Mouseless is an invisible computer mouse that provides the familiarity of interaction of a physical mouse without actually needing a real hardware mouse

As the computer mouse has remained largely unchanged over the last decades, have become increasingly proficient at operating the two-button mouse. Recently, various multitouch and gestural interaction technologies have been explored as means to implement alternative methods to interact with a computer. Despite these advances in computing hardware technologies, the two-button computer mouse has remained the predominant means to interact with a computer. The Mouseless invention removes the requirement of having a physical mouse altogether but still provides the intuitive interaction of a physical mouse that we are familiar with. Mouseless consists of an Infrared (IR) laser beam (with line cap) and an Infrared camera. Both IR laser and IR camera are embedded in the computer. The laser beam module is modified with a line cap and placed such that it creates a plane of IR laser just above the surface the computer sits on. The user cups their hand, as if a physical mouse was present underneath, and the laser beam lights up the hand which is in contact with the surface. The IR camera detects those bright IR blobs using computer vision. The change in the position and arrangements of these blobs are interpreted as mouse cursor movement and mouse clicks. As the user moves their hand the cursor on screen moves accordingly. When the user taps their index finger, the size of the blob changes and the camera recognizes the intended mouse click.

As Pranavmistry improve our computer vision algorithms, an extensive library of gestures could be implemented in addition to mouse movement and mouse clicks. Typical multitouch gestures, such as zooming in and out, as well as novel gestures, such as balling one’s fist are all possible. In addition, the use of multiple laser beams would allow for recognition of a wider range of free hand motions, enabling novel gestures that the hardware mouse cannot support.

Custom Domain for Your Blogger Blog

Choose and Register Your Domain
The first thing you'll need to do is to choose a domain name, like example.com and register it. You can register domain names from any of a number of different registrars, and you can use .com, .org, .net or any other valid addresses. Remember: you only need to get the domain name; you don't have to pay extra for hosting service. The easiest way to register a domain is to buy your domain directly through Blogger. If you go this route, we'll automatically configure all of your relevant DNS settings and attach your new domain to your existing blog immediately.

Update the DNS Settings

DNS stands for Domain Name System, and a DNS server determines what site a given address takes you to. So far, you have a domain name but none of the servers on the internet know what to do with it yet. To take care of this, you need to do two things:

Create a CNAME record for your blog's address, which should be a subdomain of the form

www.example.com.
To create a CNAME record for your domain with the DNS, associating your domain with:

ghs.google.com.

The exact procedure for doing this varies depending on your domain registrar, but you can find instructions for many common registrars here. If yours isn't listed, or if you run into other difficulties, you can contact your registrar directly and they'll be able to help you out.
Create 'A' NAME records for your naked domain (blog.com)

Note: The following information applies to naked domains only!! If you're setting up a subdomain then this does NOT apply to you! :-)
Creating A records for your naked domain is important as it allows Google to redirect people who use in your naked domain name (blog.com) to your blog page (www.example.com). If you do not do this, visitors who leave off the www will see an error page.
There are four separate A records you will create, and can be done from the same control panel you accessed your CNAME records. Simply point your naked domain (example.com, without the 'www') to each of the following IP addresses:

Your DNS setup is now complete!

Update Your Blogger Settings
Almost done! At this point, you have a domain name, and the DNS servers know to direct people to Google when they want to see your blog. But Google hosts lots of blogs, so we have to make sure the right one is associated with this domain. You'll do this on the Settings Publishing tab for your blog in Blogger.

Required Field Must Not Be Blank (Blogger)

Any blogger who recently have tried to add or edit a gadget (page element) which did not have a title for the gadget must have come across this problem - the gadget cannot be saved without a title. Error message - "Required field must not be blank"

One way to solve the problem is of course to give them what they want - a title for the gadget. But then many don't want that, so how?

There is a simple solution, a trick if you may, to this problem. Put the HTML comment tag

as per below mentioned picture..

into the box (field) for the title. Such HTML comment tag will not be displayed in any browser.

