I am Not Good in Writing But I Want To be a Writer, How To Do That?

Alright, for myself, I am doing below these three simple things, and I find that they work great for me. I share them with you here, hope you find it helpful to you too in which to help you improve your writing skill and achieve explode your business.

1. Keeping a Journal

You may doubt this method, but believe me – the results of keeping a journal will probably amaze you after only a couple months. It is not only makes you a better writer, it will also make you a happier person.

In regards to writing, there’s one thing that is certain: the more you do it, practice the writing, the better you become at it. You don’t need anyone correcting what you’ve written either. All you need to do is to write every day, after time being, you will develop a solid style and voice of your own.

Don’t just plan to write – write. Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about too. It is only by writing, not dreaming about it, that you develop your own style.

In the other words, when you keep a journal, you can basically write about anything, anything that you wanted to write about, such as keep your thoughts organized, the way your day went, how it goes, what’s happening with your family, what’s going on with your work life and etc. The key point here is to simply write.

On the other hand, if you have a lot of writing to do for your business, like writing articles, blogs, eBooks and so forth, then you can skip the journal writing for that day.

No matter how and what your own schedule will be look like, just remember the important thing for you to do is to write every day, whether it’s for your journal or for your business.

2. Write at the Same Time Everyday

Being disciplined, you know that you need to write every day and write it at the same time.

Treat writing as a job. Be disciplined. Lots of writers get a bit OCD-ish about this. Graham Greene famously wrote 500 words a day. Jean Plaidy managed 5,000 before lunch, and then spent the afternoon answering fan mail. My minimum is 500 words a day – which is sometimes easy to achieve, and is sometimes, frankly, like shitting a brick, but I will make myself stay at my desk until I’ve got there, because I know that by doing it I am inching the book forward. Those 500 words might well be rubbish – they often are. But then, it is always easier to return to rubbish words at a later date and make them better.

By doing this, it can actually train your brain and let it get into the mode of writing, so don’t make yourself have any uncomfortable or pressure feeling of doing it.

Authors refer to this as “capturing the muse” because they realized that if they write at the same time every day, then they will be inspired to write, and the “muse” will bring them the inspiration to write well.

So don’t look back until you’ve written an entire draft, just begin each day from the last sentence you wrote the preceding day. This prevents those cringing feelings, and means that you have a substantial body of work before you get down to the real work which is all in – the edit.

Write at the same time everyday method will help you find that your mind gets trained, which helps you write what you need to write.

3. Follow a Proven Formula

If you have a talent for writing, you probably don’t need to follow a set formula. In fact, you might even be opposed to formulas. But for the rest of us, formulas are a good thing as long as they don’t completely handcuff our creativity, which means should have an outline.

Hove your outline and then cling to it as a lifeline. You can adjust it in mid-stream, but don’t try to just write your way into a better structure: think about the right structure and then write to it. Your outline will get you through those periods when you can’t possibly imagine ever finishing the damn thing — at those times, your outline will let you see it as a sequence of manageable 500 word sections.

The basic form that you have to remember for any writing is to have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
The introduction will introduce what will be discussed. The body will discuss everything as promised, and the conclusion will restate the introduction (in a different way) while telling the readers what they just read.

However, if you get stuck, get away from your desk. Take a walk, take a bath, go to sleep, make a pie, draw, listen to music, meditate, exercise; whatever you do, don’t just stick there scowling at the problem. But don’t make telephone calls or go to a party; if you do, other people’s words will pour in where your lost words should be. Open a gap for them, create a space, and be patient.

Thus, to become a better writer, there are three things you need to do – keeping a journal, writing it at the same time every day, and following a formula.

Follow above these three tips, practice your writing with joy and pleasure, and then you will writing faster, writing better in no time.

Read that again, because fully understanding that deceptively simple sentence is crucial to the bottom line of your business. If you can’t establish trust, you can’t make sales. Period.

You’ve heard that before. And while you can grow plenty of other things (vegetables, your hair, sea monkeys), maybe the whole idea of growing your business has so far eluded you.

You can get traffic to your website or your offline store, you can make sales. I learnt it the hard way but you don’t have to. Below is a fact list that I put together about what they didn’t tell you about blogging for newbies, hope you find it helpful.

