So before I start preaching, enjoy this trailer to get the kick

Okay here’s the synopsis of Baidir.

One morning Nayah is playing hide and seek with her big brother Baidir, when suddenly the room is destroyed and Nayah has disappeared. Baidir sets off on a wild quest in a fantasy world.

Indeed a short synopsis.

Now let me share with you what I’ve learn during university days. Let’s see the montage, parts by parts

This is the first part/Establishing Shot. The set is in the room. You can see the main character, Baidir, and his sister, Nayan painted together at the back of the door. The door opens and papers flying creating a mysterious set and feel. I think this is Baidir Room.

Establishing Shot – The part that will establish the basis of montage/animation. In this case, the basis is in the room ( refer to the synopsis )

You can see a boy/Baidir, is running on this scene. It adds suspense indeed. Why do he run ?

This is the second emphasis that strengthen the synopsis. Here we see an empty room. Notice the design of the first room ( at the first picture above ) and this room. This room designed more colorful and with dolls. Obviously this is Nayah room, and you can see the emptiness. If you see carefully, you can see there’s a picture of Nayah and Baidir above the window.

Okay another running. But now you can see the set. It is set in distant future, and in modern world. This shot taken to emphasize on the speed and action.

Now we could see in detail, the character. Baidir & Nayah. Take a good look of the characteristic in that picture.

And now the character jump, like a Yamakasi/Parkour/Free Running action. Now when we talk about this kind of action, it’s heavily resembles France as this action (Parkour) originates from France. And this production/ Baidir, is from French. Dear Malaysians, this is what it’s mean by Local Content. In a snap, we knew this is France action. It may not from character design but from action. And try to focus on the background later on as you can see the famous identical Eiffel Tower. In this shot we could also see Baidir, as pictured from the previous image ( of him and Nayah )

Now this is the second emphasis to the character design. Notice the character of Nayah and Baidir. Same color when Baidir jumps from the roof. And if you can see the somewhat like a dog in grey at the left, it’s also the same design from the first shot. I’m speculating that dog might be Baidir’s sidekick later on.

And Baidir still jumps, with some birds joining in :p

Now, the trailer introduce Nayah, the girl. See the hair, identical with the sketch.

and Baidir landings, this is the favorite part/camera angle to show Parkour in action.

The previous shot of Nayah zoomed out. You can see her inside some sort of fantasy castle and using the premise of “ I’m a princess so come and save me my hero”

I think this shot/action is what defines their synopsis, ” wild quest”.Nothing beats more than a flashy entrance from top…

.. plus some smokes like a Ninja / Naruto. But this action for me resembles Uchiha Sasuke. The reason I said like that because of the gloves and the muffler covering up to his mouth does resembles him, it’s just me. Anyway, the movement of the character here is pretty deep. Felt that he’s some sort of a pretty strong character.

Finally, we see Baidir, somewhat emotionless.

Off course, he’s now at the fantasy world, wondering where he have to start.

The Recipe

Now, if you see carefully from beginning of the teaser, this teaser use A-B-A formula. Room – Baidir running – Nayah room- Baidir running – Nayah’s pasteboard shows her with baidir – baidir jumping – zoom in pasteboard Nayah + baidir – baidir still jumping side view – Nayah alone – Baidir going down – Nayah zoomed out in a castle – Baidir lands + some smoke + seriousness + in a fantasy world.

If you have sharp ears, try listen to the early beats and listen to the arrangements that they use to ‘cut’ to follow A-B-A formula. Thanks to my lecturer, Mr Ghaz ( Ponti Anak Remaja ) and Mr Woo Ming Jin (Salon / Slovak Sling – 15 Malaysia ) one piece of advice – Cut through the beat.

They did an extremely good teaser that tease the audience to know more. Now if you’re going to do a teaser, make sure it follow all this patterns + mise en scene. Mise en scene is what helps you define the set and story without telling a single word to the audience, and it’s easily understood. See for every caption I commented on each picture/shot, I did explain the importance of the set and item at the current shot. Actually, composing a teaser/MTV’s much more harder than series/movies because you compress all the things you want to say in an extremely limited time.

Now I’m glued to this Baidir project. Hope it goes well. Can’t wait to see the series. 2D is making it’s comeback indeed. See their website – Baidir.

Credits to Zufar, my fellow groupmate in MTV assignment during MMU years to give me this trailer. He currently working on War of The Worlds: Goliath created by Tripod Entertainment.