Worst Things To Have On Your Blog or Website

Flash – Can we say 1990′s? No one likes sitting there while it loads and then having to click past an intro just to arrive to some more flashing photos.
Music – Please, please, get rid of it or make it optional to start. People will either click away as soon as they hear the music or go insane as they try to find the window that’s making that crazy noise.
More ad’s than content – If your ad’s are taking centre stage, you will get no credibility.
Pop up’s – I can handle pop up ‘join my mailing list’ ads but anything other than that means I will never again return to your site. In saying that though, let me at least read what you’ve written so I can choose whether you’re worth following or not.
Really Bad english – A little bit of error can be tolerated but if it is glaringly obvious that you’ve never had to speak english to communicate for the sake of survival, you should probably be looking to outsource your writing or write in your native language and use something like Google Translator.
Loooong Blog Posts – If it’s going to take forever to say it, break it up. Create a series.
Broken links – Check, check and triple check! Or install this if you use WordPress.
Making people register to comment – You’re likely to lose many commentors if you choose to go this route.
Spam – Take precautions with your blog to ensure as little spam as possible gets through.
Bad content – Reading a post about something we’ve read a hundred times before isn’t interesting.
Writing like a professor – No one wants a lecture!
Lack of images – Try to include a photo in each of your posts.
Caps lock – I can’t believe I still come across this. Caps in text is the equivalent to yelling, SO USE IT WITH CAUTION.
wRiTiNg LiK dIs – Wow. Just wow. Really? Need I say more?
Writing about how perfect your child is – I see this a lot as well. It’s great to be proud of your child, I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t be but make sure you don’t overdose your readers with how wonderful little Jamima is at everything. I mean goodness… I have four. I know the deal.
Your site is ugly – There are some extremely bad tasting blog and website designs out there! Search for a talented designer. I use Swish Development.
I click on a link I thought was part of your site and suddenly I’m somewhere completely different – A reader should only leave your blog if they choose to.
The design of you site changes on each page – Only use one template for your all over design.
Slow loading pages – Keep images small and minimise posts on your homepage.
I can’t read the first post on your blog without clicking through – This is a big pet peeve of mine. I want to be able to read at least one post by landing on your blog’s homepage.
There’s no search function for your site – Sometimes people come back for a specific post. If you don’t have a search tool they have to scroll through pages and pages of posts. This isn’t likely to happen so instead you lose the reader and a possible link back.

How to customise address bar icon(favicon)

When you publish a blog with Blogger, the default favicon which appears in your browser navigation bar is Blogger’s favicon (the unmistakable orange and white logo).

Many Blogger users choose to display their own favicon instead of Bloggers, in order to “brand” their blog with memorable icons in keeping with their blog’s design. It is actually quite easy to add our own favicon to our Blogger blogs, and instantly adds a sense of professionality to your overall design.

In this post, I’ll explain how easy it is to add a favicon to your Blogger blog, along with resources for designing your own favicon and where you can host this for free.

What is a favicon?

The word “favicon” is short for “favourites icon”, and is a 16×16px square icon which is associated with a website (or blog). Browsers which support favicons will usually display a website’s favicon in the address bar (to the left of the URL), and next to the page’s name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers which support tabbed navigation (such as Firefox and IE8) will also display the favicon next to the page title on each tab.

Favicons are usually found on the root of a domain, and use the .ico extension. For example, the favicon for Blogging Tips can be found here: http://www.bloggingtips.com/favicon.ico

Blogger users do not have access to the root of their blog hosting. This means that unless an alternate favicon is specified, Blogger’s favicon will display in browsers accessing Blogger powered sites.

In order to add a custom favicon to be displayed in the browser of sites accessing a Blogger powered blog, we need to:

Create our own favicon

Upload this to an image host

Edit the Blogger template to reference this alternative favicon.

Let’s go through these steps in order.

