Install oracle java 7 in ubuntu 12.04

Firstly, I don't take credit of this.

I was in need to install java on a new Ubuntu instance in Amazon Web Services.

I found these commands after a long searching and was unaware that Ubuntu needs a special treatment to install Java.

To install Java you can use following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

You can check the java version by searching java in dashboard.

If you run:

file /etc/alternatives/java /etc/alternatives/javac

You will get output something like :

/etc/alternatives/java: symbolic link to `/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java'
/etc/alternatives/javac: symbolic link to `/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/bin/javac'

Which obviously means you have Java version 7 installed.

This assumes the "alternatives" system is working properly, which might not be the case, depending on how Java has been "messed up" in the past. To check this, run:

file `which java javac`

Which will show the path where Java is installed.

Transfer data from Amazon S3 to Glacier without using any third party tool

Amazon Web Services provide several options for cloud storage including AWS S3 and AWS Glacier. AWS Glacier is a cheaper archival and it takes 4-5 hours to make an archive available. In comparison to Amazon Glacier, archive service, AWS S3 enables faster retrieval of stored objects. AWS allow you to set the Glacier archive and retrieval policies for S3 objects.

This guide shows how you can set a policy to archive S3 objects on Glacier and to restore it back.

1. Login to your Amazon AWS account UI console. and enter S3 section tab.

2. Below is a listing of a sample bucket, named “copy-data-glacier”.

3. Select the bucket “Properties” and enter the tab “Lifecycle” in the properties box. Click “Add Rule” (to add a rule to archive data to Glacier).

4. In the prefix either specify the name of the file or the name of the folder which you want to archive. To enable the archival policy, click “Add Transition”. The “Add Expiration” button will set the rule for object expiration as explained here.

5. For “Time Period Format”, select the option “Days from the creation date”. It requires to enter the number of days S3 should wait from object’s creation date before archiving an object to Glacier. Provide an integer number.

6. If “Date” option is selected in “Time Period Format”, S3 will require a date on which the object will be archived to Glacier.

7. If you want to archive object immediately, enter days as “0”. As shown below, for the folder “CFGuide” in the bucket we have set a rule for Amazon S3 to immediately transition all objects of the folder to the Glacier storage class.

8. The above policy may not move the object immediately to Glacier but it will move them to the Glacier storage class when the Glacier process is executed, once a day.

9. The rules, once set for a bucket, will be available for modification under the “Lifecycle” tab of the bucket.

10. If you want to modify the rule, click “Modify” and edit the rule.

11. When the Glacier process will run it will archive the object of the folder specified into Glacier.

12. After archival, the Storage class of an object will change to Glacier.

13. The above object will not appear in any vault on the Glacier console and will be visible only from S3 console. They will be charged as per Glacier storage since their Storage class is Glacier.

Restore

14. To restore the archived object select one of the objects (archives) from the list shown in step #12 and right click. Click “Initiate Restore”.

15. On the pop up page, provide the number of days you want the archive to be available. Click “Ok” to start the restore process.

16. Once the restore process is started, and until the archive is available for restore it will show “Restoration in Progress” as marked below. Usually it takes 3-5 hours to complete the process.

17. Once the object is restored, the status under “Properties” will display the date until which that object will be available in RRS (Reduced Redundancy Storage).

Windows Azure:

When you hear word windows you imagine an operating system which you can install on your machine wisely, of course a legal one.

We had already many versions of Windows, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 7 and recent Windows 8.

All of these versions you are able to install on your system and start playing with it.

But, Windows Azure is something different. Yes, it is an operating system. But this operating system you cannot install on your standalone system.

So what is Windows Azure ?

From Microsoft you will find following definition for Azure.

The Azure is an internet-scale cloud services platform hosted in Microsoft data centers, which provides an operating system and a set of developer services that can be used individually or together.

They (Microsoft) call it as windows azure Fabric.

In simple words, Imagine Windows azure as an BOX where you can install many systems with say Windows server OS (It’s an absolute infrastructural view).

