Since these were new events and a new setting for me, I did not know what to expect. What I did know however was that I wanted to share my experiences as a human being, as an educator, as a parent and as a business professional with the mental health and mental illnesses of major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, low spectrum autism and obsessive-compulsive disorder and how they affect my daily life.

Make a Difference

Upon the first event kicking off I was blown away by a couple of things. One was how open everyone was about themselves and two, how understanding everyone was when listening to others with similar or different disabilities. Never for one second did I get the impression that anyone was any different than the next person because everyone is unique whether they have a disability or not. As someone who only recently started to accept what society calls my disabilities, I was happy that everyone just wanted to have the same opportunities as the next person. If that means a person needs more time on an exam or help taking notes, then we should give it to them. I remember some classes where I needed more time on assignments than others so I could very much relate.

At Walsh University each student can do just that. It is refreshing especially during a time where so many people and groups are trying to divide, Walsh is bringing everyone together by accepting each person as they are and giving them the opportunity to thrive as a human being and as a student.

I am Valuable

The parent #DAW event was sobering and empowering all at the same time. At This Juncture, parents shared stories of heartbreak, burnout and overcoming with those in attendance. While I shared some of the successes I have achieved with my disabilities, those of my former and current students who were and are some of the best students I have had in my 7-year teaching career. Attending parents, much like the students just want their children to have the opportunity to be happy and to not be looked down on by others, which can in part be caused by the labels that society has placed on some.

To the students out there who are battling a disability, you are awesome and are just as valuable as the next student. To the educators be patient with your students. You can make the world of difference by just taking a few more seconds or minutes to listen and help. To the health care workers thank you for all that you do. And to society please be kind to others; everyone is going through something, including you.

Justin Alan Hayes, MBA is on the path to help 2 Billion people in his lifetime.

Join Justin by helping that someone in your life with: The House of You: Prescription for Living and The House of You: 5 Workforce Tips for a Successful Career

Keep Your Edge During COVID-19 Pandemic

During what have been some of the most uncertain times in recent history, the COVID-19 pandemic has handed us a crisis of a lifetime. In fact, at times it feels like that Aerosmith song Livin’ on the Edge where we are not quite sure what will happen next even if we wanted to know. And while it is going to take time to get back to some sense of normalcy, we should not wait until then for continued personal development. It may seem like a good thing to do; let’s wait until things settle down and then I’ll get back to working on myself. Taking the easy way or kicking the can down the road should not and cannot rule the day, not now, not ever.

Market Yourself

Now is the perfect time to add to your skill-set, add to your breadth of knowledge, broaden your horizons network outside of your comfort zone. Just as you are or have been investing in your retirement accounts, you need to be investing in yourself which is your most powerful future wealth building tool. When was the last time you sought out to learn a new skill that wasn’t required of your current job? When was the last time you read a book that wasn’t a requirement of your current job? Or when have you networked with someone outside of your current company? If your response to those 3 questions is that it has been over a year or even worse you cannot remember, then it is time for you stop that trend in its tracks. Today is the day you are changing your past philosophy and breaking the habit of status quo! Even if some or all of those activities are part of your ongoing personal development, maybe it is time to formalize a sense of purpose around each advancement activity.

Successful Career

If you read a new book each month on a new topic whether it is fiction or nonfiction, then a year from now you will have instilled 12 new books into your memory bank. Or if you join a professional industry association like the (American Marketing Association Northeast Ohio) or group and network with 1 new person each month, then a year from now you will have 12 new contacts outside of your current company. And if you sign-up for a training course that is of interest to you and is outside of your current responsibilities at work, then in a year you also have learned a new skill to add to your resume. The difference between you and I now and 12 months from now are the new people we have met, the new skills we have learned and the content and knowledge from the books we have read. All of which independently help us to keep our edge professionally and personally, whether or not we have been living through a pandemic.

About the Author Justin Hayes

Keep Your Edge During COVID-19 Pandemic

Is Everyone Crazy or Psycho Who Has a Mental Illness?

“If you are a human, you have mental health.”

It does not matter if your name is Kanye West, Taylor Swift or Justin Hayes., mental illness does not care about your popularity, net worth or how many private jets you own. When mental illness strikes, mental illness strikes whether you live in a multi-million dollar mansion in the Hollywood hills or in a homeless shelter. It strikes day or night, at minutes or even years at a time.

Why is it true then, that when a celebrity such as Kanye West goes through a mental illness episode, that people, many people are so quick to judge and jump to conclusions about the person and pretend that you are so much different then the person being judged? If you are a human, you have mental health. Read that again. If you are a human, you have mental health. That means everyone of us has mental health. I have been guilty of doing my fair share of judging others in my lifetime, so I do not pretend to be a perfect person, which for the record, none of us are perfect. But since I have been given a new outlook on life since my mental illness diagnoses after a near death incident, I have done more introspection and less judging of others. Could you start to do the same?

