It’s really exciting to have a few shows in Tempe this season that haven’t graced the Gammage stage before. SUMMER is a musical biography of the amazing disco queen, Donna Summer. MEAN GIRLS will bring Tina Fey’s now classic movie to life, which is absolutely “fetch.” And, COME FROM AWAY looks to be an absolutely charming tale of 7,000 airplane passengers who were stranded in a small town in Newfoundland on September 11, 2001, where fear and tension transformed into trust and friendships.

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, ASU Gammage is a beautiful landmark in Tempe and a terrific place to see a performance. ASU Gammage is located on the southwest corner of the ASU Tempe Campus, at Mill Avenue and Apache Blvd. If you choose to park near the theater, here are a few ASU Gammage parking tips. There is some construction in the area, so if you’re going straight to the show, we suggest arriving an hour ahead of time.

However, we think it’s best to make a night out of it. ASU Gammage is very close to restaurants in Downtown Tempe, making it easy to go to dinner beforehand, or go out for cocktails or dessert afterwards. Parking is ample in the downtown area and it is just a quick stroll or pedicab ride to the auditorium. Check out our blog to learn about the best places to eat before a show at ASU Gammage.

Find your favorite slice of pizza at these Tempe restaurants

We don’t know about you, but we think pizza is always a good idea. It is typically a weekly, or let’s be honest, almost daily, part of our diet. These pizza joints in Tempe have stolen a pizza of our hearts and we think you need to discover your favorite slice, whether it be traditional or trending towards unusual. Sadly for us, we didn’t get to try every slice of pizza in Tempe (but we will), so we’ve compiled a list of the places that we did try below. That’s not where the list ends, however. You can also get pizza slices (for lunch) at Sacred Pi or Barro’s in south Tempe. Gus’s New York Pizza is another local favorite and just steps from the ASU Tempe Campus, they have the distinction of being open 24 hours a day. Or check out 414 Pizza in Downtown Tempe for good eats and a side of nightly karaoke. You gotta love that pizza places are aplenty in college towns like Tempe. 

We’re going to try to keep the pizza puns to a minimum because they’re so cheesy but we can’t help but share these slices of heaven with you. After you read this, you’re going to want a pizza this! 

Venezia’s Pizza

Venezia’s has a few locations in the metro area, including one in Tempe on Mill and Southern Avenues. Their friendly staff serves up pizza by the slice for lunch and dinner. You can pair a slice or two with salad or wings and a drink. Their hearty slices are New York style, so expect a thinner crust and lots of gooey cheese. And, their Tempe location is big, so there’s lot of room for you, your squad and the pizza loving masses.  

Signature slice: The Mala, inspired by the Phoenix Rising Football Club, is topped with cheese, pepperoni, grilled chicken and French fries. You can also add a Buffalo sauce swirl, bacon and jalapenos. Because, why wouldn’t you? 

Sal’s Pizza

Just a stone’s throw from the ASU Tempe Campus at Rural and Apache, Sal’s Pizza is the choice for a quick lunch or late-night bite (and by late, we mean they’re open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays). It’s called “wicked good pizza,” because they are straight out of Boston. Their slices are HUGE and their prices are super reasonable.  

Signature slice: It’s a tough call, but we’d go with the barbecue chicken pizza.  

Otto Pizza and Pastry

Otto Pizza and Pastry is a cozy little place that’s been serving up whole pies and slices for more than 27 years. Otto (who moved to Arizona from France in 1992) can always be found in the kitchen kneading the dough for his tasty New York-style pizza. The generously sized slices start at $2.39 with additional toppings costing 59 cents. Deal! And, your order will be out in just minutes.  It’s close to ASU, making it a perfect spot for busy, budget-minded students.  

Signature slice: Otto Rainbow covers the spectrum with mozzarella, pepperoni, ham, green pepper, black olives, tomatoes and seasonings.

