• Title – It’s the Main Tittle or heading of your blog.  You can write anything as our blog’s heading. Make sure the title can describe the content of your blog, because this title will shown on search engine pages.

• Send Pings – Just choose “YES” on it.

Blogspot Formatting Settings

• Show – This is to organize how many article that we shown in front  page. Fewer article in front page will make more quickly when the page is opened by the visitor’s browser.
• Date Header Formats – To organize the publishing date.
• Archive Index Date Format – To organize the archives date.
• Timestamp Format – To organize the time.

Blogspot Archiving Settings

• Archive Frequency – To set up the archiving frequency. This setting is related to Post Archive widget.
• Enable Post Pages? – If we click on “YES”, every article will have its own URL address.

Blogspot Site Feed Settings

• Allow Blog Feed – This setting is to allow reader to read your articles from RSS Feed.
• Feed Item Footer – This is to enclose (ex: banner) on RSS Feed’s footer.

Blogspot Email Settings

• BlogSend Address – If you want to sent your article to our friend every we post a new article automatically, we can type our friend’s email address here.

Permission Settings

Use this options if we will upload and image from PC to our blog. Click on “Browse”, then mark the image that we want to upload . We can upload 5 images at the same time by click on “Add Another Image”.

Add an Image from the Web

Use this options to upload image from another website. Type the image URL  that we will upload to Blogspot post. Click on “Add Another Image” if we want to upload more images.

Choose a Layout

Use This options to rearrange the image position on article. We will see different position that we can choose to place our image on the article. Remember, we could not change the image arrangement if we already uploaded it. If we want to rearrange the image position, we have to delete it and then upload the image once again.

Image Size

Use this options to resize the  image if we think its too big. if it so, we should choose small or medium size, it means the image will not appear as a full size image. It helps to make a faster image loading.

Click check box “I Accept the Terms of Service”, if it’s not already checked, then click on “Upload Image”. Wait for a while, Blogspot will show us the process of uploading our images. Click “Done” if the process has been finished.

It’s not like the other editor, the image that we already upload will shown on the top of our article. You have to drag and drop the image to position that we want to place it.

Click on “Sign In” and we will faced the Dashboard Page. It is to access the whole functions, to organize our blog, like Post, Setting, and Layout.

Post an Article on Blogspot

From Dashboard Page, we can start writing an article by click on link “New Post” like shown on the image below.

Then we’ll see to worksheet screen. this worksheet featuring functions to create and to edit our article. This Text Editor also WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) features. It means our article that we edit will appear as when it’s published (although it’s not same 100%).

To write or posting an article on Blogpot, we can using some third party text editor.  These editors have the same or even better tools and functionality such as offline blogging features. For example, we can use BlogJet, MS Front Page, and off course very powerful Mozilla Firefox’s addons called ScribeFire. further explanation about these 3rd party text editor will be wrtten in another blogger tutorial article in this blog.

Title

Type our article’s title here. Remember, title is not file’s name. If we want to make a link between pages, we will use file’s name, not title.

Link

Fill address from other articles which related to our article (from our blog or others). If not, we not need to fill it.

Recover Post

It’s functioned to change back the article that already edited. Use this function if we doing mistake in editing.

Font

Blogspot featuring  some font that we can choose, although it’s not have a lot of. How to using this function is same as if we want to change font on MS Word or the other Text Editor’s application. Just mark on the sentences, paragraphs. Or whole page (with CTRL+A), then choose font that we will use

Font Size

To adjust the font size, we can use the key that available to resizing font.

Bold and Italic Writing

To write thick words, use the B button (Bold), and to write in italic, use the I button (Italic).

Color

Blogspot Text Editor also make have font color changing features. We can use it by click on the color button

Link

This is the way to make a link: 1).Mark/highlight  the text which will we take as a link, 2). Click on “Link” button, 3).Type link address on dialogue box, 4)Click “OK”

Align

If we often using MS Word, alignment is not an odd thing. So it’s not necessary to explained there.

Bullet and Number List

The function of these keys are to make a list. It’s also not an odd thing, same as Align.

Check Spelling

This facility is to check article’s spelling, if we write in English.

Add Image

For the first post about blogging tutorial in Blogspot Basic section, we will talk about how to make or start a blog using Blogspot a.k.a Blogger. Blogspot or Blogger is Google’s free features to makes a blog. Blogger is one kind from a lot of platforms which we usually use to make a blog. this article will talk about how to make an account or sign-up on Blogger or Blogspot, and how to make a blog there. Ok, Lets start it.. 

For the first step, go to this web address http://www.blogspot.com,  or just click this image below, and we will go to sign-up form which we must fill with our identity.

How to Fill the Sign-up Form
This is guidance to fill the blogger sign-up form :

• Email Address : Fill it with our email address, or we can create an email account then, if we don’t have it.
• Enter a Password   :  Fill it with password that we easy to remember
• Retype Password   :  Please re-write our password here
• Display Name       : Name that we want to be displayed in our posts
• Word Verivication   : Fill it with alphabet that shown on the image
• Acceptance of Term  : Click on the check box “I Accept the Terms of Service”, it means we agree to follow the rules on Terms of Service. We can read the rules by click on “Terms of Service” link.