Just because you are a TMZ gossip reporter or host a TV show like Entertainment Tonight, it does not give you the authority to speak, post and comment as if you are a mental health expert. If instead you would take your platform to reach out and help someone who is going through a difficult time mentally, instead of only being concerned with what the hot topic is or how many likes or retweets you can get, then maybe some of us that are not blessed with talent or wealth on that level would be more willing to help smash the stigma of mental health, instead of worrying if we, too would be judged like Kanye

Think about it this way. Instead of being so quick to comment or post on social media that someone is “crazy” or “psycho” because you see or hear about someone battling mental illness in the public eye, remember that they too are a human being. No matter how many followers a person has on Twitter, that person could be one step away from questioning life and packing it in. You and I have seen the story all too many times.. Let us do our part in de-stigmatizing mental health and those of us with a mental illness.

About Justin Hayes

Is Everyone Crazy or Psycho Who Has a Mental Illness?

My Mental Illness Recovery Journey

Option 1: Immediate release to face an uncertain future the second I

I was being forced to choose between a path of uncertainty, or a path of uncertainty with professional guidance; like that was any better. Like they knew me and what I was going through. My personal nightmare I’ve been living for years, a story that they had literally just become main characters in. Perhaps more accurately, do I simply accept responsibility and own what was happening to me, or try to ignore it and hope to God I don’t end up right here in a hospital gown once again?

Clearly this was a life-treating time for me, which had only intensified to an overpowering level in the last few months. Leading up to that dreaded day in November 2017, the magnitude of the situation, albeit invisible, still was able to engulf anything else in my life. No manual or “self-help” guidebook could inform my next step here. Until that exact moment in time, I was my own hero. I firmly believed that I could correct any situation that had gone awry. I could solve any problem, based on the facts of a life lived, up until that point. Rooted in what I knew, I could help myself in a way that nobody else could. And so, this one time, I quieted my mind, my bullheadedness, my hardened heart, my ego trying to push its way through and dominate yet another situation. I listened. In the stillness of the sterile room, between my shallow breaths and everyone’s steady eyes on mine, I accepted that I wasn’t ready to die. I finally accepted that I needed help. I chose the second option.

Click here https://www.amazon.com/dp/1734951702 to read this on Amazon.

You may feel isolated, and feel as if others have their lives together while you are still floundering.

"I am totally useless."

When you lack confidence, you may feel like you don't have anything of value to contribute, whether it's to your workplace, relationships, or something else.

"I am a complete failure."

No one fails at every single thing; but to a person with low self-confidence, it can sure seem that way. You may feel like everything you've ever tried has failed, even if this is not true.

"I could never do that."

Do you see someone with a successful lifestyle you wish you had? If you lack self-confidence, you may have the above reaction. Instead of being inspired and wanting to create that lifestyle for yourself, you look at that person and get depressed, thinking you could never have what they have.

How Can These Mindsets Be Overcome?

In order to overcome these destructive mindsets that lead to low confidence, it's necessary to reprogram your thought processes. You will need to pay attention to your negative self-talk and immediately change it to something positive.

12 Ways to Make Your Money Stretch

For example, instead of "I will never get it right," you could stop that thought in its tracks and think instead, "I have trouble with this, but if I keep trying and seek out the right help, I know I can succeed." Rather than, "I could never do that," think, "I would love to do that! There's no reason why I can't have that lifestyle if I work at it."

You may need therapy and/or counseling to overcome these mindsets. But like everything else in life, you can do it if you set realistic goals and have confidence in yourself!

Find more here The House of You on Amazon or GooglePlay.

All rights of The House of You and included content is protected by U.S. Trademark. One way we can do that is by supporting people and organization’s that support that mission. The #NAMI walk that Team Hayes participated in yesterday raised over $105,000 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness organization whose Mental Illness resources are offered and available to those in need. When I was going through my darkest Mental Illness crisis, I did not know what NAMI was or that it was even a place I could go to seek treatment. 2 years after my darkest Mental Illness crisis, I am now on a stable at the moment path and am soaring like an eagle, helping those out there that know they need help and those that might not know they need help. Thank you to NAMI and all Mental Health resources across the world that help others. Shouldn’t we all strive to find a way to help others? However, if our own Mental Health gas tank is empty, we cannot do so effectively. If you know someone that may need to see someone, please make the effort to do so as soon as possible. I almost did not make it through my darkest Mental Illness crisis, let’s not wait to help others because there may be no more tomorrow if not helped..
<p data-rte-preserve-empty="true"