Dare I say “Slices – A Unique Style Pizza Joint” is Tempe’s little slice of heaven or is that too CHEESY? When Slices first opened, it was their goal to bring a “slice” of urban living to the Sonoran Desert. Now with two Tempe locations, one on Mill Avenue and 6th Street and the other inside Tempe Marketplace, Slices is bringing the best college and nightlife pizza joint to the forefront. It should be obvious at this point that you can grab pizza by the slice here, but you can also splurge on a 16” or 19” pie or create your own calzone. Beginners tip: If you do order by the slice, get there at the beginning of the lunch hour as their options go fast!  

Signature slice:Potato & Bacon is a winner every time. I mean how can you go wrong with those toppings? 

NYPD Pizza

This lunchtime favorite and building neighbor offers you pizza by the pie or by the slice. We LOVE their lunch combo options. “Gimme a Wall Street and Brooklyn with a pop.”  Channeling our inner New Yorker is super easy here with a modern yet vintage feel. Dine in for lunch or grab it quickly with counter service. If you’re trying to watch your carb consumption *insert eye roll*, you can grab a pizza slice with a side salad or even half dozen boneless wings your way… It’s kind of healthy… right? Justification is key. After 4 p.m., slices switch to half price – a great stop on your way home. 

Signature Slice: The Wallstreet is a good choice for meat lovers, pepperoni, sausage and bacon and to make it healthy… mushrooms! Yummy! 

Spinelli’s Pizza

As pizza lovers, we want all the carbs of course, but sometimes pizza slices are a little too much bread (said no one ever). So when you’re ready to take on a slice of flavor town, hit up one of our favorite late night/early morning snack stops, Spinelli’s. It’s a great place after hanging out on Mill Avenue or where to be in between acts during @Innings Festival or other events at Tempe Beach Park. We love their wide variety of pizza slice types that make you question the taste but you somehow think it makes sense… Chicken and Waffles… Chicken Bacon Ranch… Breakfast…. Mac N Cheese… Now these all sound a bit crazy but definitely give them a try. You can thank us later.

Signature Slice: Give us an ultra-thin slice of Veggie pizza please and enjoy every bit of the toppings because you won’t be overwhelmed by the thickness of crust.

A treat for your taste buds

Since gaining our independence in 1776, American ingenuity and love of sugar have joined forces to concoct amazing desserts that have helped make Americans’ waist lines great! Yes, apple pie, fruit cobblers, brownies, chocolate chip cookies and s’mores will always be favorites and a source of patriotic pride. However, there are always new, sumptuous treats from faraway lands to sample in Tempe’s myriad restaurants serving international cuisines. Here are a few globally inspired confections that will seduce your taste buds and expand your dessert horizons. 

The Middle East- Baklava

Polish off a satisfying Middle Eastern meal of gyro or chicken shawarma plate with a piece of the heavenly Haji-Baba baklava. This classic Middle Eastern dessert is composed of delicate layers of phyllo dough, filled with chopped nuts and laced with a honey syrup. You can have  your baklava with walnuts, pistachios or cashews, or if you can’t decide on one type of nut filling, order the oh so regal Queen Baklava which is filled with all three. A piece of Haji-Baba baklava and a cup of their rich Arabian coffee makes an excellent afternoon pick-me-up that will keep you for going hours.  

Italian – Budino al Cioccolato

As with all things Spinato’s, the Budino al Cioccolato is amazing and a reason to go to Spinato’s other than for their equally yummy pizza. It’s arguably the best chocolate pudding, you’ll ever taste, especially if you love the dark chocolate and orange combo. The custard is a luxuriously rich dark chocolate with just a subtle hint of orange. The candied pecans sprinkled on top are a lovely crunchy contrast to the velvety, pudding.  It’s elegant and decadent… it’s bellissimo! 

India – ice cream

Sure, you’ve had ice cream all your life, but you probably haven’t tried the tantalizing Indian flavors at Curry & Scoop. How about Gulkhand, a rose petal ice cream, or Kesar (Saffron) Almond or Carrot Halwa? They carry all of your favorite American flavors of ice cream, but they make all of their Indian inspired ice cream in house. Not only are these exotic treats a surprise for your taste buds, they are also super refreshing on a hot Arizona day.  