How to create your own favicon for Blogger

A favicon is a small image, measuring 16×16 pixels. Favicons are usually made with the .ico extension, though it’s also possible to use .GIF and .PNG files to reference a favicon.

If you are a budding ‘Photoshopper’, you can create your own favicon from scratch. Don’t forget to use a canvas measuring 16 pixels square (or create a square image which can be reduced to this size) and save as a .GIF or .PNG image.

Those who already use a recognised icon for their site/blog logo can easily generate a favicon using one of these free services:

Upload your favicon to the web

While Blogger does not offer hosting for files we use in our blogs (eg: JavaScript, documents and HTML files), we can upload images for use in our blog posts which are hosted by Picasa.

After uploading an image to our blog post (even if this post is not published) we can extract the URL of the image and reference this in our Blogger template code. Surprisingly, we can upload .ico files to our blog posts with Blogger (as well as any .PNG or .GIF favicons you may have created too).

To upload your favicon to Picasa through your blog, simply create a new blog post and choose to insert an image in your post. Choose the favicon you have created/generated/downloaded and upload this to your post.

Then either preview your post or view in the rich text editor so your favicon image can be seen on the screen. Right click this favicon and choose to copy the location of the image. Save this to your clipboard or paste into a text file for easy reference.

If you prefer to use a different host for your favicon, here are a few free hosts which support .ico files:

As before, copy the location of your icon file to yoru clipboard or paste in a text file for easy reference.

Add the reference for your favicon to your Blogger template

The final step to creating a custom favicon for Blogger is referencing the favicon in your Blogger template code.

To do this, go to Layout>Edit HTML in your Blogger template. You do not need to check the “Expand widget templates” box.

Search for the closing </head> tag in your template using your browser’s search function.

Immediately before this line, paste the following section of code, substituting YOUR-FAVICON-URL for the URL where your favicon is hosted:

<link href='YOUR-FAVICON-URL' rel='shortcut icon'/>

Then save your template. Now when you view your blog in your browser, you should see your favicon appear beside the web address and in the bookmarks folder (if you have bookmarked your site).

Note: it is very important that you paste the favicon tags just before the closing </head> tag, not earlier in the template code. This is because Blogger generates favicon tags when your blog pages are generated which would otherwise override your custom favicon references.

Important information when using custom favicons for Blogger blogs

If you use Internet Explorer 6 or older, the favicon will not appear unless you have bookmarked your blog and refreshed your browser.

Also, any services which automatically extract the favicon for a site (such as Blogger’s “Feed” and “Blog List” gadgets) will still reference the Blogger favicon rather than our own custom favicons. This is because such auto-discovery scripts reference the favicon hosted on the same server as the website, rather than the favicon which is referenced in the HTML code of the page. As yet, there is no way to present our custom favicons to services which automatically discover the favicon for a site.

Dealing with Comments

We all not a complete/perfect writer or personality.It doesn’t matter how well written an article is, how much you’ve researched and gotten the facts down, there’s always someone out there just looking for a someone to attack. I get my fair share. I’m almost sure I will get nasty comments on this post.

Why?

I’ve come to several conclusions.

1. They’re just looking for a back link and traffic any way they can get it; even at the expense of a writer. Unfortunately, there are people in the world who thrive on chaos and stirring up a fuss.

2. They can’t think of anything intelligent to say in response to your material so they have to rip you apart for being a human writer.

3. They have no tactful way of pointing out an error you’ve made. This is either due to limited vocabulary or intelligence.

4. It’s easier to point out someone else’s fault than it is to look at your own.

5. Some people have nothing better to do.

I’ve been chided for missing one word in an entire article. Do I take these seriously? It really depends on who’s doing the chiding and how well written the comment is.

How do you handle these people? Here’s a few of my best tips. If you have others, please feel free to share them.

1. If it’s your own blog, you have several options; you can simply delete the comment, retaliate and defend yourself or ignore it.

