Holidays can be a tricky thing to navigate when it comes to getting the best price as well as having a long enough break away from the office.

One difficult element is having enough annual leave to use for a long holiday without using it all up in one go.

UK citizens working five days a week must receive at least 28 days of paid annual leave, which equates to 5.6 weeks of holiday according to gov.uk.

Many employers include the bank holiday dates included in this, so removing those eight days means the minimum that workers must have is 20 days a year.

Of course, it is all dependent on whether the boss allows workers to take this much time off.

But by doing this, it also means the worker has at least another six days of holiday to use up.

If they decide to travel over two weekends, then the six days left could then add up to another holiday of ten days.

Anyone wanting a summer holiday later in the year can use just four days of annual leave for a nine-day holiday, if booking from August 25 to September 2, using the bank holiday.

Apple sued for trademark violation by Japanese firm over 'Animoji' feature in iPhone X

Tokyo-based firm Emonster that owns the trademark for "Animoji" in the US, has filed a lawsuit against Apple for using the same word for a feature in the iPhone X.

Emonster owns an iOS app called "Animoji" that lets people send emoji that are animated in a loop like GIFs.

The iPhone X's "Animoji" feature lets people transform their face into customised moving emoji with the help from Apple's face recognition technology "FaceID".

In the lawsuit filed in a US federal court, Emonster said: "Apple made the conscious decision to try to pilfer the name for itself."

"The lawsuit alleges that because both the Animoji app and the iPhone X feature are on Apple's platforms, and because they both involve moving animation, the court should rule one out," The Verge reported late Friday.

According to the lawsuit, Apple was aware of Emonster's trademark because the app is available in the Apple Store.

The Emonster app costs $0.99 on Apple iTunes.

"This is a textbook case of willful, deliberate trademark infringement. With full awareness of plaintiffs' Animoji mark, Apple decided to take the name and pretend to the world that 'Animoji' was original to Apple," the lawsuit read.

Apple is yet to comment.

Online payment gateway PayPal has allowed American people to send and request money via Facebook Messenger using PayPal accounts.

PayPal is the leader in peer-to-peer (P2P) payments with $24 billion in P2P volume during the third quarter of 2017 alone (up 47 per cent year-over-year).

The ability to send and request money in Messenger gives people more choice and more convenient ways to get things done in different contexts.

“Whether it’s splitting a bill for a cab ride or a night out, paying for your share of the rent, or making sure you get paid back for mom’s birthday present, PayPal makes exchanging money between friends and family simple,” the company said in a statement late Friday.

Last year, PayPal partnered with Facebook Messenger, allowing more than 2.5 million US customers to connect their accounts, use PayPal to shop on Messenger and enable Messenger as a means of communication for PayPal users.

When composing a message in Messenger with one person, or even a group, people can tap on the blue plus icon, and then select the green payments button to quickly send or request money.

People can then choose PayPal as their funding source when making a P2P payment with their Messenger contacts.

“In addition to enabling P2P payments with PayPal in Messenger, we are also introducing our first-ever PayPal customer service bot for Messenger, so PayPal customers can seamlessly receive payment and account support directly in the app,” said Bill Ready, Chief Operating Officer, PayPal.

There was a huge hype around the recently-released Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple's flagships -- iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X -- over reports that the handsets would have fingerprint sensor embedded under the display, but it didn't happen much to the disappointment of gadget lovers. However, this unique feature could be seen in the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, if reports are anything to go by.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, has said in a note that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may come with "under-display optical fingerprint" sensor when it is released in the second half of 2018, according to Business Insider.

The report went on to say that three companies namely BeyondEyes, Samsung subsidiary Samsung LSI, and Egis, which currently supplies fingerprint sensors to the South Korean technology giant, might supply parts for under-display fingerprint sensor. It said Apple supplier Synaptics is an unlikely candidate for the supply of the sensor as Samsung might use a different technology to improve battery life.

"In our latest analysis of recent under-display optical fingerprint recognition industry developments, we see Korean suppliers and Synaptics as having better visibility among suppliers. With regard to the latest biometrics technologies, however, we favor the 3D sensing segment," wrote Kuo (via Business Insider).

If the under-display optical fingerprint sensor technology turns into a reality, all that users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 have to do to unloack their devices is to place their fingers on certain part of the screen.

Both Samsung and Apple did try to introduce this technology in their current flagships but had to back out due to production issues. So, it will be interesting to see the technology in the upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

WhatsApp rolls out ‘Live Location’ sharing designed for Android & iPhone

WhatsApp, the most popular messaging service, is offering its more than 1 billion users a new reason to keep coming back to the app multiple times a day: live location sharing.

