LTD&K With Me!

At the end of today’s episode, I drop a little hint about a new endeavor I’ve got coming up very soon. I’m calling it the LTD&K: Learn to Design & Knit!

No, I’m not going to teach you how to knit, but rather how to approach a design and then knit it (using the knitting skills you already have).

This is going to be a FREE collection of videos to help you design and then knit a summer tee just in time for the warm weather.

And, of course, we’re going to talk about yarn. You know I’ve got a lovely little discount you can take advantage of, too!

Stay tuned for more updates coming very soon!

I designed the Ewe Heart Hat as a special Valentine’s Day release in collaboration with Ewe Ewe Yarns in 2021. Heather had recently released her Heather’s Heathers yarn, a heathered version of her beloved Wooly Worsted line.

The pattern was, and still is, a free knitting pattern, available in 3 sizes. And Heather has now created the Ewe Heart Hat project kits for our Knitting Intensive.

My Mum, much to my absolute deilght, test-knit the pattern for me. It was one of her first beanies, and it turned out beautifully!

Her version is knit in Cotton Candy Wooly Worsted. Mine is also Cotton Candy, but the Heather’s Heathers line. I love the contrast between the two!

In the Valentine’s Day Knitting Intensive, happening on Friday, February 14, 2025, we will talk about ease, specifically recommended ease for hats, and how working from a chart can make a project like this a breeze!

The Ewe Heart Cowl is worked flat from the bottom up and features my favorite lace heart motif.

The cowl is knit up in Sport weight yarn. I chose my favorite yarn company, Ewe Ewe Yarns, and worked with their Ewe So Sporty yarn for the pattern. The colors are bright and saturated, and the bounciness of the yarn makes it a delight to work with.

The pattern is available on the Ewe Ewe Yarns website or Ravelry.

AND! Heather and I coordinated efforts to develop multiple color options and created yarn kits for the project.

You can purchase the Ewe Heart Cowl yarn kit directly from Ewe Ewe Yarns, which includes the yarn and pattern together.

You can also purchase the pattern through Ravelry and the yarn separately from Heather. You’ll need one ball each of your four favorite colors!

I can’t wait to see what colors you choose to make the cowl uniquely yours!

You bet there is! The topics we’re covering in the course will be in support of three different projects but are skills you’ll be able to translate into any project you want to knit down the road.

Since it IS Valentine’s Day, we’re focusing on three patterns that I’ve designed for Ewe Ewe Yarns over the years: the Ewe Heart Socks, the Ewe Heart Hat, and a brand new mosaic knitting (colorwork) cowl, the Ewe Heart Cowl that was designed just for the course!

Heather has curated some fabulous yarn kits for you to choose from, including a not-to-be-missed notions kit that doesn’t include a single stitch marker (because we all have enough of those)!

SO, WHAT DO I GET IN THE COURSE?

Digital Program: Designed to be worksheet-style, so you can plug in your OWN numbers or colors, the course download will be available as a PDF that you can print out at home to use over and over throughout your knitting journey.

LIVE Sessions: Starting at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET on Friday, February 14th, 2025, we’ll host three breakout sessions covering each topic in the course outline. Each breakout will be just shy of an hour to discuss the topics in that session and will include time for you to ask questions LIVE.
Between Sessions One and Two, we’ll pause for a few minutes to stretch, both physically and mentally. Following Session Two, we’ll take a 1-hour break for snacks or lunch. Then we’ll round out the afternoon with Session Three, with another opportunity to ask us questions on the spot before we set you loose to enjoy your evening and weekend with your head full of new ideas!
**If you cannot attend the sessions live, don’t fret! We will record our sessions and have all three of them available for you to watch (or re-watch) at your convenience!

Community: Heather hosts an incredible online community here: https://community.eweewe.com. This is a free community that we will ask you to sign up for so you can access the course downloads and stay in touch with other course members. It’s all knitting, all the time, and a wonderfully positive place to be! After the course, it will be where we can all come together, cheer each other on, and celebrate our successes!

WHAT IS MY INVESTMENT?

We’re not oblivious to what day we’re hosting this one. It’s definitely intentional. So we thought it would be cute to tie your financial investment into the date a little bit!

To ensure this course is as accessible as possible, the investment is $14.00 USD.

Everything listed above is included in this amount (excluding yarn and notion kits). The recordings of our live sessions will be available in the Community or on YouTube hosted in a private area indefinitely.