I often choose to ignore them. Most readers are smart enough to spot those types of people who are just looking to stir something up. I leave the comments to let the readers judge the intelligence (or lack thereof) for themselves.

Yes, it is possible the readers will click the profile link and give them the traffic they seek. But it’s short lived traffic.

Defending yourself in these matters can be tricky business. You don’t want to present yourself in a bad light with the readers. Stooping to someone else’s level rarely gets you anywhere. It simply brings you down. If the comment is bad enough to force your hand into action, it’s best to delete the comment and be done with it.

2. If it’s a guest or paid post on another blog, you still have basically the same options as above, except you will need the blog owner to investigate and make the decision if the comment should be deleted.

I also suggest that you not argue with the commenter on someone else’s blog. In my personal experience, I’ve always thanked the commenter for pointing out something I’ve missed. I am human. I’ve also had the same commenter return and keep trying to rile me up; obviously showing my appreciation to them wasn’t enough. In those cases, I ignore any other comments from them.

Simply thank them and move on. If they return, ignore them or bring it to the attention of the blog owner. The majority of other readers and commenters simply ignore these types of people as well.

There are NO perfect writers in the world. I’ve seen mistakes by writers with a degree in journalism and/or majored in English. I’ve seen mistakes by #1 New York Times Best Selling Authors and I’ve seen mistakes by writers who don’t have a degree but are still great writers. I have many writer friends who hold degrees and have an exceptional grasp of grammar and punctuation. They make mistakes as well. We miss things. We are human.

I personally find it quite inspirational to find a mistake by writers I consider better than I am, writers who have more education and are experts in their field. Why? Because I know I don’t have to live up to some invisible standard that doesn’t really exist in the first place. It’s also refreshing to know that, yes, writers are human. We are not robots or pre-programmed computers. We make mistakes. Sometimes we miss those mistakes. If you want to point them out, feel free to do so. We’d appreciate it, especially if you do so out of kindness instead of meanness.

Unfortunately, there are those who’d rather look for and point out a mistake than to take the context of the material and use it. We can’t stop or avoid those people, but we don’t have to acknowledge them either.

Allow me to repeat something extremely important: There are NO perfect writers in the world.

What good is 1,000 visitors a day if most of them don’t return? Traffic figures alone might make you feel good, but it doesn’t get you any desired results.

It’s all about quality over quantity. 100 dedicated readers beats out 1,000 passer-by visitors.

Here are 10 ways to convert your blog visitors into dedicated readers:

1. Be Yourself

This is slap-in-the-forehead common sense. But some bloggers try to be someone they’re not just because that type of personality is successful.

Just be yourself. Not only is it easy when you don’t have to force an unnatural persona, but you’ll have a 100% genuine and desirable voice.

On my blog Lifebeat, I’m completely myself. And it’s so easy not having to worry about projecting a certain image. I just write how I talk. Very relaxed and informal. I keep it simple and to-the-point. I inject jokes and music references. I constantly share personal examples. And since I’m a huge anime fan, all my articles have anime images rather than Flickr or iStock Photo ones.

Are you funny? Be funny. Serious? Be serious. Angry? Be angry.

Just be yourself.

2. Put the Reader Experience First

What makes you return to a restaurant? Chances are it’s not just the food but the experience.

Great articles alone aren’t enough. You also need a great reader experience. If you want visitors to convert into dedicated readers, you need a website people want to regularly return to.

That means don’t do anything on your blog that’ll compromise the reader experience. Translation: don’t annoy your visitors.

Common offenders: too many popups, ads, social bookmarking buttons, and subscribe links.

Just look at some of the most successful blogs: Daily Blog Tips, Problogger, Copyblogger and so on. No popups, and very light ads, social bookmarking buttons, and subscribe links.

I designed Lifebeat to put the reader experience first. Very clean, very simple, and the content is at the forefront. There’s no popups, no ads, no anything that would detract from enjoying reading one of my articles.