After finishing to fill up all necessary field above, simply click the right arrow as shown below

 If we have finished to fill the form correctly, we will go ahead to form which we can give title to our blog, just as shown below

1. Blog Title  : We can make title for our blog here. We can change it if we need.
2. Blog Address (URL)  : It’s your blog’s address. Ex: if we type “myblog”, so our blog address is http://myblog.blogspot.com. Click on “Check Availability” to check if the address were used. If it available, it means we can use this address for our blog. If it’s not available, it means we have to looking for other blog address and check the availability again. How do I know this?

Google have recently made public the contents of their filing of United States Patent Application 20050071741 on March 31 2005. In which many of the search giants secret ranking criteria is revealed and it makes very interesting reading. You must read this if you are serious about ranking well in Google. The
days of Spaming Google are drawing to a close. With this patent they reveal just how hard they’re coming down on Spam sites. You Do Not want to get caught out.

Here are the facts.

• Links.
It’s common knowledge that Google relies heavily on inbound relevant links to rank a site. Now they explain exactly how it works.

As well as the number, quality and anchor text factors of a link. Google seems to also consider historical factors. Apparently the Google ’sandbox’ or aging delay begins count down the minute links to a new site are discovered.

Google records the discovery of a link, link changes over time, the speed at which a site gains links and the link life span. With this in mind fast link acquisition may be a strong indicator of potential search engine Spam.

Gone are the days of pages and pages full of links. You must grow your links slowly to stay below the radar and be careful who you exchange links with. That means no more buying hundreds of links at once or other underhand tactics.

PR is now very valuable.

Your link anchor text should vary but remain consistent with your site content. No more using your main keywords on every link exchange you gain. That’s ‘anchor Spam’. Instead vary them around your top five to ten keywords.

Link exchanges are still very important but you must work and utilize them ethically. If you don’t and you get caught the recovery from a ban can be months in coming and your host and IP may also be recorded.

Softly softly seems to be the message. The fact is fewer but better quality links will benefit you more anyway and they will be much more likely to be long-term which is also good.

• Site click through rates (CTR)

CTR may now be monitored through cache, temporary files, bookmarks and favorites via the Google toolbar or desktop tools. Many have suspected for some time that sites are reward for good CTR with a raise in ranking. Similar to how Adwords works.

CTR is monitored to see if fresh or stale content is preferred for a search result.

CTR is also analyzed for increases or decreases relating to trends or seasons.

• Web page rankings are recorded and monitored for changes.

• The traffic to a web page is recorded and monitored over time.

• Sites can be ranked seasonally. A ski site may rank higher in the winter than in the summer.

Google can monitor and rank pages by recording CTR changes by season.

• Bookmarks and favorites could be monitored for changes, deletions or additions.

• User behaviour in general could be monitored.

As Google is capable of tracking traffic to your site you should closely monitor the small amount of copy returned in search results. Ideally you want to integrate a call to action in there to increase your listings CTR.

Clicks away from your site back to the search results are also monitored. Make your site as sticky as possible to keep visitors there longer. As mentioned above it may also help if you could get your visitors to bookmark you.

• The frequency and amount of page updates is monitored and recorded as is the number of pages.

Mass updates of hundreds of files will see you pop up on the radar.On the other hand few or small updates to your site could see your rankings slide. Unless your CTR is good. A stale page that receives good traffic may hold it’s own and not require an update. So don’t update for the sake of it.

A further indicator that Google is really cracking down on Spam is made clear in the following extract from the Patent. Mention is made of changing the focus of multiple pages at once.

Here’s the quote -

“A significant change over time in the set of topics associated with a document may indicate that the document has changed owners and previous document indicators, such as score, anchor text, etc., are no longer reliable.

Similarly, a spike in the number of topics could indicate Spam. For example, if a particular document is associated with a set of one or more topics over what may be considered a ’stable’ period of time and then a (sudden) spike occurs in the number of topics associated with the document, this may be an indication that the document has been taken over as a ‘doorway’ document.

Another indication may include the sudden disappearance of the original topics associated with the document. If one or more of these situations are detected, then [Google] may reduce the relative score of such documents and/or the links, anchor text, or other data associated the document.”

There’s still more to look out for:-

• Changes in on page keyword density is monitored and recorded as are changes to anchor text.

• The domain name owner address is considered, most likely to help in a local search result.

• The technical and admin contact details are checked for consistency. These are often falsified for Spam domains.

• Your hosts IP address. If you are on a shared server it’s possible somebody else on that server is using dirty tactics or Spaming. If so your site will suffer since you share the same IP.

The impression I get here is that Google have learned from the Spam ‘attack’ they suffered in early 2004 and they are determined to eradicate it from their listing results.

So what do you do?

You can’t go far wrong with your SEO if you try to grow your site as organically as possible.Carry on with link exchanges but consider each site carefully and slow down in your gathering of them. Vary your anchor text. Add small amounts of good quality content to your site regularly.

Check your search engine listings and edit your site to include a call to action in them if possible. Make your site more ’sticky’ to encourage visitors to stay a while. Encourage visitors to Bookmark your site. Oh and register new domain names for at least two years.

Overall keep it ethical and you can’t go far wrong.
Stick to the guidelines above and you are much more likely to outlast and out rank your competition.