With the help of this new service, a user can select to allow a contact or a group map out their position or movement on a chart in real time for a definite time frame. The service is different from the existing “share location” trait that shares a static position. But, like the still position, live locality also will only be noticeable to the friends or groups one wishes to share it with.

As of February this year, WhatsApp possessed 200 million monthly active users in the country, making the nation its prime zone.

WhatsApp product manager Zafir Khan said, “We were trying to solve the rendezvous problem: when you are meeting up with a group when you want to share where you are when you are commuting, or when you want to let your loved ones know that you are safe. These are the scenarios where the live location is useful.”

Previously too, application programs and web companies have integrated social site-sharing as a characteristic. On Uber, a person can share the trip position with a contact, which lets them follow the cab’s movement instantaneously. In June 2017, Snapchat rolled out a location-sharing feature called Snap Map.

Google introduced Google Latitude during 2009 – a product the search giant “retired” after a period of 4 years.

WhatsApp’s live location characteristic had been in progress for the past few months and he said that it will be back-to-back encrypted like the messages, images and video recordings shared on the application program.

“We understand that location is an intimate piece of information, so the option to ‘stop sharing’ is prominently displayed,” said Khan.

Traditionally, new editions of the iPhone have sold quickly as fans queue for the latest upgrade, but early surveys have added to chatter that the iPhone 8 is not proving as popular as its predecessors.

U.S. wireless carrier AT&T said last week its third-quarter postpaid handset upgrades were fewer by nearly 900,000 from a year ago, and brokerage Jefferies attributed it to weak iPhone 8 demand.

“Many respondents indicated that a meaningful portion of customers are buying iPhone 7 in lieu of the new iPhone 8, given the lack of significant enhancements in the new phone,” KeyBanc analyst John Vinh wrote in a client note.

Vinh also said feedback from stores indicated that customers were waiting to purchase the iPhone X or to compare the iPhone X with other models before buying the iPhone 8.

Apple last month introduced the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which resemble the iPhone 7 but have a glass back for wireless charging. While iPhone 8 starts from $699 in the United States, iPhone 7 is retailing from $549 after a price cut.

The iPhone X, a glass and stainless steel device with an edge-to-edge display, will start shipping from Nov. 3. The 10th-anniversary iPhone is priced from $999 – Apple’s most expensive mobile till date.

One investor in Apple’s shares played down any concern around a dip in sales of the iPhone 7 or 8, given the much-anticipated debut of iPhone X.

“Worrying about any small down-tick in margins from the sale of the iPhone 7 or 8 is a wrong-headed way to look at it as iPhone X is really the flagship device where we’re going to see a strong upgrade cycle,” said Jason Ware, chief investment officer of Albion Financial Group.

Thailand bans smoking on popular tourist beaches

Bangkok: Thailand is introducing a smoking ban on popular beaches across the country including Phuket and those caught violating the law will face up to a year in prison.

The measure will apply to up to 20 popular tourist beaches found to be constantly littered with huge numbers of discarded cigarette butts, according to the chief of marine and coastal resources.

The ban, which will come into effect next month, will apply to beaches in the provinces of Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chon Buri and Songkhla and included the popular resorts of Koh Samui and Pattaya, the Bangkok Post reported. The move came after the country's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) said it had retrieved tens of thousands of cigarette butts left in the sand.

The DMCR said the discarded waste made up a third of all rubbish collected. The head of the department, Jatuporn Buruspat, said that up to 138,000 cigarette butts had been collected by the environmental group over a 2.5 km stretch of Patong beach in Phuket.

True Tales From the Skies: What It's Really Like to Be a Flight Attendant

Ever wondered what it’s like to work as a flight attendant? Flying over the continents to exotic locations but in reality becoming a flight attendant requires mastering five different professions and getting selected amongst thousands of applicants. A Russian flight attendant Elizaveta Andreeva shared her story of how she became a flight attendant.

Elizaveta Andreeva graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and speaks three languages fluently. She has been in the crew of a well-known international airline for about two years and during this time she has visited 45 countries — from New Zealand and Jamaica to Mauritius and South Africa.

On board the airliner, the flight attendant has to be able to do everything: pacify a violent passenger, deliver a baby, and even be able to perform artificial respiration and other first aid requirements.

"From where you fly, depends what passengers will be", – Lisa tells

Longest job interview

“It was probably the longest interview in my life,” Elizaveta told RIA Novosti in an interview. “I went in at nine in the morning and left at eight in the evening,” she added.

Previously, an airline interview for flight attendants was held every two months in Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, now the application is closed because the staff is full. So out of one and a half thousand online applications, about 130 candidates are selected.