Japan – Pastries

East meets West at this appealing little place that’s known for its beautifully decorated, made-to-order cakes and traditional Japanese pastries called pan. (Pan is the Japanese word for bread, which was first introduced to Japan by the Portuguese in the 1500s.) They are little buns stuffed with sweet or savory fillings like bean cured (An Pan) and custard (Cream Pan). These yummy little bites of yeast pastry are light, fluffy and not-too-sweet–the perfect snack or desert. Arai Pastry also serves sandwiches, salads and coffee.   

Hong Kong – bubble waffle (also called egg waffle or egg puff) and bubble tea

This hidden gem is located on the Northwest corner of Dorsey and Apache Blvd. Its globally inspired concept features fresh ingredients only and a fun spin on eating your made-to-order  bubble waffle or boba drink. We recommend the Godiva Dark Chocolate Bubble Waffle. It’s quite the process to make as they create their waffles on the bubble waffle iron as ordered.  It turns into the most beautiful masterpiece (absolutely photogenic) with tasty toppings. If time isn’t on your side, be sure to check out one of their tasty non-dairy milk teas. Specifically, we LOVED the Tiramisu as it was recommended to us and was very sweet.

Where should you go you ask? We are here to help! We have personally tested out several of our favorite day trips from Tempe, including great restaurants and stops along the way, to make your decision easy!

Day Trips from Tempe: Apache Trail Loop – A day trip to Goldfield Ghost Town and Tortilla Flat along the Apache Trail Loop is perfect for those looking for not too much driving, great food and a taste for the Wild West. This is a great option for families with kids.

Day Trips from Tempe: Florence – Within just over an hour, travelers can step into the peaceful space at St Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery. Afterwards, drive just 10 minutes to the town of Florence for some good grub and a historic downtown experience.

Day Trips from Tempe: Out of Africa Wildlife Park – A 90-minute, scenic drive north of Tempe will lead you to family fun at Out of Africa Wildlife Park and a legendary spot for delicious slices of pie.

Day Trips from Tempe: Flagstaff and Bearizona – Escape the desert and head north to Flagstaff where you’ll find a charming downtown, the Pioneer Museum and a wildlife park (complete with lots of bears) in nearby Williams.

Day Trips from Tempe: Sedona – Looking for that great hike with out of this world views? A quick 90-minute drive up the I-17 will take you to Sedona.

Day Trips from Tempe: Payson – A quick hour and a half drive north will lead you to the quaint mountain town of Payson. Explore nearby Tonto Natural Bridge for scenic views of the area and plenty of hiking opportunities.

Day Trips from Tempe: Jerome – Visit an eccentric artist community that is built into the mountainside. A two hour drive will get you there! A bonus to this trip? Jerome is also known to be haunted, so after visiting Jerome’s local galleries and shops, sign up for a ghost tour for some after dark fun.

Day Trips from Tempe: Superior, Miami and Globe – Take a day trip from Tempe to explore and reminisce in the old copper mining towns of Superior, Miami and Globe, Arizona.

Day Trips from Tempe: Antelope Canyon – Travel to northern Arizona and into Navajo Nation to experience the awe inspiring Antelope Canyon. We left the driving to someone else and joined a DETOURS tour for this excursion. With a knowledgeable tour guide and a full itinerary, it’s a great way to see so much in just one day.

Day Trips from Tempe: Cave Creek – Discover scenic Cave Creek, a place that is within 45 minutes to an hour north of Tempe. It’s known for beautiful Sonoran Desert hiking trails, wide open spaces and spots that are reminiscent of the Wild West.

Day Trips from Tempe: Salt River Rafting – From February through May, Salt River Rafting can take you on a relaxing and exhilarating trip down the scenic Salt River. Just make sure to stop in Globe, Arizona before or after rafting for seriously good Mexican food.

