Company

There are certain dos and don'ts attached to the formation of a limited company. The Companies House in the UK looks after the matter of company formation. In order to form a limited company in the UK, one needs to provide the concerned authority (in this case it is the Companies House) with necessary information and documents. These are clearly dictated in the booklets published by the House, both in online and print versions. There are basically three types of limited companies in the UK: private company limited by shares, private company limited by guarantee and public limited company. The first one is similar to a private limited company. The second type of company does not have share capital; rather, it is guaranteed by its members. The members agree to pay a fixed amount in the event of the company's liquidation. One can form a limited company in any of these ways. In a public limited company, the shareholders would only be liable to pay the amount that remains unpaid on the shares. This amount is usually zero as shares are issued fully paid. The shareholders in the limited companies always have a limited liability. In order to form a limited company in the UK, one needs to register it with the Companies House. The registered office can be in England and Wales, Scotland and North Ireland. The registered office and all the other things involved in company formation process in the UK have some formalities attached to them. The very naming of a limited company has a legal formality attached to it. If you are to form a limited companyin the UK, you have to include the word 'limited' in its name. The contracted form of the word, 'ltd' will also do. This way, there are some other dos and don'ts to be taken care of while forming a limited company in the United Kingdom.
After a poor start to polling due to cold winds, voter turnout went up rapidly across Gujarat's northern and central areas as the day progressed in a do-or-die battle involving 599 candidates in 95 constituencies.
In some places, however, voters gathered at polling centres even before they opened at 8 am.

A total of 18.7 million people are eligible to vote on Sunday, and cities and towns in both regions witnessed maximum enthusiasm to pick a new assembly.
A confident and combative Chief Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the BJP would sweep the elections to retain power in a state whose electoral outcome is widely expected to have an impact on national politics.
BJP leader and prime ministerial candidate L.K Advani also made a similar assertion.
After casting his vote in Ranip area of Sarkhej constituency, Modi flashed a V sign to his cheering supporters. "The BJP is fighting for the future of Gujarat. I am sure we will get an unprecedented majority," he said.
A large crowd of Modi fans who had been waiting for the chief minister went wild as he reached the polling booth, screaming in unison: "Modi! Modi!"
Modi's cabinet colleague Amit Shah is contesting from Sarkhej, the biggest seat in size and number of voters.
The chief minister, who has turned the Gujarat ballot as a Modi-versus-Congress battle, himself is pitted against central minister Dinsha Patel in the adjoining constituency of Maninagar in Ahmedabad.
Shortly before Modi spoke, Advani voted in Shahpur constituency of Ahmedabad amid chaos after an electronic voting machine (EVM) at the polling booth failed to function.
Advani told reporters later: "The BJP is going to win in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. And the results are going to decide the timing of the mid-term (parliamentary) elections."
The Congress made similar claims.
State Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki said: "There is a wave for change. This time the situation will be a reverse of what it was in 2002."
But Advani insisted that there was no anti-incumbency. "The BJP will form the government in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh," he said, referring to the two states going to the polls this month.
Several heavyweights from the BJP, which has ruled Gujarat for almost a decade barring a short break, and the Congress, which is desperate to oust the BJP, are in the fray.
Issues of security and terrorism dominated the acrimonious campaign in the second round. Developmental issues, with which the campaign began in the state, took a back seat.
Among the other high profile contenders on Sunday are cabinet ministers Anandiben Patel, Amit Shah, Prabhatsinh Chauhan and Ashok Bhatt. Congress veteran Narhari Amin is also in the fray.
Sunday began with a major embarrassment for the BJP when one of its candidates was arrested within an hour.
Police took into custody Jayanti Rathwa, candidate from Pavi Jetpur constituency of central Gujarat. He was charged with illegal possession of weapons, which were seized from three vehicles driven by his supporters.
Also, the Election Commission has charged Gujarat Education Minister Anandiben Patel with violation of poll conduct after she allegedly distributed saris among voters in her Patan constituency in the northern region.
The EVMs did not function well in more than one place. In some seats, voters complained that their names were not in the Election Commission list though they possessed the relevant identity cards.
Naturally, arguments erupted in several places between angry voters and exasperated officials.
In 2002, the BJP swept central Gujarat and dominated the northern region of the state in the aftermath of communal violence. The Congress is making a determined bid to bounce back to power.
The first phase of the Gujarat assembly election took place December 11. The votes will be counted December 23.

3 Depression Alternative Treatments You Should Consider

Depression alternative treatments have become popular, because of one simple fact. There are 21 million people suffering from depression in the world today, and less and less are experiencing progress with traditional depression treatments. In this article, I will offer three depression alternative treatments that you should be aware of, so you can make the best decision for the treatment of your depression.

Two standard treatments for depression deal with a combination of medications and psychotherapy. Medications are used to help the body restore its natural chemical balance, as well as to stimulate the release of certain chemicals which have been associated with causing happiness. Psychotherapy is used to get to the root and cause of the depression, so strategy is can be made to manipulate the root problem so it no longer causes your depression. However, these are not your only two options. Let's look at some depression alternative treatments.