If someone really wants to subscribe or share your article on Twitter, they’ll do it. Don’t annoy and turn them away, losing what could’ve become a dedicated reader.

3. Focus on Benefits to the Reader, Not Your Features

If you want dedicated readers, your blog should focus on what the benefit is to the visitor. Not just your thoughts and ideas but value to a visitor.

Answer the “so what” question for new visitors: what’s in it for them? Why should they care?

Instead of putting the spotlight on what features my blog has, I focus on the benefit to visitors: helping you maximize your life. Ideas and strategies to help you do more of what you love and are passionate about. Not only do I state it in the About page and anywhere else, but that’s the focus I have for each article I write: how can I help and provide value to you, the reader.

Visitors care what you can do for them (benefits), not what thoughts and ideas you have (features). Focus on benefits, not features.

4. Write for Humans, Not Search Engines

Who reads your blog? People. So write for them.

Some bloggers make the mistake of writing articles solely based on highly-searched keywords. That results in nothing-new, unremarkable traffic bait. They might get search engine traffic, but very few visitors will be converted into readers.

The best search engine optimization is amazing content. Not website tweaks. Not a WordPress plugin. Not meta whozawhutsit. But amazing content.

If people like your articles, they’ll share it on social media, blogs, email, and even word of mouth. You’ll get higher-quality links, too, since it’s interested people linking to you. And, as Daniel here or Darren of Problogger and Brian of Copyblogger will tell you, high-quality backlinks are the ultimate SEO.

Now, optimizing for search engines can help with search traffic. And if you find a keyword phrase that happens to fit what you were going to write about anyway, go ahead and use it.

I don’t consider searched keywords when writing an article. Only once I have an idea down, I’d use the Google keywords tool to see if there’s a wording for the topic that people use most often. If not, I don’t worry about it at all. I never once let keywords dictate what I’ll write.

But put your message first – don’t compromise it. Make search engine considerations a distant second to writing what you have to say.

Write for people first, optimize for search engine traffic later.

5. Be Consistent

Choose a posting schedule and stick to it no matter what. Build a cache of articles or schedule your posts if needed.

I clearly state that I post a new article on Lifebeat every Monday and Thursday. I’ve stuck to that schedule ever since I started and haven’t missed a day yet.

Consistent readers need consistent updates to return to. Provide it for them.

They’ll know when to expect a new article, just like how people regularly check in to their favorite webcomics and news sites on certain days.

6. Make It Easy for Visitors to Subscribe

The more you have to work to get something, the less likely you’ll take the time to get it. Right? Don’t even try to deny it. That’s why iTunes is killing it in music sales: it couldn’t be easier to find and download a tune.

Be like iTunes on your blog. Make it clear and simple for visitors to be able to subscribe via email and RSS feed. Remove as many doors for your visitors as possible.

A visitor who subscribes is much more likely to convert into a dedicated reader. This is because your visitors can read your latest articles from the convenience of their email inbox or RSS feed reader. Your stuff is sent to them, so even after they forget about your blog they’ll still get your new articles, increasing the chance of them reading regularly (and maybe even sharing or buying your stuff).

Putting an RSS and mail icon in a sidebar isn’t enough. Make the subscribe option on your blog as non-cryptic and easy as possible.

Only a small percentage of your visitors will actually know what what an RSS or mail icon mean. Spell it out for the rest of your visitors, including why they should subscribe (it saves them time and energy because new content is delivered directly to them).

And people love free stuff, so don’t forget to mention that visitors can subscribe for free. Magazine subscriptions still have some thinking that subscribing to anything means paying.

I have a simple design on Lifebeat, so the subscribe buttons are in plain sight and clearly marked. I also explain in a short sentence what it means to subscribe and why a visitor should do it… and of course I mention that it’s free.

7. Be Remarkable

Be unique. Be great. Amplify yourself.