They then, have to go through five full-time stages of job interviews after which only four people will be hired.

The job interviews include full psychological analysis by psychologists, task solving approach and language tests.

Training and other factors

For the crew only the lower age limit is stipulated which is 21 years. This is due primarily to the fact that under the law of the country where the airline is based, alcohol can be sold only from the age of 21, and, of course, there is always alcohol on board the aircraft.

Typically, the onboard team consists of young recruits in their mid twenties and early thirties. However, according to Elizaveta, in the Emirates Airlines there are flight attendants who are well over 40.

“The study in the college lasts only three months, but the program there is very intense,” Elizaveta said. “The classes started at five in the morning and we almost spent the night at the training center. It seemed that you master five professions at once: you are a nanny, a nurse and a psychologist.”

Students are also explained what should be done in the event of an airplane hijacking and what to do if a bomb was found on board, how to minimize damage to the aircraft and the black box.

100 hours of flight time

Talking about flying all over the world, Elizaveta said, “You face so many passengers that you become super-tolerant — nothing surprises you anymore.”

The journeys are long and physically tiring. During long flights, flight attendants work without getting more than just 4 hours of sleep. “Of course, it all pays off with new impressions and constant travels,” the flight attendant said.

“However, physically it's very hard. I did not have a single flight yet where I landed and did not say, ‘God, how tired I am.’ The lack of sleep alternates with a long rest. One day my body set a record and I slept for 18 hours straight,” she added.

On an average month the crew spends up to 100 flight hours with eight days off. The salary of the flight attendant consists of four parts: a fixed amount, bonuses for flight hours, business trip’s payments and a 10 percent interest from sales of the Duty Free items on board.

From the skies to the ground

Many crew members combine work in the sky and on the ground: they fly for two months, then work in the office, at the airport or teach in college for two.

Kaspersky Lab : 'We've Never Helped Any Government With Cyberespionage Efforts'

Cyber security provider Kaspersky Lab addressed media claims about Israeli intelligence hacking into the security company's network and relaying obtained intel to US officials.

The company representatives told Sputnik that "Kaspersky Lab was not involved in and does not possess any knowledge of the situation in question," referring to allegations made by several Western media outlets regarding Israeli security services tipping off their US colleagues about Russian hackers employing Kaspersky products for their nefarious alleged activities.

"Kaspersky Lab has never helped, nor will it help any government in the world in its cyberespionage efforts, and contrary to erroneous reports, Kaspersky Lab software does not contain any undeclared capabilities such as backdoors, as that would be illegal and unethical," the company said.

Kaspersky Lab representatives also declared that as the integrity of its products is "fundamental" to their business, the company "patches any vulnerabilities it identifies or that are reported to the company", and is willing to "work alongside US authorities to address any concerns they may have about its products as well as its systems."

"It is also important to note, Kaspersky Lab detects all kinds of threats, including nation-state sponsored malware, regardless of the origin or purpose. The company tracks more than 100 advanced persistent threat actors and operations, and for 20 years, Kaspersky Lab has been focused on protecting people and organizations from these cyber threats — its headquarters’ location doesn’t change that mission," the company explained.

Earlier, several Western media outlets including the New York Times announced that Israeli intelligence spied on "Russian government hackers" who allegedly employed Kaspersky Lab software as an improvised search tool, and that the ban on the use of Kaspersky Lab products by the US government was implemented after Washington got tipped off about this development by Israelis.

Meanwhile, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has announced that it had found no proof that Kaspersky Lab software was exploited by Russian hackers.

"There are currently no plans to issue a warning against the use of Kaspersky products as the BSI has no evidence of the company’s misconduct or weaknesses in its software," the agency said.

It is not just a random firmware being pushed out to the Apple devices, as iOS 11.0.3 comes with critical patches that fix several bugs and also most importantly enhance user-experience of iPhones and iPads, which the company lately is falsely accused of slowing the older generation models to make them obsolete and force consumers to go for newer versions.

Google Adds Video Calling Through The Phone, Contacts, Android Messenger Apps

Google is finally bringing a feature that has been in the iOS ecosystem for a while, video calling without leaving your phone app. Apple devices have had this feature for a while and it’s been appreciated by the users as well. Google posted a blog on October 12th to announce that it has integrated video calling feature in its Phone, Contacts and Android Messenger app.

We want to make it even easier to start a video call from your Android device, so we’re making video calling an integrated part of your phone. You can now start a video call directly from where you call or text message your friends, through your Phone, Contacts, and Android Messages apps. Later this year, we’ll also add the ability to upgrade an ongoing voice call to video with just a tap.