We donut mess around when it comes to donut shop delights in Tempe

The Donut Competition 

We thought it would be a blast to showcase some of Tempe’s most beloved donut shops and pin donuts up against one another, sprinkle to sprinkle in the [one of the] most important competitions of the year. 

Of course, everyone in our office was willing to participate… no arm twisting here. 

Round 1  

The first go around, we were so fascinated with the donuts from local creative favorites, Donut Parlor and Hurts Donuts.   

Donut get us wrong, we love a fun donut but flavor is just as important, if not more. Some categories that we considered while checking out these round pieces of joy were Most Instagrammable, For the Brave (and Willing), and Most Creative and Colorful. 

These categories were kept in the forefront of our taste buds as we tried flavors like Strawberry Special K Cereal, S’mores and Maple Bacon. You read that right!  

 Conveniently located on your way to work is Donut Parlor – the strip mall location on Elliot near Priest Dr. doesn’t do justice for how awesome tasting the donuts are. You’re sure to be the office hero when you bring in a variety pack of these donuts. It definitely upped our popularity when we brought the donuts in to our office.

Group projects and team collabs get a whole lot easier with we’re incentivized by donuts, agreed? Hurts Donuts is located near ASU campus, so grab one of those scooters with a basket and make your way to school or work with a variety of donuts in tow. (Please consume donuts responsibly and do not eat donuts while operating a scooter.)

Round 2 

In Round 1, we had a free for all taste test where our co-workers just picked out the donut(s) they were dying to try. So we wanted to make our second taste test a bit more scientific. Two companies went head to head with nearly identical donuts. 

We drove ourselves glazy comparing these donuts and our team was certain that they voted for the same company each time. We compared batter profiles, size and sugar content – in this case, size matters ladies and gents. 

Although each donut had very similar flavors as its counterparts, it became the battle of the Company A vs. Company B. In this case, we checked out Arizona Donut Company, on Broadway west of Hardy, and Boba & Donuts, off Baseline and 48th St. in the Fry’s Food Plaza. I did pull the wool over the team’s eyes by switching the company placement in the second round of tasting. Everyone thought they were voting for the same company, but in actuality, they voted for the other company. Gotcha!

Vegan Donuts 

Health and wellness might not always be at the forefront of our minds as we dine around Tempe doing what we do best…eating. But, we want to ensure you that you vegans and vegetarians don’t have to feel left out of the equation. Tempe has quite a bit of vegan/vegetarian menu options, but one  vegan/vegetarian treat that is worth a mention here is the Cosmic Donut from 24 Carrots! 24 Carrots is located in south Tempe on the southwest corner of Guadalupe and McClintock. As a bonus, this delightful treat is also gluten free. Be sure to stop in the next time you’re craving a sweet that has a little less guilt. It’s just one of their delicious desserts.

It was all fun and games ‘til we came down from the sugar high and hit the sugar coma. I think we can happily say that every donut company wins, and we win for getting to eat every donut.

Now that the end of April is here and May is on the horizon, there are a few things that will once again become prevalent on your social media feeds. First will come the pool photos or some other indication that summer is upon us (#summerbod2019), followed by the Justin Timberlake “It’s gonna be May” memes, that are for some reason still topical. But there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that compares to the amount of Cinco de Mayo photos that will start to come at you at full force. Graduation season at Arizona State University (ASU) is upon us and that means students are transitioning from adolescent college years into mature (hopefully employed) alumni. And parents, well… you’re probably more focused on how many tissues you will need to get you through the ceremony. Pro tip: about 75 tissues come in one box of Kleenex, so two boxes should suffice. You’re welcome. Let’s be real, ASU graduation in Tempe is a momentous occasion for both parents and students alike. And although this should be a joyful time, we know that wrapping up your college experience can get a bit stressful. That’s why we are here to give you the 411 on how to get the most out of your graduation week!