Don’t try to be the best in some field where you could never dominate. Instead, do what Seth Godin says: create your own category and dominate it. Analyze and figure out your unique traits, then crank them up to a 10.

People aren’t going to be interested in yet another productivity, personal finance, time management, self improvement, or whatever blog that says nothing new. Use #3 (Be Yourself) and amplify your unique traits.

I also have child-like curiosity, not limiting myself to how I “should” act – an eternal kid in an adult’s world. Would you return to a blog that bores you or doesn’t excite you? Of course not. So be interesting to read, and visitors will start converting into dedicated readers.

8. Talk With Your Visitors

It really is that simple: talk with your visitors. Reply to their comments and emails, send thank-you notes if they leave a comment or subscribe, or whatever else.

Use what works best for you (and doesn’t compromise your personal style – remember, be yourself). Email, comments, Twitter, whatever. But use at least one method of communication, so that visitors can form a relationship with you and feel like they’re reading from someone they know (or know that they can contact, at least).

I’ve never been comfortable on social networks and instant messenger, but blog comments and email have been natural for me. So I focus on posting and responding to comments and sending and replying to emails as my forms of communication with my visitors and readers. I also try to regularly send out thank-you emails.

People regularly return to something that they’ve formed a relationship or connection with. Think about it: you care way more about what your friends are doing than strangers.

9. Be Unconventional

Say something new that gets people thinking, motivated, and/or take action.

If you piss them off, that’s great too – there’s no such thing as bad publicity, and controversy gets visitors interested (just ask Seth Godin, Tim Ferriss, or Steve Pavlina).

I’m constantly pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone and become even less self-conscious by writing about unconventional topics (or at least an unconventional perspective on something). Heck, even I would get bored of my own writing if I played it safe.

If your article is no different from the latest blurbs that day, your visitors will treat it at such: a quick skim-through and then move on.

Get visitors thinking and talking and you increase the chance of them coming back for more (and maybe even bringing some friends along).

10. Have Fun

A blog isn’t a cubicle job, so just have fun.

People want to enjoy what they consume. If you have fun writing an article, chances are people will have fun reading it. And people tend to return and consume more of what’s fun and enjoyable.

I have so much fun writing and making music on Lifebeat it should be illegal. Like, I’ll be writing an article or creating a new tune or mix, and an alarm will sound. Woo woo woo! It’s the fun alarm: someone’s having way too much fun.

Have fun, and your blog will be fun – and visitors will start converting into dedicated readers.

Friends and family members often ask me how to start a blog, and I always enjoy explaining the advantages of a blog over a traditional website, but it is a lot information to take in over dinner. I thought I would document the process to make it easier to understand.
1. Decide What You Want To Blog About
There are a lot of bloggers on the web already. If you want to attract readers, you are going to need to establish your credibility. Don't just blog about anything. Pick a topic you are passionate about. Something that you have lots of experience with. that may be music,life,love,religion,passion,collageday, anything it will work but you should have at least 'some ‘description capacity on the subject.

2.Decide: To Host or Not To Host

When it comes to starting a blog, your biggest decision will be whether you want to host the blog yourself, or use a free blogging service that is hosted for you.

Yes, it's free, but nothing is really free. When you start a blog with a free blogging service, you don't get your own domain. You get something like bloggideas.blogspot.com (where there are a million other blogs
at blogspot.com) and you don't actually own the blog. If you ever do decide to move to your own domain, you have no way to take your readers with you, because you have no control over the site. but this is best way I prefer. you don’t want to really pay a single penny for blog. It does not require that much technical skill and designing knowledge in html or any other language.

You must have a gmail email account to create a blog using Blogger.com. If you don't have one, simply go to gmail.com and create one. Consider creating a new, separate email address just for your blog, so that if you get a lot of feedback from your posts it will not clog your personal inbox.

Step:1

Once you have an gmail account set up, go to the Blogger.com website. You will notice a welcome page that asks you to sign up for a new account. Click on the "Create Your Blog Now" arrow. Enter your email address and create a password. Then click on the "Continue" arrow.