So, what happens when i REGISTER FOR THE cOURSE?

Not much, at first! Once you’ve registered for the course, you’ll receive a confirmation email, which is sent to you automatically, along with a reminder link to the Ewe Ewe Yarns community. You’ll want to join the community before the day of the course so you get any updates we push out.

You’ll be sent a link to download the course documents two days before the course.

Then on the morning of the course, you’ll receive a notification that the course is beginning, along with a Zoom Link so you can join us LIVE for the course.

WHERE AND WHEN DO I REGISTER?

The Valentine’s Day Knitting Intensive and yarn kits will be available for purchase beginning on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. **Please note that the course and the yarn kits are sold separately.

You can register and pay for the course HERE.

Ewe Heart Cowl yarn kit (brand new!!!): https://eweewe.com/collections/yarn-kits/products/ewe-heart-cowl-yarn-kit

Ewe Heart Socks yarn kit: https://eweewe.com/collections/yarn-kits/products/ewe-heart-socks-yarn-knitting-kit

Ewe Heart Hat yarn kit: https://eweewe.com/collections/yarn-kits/products/ewe-heart-hat-yarn-knitting-kit

Notion Kits: https://eweewe.com/collections/notions/products/valentines-day-knitting-intensive-notions-kit

You won’t hear much from us between the time you purchase the course and when we go live on Friday, February 14th, but the Ewe Ewe Yarns community will be live immediately so you can get in, get amped about knitting with other folks, and wait (im)patiently for the big day!

I hope to see you there!

Questions?
Is 2025 your year of learning?

At the end of today’s episode, I drop some more details about upcoming classes being offered this year.

In February, I’m co-hosting a great Valentine’s Day Knitting Intensive built for folks who want to learn more about the fundamental knitting skills we use every day. Yep - it’s on Valentine’s Day. Nope, it won’t take up time in your evening that might interfere with other plans. ❤️ Full details are coming in just two days, January 17th, so keep an eye on your inbox!

And this fall, starting in September, I’m hosting a sweater master class. You’ll be able to choose between a textural or colorwork yoke option, and you’ll even be able to put into practice the techniques we learn in today’s episode of Knit Talk. How’s that for nifty?

I hope you’ll join me next month - it’ll be a fun day of learning, live chats, and probably some adorable moments with our crazy dogs!

Do you want to learn something new?

If there is a knitting-related topic you’d like to learn more about, I invite you to head on over to my Knit Talk discussion form. You can submit questions or discussion topics you’d like to see in future episodes of Knit Talk , or you can request a technique tutorial!

Thank you so much for joining me each week!

With love and knitting,

Meaghan

Three INTERCHANGEABLE Knit Collar Styles

Comparing Heights vs. Body Lengths (you may be surprised!)

Are you taller or shorter than the designer of the garment pattern you want to make?

Are you long- or short-bodied?

In today's episode of Knit Talk, we explore ways to add or remove length from a garment so it fits YOUR unique body the way you want it to, no matter your vertical proportions!

Watch this week’s episode here: https://youtu.be/ReRV4cBbUCg

Are you pumped for 2025 yet?

With the holidays swiftly approaching and today’s video capping off the year (I’m heading back to Canada for the holidays), I’m looking ahead to all the knitting joys of 2025!

There are two big things I’m looking forward to next year that I thought I’d sneak onto your radar before I sign off for the year.

In February, I’m partnering with Heather Walpole of Ewe Ewe Yarns (who you’ll spy on in today’s episode, too) to bring you a Valentine’s Day Knitting Intensive. We will cover a wide range of topics, all focused on improving our technique skills and understanding of colorwork, alongside three designed-by-me patterns - socks, a hat, and a gorgeous (mosaic colorwork) cowl. This event will be a one-day digital course (with a break for lunch, naturally) where you’ll learn from us in real time, be able to ask questions, and watch the recaps at your leisure after the event.

In the fall (September-November 2025), I’ll host The Unapologetic Sweater Mastery Course, featuring a top-down circular yoke-style sweater. It’ll be a great way to use many of the skills we’ve discussed over the last two years on my podcast, with me alongside you the whole way through. You’ll have the option of texture vs. colorwork and several different stitch patterns to choose from to make it a one-of-a-kind sweater that will fit YOU and your fabulously perfect and unique body!

