Filhas de Fórcis, deus marinho, segundo alguns ou segundo outros, de Aqueloos, divindade fluvial, e de uma ninfa, que pela mágica suavidade de seu canto, atraía os navegadores para os escolhos do mar da Sicília, para os fazerem morrer sobre os rochedos ou devorá-los. Dizia a lenda que as sereias habitavam rochedos escarpados, entre a Ilha de Capri e o litoral da Itália.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Terminada a Guerra de Tróia, Ulisses, ao retornar a Ítaca, sua terra natal, foi obrigado a usar essa passagem sinistra. Ordenou então marinheiros que vendassem os ouvidos com cera, a fim de que não escutassem o trágico e fatal canto e fez-se amarrar ao mastro da embarcação, para assim ouvi-lo sem perigo. Ao perceber que Ulisses escapara ao encantamento, as sereias tomadas de indignação, lançaram-se ao mar e foram convertidas em rochedos.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No Brasil, por exemplo, o mito das sereias contaminou-se com outros, não só de procedência tupi-guarani como também de origem negro-africana. No extremo-norte, onde é bastante acentuada a influência ameríndia, a sereia confundiu-se com a Iara, entidade mítica que, com sua beleza e seus canto, atrai os homens para o fundo do mar. Na zona de influência negro-africana houve sincretismo entre a sereia e Iemanjá, deusa da mitologia sudanesa que preside as águas, responsável por uma das mais famosas cerimônias afro-brasileiras. Na carreira, atingiu o posto de almirante, tendo os seus serviços à pátria sido reconhecidos pelo Império com a concessão do título de marquês de Tamandaré. Herói nacional, é o patrono da Marinha de Guerra do Brasil. Foi construído em 1962, como navio de pesca, em Vigo, Espanha e batizado com o nome "Cabana". Já denominado "Brasil I", foi empregado como navio de pesca em Recife-PE até 1964, quando foi arrestado pelo Banco Central, em troca de uma divida dos seus proprietários, e enviado para o Rio de Janeiro. Em 1967, o Banco Central doou a embarcação à SUDEPE - Superintendência do Desenvolvimento da Pesca, que a rebatizou como “Mestre Jerônimo”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Até 1979 foi empregada pela SUDEPE em pesquisa de pesca. Em 25 de outubro de 1979, foi doada à MB, sendo recebida pelo Serviço de Sinalização Náutica do Sul (SSN-5) em 14 de novembro do mesmo ano. Em 11 de fevereiro de 1982, o Ministro da Marinha, Almirante-de-Esquadra Maximiano Eduardo da Silva Fonseca, em visita ao Porto de Rio Grande, determinou verbalmente ao Comandante do 5º Distrito Naval, Vice-Almirante Fernando Mendonça da Costa Freitas, que fossem realizados estudos de viabilidade para a transformação do Navio Pesqueiro em Navio Balizador, já que o casco se encontrava em avançado estado de desmontagem.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Em 21 de janeiro de 1983, foi assinado o Contrato nº 760/002 com a CORENA – Metalurgia e Construções Navais S/A, para realização dos serviços em seu estaleiro em Itajaí-SC, iniciados em 28 de janeiro de 1983. No CORENA, teve sua propulsão modificada de um motor/um eixo para dois motores/dois eixos, aumento da superestrutura para acomodar uma tripulação maior, remodelação do passadiço e a instalação de um mastro de proa com pau de carga. O custo de sua conversão foi 1/3 do custo de um NB classe Comandante Varella. Depois de realizar as provas de cais, realizou as provas de mar nos dias 17 e 19 de janeiro de 1984.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Foi submetido a Mostra de Armamento e incorporado à Armada em 31 de janeiro de 1984, segundo a Portaria n.º 1512 de 04/11/83 e a O.D. 0001/84 de 31/01/1984, em cerimônia presidida pelo Chefe do Estado-Maior da Armada, AE Alfredo Karam. Naquela ocasião, assumiu o comando o Capitão-Tenente Francisco Carlos Ortiz de Holanda Chaves.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A oficialidade do recebimento do Faroleiro Mario Seixas foi a seguinte:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- CT Francisco Carlos Ortiz de Holanda Chaves - Comandante&lt;br /&gt;- 1º Ten. Esta data foi escolhida em 1925, pelo Ministro da Marinha, Almirante Alexandrino de Alencar, em homenagem ao Almirante Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquês de Tamandaré, Patrono da Marinha, que nasceu nesse dia, no ano de 1807. A homenagem à Tamandaré foi muito significativa, pois ele dedicou toda sua vida à Marinha e é um exemplo para todos os marinheiros.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Entrou para a Marinha na Guerra de Independência, aos quinze anos de idade. Durante a Guerra Cisplatina ficou conhecido por seus atos de bravura. Aos dezoito anos, assumiu o comando de um navio, a Escuna Constança, e depois, no comando da Escuna Bela Maria, distinguiu-se por sua coragem e cavalheirismo. Destacou-se durante toda a carreira, em comissões difíceis e importantes. Como Oficial General, comandou as ações no Uruguai, em 1864, e foi o Comandante-em-Chefe da Força Naval Brasileira em Operações de Guerra contra o Paraguai, no período de 1865 e 1866. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Tamandaré viveu em uma época muito importante para a formação do Brasil. Assistiu a colônia se tornar Reino Unido, depois Império e, mais tarde, República. Participou de 4 guerras e contribuiu para evitar a desagregação do território brasileiro, atuando contra várias revoltas internas no País. Ele faz parte do grupo de militares, diplomatas, políticos e estadistas que legou, com suas realizações, aos brasileiros a herança de um país de proporções continentais, rico em recursos naturais, que abriga uma população unida por um idioma e uma cultura.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;O dia 13 de dezembro é dedicado a todos os marinheiros do Brasil. Localizado ao sul da Península da Malásia, o local não ouvirá os roncos dos motores de Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton nem de Felipe Massa, mas sentirá os ventos dos Volvo Open 70 de Torben Grael, Bouwe Bekking, Ken Read, Ian Walker, Andreas Hanakamp, Fernando Echavárri e Roberto Bermudéz que chegarão em seu porto, de onde saem muitos navios carregados de produtos eletrônicos e de alta tecnologia, após 1.950 milhas náuticas, cerca de 3.611 quilômetros, saídos de Cochin, na Índia.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Volvo Ocean Race dará largada a sua terceira perna no segundo mês da regata de volta ao mundo no sábado, dia 13 de dezembro. A chegada dos primeiros barcos deverá acontecer em pouco mais de uma semana e eles ficarão na cidade até o dia 18 de janeiro de 2009. Até lá terão tempo para descanso e comemorações, já que passarão o Natal e o Reveillon no local. O reencontro com as embarcações será em 10 de janeiro, na regata In-Port.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;De colonização chinesa e inglesa, Cingapura é um dos cartões postais mais bonitos do mundo. Vai ser uma etapa difícil e ainda mais disputada que as outras, porque, com condições de vento leve, os navios estão ainda mais igualados", disse.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O brasileiro acrescentou que enfrentam dificuldades a mais, como as transições de vento de mar a vento de terra, os navios de pescadores e suas redes. "Especialmente complicada será a passagem na Península de Malaca".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mesmo reconhecendo que outras equipes possam estar mais preparadas para esses ventos, ele disse que está cada vez mais confortável.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"O fato de haver tido a oportunidade de navegar também em condições de mais calma na segunda etapa nos serviu para ganhar experiência.