Where to eat

For all of you soon-to-graduate students, you’ve got your cap and gown and now your diploma is in hand (well, they actually mail you your real diploma). So, it’s time to C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E good times, come on! Rejoice in this big accomplishment with all your friends and family at these Tempe restaurants.

• Any special occasion in a Sun Devils’ life starts and ends with House of Tricks. Located just steps from Mill Avenue, House of Tricks is hidden inside two charming turn-of-the-century homes, behind a vine-strewn courtyard. Their private dining areas and patio can accommodate all your family and guests. And, their menu is full of creative and delicious dishes that you’ll remember long after you finish your meal.
• Top of the Rock is a local favorite and must see. Located at Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes, they offer beautiful panoramic views of the Valley, locally sourced chef inspired cuisine, signature cocktails and an extensive wine list.

• Tempe Marketplace is an all-inclusive shopping, dining and entertainment destination that will satisfy your entire graduation party. The Keg Steakhouse + Bar, Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill, Bar Louie and Dave & Busters are great options for a graduation celebration.

Where to take photos

ASU has a very large campus and it can be quite daunting to find the perfect spot to take your graduation photos. Not to mention, you will be fighting for the same spot as thousands of other graduates and their families. Don’t let that intimidate you. We have put together a list of the most iconic buildings, walkways, breezeways and courtyards, where you’ll find the perfect background for your graduation photos.

• Constructed before Arizona achieved statehood, Old Main is an iconic venue on campus and is the perfect backdrop for senior portraits. Take photos in front of the fountain, along the main stairwell or anywhere around the beautiful grounds that make for a great offset location.
• There is a reason why this is dubbed the most photographed place on Campus, Palm Walk is the perfect spot for the quintessential ASU photo op. This iconic ASU walkway is lined with over 100 eloquently groomed palm trees spanning 4/10th of a mile, connecting the north and south side of campus. Palm Walk will lead you to several popular spots on campus such as the Memorial Union (MU) and the ASU Bookstore, the Sun Devil Campus Store, where you can grab your last minute ASU memorabilia.
• If you’ve ever driven down University Drive between Mill Avenue and Rural Road you know that the ASU University Bridge is something that must be photographed. Stand in front of the bridge where the ASU sign can be seen or stand on top and capture the heart beat of ASU Tempe Campus.
• Every Sun Devil story kicks off with white washing the “A” on A Mountain, so it is only fitting to close this chapter by taking a graduation photo in this very spot. The best place to capture the “A” is from the first lookout point half way up the mountain. This is also a great spot to capture pictures of Downtown Tempe.
• Bordered by West Hall and Dixie Gammage Hall, the Secret Garden is located just south of McClintock Hall. The Garden holds green grassy lawns, blooming flowers, and banana trees making it the perfect spot for taking your professional head shot photos.
• Don’t think we forgot about you parents! Those of you who are ASU alums or have been around Tempe for years, should be familiar with the infamous Bandersnatch pub. Now’s your chance to relive those glory days and snap a photo in front of the Bandersnatch doors inside Residence Inn Tempe Downtown where they pay homage to the very pub that stood in the same location for years. Things to do in Tempe

In between the commencement ceremony or ceremonies, picture taking and celebratory meals, there are lots of places where the whole brood (family and friends) can enjoy Tempe and our desert scenery. Here are a few ideas about things to do in Tempe during ASU graduation week.