If you like this article, consider to follow Flavert on Twitter for more updates

Yesterday, there’s tonnes of big things announced in Adobe Max 2009. The big thing is the announcement about Adobe AIR 2.0, Flash 10.1 and yes, Flash Apps to the iPhone. And check out this funny Adobe MythHackers

Hahah! take that apple. So here’s some quickie updates about Flash that was announced during Adobe MAX 2009

Flash 10.1

- 50% reduction on RAM Usage

- possibilities for accelerometer and social networking.

- Major phone manufacturer join in to deploy flash on their devices.

- Google and RIM joined Open Screen Project. Means there will be Flash for Android and Blackberry.

- handles gesture, multitouch application

AIR 2.0

- USB Storage device detection

- performance increases

- native installer support

- socket servers

- UDP support

- increased accessibility

Flash to iPhone

- In next Flash Pro CS5

- Publish a Flash file to iPhone native code/apps. From the publish setting and that’s it.

- not breaching any laws. still need to pay for developer license from Apple to put on AppStore.

- Safari iPhone still not supporting Flash. Just that this means you can publish your Flash Apps to run on the iPhone.

In short, we need just to port our available projects or goodies to iPhone native apps, when Flash CS5 released. This means wider reach to the client. As example we’ve did TryMasak/Geoflex that feature an online Flash Game and Flash Lite format for mobile. With Flash CS5 enables developer to publish as iPhone native apps, we see it as another platform to publish TryMasak Game to the iPhone.

Talking about AIR 2.0 that support USB device detection, I was thinking on Poken-AIR-Apps if that possible. Didn’t know Poken? clicky here.

We actually couldn’t deny the hype of iPhone ( I mean look at where the apps were going ) and it’s tempting to make a jump to iPhone platform. But with this chart, it’s still promising for Flash Lite. With invention of Flash Lite 4, means it will become more faster. Afterall Flash Lite 4 said to support ActionScript 3.0

This is source from Dave Young

==

The most surprising bit was Flash Lite 4.0. Most developers I talked to thought Flash Lite 3.x is the last version of Flash Lite. As it turns out, FL4 is planned while Flash 10 for devices is also in the making.

According to Mark, Flash Lite 4.0 supports ActionScript 3, and it is a browser plugin (i.e. not standalone player). Same for Flash Player 10 for devices – a browser plugin (in his slide it was showing 10.1 in Device Central 3). AIR for mobile is the standalone player.

Flash Lite 4.0 is for slower, less powerful and memory-constraint devices, and Flash 10 is for more powerful devices, possibly with hardware graphics acceleration.

Mark also shown Device Central 3. It supports some hardware emulation such as accelerometer and geolocation. Custom device profiles can also be created easily in Device Central 3.

Another upcoming tool is SWFPack, a mobile packager (created in AIR) for S60 3rd edition and up, and Windows Mobile 5 & 6. It builds deployment bits (.sis and .cab) for the two platforms with just a few clicks.

Update: Mark clarified that “(Flash Lite 4 is) targeted as a browser plugin and standalone player for brew devices.”

At the Samsung booth, I had the chance to play with the Omnia II (to be released later this year). The 3.7″ AMOLED screen at 480×800 is simply the most beautiful device screen I’ve seen to-date. This phone’s OS is Windows Mobile 6.5, and Samsung has implemented a much nicer UI (TouchWiz 2.0) that reminds me a bit of the Android interface. Overall operation seems quite decent, although I’m not a big fan of the haptic touchscreen. Apparently the Omnia II has 2 CPUs, one for radio frequency, and one for UI and apps. And it has a dedicated graphics accelerator. There was also an Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy. Unfortunately, both phones don’t have the standalone Flash player, but there is supposed to be a “hidden” Flash Lite player without exposed public API for things like widgets.

==

To those who didn’t know, Flash Lite is a Flash Player for Mobile Devices, a lightweight version of Flash that’s available for desktop.

Talking about 2010.. it’s just another 3 months. Work hard guys!

New Content Protection Solution Expands Reach of Premium Video to Adobe Flash Player

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — Sept. 11, 2009 — At the 2009 IBC tradeshow in Amsterdam, Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® Flash® Access 2.0, a key component of the Adobe Flash Platform.

Flash Access 2.0, previously known as Adobe Flash Media Rights Management Server, is a scalable, flexible content protection solution that enables the distribution and monetization of premium content, which can create new sources of revenue for media publishers.