1. Blogging is easy to start but hard to maintain because it needs you to feed it with fresh content.
2. People expect consistently good content, if you can’t provided that, quality readers walk away.
3. You can extend your brand via the blog but it is hard to build a brand by blogging.
4. Blogging is an addiction and sometimes it can be serious.
5. If you want to succeed, you HAVE to start making others succeed first.
6. You don’t climb up by pulling down other people.
7. It takes time to produce “Timeless Content.” But “timeless content” produces results (traffic included) in the long run.
8. Traffic is important but “Quality” traffic is more important.
9. Never ask for links.
10. Using the right tools is VERY important to get the right feedback.

11. Don’t apply the rule of reciprocation to blogs.

1. If you started blogging because it seemed cool, you may be struggling or suffering to continue the effort.

However, if after you try so hard and you find yourself not having fun with blogging, you might want to revisit your decision and see if blogging is really for you. Otherwise, your blog will end up in the blogging graveyard, sooner than later.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I know many people do that, I do it sometime but not all the time, in fact, I am not big on New Year’s resolutions because it is too easy to break. I like to do goal setting and feel it’s one of the keys to success.

Every blogger, business person, marketer, or students has his or her own ultimate goal. If the goal is set up too big, it usually takes time to achieve it. Thus to help you successfully achieve that journey along the way in 2012, follow below these actionable steps will help get you there.

Write Down that Simple Marketing Plan on Your Notebook

Marketing is what separates the big blogs from the small ones. To build a big blog, it takes a lot more than just good content. If your blog is not where you want it to be, ask yourself what you’ve been doing to market it? Great content is only half the formula. You have to get your blog name out there. That means you have to create a marketing plan.

I would suggest you to investing in a nice notebook first, and by “notebook,” I don’t mean a computer, but an old-fashioned paper notebook with plain, unlined white paper. Any brand will do, myself, I like Moleskine, you can find it in bigger bookstores. I like them because the quality and craftsmanship of these notebooks make using them delightful. It makes you feel good and also make you feel you want to write stuff on it.

Then put that notebook into your bag, carry it with your at all times, and write down your thoughts, insights and ideas when they occur. And at least once a month, review your notebook, as previous ideas often spark new ones. By doing that, you can always get some good new content for your next blog.

The more ideas you have, the more likely it is that you’ll have some great ideas. A reasonable goal for ideas is to create eight every workday. If that number scares you, remember that these ideas don’t have to be reasonable, feasible, or fully thought-out. And if you come up with eight ideas each workday, at the end of the year you will have had more than 2,000 ideas, some of which are likely to be very good ones. How cool is that?

For the marketing plan, you don’t have to write tons of pages like a MBA student does, a simple one will do the work. Write down the questions of ‘What’, ‘Why’, ‘How’ to your notebook and then draw out the answers.

Start a Question List On the First Page of Your Notebook

You can name it whatever you want, like use ‘My Blogging Journey 2012′, and then write that “My Blogging Journey 2012 List” at the top. Under that, write those things based on the category of your work and also in your private life.

Why your private life need to includes in the list? Because you need a work-life-balance lifestyle. Just work without having a balanced fun life, the work will become boring and you will not feel good of it too.

Each item on your List is a creative challenge for you in the year 2012. For instance, if one of your list is, “I’m annoyed that my blog conversion for the year is too low,” you can easily turn it into a creative challenge by making it a “How to?” question: “How to boost the traffic to achieve higher conversion rate?” Throughout the year, review your “My Blogging Journey 2012 List”. Add new things to it and turn your blogging journey into creative challenges.

As you know, blogging is all about forming relationships. There’s the relationship between you and the readers, and relationship between you and other blogs in your niche. So make a commitment to get to know them in 2012. At the same time, also find the ways to let your readers know you – create the page and Tell YOUR story to the world.

You can through tell your readers story about you towards where did you come from? What are your goals and dreams? What one thing could you do in your personal and professional life that, if you did on a regular basis, would make a tremendous positive difference in your life? And also introduce some of your family members to them. The more the readers know about you, the more they’ll connect with you and trust you.

Imagine and Daydream, Be Serious and Take more Action

Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”

Remember what he said in the year ahead, take time out regularly to imagine solutions to your challenges. Daydream for a few minutes, and allow your imagination take you anywhere it wants to go. When you return to reality, use what you imagined to stimulate your creativity. And always, always write your ideas and insights in your notebook.