Now what Azure does is it internally manages all instances. You can imagine an Instance like similar to a standalone desktop system.

We already have a system which is running on a server OS, So why we need azure?

Well the answer is we need it to manage the all the instances. For example say you have simple web server. Now we can have maximum availability if we have more than 1 web server and incoming traffic is load balanced across instances. Here the activities such as load balancing, High Availability, Scalability etc. are controlled and governed by Azure internally.

So summarizing people in general call it as cloud OS.

Azure’s flexible and interoperable platform can be used to build new applications to run from the cloud or enhance existing applications with cloud-based capabilities.

Azure reduces the need for up-front technology purchases.

Azure simplifies maintaining and operating applications by providing on-demand compute and storage to host, scale, and manage web and connected applications.

Azure provides support for the following protocols:

1. HTTP

2. REST

3. SOAP

4. XML

And many more internet protocols.

Azure provides 2 types of services:

1. PAAS (Platform as a Service)

2. IAAS (Infrastructure as a Service)

How to buy a Laptop

These are some Guidelines before you buy a laptop

#.Decide the purpose of buying laptop. I mean why you want to use it ?
Is it only for playing games, surfing and watching movies ?

There might be many reasons to buy a laptop, some which I consider are given below:

1. For Fun and Entertainment:
If you want to buy for fun then you can choose variety of good laptops. Here speed and performance does hardly matters. So you can choose high end products which are stunning in looks for example sony vaio.
I personally feel its an high end laptop and if you don't want to consider performance and ready to pay for looks this the one you are looking for. Well there are other brands as well but for better looks go for sony Vaio.

2.For Educational purpose:
This is one an student is looking for. Most people consider student doesn't need an high performance laptop as they consider being a student you just need it for gathering information. I agree with those people but in addition if he student is an engineering student then he might need something extra. He should be able to run programmes such as Visual Studio as well as eclipse and net-beans at a time and may be he needed to open browser and other documents simultaneously. So I personally request you to go for 3 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, 1300MHZ FSB, and an Core 2 duo at least. I will prefer HP/Compaq fr this purpose which wil save cost and better performance.

3. For business purpose:
For a business purpose you may need a good battery back up as well as a good processor such as any AMD processor and an ample amount of storage available. I am emphasising AMD as it is an high performance processor and it adds more to the cost of it. An 14 inch screen would be a plus as it is easy to carry and portable.

These are some Reasons...But what you need to understand about the architecture and performance of the laptop ???

There are few hing which one should remember:
RAM not always decides the performance of the system.
If I have 2 laptops A and B.
Configuration of A: Core 2 duo processor 2 GHZ, 1 GB ram, 1100 MHZ FSB, 320 GB HDD.
Configuration of B: Dual Core processor 2.2 GHZ, 2 GB ram, 800 MHZ FSB, 320 GB hDD.
The laptop A runs with same speed almost with laptop A. Why??
Please consider FSB Front Side Bus too before purchasing a laptop. If it has got more speed the data between processor and RAM will move faster. So here both processor and FSB matters.
Also performance wise Core 2 Duo is 1.5 times faster than Dual core processors.

How to make RoadRash run smoothly on Windows 7

As the title itself indicated I am talking about the famous game of my childhood "RoadRash".
Did you tried to install the game on windows 7 ?
Oh if yes then I must not wonder, installing is quite easy.
But the real problem is when you start the game you will not be able to see the things clearly as the configurations is likely in 16 colors and unclear.
You can clearly see Its me at 15 th Rank and Player name "Aditya". I just took a screenshot.

So now what is the solution ?

After finding a little I got a solution.
Follow the steps given below

1.Open task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
2. Go to process tab.
3.Find process named "Explorer.exe"
4.End this process (Your desktop will disappear, Don't worry you can get it back once you finish the game).
5.Now go to file menu of task manager click on New task(Run).
6.Type desktop press Enter. My computer window with root directory as desktop will open up.
7.Locate your Roadrash installed file. Double click it (Start it).

That's it Enjoy your old game and lighten your childhood memories.