New in this release, content protected with Flash Access 2.0 will play back securely on an upcoming version of Adobe Flash Player software – the cross-operating system browser plug-in that is available on more than 98 percent of Internet-connected desktops worldwide.

Scheduled to ship early next year, Adobe Flash Access 2.0 will provide robust protection of audiovisual content and flexible usage rules to support a wide range of business models, including electronic sell-through, rental and video on-demand, for streaming or download. Adobe will demonstrate Flash Access 2.0 during the IBC 2009 Exhibition at its stand (Hall 7, Stand 721) in the RAI Convention Center, September 7-11.

“As the No. 1 software for delivering video on the Web, the Adobe Flash Platform has enabled millions of users to enjoy high-quality content,” said Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe. “With Adobe Flash Access 2.0, media publishers can rely on robust protection for premium content to support new, emerging business models for rich, interactive online experiences.”

Unprecedented Reach and Flexibility

Media companies are continuing to introduce new ways to connect users with premium content via online distribution channels. In order to create sustainable business models, these companies must find the right balance between access to and control over their content. Flash Access 2.0 provides a way to combine the unprecedented reach and interactivity of the Adobe Flash Platform with robust security and flexible usage rules so that businesses can enforce necessary constraints, such as limiting viewing to a given rental period.

“At Warner Bros., we are always looking for innovative ways to enable our audiences to enjoy online video, yet we also need to control and protect our unique media assets,” said Darcy Antonellis, president of Technical Operations for Warner Bros.. “We welcome the development of Adobe Flash Access, which will help create new possibilities for content distributors to deliver Warner Bros. movies securely to the Flash Player and further expand high-quality access to our entertainment online.”

Enterprises and educational institutions can also use Flash Access 2.0 to build solutions that meet their content protection needs, enabling them to distribute audiovisual content such as training material and corporate communications securely to employees, customers or partners.

Robust Protection for Premium Content

Using industry-standard cryptography, Adobe Flash Access 2.0 will provide a robust environment to protect content so it remains safe from tampering or capture throughout its lifecycle. Content can be securely bound to an individual device or to a domain, which may represent a household. Flash Access 2.0 now supports output protection, enabling content providers to specify requirements for protection of analog and digital outputs, providing additional safeguards against unauthorized recording.

Flash Access 2.0 supports distribution of standards-based MPEG 4 (H.264) content as well as the FLV file format through a variety of distribution mechanisms, including progressive download, streaming and download for local playback. Protected content can also be played back in rich Internet applications (RIAs) that run outside the browser using Adobe AIR™. Developers can create cross-operating system RIA solutions with Adobe AIR that include local libraries of content, advanced download managers, and highly interactive user interfaces.

Ease of Deployment and Integration

Adobe Flash Access 2.0 is offered as a Software Development Kit, enabling Internet-scale deployments and ease of integration into existing software and services such as order management, subscription databases, access control, and LDAP-based Active Directories. Flash Access will also be available as a Software as a Service (SaaS) through a number of Adobe partners that will offer hosted content protection solutions, leveraging their infrastructure across multiple clients and reducing time to market for content providers.

No. 1 Platform for Delivering Video on the Web
The Adobe Flash Platform is a complete system of integrated tools, frameworks, clients and servers for the development of Web applications, content and video that runs consistently across operating systems and devices. Adobe Flash Player is on over 98 percent of connected computers and delivers approximately 80 percent of Web video worldwide. Major broadcasters and media companies including BBC, Disney.com, HULU and PBS utilize the Flash Platform to deliver video on demand and streaming content to viewers around the world. Flash technology is also used to deliver online streaming events on MLB.com and DirectTV and the platform powers social networks sites YouTube and MySpace.

Availability

Adobe Flash Access is planned for commercial availability the first half of 2010.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — July 22, 2009 - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced two new Adobe® Flash® Platform open source initiatives for developers, media companies and publishers. Open Source Media Framework (OSMF), part of the project previously code named Strobe, enables developers to quickly and easily build more robust, feature-rich media players optimized for the Adobe Flash Platform.

The Text Layout Framework (TLF) will help developers bring sophisticated typography capabilities to Web applications. Both OSMF and TLF are now freely available as open source software, helping content owners extend their online media efforts as they look to create new business opportunities and monetization strategies for publishing on the Web.
Establishing an Open Industry Standard for Media Player Development

• OSMF is the open source part of the Strobe project that enables easy-to-build media players optimized for the Adobe Flash Platform.

