom Maker, or add a fur pom pom

Gauge:

5x10 shells of basic pattern repeat = 4 inches (10 cm)

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

sctbl: single crochet through back loop

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

Shell = [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc]

st(s): stitch(es)

MC: Main color

Notes:

-this beanie is worked in spiral rounds, just keep crocheting in the round without joining!

-this pattern is written for a woman’s head— but is a touch "oversized” and slouchy (One size-9.5 inches (24cm) long exl. pom pom, approx. 20 inches (51 cm) circumference, with stretch)

Pattern:

BAND

With 5.50mm (U.S I/9) hook and MC ch 9.

Row 1: Starting from 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc in each ch across. (8 sts)

Row 2: Turn, ch1. Sctbl in each st across. (8 sts)

Repeat Row 2 until ribbing measures 18-19 inches (45 cm)

Fold band in middle and join the front and back with a sl st in each st. Do NOT fasten off.

BODY

Round 1: Sc in each st around, sl st to close the round (around 57 sc) Make sure you end up with a multiple of 3.

Round 2: shell in first sc, skip next 2 sc, * shell in next sc, skip next 2 sc, rep from * to end, continue working in the round.

Round 3: shell in first sc, *skip next 2 sts, shell in next sc, rep from * to end.

Repeat Round 3 until beanie measures 9.5 inches (24cm) Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

To close up the top of your hat, grab your yarn needle and the tail end of yarn. Weave your needle in and out of the stitches of the last round, doing a running stitch. Once all the way around, pull the tail end of yarn tightly to gather the top of the hat. Tie a couple of knots to secure, then add your pom if desired and weave in your ends.