• Leave the driving and trip planning to someone else and go on a guided tour. The Tempe Tourism blog details some favorite options offered by local tour companies including hot air balloon rides, mountain bike adventures and excursions to destinations around the state such as Sedona, the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon.
• Visit the Tempe Center for the Arts, located on the south shore of Tempe Town Lake, and see a free gallery exhibition, a performance from Stray Cat Theatre or Scottsdale Musical Theater Company, or stop by for EDGE Happy Hour on Friday or Saturday evening with free live music and great food and beverage specials.
• Try something new and go axe throwing at Lumberjaxes. You will be surprised at how good (or how bad) you and your crew are at throwing an axe. But, whether you are great at it or not, you’re sure to have a fun time.
• Take a relaxing boat ride. Boat Rentals of America – Tempe Town Lake has stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, pedal boats (including the brand new swan boats) and electric boats that seat up to 12 people. Boat Rentals of America – Kiwanis Lake at Kiwanis Park offers kayaks and pedal boats.
• May is an ideal time to enjoy the cool morning temperatures or be awed by Arizona’s colorful sunsets from a hiking trail. Favorites include “A” Mountain in Downtown Tempe, Hole in the Rock at Papago Park and South Mountain Park and Preserve. Visit the Tempe Tourism hiking blog to learn about each trail.
• There’s always a sense of calm when you visit Desert Botanical Garden. From their trails, you can see thousands of plants from arid climates around the world and you will learn more about the flora and fauna that call the desert home. From now until May 12, you can also experience the Garden at night during “Electric Desert,” a light and sound experience created by Klip Collective. Our insider tip: stay for the entire light show at the butte. It’s awesome.
• Go shopping at Tempe Marketplace or Arizona Mills. Whether you’re looking for items for a new apartment, clothes for job interviews, or just some fun accessories and gift items, or a great place to grab a coffee or dessert, these shopping destinations have you covered.

Where to buy ASU gear

You can’t spend four years or more at Arizona State University (or send your kids there) without having a collection of ASU shirts, stickers, license plate holders and other items that are emblazoned with the ASU logo. Tempe has a latte of great coffee spots and per usual I have a ton of puns that I could relate to this…but I won’t. I mean, I can’t espresso to you how brew-ti-ful Tempe is this time of year with a cup of joe in hand. Okay, I will stop, but seriously Tempe is the hub of great coffee. We ask you to step away from the “Bucks” (Starbucks), and seek out the best coffee in Tempe at these local cafes.

Cartel Coffee Lab

Tempe’s coffee claim to fame would have to be Cartel Coffee Lab. Their first shop opened in Tempe a few years back and they now have seven locations, including Phoenix Sky Harbor, Tucson and one location in Palm Springs. Their empire is growing and that’s a very good thing. Cartel’s espresso is top notch and their flavors are out of this world. Each type of coffee is curated and sourced responsibly from countries including El Salvador, Colombia and Rwanda. This coffee shop gets straight to the point with limited menu items, but don’t be fooled, these coffee connoisseurs can whip up just about anything. Don’t feel like leaving your house to get Cartel coffee? No problem. Subscribe and they will deliver it wherever you would like. Now you can Netflix and brew!

Ever wonder how coffee starts from a bean and ends in the delicious cup of coffee that you’re drinking? Before you Google it or ask Siri, check out Press Coffee for their Coffee 101 class, currently offered at their Chandler and Scottsdale locations. This is an interactive coffee learning experience from masters of their craft. Each class will teach you how to evaluate beans and roasts, learn the history of coffee and how it journeys from seed to cup. The goal is to gain a better understanding on how the flavors you taste today are created. It’s like wine tasting, but for coffee! If you don’t have time to join their class, stop in and grab a cup of coffee or one of their delicious food items any day of the week.

Infusion Coffee & Tea Crafters

Infusion is a bit off the beaten path, but once you discover it, you’ll keep coming back for more. It is located next door to Four Peaks Brewing Company, just a stone’s throw from the ASU Tempe Campus. The owner, Patrick O’Malley, travels around the world to teach about coffee and bring the best sourced beans and teas back to Tempe. Patrick has a diploma from the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe and opened the International Barista & Coffee Academy in 2012. So this place is legit. You can get any of your standard coffee beverages, but they also have some interesting twists like The Bee’s Knees (a mix of espresso, lemon and honey) and SpoO’J (a blend of juice and espresso). And, their tea selection is out of this world. They also teach a variety of classes from a Latte Art Workshop to Public Cupping, where you learn all about how coffee is made and why each coffee has a unique flavor.