Google has accomplished this integration by tying up its video calling app Duo and the ViLTE standard, the latter of which is an extension of the existing VoLTE that focuses on increased video call quality over an LTE network. The video calls will be routed through ViLTE but, Duo will be the fall back option if your network doesn’t support the standard. This move by Google ties the Duo app deep in the Android ecosystem. Google has also promised that by later this year it will add the ability to upgrade to an ongoing voice call to video with just a tap.

There are a few things to keep in mind, the first being that you and the person you’re calling must have Duo installed and activated if ViLTE isn’t used. Next up, you must also have the latest versions of the Phone, Contacts, Android Messages, and Duo apps installed.

This feature is rolling out to Google powered devices namely the Pixel, Nexus and Android One smartphones. Google said it is working with carriers and device manufacturers to have integrated video calling across a wider variety of devices.

When Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile it was seen as the mobile counterpart of the world's largest mobile OS's last saving grace. But Microsoft has finally called it quits with Windows Mobile.

Microsoft Windows Phone platform has been dead for more than a year, but it was never made official by the company. It is only now that the company has come out and said that the tech-giant will no longer be developing new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile.

Joe Belfiore head of Microsoft's "PC-Tablet-Phone" division, tweeted, "Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes and, security updates, but building new features or hardware aren't the focus," confirming the company's decision.

It comes as no surprise that Windows 10 Mobile wasn't able to catch up with Google's Android, but a lot of fans had hoped that Microsoft would update Windows Mobile with new and improved features to at least be in the game. It is now clear that the operating system has been placed in servicing mode, and existing users will continue to get just bug fixes and security patches.

Microsoft had put the brakes on its phone business last year. The Redmond-giant had shifted its focus from mobile phones to cloud computing and it became obvious during Microsoft's recent Build and Inspire conferences, when Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella dropped the company's mantra of "mobile-first, cloud –first", in favour of "intelligent cloud and intelligent edge."

Microsoft was one of the first smartphone OS makers with Windows CE that powered PDAs way back in 1996 and later with Windows Phone in 2000.

The Windows Phone 7 operating system was launched when Android wasn't the universally accepted operating system that we know today. Upon its launch, major smartphone manufacturers like Nokia and HTC and even Samsung made Windows Phone devices. Microsoft even bought Nokia's mobile business for $7 billion and rebranded the iconic Nokia brand to Microsoft Lumia line of smartphones.

But the platform suffered due a lack of apps in its app store, Windows Marketplace, and the inability to offer timely updates as compared to the fast evolving Android. Windows Mobile accounted for only 1.3 percent of the US smartphone market as compared to Android's 64 percent market share.

Manufacturers and app developer alike were moving fast to Android, but Microsoft didn't want to give up. Belfiore said Microsoft tried "very hard" to provide incentives for app developers to get their apps onto Windows Mobile. But also reiterated the volume of Windows Mobile users was too low for most companies to invest.

If you’re prepared to start your end of year holidays a little earlier, you’ll be able to find good deals in cities like Barcelona and Paris in November and December, despite the global average prices peaking at this time. Pay up to 22% less compared to the annual average in Barcelona to experience Christmas festivities like the Fira de Santa Llúcia and Fira de Sagrada Família. Just be wary in case businesses close for festivities, and do your research beforehand!

Destinations in Asia rank cheapest between June and November.

In Asia, rates are up to 16% cheaper on average in June and September in countries like Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan. Pakar kesehatan spesialis patologi anatomi bernama dr Evalina Suzana yang berasal dari Rumah Sakit Kanker Dharmais menyarankan untuk tidak langsung meminum teh yang masih dalam kondisi panas seperti dikutip doktersehat.com.

Pastikan untuk menunggunya hingga suhunya sekitar 80 derajat Celcius atau saat sudah hangat saja, agar kandungan antioksidannya bisa keluar.

Dalam sebuah penelitian yang dipublikasikan hasilnya dalam jurnal berjudul BMJ, disebutkan bahwa kebiasaan mengkonsumsi teh saat masih dalam kondisi panas bisa meningkatkan resiko terkena kanker esofagus, kanker yang menyerang saluran tenggorokan menuju ke perut.

Dalam penelitian yang dilakukan di Tehran University of Medical Sciences ini, pakar kesehatan Farhad Islami menyebutkan bahwa mereka yang suka minum teh panas cenderung meningkatkan risiko terkena kanker esofagus 8 kali lebih besar dibandingkan dengan mereka yang suka minum teh hangat. Fakta ini didapatkan dari data yang didapatkan dari 300 orang yang menderita kanker esofagus dan 571 orang dengan kondisi sehat.
