Besides the personal nature which is this ladies journey to weight loss, it also acts a bit as a resource sharing nutritional information, recipes, reviews etc…

It Sux To be Fat is updated quite regularly with several updates a week showing on the front page. The design is really nice and the blog has a professional feel to it which is a nice mix with the very personal nature of the content. Jennifer has published over 100 posts and if you’ve been keeping score, she’s losing weight.

Several recent posts include: Fiber One Brownies Review, How To Lose 4 Pounds In A Week and Two Bags of Rocks – Weekly Weigh In. It’s nice how on the front page it has not only personal content that reinforces integrity regarding the weigh in, a product review and an informational page. Believe that this mix is a good one for the blog.

I’d recommend Jennifer start networking more and a powerful way to do so would be to add a blog roll and start contacting other bloggers she respects in the niche. This will help increase the visibility of her blog to readers in the niche. Would also suggest that perhaps she keep a counter on the page to mark the progress and how long it took as a symbol of credibility and inspiration to others.

Finally would also recommend doing some research into what are popular search queries for the industry and targeting some of the relevant ones with posts on that topic. If she meets her goal and builds a community, perhaps an e-book on the topic could come later as there are countless ways to lose weight and she seems to be doing it.

This blog gets a 4.6/5, it’s a great blog it just needs more light to grow.

Stern Thoughts is a humorous blog that could best be described as somewhat warped to the vanilla crowd. It’s written by a gent in his 40’s who practices law and apparently has a hobby of writing comical thoughts online. The blog is quite new in its second month but the activity and content is there, it could possibly be one of those blogs that sticks around for the long haul.

This blog is basically updated daily with funny stories or random thoughts from the author. The content of this blog will draw you in and you’ll find yourself reading more than you had original came for. One may even be hitting the next page button in no time. It’s easy to read and in each entry my face has made at least a slight smirk based on the amusing and sometimes ridiculous content of the entries. An entry that I found particularly enjoyable was “The Shame of it“.

This is a good blog that is seriously suffering from lack of design. That’s “OK” though as it’s new and after these suggestions should be on way to being a great blog. I’m suggesting a completely new theme. There are thousands of free ones to choose from and customize before spending cash on a professional design. The header says little about the blog and the color makes it hard to read.

Furthermore, an appropriate graphic for each update would do wonders to draw readers in. Also if the posts were made into snippets where the reader can click “read more” it would better help organize the quality content. On the topic of organization, some categorization would be nice to help readers in the future find posts of a particular nature.

This blog gets a 3.7/5, loses most of its points for the layout and readability.

The Holloway Consulting’s Construction Experts Blog is what the title suggests and more. This blog covers a diverse range of issues and answers many questions in the construction industry. Questions range from the Hoover Dam Bypass arbitration to residential construction. It also offers a few entries showcasing the work of Holloway Construction.

This blog has a considerable amount of content for only having been around a few months (archives go back to May 2011). It is also well organized and easy to read. One suggestion would be to add snippets to the entries as now the front page is very long which may lead some readers to miss part of the content provided.

For those involved in a construction project or working in the industry it could be seen as a useful resource. I was particularly drawn to the blog addressing “residential construction disputes“, which could save a lot of time and effort in the planning and design stage of your house renovation, if you started here first. Avoiding problems before they occur is always a good plan.

The majority of the content is quite technical and not for faint of heart and the blog heavily leverages it’s content to sell Holloway construction. Believe it could be just as effective without pushing the product so much and having less posts on the front page. By doing so it could utilize the sidebar more effectively to draw in clients from the content of the blog.

This blog scores a 3.2/5 at the moment.

Written in plain English and free from unnecessary technical terminology, You Are Not So Smart manages to make pretty complex, high level decision making theories and the idea of cognitive biases easily understood by the average Joe. His journalistic background means the writing is of an exceptionally high quality and filled with pithy statements that stick in your mind long after you’ve clicked back to Youtube. McRaney also manages to make his potentially dry subject matter highly entertaining by peppering his posts with modern-day, contextual examples that just about anyone can relate to – ranging from Farmville to Halloween costumes – to illustrate the points he is making.

In one of his latest posts, The Sunk Cost Fallacy, McRaney uses the popularity of Facebook games like Farmville to explain why humans experience loss more acutely than gain, and manages to do this in a highly engaging manner without trivializing the subject matter. By the end of the post, readers have a clear idea of why they inevitably are compelled to “throw good money after bad” – a concept that frequent gamblers would gain much from grasping.