Romancing the Bean

Originally started in Scottsdale, Romancing the Bean calls Tempe home at the Hayden Ferry Lakeside office complex on Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway. This family-owned establishment has a passion for great coffee and tea and puts time into selecting beans from the finest growing regions in the world. This charming coffeehouse specializes in hot, iced and blended drinks that have been perfected to possess the ideal characteristics for all espresso lovers. I go for the Iced Carmello every time. It’s the perfect mix of espresso and caramel flavor. Pair one of their drinks with a tasty pastry or lunch item. And be sure to go during the week — they’re not open on Saturday or Sunday.

King Coffee

Is it a coincidence that a coffee shop across the street from Arizona State University would do so well? They have a local customer base and gain new fans all the time. This quaint, kind of hipster spot is locally owned by people who truly love coffee. They’ve expanded their space over the years so there are plenty of tables for studying, business meetings or just relaxing with your besties. I’m a big fan of their Iced Chai, with just the right amount of spice. And, you can’t ever go wrong with their Pour Over or Macchiato. Pair a drink with a pastry, bagel or sandwich.

The Blend Boba & Coffeehouse

The Blend is also local to Tempe and combines both Boba and coffee. This place makes me feel right at home, they have all my favorite basic espresso and blended drinks like the caramel macchiato, dirty chai and lattes. Add Honey Boba, Jelly Boba or Popping Boba to any of their loose-leaf teas for extra flavor. The Blend is also budget friendly, so feel free to splurge on a drink or two or three!

Royal Coffee Bar

A hop, skip, and a jump from The Blend lies Royal Coffee Bar. The Royal Coffee Bar & Roasting Company is an independent coffee shop and roastery located in Downtown Tempe. If you are a true coffee fanatic this is your place. They have a clean and simple design giving it a no fuss or fluff appeal. This place means coffee business!

The Crepe Bar

I know what you’re thinking. The Crepe Bar sells crepes and this is a blog about coffee. True, but we had to give The Crepe Bar an honorable mention here. Yes, everyone obsesses about their crepes and for good reason. They’re incredibly tasty. But, your experience isn’t complete here until you’ve tried their coffee. They take it quite seriously, using Presta Coffee from Tucson. Their photogenic and tasty lattes come can come with honey, vanilla, caramel and sea salt and dark chocolate mocha flavors. And, for something truly unique, check out their Molasses Spiced Latte with espresso, black molasses, whipped cream, chocolate shavings and pecans from Arizona. Is it a meal? Is it a coffee? Either way, it is a serious kick-start to your day.

New Discovery: Delante Coffee

Off the beaten path, you’ll find a home-y feeling coffee shop tucked away with lots to discover. I checked it out with my team on a wonderful Wednesday morning, and we were delighted.  Danny, the founder and owner of Delante Coffee has an incredible passion for growing the community that he has grown in. His abuelita (grandma in Spanish) instilled the value of hard work, integrity, faith and community and he wants to continue her legacy with Delante Coffee. They not only serve up a great Spiced Matcha Latte, but other classic drinks like Americanos and Chais.  While there, you should check out their limited food menu. We devoured their breakfast burros. I had the delicious La Blanca Vegetarian Burro (potato and egg) and Rachel had the Chorizo Burro (she says it’s had a great kick to it). So when you’re considering where to grab your next coffee or have a group meeting, check out this quaint spot with lots of passion to offer.

Delante Coffee

Located on the corner of University and Hardy Drive, Delante Coffee is in good company with long time Tempe favorites Cornish Pasty and Rosita’s Mexican Food. Deriving from the Spanish word Adelante, meaning to ‘go forward, onward’, the Delante mission is to honor this meaning by moving forward and helping each customer share their #Adelantestory. Not only does Delante Coffee show their love and passion for the community with each cup of coffee, but they also make what I would declare as the best breakfast burro! I shamefully admit that I tried both burro options, but how could you not when you’re faced with choosing between the El Patron Chorizo Burro or the La Blanca Vegeterian Burro. Pair the burro with their Spiced Matcha Latte or their Mexican Mocha and you will not be disappointed!