Step:2

Create a blog title. You should choose a name that describes your blog's content, and gives it individuality. You can also use this name in the url address. For example if you name the blog, "Testblog" the url address will be www.testblog.blogspot.com. All blogger account blog pages have web addresses that end in blogspot.com. You can upgrade to advanced options that include hosting your blog elsewhere.

Step:3

Create a template for your blog. This is the style and look of your web page. Blogger already has some preset designs that you can use. If you want to create your own template using your own HTML coding, you can do that as well.

Step:5

Access your blog's dashboard. This is where you can create blog posts. Under your blog title there is a highlighted blue button that says "New Post." Once you click on this button you will open a "Create Post" page, this is where you will write your content.

Step:6

Use your "Create Post" page to create hyperlinks and changing font styles and colors . At the top of the post box there are icons for all of these things. To change the font, click on drop-down box that says font, and choose from the list. To change the font color, click on the icon that has the letter "T" with a color palette behind it, and pick your color. To create a hyperlink, highlight the text you want to link, click the icon with a globe and chain around it, and a small box will pop up. Simply enter the url address into the box and click OK.

Step:7

To add a photo image there is an icon with a picture of a mountain and the sky on it. Click on this and an "Upload Photos" window pops up. Within this window, you can add up to five images at a time, and choose the layout of your photos. You decide whether they are placed on the left, right or center of your post. You can upload photos from your computer, or by pasting the photo's url in the "Add Image" box.

First of all a big “thank you” for every one who participated. As I said before the number of entries surprised me (and the quality as well, I will definitely apply some of those tips myself).
Now, without further delay, the 30 Traffic Generation TipS:

1. Sridhar KatakamKeep track of blogs and leave comments on them. A good way to keep the conversation going is to install a MyBlogLog widget and visit the blog of people visiting your site.

2. Ian DelaneyNothing creates long-term traffic more than value. Consider writing posts with resources or explaining how things work. Useful things get linked to and they get onto del.icio.us, which is far better long-term than a digg front page.

3. Scott TownsendInform search engines and aggregators like Technorati (using the ping functionality) when your blog is updated, this should ensure maximum traffic coming from those sources. (check the List of Ping Services)

4. KyleSimplify. Pay attention to complex issues in your field of work. It may be a big long publication that is hard to wade through or a concept that is hard to grasp. Reference it and make a shorter “for dummies” version with your own lessons learned and relevant tips. The easiest way to seed your blog is with an already existing community. But the only way to do that is to be part of the community yourself.

21. Jen GordonI came upon some unexpected traffic when my blog popped up on some css design portals like www.cssmania.com and www.webcreme.com. If you can put some time into the concept behind and design for your blog, I’d recommend submitting your site to a design portal not only foradditional traffic but to build an additional community around your site.

25. Tillerman Be the first to write a post about the ‘Top Ten Blogs’ in your niche. The post will rank highly in any general search for blogs in your niche and other bloggers in your niche write about the post and link to it.

26. NickParticipating in forums is a great way to get loyal readers. Either link baiting people in your signature or posting great advice and tips will give you high quality traffic, which will result in return visitors.

27. Brandon WoodA simple trick I’ve used to increase traffic to my blog is participate in group writing projects. In fact, that’s what I’m doing right now.
28. Alan ThomasDon’t forget your archives. I just posted a roundup of all interviews I did over the past seven months. One of them generated a new link and a big traffic spike from a group of users that look like they will be loyal readers now.

29. KWizWrite something controversial. I don’t think it’s good to write something controversial just for the purpose of getting traffic necessarily (especially if it’s only for that purpose and you’re being disingenuous), but it works.

30. Dennis CoughlinFind the best blogs on your niche and contact the authors. Introduce yourself and send a link of your blog. This might help them to discover your blog, read it and possibly link to it.