Innovation is Creativity Plus Action

You might heard so many people talking about innovation. Innovation is the process by which an idea or invention is translated into a good or service for which people will pay, or something that results from this process. It is like no matter how many creative ideas you come up with, you won’t change the world unless you take action on your ideas.

So each month, look into your notebook, take action on one of your ideas and turn it into a creative project or product (ebook, seminar cd bundle, or audio course etc). When the time comes to the end of the year, you will have 12 creative projects or products under your belt. Is that a great achievement? I think so.

At the beginning it might not that easy, but after while, the more creative projects you perform, the easier they get.

Finally, let’s recap the famous SMART Formula to Goal Setting

S – specific, significant, stretching, and asking the 6W: who, what, where, when, why and which.

M – measurable, meaningful, motivational.

A – agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented. Ask yourself about what attitudes, abilities, skills and financial capacity do you need to achieve your goal?

R – realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented. A goal has to be realistic. If you set it too high, that’s mean you are going to living in the bubble.

T – time-based, timely, tangible, track-able – Have a time limit goal is the best, not ‘Some day’ type of goal, it is not good enough.

2012 has just started. Now is the time to write down your goals and map out your journey. I really believe that every obstacle you are going to face along the way is to prepare you for the next bigger greater thing. It’s there to teach you a lesson and help you grow. Once you understand the lesson, you’ll be able to move forward stronger and wiser and your next obstacle would be smaller and easier to overcome.

So things to remember – it’s not the final destination that is important, it’s the journey along the way. Do enjoy the raid, set up a bunch of mini goals and reward yourself along the way. See you at the top!

My answer will be it depends on – what is good for one is not good for all. It really depends on individual needs, comfort level, budget, and more so, what you are looking for/looking to get out of your blog.

As far as personal blogging goes, or if you are doing it just for fun, having the convenience of not managing a hosting account, platform updates, theme maintenance etc, using free blogging service can be nice.

But if you are going to invest time and energy in a new blog, you want to own your content. And if you are looking to blog for business, as a professional, you should definitely get a self hosted WordPress blog.

Myself, I love using SelfHosted the WP platform to manage the content for websites; here are the few main reasons:

• WordPress is not just for your business blog but it is for your entire business website.
• It is very user friendly, you can do your own content updating to your blog.
• It is just flexible, powerful and you can have full control of your blogs.
• WordPress is free and easy to update to the latest version (1 click only).
• There are also tens-of-thousands of free templates you could use, or buy a Professional Template.
• WordPress is used on more than 20 million sites across the Internet and you will never have to worry about outgrowing the platform, sure you may outgrow your server but that it an easy upgrade or fix compared to moving your blog content from some other less standard platform.
• You can use WordPress to open an online store, set up a discussion group or forum or even a Social Site.
• WordPress has the best SEO. You can customize them but need to know CSS for advanced customization.

Well, the downside is there is probably more of a learning curve with WordPress. It is easy once you get the hang of it. However, getting your own WP site set up, building the right theme and learning how to use the content management system really take some of your time. But it is well worth it.

Another thing is when you are using WordPress, you just need to be diligent about updating when new updates happen. You also need to be careful about What Plugins you use since there are many scripts crawling the web looking for old WP installations and weak plugins in which are open to hackers.

For using the free blogging platform, on the other hand, it means having your content hosted on another network, it is risky for your business because once they changed the rule, if your content doesn’t meet up with their standards or TOS, and they might just shut it down. I knew some SEO bloggers on Blogger.com that lost their content and comments because certain aspects of SEO no longer met with Blogger’s TOS.

Plus, when you hosting your site on other networks, you lose that functionality to have lead generation through a mailing list; or even simple control of changing certain design features. So it definitely not a good thing for a business!

So still can’t decide which platform is right for you? If it is the case, then you should look into below these few things;

• Is the blog that you are going to set up is for business or pleasure (personal)?
• Is SEO a necessity or is it that you just want to share info with your family and it doesn’t matter if your content can be found on the web?
• Are you familiar with the computer and the internet? (Many of people are older and scared to death so they go with Blogger to ease into it).