Other brilliant posts include Confirmation Bias, which posits that your opinions are not the result of rational, objective analysis but rather “the result of years of paying attention to information which confirmed what you believed while ignoring information which challenged your preconceived notions.” And Deindividuation, which suggests that under the right conditions, people are prone to losing their individuality and behave in a manner they otherwise would not.

A really easy, enjoyable read that won’t make your brain hurt, but will certainly make you smarter. Without a doubt, this blog deserves a 4.3/5; considering it’s a great read, hopefully the activity and posting frequency increases.

While the blog focuses on the parents’ struggle to raise their troubled child, there are also posts centered around their own lives and activities, painting a picture of their personalities and what they do when parenting is not the primary focus. These posts often lend a happy tone to an otherwise somber blog about personal development.

The content of the blog draws you in right from the interesting and mysterious titles and keeps you enthralled till the very last word. There is a lot of emotional weight in each post, and you can honestly connect with the authors. Subtle usage of paragraph breaks, bold and italic font, and varying sentence structure make this blog a really great read. Every post has some lesson or deep feeling to share, and every post is completely engaging.

The blog has a lightweight, innocent looking blue blogger theme, with text that makes it extremely easy to read. There aren’t a lot of frills aside from the sidebar widgets, which can feel a little crowded. Once you make your way past the widgets, you find links to popular posts, useful links, an archive, a blog roll, and, all the way at the bottom, some about information.

This blog gets a 4/5 for having compelling content that really draws the readers into the bloggers’ lives. The design enhances the content and makes it easier to read, and the overall presentation is spectacular.

For those of you that love to cook, you will certainly appreciate the tidbits and morsels found at the Lets’s Get Wokking Blog, though I do not recommend you come to this blog hungry. Here you will find a blog that has been created by a stay-at-home mom who loves cooking for her family and loves sharing the recipes she makes with the world. Contrary to the title, this blog does not limit itself to only cooking with a wok but true to its name, it does focus on cooking and having fun while you do it! The author of the site also has another cooking site, of which there are many links to on the Home page if you want to check out more of her great recipes. You can see this for yourself through any of the most recent bloggeries which include: Blueberry Cupcakes; Sweet Pork; Baked Portabello Mushroom with Ham and Cheese; Stir Fry Pork with Mushroom in Miso; and Steamed Egg with Tofu.

The blog is well organized into a blogspot template making navigation fairly easy. Bloggeries are left marginalized and they appear in black text on white background with links highlighted in purple. There is a double sided right navigation system containing quite a bit of material for the readers. Here you will find the About page, A translate this page widget, and a chat box which is a first for me to see on a blog. If you want to talk to Wokking Mum and tell her how much they love her food or to ask questions about her recipes or cooking in general, you can use this chat box. This navigation system also includes a recent readers widget known as ‘Regular Diners’, Subscription Info, Upcoming Recipes, a Categories Menu known as ‘What Was Wokked Here’, Archives Menu, and various advertising and blog widgets. Each bloggery is associated with a relevant picture which adds to the hunger factor as you read through this blog.

This blog gets a 3.3/5 due to the fact that I was very much enjoying this blog until I started wading through the navigation system. The navigation bars on the right offer readers a wealth of opportunities to connect with the blogger which I really liked, however, these sidebars are very disorganized and not easy to follow through. I would suggest dividing the navigation bars into two systems, with one system being the bar that contains blog essentials such as About, Subscription, Recent Posts, Categories, Archives, etc, and leaving the other navigation bar for these fun widgets. This bar is not organized well and it is very distracting to the reader. Activity scores need work as perfect scores here are the result of daily activity, and appearance is affected by the navigation system. The content of the blog however is doing well to sustain a readership, and is very appealing and in a lovely personal voice. The concept of the blog is very good as well, and this also is aiding in sustaining the readership. Overall, this is a great blog with great content and a creative way of asserting itself, however it does need some cleaning up and tweaking before I would bookmark it. Following that however, it would definitely get a thumbs up from me!
-Chrissie

P.S Would of loved to post a picture but they can’t copied due to a script the blog has installed.

In this day and age, knowing how to produce additional revenue streams can come in very handy. At the This Blog Will Pay My Mortgage Blog, you will learn just that. This is a blog that has been created by the author to do just that – pay his mortgage with the income he makes from the blog. Not only will he pay his mortgage with it, but he’ll show you how you can do it too! While at first glance it’s clear what this blog is about it’s also clear the blog is just what a helpful and informative blog should be: nicely laid out, easy to read, and full of great information that the reader can actually use! You can see this for yourself through any of the most recent bloggeries which include: Top 3 Youtube Tips, Seven Deadly Sins of Twitter Marketers, Make Money Online – Become a RAT!