When you finish your game you need to start explorer.exe which you killed earlier.
1.Open task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
2.Now go to file menu of task manager click on New task(Run).
3.Type explorer and press Enter.

Your desktop will reappear.

Hope this trick works well.

If some one is being given something for free, anyone will want air tickets to any destination in the United States?
Yes!!
This is the way they do it in a specific unauthentic way.

The messages spreading across Facebook is like "Southwest Airlines is offering free tickets in a marketing promotion."

Sounds good ??? doesn't it? So can you imagine? what happens if you click on the link?

The webpage you are redirected, tells you that to be eligible, you have to share the link with your Facebook friends, adding the words

"Southwest is the best Airline"

as a comment.

In an online investigation the investigators used an research account on FB and shared the link without the comment as described above

Hmm.....so what happens now?
Seems like it doesn't make any difference even if we break the rules?
Doesn't it was easy?
Well hats off to the investigators!!

Be aware be alert is the only key if you want to keep yourself out of it.

Facebook to start charging? It's all fake!!!!

So what if Facebook start charging to end user just for their new profile look and user interface improved?

No, I don't think so.

Its just like a scam spreading which usually happens on social networking sites.

It's poppycock for sure. One should ask ourselves why did Facebook need to charge its users for using their service? Well the if you think logically the answer is no as they are already earning by their advertisers a lot.

See FaceBook's login page carefully it is clearly written that FB is free and it always will be.

It is really not the first time that Facebook users are been updated with these status updates and private messages. Eg, earlier this season, Things were spreaded stating because the social network had bottleneck as the site was considering deleting inactive accounts. Again, totally Faltu.

Is windows 8 is safe ?

Microsoft a giant is supposed to design a new user interface for so called Windows 8.

Well I am not fro Microsoft neither I am aware about they Build versions.

In terms of a developers perspective what you consider is the productivity and not the GUI.

There is no use of developing GUI just like Vista did and failed massively. Vista failed because it was lacking in terms of its light weightless.

The interface of win 8 as shown by official looks like an video game GUI.

Metro is the thing which is actually introduced with win 8. Well in simple language you will interacting with the full screen interface.

So one will not be able to see scroll bars like expandable view. Well that sounds cool but is it really?

Everyone has to be aware this should not lead to a new shareware/fake anti-virus attacks.
What the hacked do is they will force you to download a software forcibly. well they can do it by floating a pop-up window indicating "Detected Threats on your computer"
Now it will ask you to remove them. But when you click on remove button it will redirect you to a website where you can download the software for free. Its their trick. And you can't close theeir alert window once it appears. You need to kill the process which is actually initializing it from abase process.

But, with Windows 8, these browser-based fake warnings will be shown full-screen, without the visible signs that you're in a browser.

So it seems like it will be easy for psychos to get engaged in these activities easily as OS itself supports full screen.

Facebook scares users with account protection status warning

Last few weeks many of my friends on Facebook page mailed me that their account protection was "very low". I was bit surprised when I saw A screen shot of it.

With a scareware which I call fake antivirus prompts you to increase protection of your account which is not compromised even. There must be something which lets you do it. And the red hackers must be planning out to do something when you do it. The question is how?

Now its a human tendency, when you see the warning you get upset and worry about the security of personal data on web. Now most people who are aware how to change the security will definitely try to take some actions.

Those action include changing the facebook password, Increasing security by not allowing any IP address log in without registering, then applying for a phone number sms updates which will help you to know If you are login with the Facebook account and so on.

I was so curious to get this thing straight. Why FB will feel that my account security is not up-to the mark?Well you also might have the same question in your mind. Let me take you into deep.

If you do click on the link, the first thing you are asked to do is enter an additional email address. So if you forget your password they will do the needful with this address.Also they will update your every login details to your mail described.They could then use this, for instance, to communicate with you with this mail address.

Its quick right, Isn't it? Well I personally prefer you before doing anything like updating your numbers and email addresses to think of it for a second.