Stay tuned for more details on both of these great events in January. And until then, Happy New Year, my friend. May your holidays be merry and your knitting a joy! 🧶

As the cost of fiber has gone up, so has the cost of yarn; as the cost of software to produce patterns has gone up, so has the cost of patterns. It’s a seemingly endless cycle of watching the cost of goods and services increase.

And investing in a master course costs more than investing in a single pattern.

In my experience, however, a good (dare I say ‘great’) master class offers so much more than a single pattern.

I have invested in some not-so-good master classes, where the instructor teased me with information but didn’t give me skills I could walk away with and implement.

I’ve invested in good master classes where the instructor gave us SOME knowledge and then upsold us more classes to give us just a bit more, only to upsell again. It’s vicious.

I believe I have created a master class that stands out, offering you everything you need to be successful and transfer the skills to any other sock pattern you want.
No upsells.

No gimmicks.

Just knitting.

And math. Lots of (fun) math.

So why should you trust me?

Totally fair question. The simplest answer is that I believe YOU can knit ANYTHING, and I’d love to be a part of your learning journey.

But beyond that, I just like to share what I know so that you can share it with someone else. In a world where we experience gatekeeping and “pay to play” at every turn, I want to turn the tide and use it to lift all our proverbial boats.

Ok, if you believe in sharing what you know, why are you asking me to pay for a mastery course?

I don’t feel like I’m asking you to invest in my knowledge - that I’m giving away. What I am asking you to invest in is me and my time.

It has taken me countless hours to put this course together and 10+ years of personal time to feel like I’m truly a sock-knitting guru.

Additionally, you’ll get to walk away with 20 pages of detailed information that you can use time and time again. From the instructions included in those 20 pages, you’ll be able to create a variety of unique socks without needing to invest in another pattern. There are multiple stitch patterns to choose from, and two heels styles, so it’s almost like getting 8+ sock patterns in one.

And you’re going to get at least 4 hours of my time in our live sessions.

And you’re going to have access to me to ask questions for 6 months in our private Facebook group.

Plus, I think you might actually have some fun with me. I love to laugh, and want more than anything for you to enjoy the time you spend with me. If I can be a small part of your journey towards being a more confident knitter, it would be my honor to help you learn more about the craft we love so much.

WHY THIS MASTER CLASS?

I have been a knitter for over 20 years, and more importantly an avid sock knitter for 10+ years. I started obsessing about the fit of socks around 2013 and haven’t quit searching for new and better heel methods, easier ways to approach the numbers, and how to really have fun with socks.

In The Unapologetic Sock Mastery Course, we will explore, in detail, the math you need to know (and the math you can fudge a bit) to achieve socks that fit you or your intended wearer without needing to try them on. And you get to keep it all. For one price.

As part of the course, we’ll have a weekly LIVE session hosted on Zoom, where you can ask me questions in real-time. I think this is what excites me most. I’ll get to talk to you in person to make sure you walk away with your questions answered. I’m not trying to hide behind pre-recorded videos (though, of course, there will be some of those to help you, too).

We’ll also have a private Facebook Group where you can share photos of your WIPs (works in progress) and FOs (finished objects) and ask more questions if necessary. Only course participants will be able to join, so it will be a safe space for you to share about your knitting!

STILL NOT QUITE SURE?

While this will be my first time hosting a digital master course like this, I think I’m pretty darn prepared to share what I know and create a space where you’ll enjoy learning.
You’ll receive three skeins of Ewe Ewe Yarns ‘Fluffy Fingering’ in your selected color.

I like to work from a separate ball for each sock, and have a third available for swatching. On average, I use about 40 grams/160 yards/146 meters of yarn per sock; I wear a US women’s size 6.5 shoe and have a foot circumference of 9”/23 cm.

On average, the swatch I’ll have you knit for the course will use approximately 8-10 grams. With the extra yarn from the ‘swatch skein,’ you can choose to knit multiple swatches to choose your favorite fabric density (I definitely recommend this if you’re brand new to socks), or add length to your sock legs. We want to be sure you have the room to swatch AND knit socks to the length you desire.

the wool wash!

SOAK has long been my preferred no-rinse wool wash. A little goes a long way towards finishing up your knits so they feel brand-spanking-new each time you wash them.

Each kit will include 2 mini-packs of SOAK Scentless. You can use one when you block your swatches and save the second for when you finish your set of socks. OR, you can save both for your knit socks - one to finish them and one to wash them after you’ve worn them (and shown them off to everyone, of course)!

Questions?