• The flexible OSMF architecture enables developers to easily create unique playback experiences that can leverage plug-ins for advertising, reporting metrics and content delivery along with standard video player features such as playback controls, video navigation, buffering and Dynamic Streaming. OSMF provides standard functionality along with plug-ins from third parties so content providers have the flexibility to adapt monetization strategies to specific content and the needs of their audiences.

• OSMF includes an API for partners to build plug-ins for value-add services. OSMF will enable more innovation around media experiences on the Web by allowing partners to easily experiment with new services for content providers, which spans content delivery, presentation and monetization.

• OSMF source code and pluggable software components are available immediately under the Mozilla Public License and available at www.OpenSourceMediaFramework.com.

Adobe and Akamai Collaborate on Open Video Player

• Akamai has joined Adobe to advance the industry toward a widely adopted, cohesive standard for media players that support Adobe Flash Platform technologies. Akamai and Adobe are collaborating on the Open Video Player initiative, previously founded by Akamai, and the release of OSMF technologies. The goal is to ensure a consistent framework for media player development that enables developers, publishers, content owners, corporations and others to more quickly and easily build new video players that create and sustain profitable new business models. By providing all the components for media player development, the combined efforts will help strengthen the industry shift towards open standards.

Text Layout Framework Leverages Adobe’s Legendary Publishing Expertise

• TLF goes beyond what is possible for Web text layout using HTML and CSS technologies today, with support for complex languages, bidirectional text, multi-columns and other advanced typographical features and controls. TLF is an extensible ActionScript® library built on top of the text engine in Adobe Flash Player 10 and Adobe® AIR® 1.5 software. Source code and component library for TLF are available as open source at no charge under the Mozilla Public License at http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/tlf/.

Examples of TLF in action:
• The New York Times TimesReader 2.0 and The Boston Globe’s GlobeReader — Powered by Adobe AIR, TimesReader 2.0 and GlobeReader leverage the text reflow capabilities, multiple columns and top-notch typography features of TLF.
• Acrobat.com Presentations — A new service from Adobe that provides people with a better way to create, edit and share presentations together online. Built on the Adobe Flash Platform, Acrobat.com Presentations looks and behaves like a desktop presentation application but operates inside a Web browser. The open source TLF is used for all the text objects in the slides.
• makebook — makebook makes extensive use of TLF for functionality such as multi-column text flows and automatic text wrapping around inline images to deliver an online, creative authoring network that makes it easy for users to write, share work with family and friends and then publish online worldwide.
Quotes

• Dave McAllister, director of standards and open source, Adobe Systems
“Adobe is committed to providing core Flash Platform technologies to the community as open source,” said Dave McAllister, director of standards and open source at Adobe. “By releasing OSMF and TLF as open source, we are helping facilitate the creation and sharing of best practices for media players and rich text-based Web application development. We believe these efforts will strengthen the industry and lead to the next generation of Web applications, content and video experiences.”

• Tim Napoleon, Chief Strategist, Digital Media, Akamai
“Open Source Media Framework complements and solidifies Akamai’s Open Video Player initiative,” said Tim Napoleon, chief strategist, of digital media at Akamai. “OSMF leverages code from Akamai’s Open Video Player and Adobe’s expertise and resources to assist media companies and publishers in redefining the benchmarks for online video experiences that are powered by standards based workflows.”

• Mark Stanley, founder of makebook
“APIs that are standard in the open source Text Layout Framework from Adobe gave us a jumpstart as we leveraged the high-end components for makebook.com,” said Mark Stanley, founder of makebook. “With TLF we can more easily provide our customers with quality typography features and the text layout control they require for their self-publishing projects.”

Adobe Flash Platform

The Adobe Flash Platform is a complete system of integrated tools, frameworks, clients, and servers for the development of Web applications, content and video that run consistently across operating systems and devices. Adobe Flash Player content reaches over 98 percent of Internet-enabled desktops, and the latest version, Flash Player 10, has been installed on more than 86 percent of computers worldwide in just the first seven months since its initial release. Additionally, Adobe Flash technology is the No.1 platform for video on the Web. Major broadcasters and media companies including Disney.com, MLB.com and DIRECTV are already using the Adobe Flash Platform for delivering video on the Web and the platform powers social networks sites YouTube and MySpace.