Think before adding your personal information over internet such as Address, Phone Number, Identity number etc.
It makes difficult for any body if your accounts are compromised simultaneously. So I will prefer you to use different passwords for your Facebook accounts and for your personal mail accounts.
This may help you to get through some of the phishing attacks.

"birthday shirt" targeting Facebook users Be aware

Psychological ill people are back in action this year and now they want to hit the Facebook's users.

There is a separate web page made by some community.

The page indicates that as there is Facebook's 7th anniversary, Facebook decided to give away some T-shirts which will be tagged "Facebook" on it. Well there are some unaware users who are scammmmed.

The said group was mass sharing the status a link which is redirected to new page which is owned by them only. There they ask permission to allow access your profile's basic information.

The parties behind the scam would then ask for a “secret" Facebook email address to verify the prospective victim is a legitimate Facebook user. They say they will upload photoes, videos, status updates from them to users profile. This I call a kinky stuff. And when you allow them by providing your secrete FB email address by which you can directly post anything on your wall.

This was detected as fraudulent as you are redirected to page other than Facebook.com and was not sub domain of FB like Facebook.com/something.

You will know if you are scammed if some third party posts status updates on your behalf which includes some advertisements of third parties.

Cure that will help you if you get to know that you are scammed:

1. refresh your email status addresses from privacy option.

2. Never ever share it again to any third party.

Things are more simpler actually. I mean why facebook will request you to verify status update email address which is itself provided by them ?

Be alert think logically if you are asked something to be verified.

Also don't forget to check the address in the address bar of browser if it is genuine. You can do it by checking manually if its a page hosted by the site such as:

www.facebok.com/verify is not the same as www.facebook.com/verify.

Hope your Facebook accounts are in sound conditions.

In these recent days I've never seen any of my friends buying desktop.

Their first choice is notebook.

Giants such as HP,DELL, ACER are having official tie ups with Microsoft.

The agreement says consumer or end user needs to buy notebooks with pre-reloaded Windows operating systems.

Well if you do so your notebooks price increases automatically by some reasonable amount.

This has created small vendors to have their own notebooks which are not bundled with any of the OS but has free DOS.

There you go BINGO!!!!

If you have DOS, then what more you can get free is Linux Operating system.

what they do is they wrap cloud OS such as Jolly Cloud in their notebook. As it doesn't need a licence but just a registration which any one can easily do.

In country like people always look for more in less amount of money i.e. they need value for money.

Soon these giants realized this and now they also decided to give options to the ed users for Jolly Cloud.

It sounds interesting, Isn't it? Yes it is indeed!!

SO get ready to use Linux again!!!!!

Well these days there is a craze of windows 7. Still its off the market but people are searching applying themes on Win XP to let it look win 7.That's pretty interesting. This was an observation made by an online survey that Vista was not that popular as windows 7 will be. The number of hits for win 7 themes seems to be increasing day by day.Developer are also making money out of it.Its a maze how the so called Vista failed in terms of memory usage. It was not enough well adapted for those computer who doesn't have memory more than 2 GB. If you have it then your are through.But if you font then it will definitely create many problems such as long waiting for a single operation to complete and so on.
To make it look like Vista or Windows 7 people use themes on their Windows XP which is the most popular and light weight OS available in the market. People use it for its ease an simplicity.A good performance is a plus for those who do complicated operation using systems.

I hope windows 7 will not compromise with the performance issues in the upcoming Beta trial version .

Sometimes you need to save some files in jpg,png or pdf format. Now to convert them is not always a easy task.
Well I don't think so. I will prefer you to get this driver installed so if you need to above mentioned task you can do it easily by doing so. This is actually called as a virtual printer, This virtual printer that you are going to download allows you to print from any program to image format. You can download it in web this is as small as 996 kb. After install, you can configure the options to what image format you would print in File Format tab. Define the print output folder and press Continue. Next, to print you have to choose Image Printer on print dialog box from any software then print as usual. I tried it. So now making PDF file is not that hard. You can do it even by using Google chrome's internal PDFs driver to print your web page as PDF or image format file.