The blog is very well organized and this makes for ease of navigation. Bloggeries are left marginalized and appear in black font on beige background with a right sided navigation bar. In the navigation bar you will find subscription information, Twitter Updates, Latest Entries, AdSense, Archives Menu, Blogroll titled ‘Get Organized and Inspired’, Most Popular posts menu, Great Bloggers Menu, and Recent Comments Menu. Although the blog may seem to lack uniqueness in a world that is full of money-making blogs, it’s so easy to use and navigate that any other additions may just impede on the site’s biggest strength which is its top notch content.

This blog gets a 3.6/5. The subscriber count seems to be on the low side, and this could be improved with daily content being fed to the blog (and ultimately, the search engines). Navigation wise, the blog has all of the features a blog should have, which is important for all blogs but especially for blogs that are focused on making money. The only suggestion I would have for easier navigation would be to make the header a clickable link, as many readers such as myself like to use that for a handy anchor when navigating a blog. For appearance, the blog is good. Though it is not the prettiest blog per se, you will overlook this fact when you get into its top quality content that is easy to read, easy to apply, and informative if you are serious about making money online. This blog could definitely use some kind of personalization as the theme is rather generic right now. I also like the random spattering of images, as this does not distract from the blog and the blog clearly does not rely on heavy images or other frivolous wastes of space but leaves the content to speak for itself in a nicely organized way. With just a few tweaks, this good blog could become a great blog and see some definite growth in subscribers and readership over time.

If you like getting free food, or simply like to hear good food reviews, then you may want to check out the Gimmie Something to Eat Blog. This is a blog authored by two bloggers who love to eat. These bloggers are committed to eating one new food a day and reviewing it for advertising dollars. That’s right, you send them your food and they will document the entire review experience on video and publish it on their blog. So if you are looking for ingenious ways to find a way to eat for free, these bloggers will definitely inspire you. Mind you, these same bloggers are giving back more than their reviews, but also offering a substantial fundraising opportunity for local food banks. For every month that they ‘sell out’ of food reviews, they will donate $300 to a food bank, and for every day that is sold, $1 to local food banks. This is an ingenious way of spreading the word about good food, and helping those less fortunate at the same time. And for companies or food sponsors, there is no warmer way to get your message across than by receiving a review from this creative team, and giving back to the food bank at the same time. Take a look for yourself at the good work this eating team is doing by checking out any of their most recent bloggeries: Pictures: Season One Episode 26 – Fluffy Jon and Mama D Take a Voyage on the Sea; Pledge to End Hunger: Can 5000 Really Feed 560,000?; Does Fluffy Enjoy Goji Berries?, and Fluffy has an Oat Dream.

The blog is fairly new and is organized into a clean template making it very easy to navigate. You will find handy navigation systems all round the blog in the header, footer, and right sided navigation bar. Bloggeries are left marginalized and are in black text on white background. In the top navigation system you will find links to the Home Page, About Page, Contact Page, and a ‘Send us Food’ link! In the right sided navigation system you will find a Search Bar, Testimonials, comprehensive Categories Menu, and a series of Information Links if you want to get more involved with the blog. And if you are a food lover, you will love the comprehensive set of food categories that you can read reviews on, such as Beverages, Dairy Drinks, Dessert Items, Energy Drinks, Juice Drinks, Meat Products, and so many more. You will also find more to navigate in the footer with Menus here for Categories, Archives, and Recent Comments Menu. Each bloggery is associated with relevant pictures and even videos of the food review experience and these add meaning and relevance to the blog content.

Overall this blog gets a 4.6/5 at the time of review. For such a young blog at only two months old, it has laid a solid foundation from which to grow. The blog offers many navigation systems on a clean template that is easy to use and easy to move around. The only suggestion to assist in navigation would be the addition of a Recent Posts Menu, as more episodes get added to the blog, readers will find this very useful in navigation. From an Appearance standpoint, this blog does well with its easy to read and aesthetically pleasing layout. Content is well done in a strong personal voice that is both creative but to the point, and this will definitely assist in reader retention. Activity scores are right on track as well, with this blog promising daily content and delivering it well. Overall, this blog is well done on every level, and should see some great success as it continues to grow. Food lovers will definitely want to take a bite out of this one!