Acupuncture is currently rising in popularity as a form of treatment for depression. This is mostly used by those who suffer from moderate or mild depression, and many patients have reported relief from the symptoms associated with these depressions. Basically, pressure is applied to different points on the body, with the goal to release blocked energy in the body, especially energies associated with depression.

In addition, acupuncture has shown that it stimulates the release of endorphins, which have both a calming effect, as well as helping the patient's mood to be elevated.

The second option is used as an alternative for medication. Instead of using synthetic medication, the patient uses herbal therapy, to help correct chemical disturbances in the body. This form of treatment has become especially popular in Europe. In fact, the British Medical Journal recently published a report stating that one specific type of herbal treatment -- St. John's wort -- worked just as well as traditional prescription medications for antidepressants, but without any side effects.

The third option is a specific type of therapeutic treatment, known as cognitive behavioral therapy. Everybody has generalized thoughts which make up their core beliefs. The theory is that damage core beliefs are what are causing your depression. And by being able to repair damage core beliefs, you will change your negative behavior responses associated with them. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been used for years as a therapeutic technique, but only more recently to deal specifically with depression.

In conclusion, I have given you three depression alternative treatments to consider.
Steven Ross has written a number of excellent articles on how to solve Depression and Anxiety.

Scientists Cure Mice Of Sickle Cell Using Stem Cell Technique

Using a recently developed technique for turning skin cells into stem cells, scientists have cured mice of sickle cell anemia -- the first direct proof that the easily obtained cells can reverse an inherited, potentially fatal disease.
Researchers said the work, published in yesterday's online edition of the journal Science, points to a promising future for the novel cells. Known as iPS cells, they have been touted by President Bush and some scientists as a possible substitute for embryonic stem cells, which have been mired for years in political controversy.

But researchers also cautioned that aspects of the new approach will have to be changed before it can be tried in human patients. Most important, the technique depends on the use of gene-altered viruses that have the potential to trigger tumor growth.
"The big issue is how to replace these viruses," said Rudolf Jaenisch of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Mass., who led the new work with co-worker Jacob Hanna and Tim M. Townes of the University of Alabama Schools of Medicine and Dentistry in Birmingham.
"Induced pluripotent stem," or iPS, cells, are virtually identical to embryonic stem cells. They can morph into all of the more than 200 cell types in the body but are derived from skin, not from embryos. Mouse iPS cells were first derived earlier this year, and scientists reported last month to great fanfare that they had created similar cells from human skin.
The new experiment started with the removal of a few skin cells from the tail tips of mice sick with sickle cell anemia, which can cause painful circulatory problems, kidney failure and strokes.
The researchers converted those skin cells into iPS cells by infecting them with viruses engineered to change the cells' gene activity so they would resemble embryonic cells.
Using DNA splicing techniques in those cells, the researchers then snipped out the small mutated stretches of DNA that cause sickle cell disease and filled those gaps with bits of DNA bearing the proper genetic code.

Next, the researchers treated the corrected iPS cells with another kind of virus -- this time one designed to induce a genetic change that encouraged the cells to mature into bone marrow cells.
Finally, each mouse that gave up a few skin cells at the beginning of the experiment was given an infusion with the corrected marrow cells created from its own skin cells. Those cells set up permanent residence in the animals' bones and began producing blood cells -- the major function of marrow cells -- and releasing them by the millions into the circulatory system.
But now the blood cells being produced were free of the sickle cell mutation.
"All the parameters we can measure are now normal," Jaenisch said. "The mice are cured."
People with sickle cell disease can be cured with bone marrow transplants, but only about 20 percent of patients have a healthy sibling whose tissue type is a close enough match to avoid immunological complications, Townes said. Even in those cases, about 20 percent of the transplants fail, and sometimes they result in a potentially deadly reaction called graft-vs.-host disease.
Those problems do not arise with iPS cell transplants because the cells are genetically identical to the animals getting them.
"These are not just matched, they're identical," Townes said.
The mice were given low doses of radiation just before the transplants to kill some of their existing bone marrow cells and to make room for the newly injected, corrected ones. Tests indicate that about 80 percent of each animals' marrow is now made up of the new cells. And four months after treatment, no tumors have been seen.
Even a 20 percent marrow substitution can be therapeutic in people, Townes said, in part because healthy red blood cells live for about four months in the circulatory system, while their diseased counterparts last only 40 days.
"I think it is a really exciting proof-of-principle that clinical applications of iPS cells are technically feasible," said George Q. Daley, a stem cell researcher at Children's Hospital Boston. "There will be lots of unanticipated setbacks before we end up in the clinic, but this work suggests that we will ultimately get there."
Jaenisch said the success with iPS cells does not mean that research on human embryonic stem cells can be dropped, as some opponents of the work have asserted.
"All the progress in this field was only possible because we had embryonic stem cells to work with first," Jaenisch said. "We need to make more ES cells and really define which are going to be the best ones for different applications."

Professional Sales Coaching - A Marketing System Isn't a Get Rich Quick Solution

Out of desperation sales people in the services industries are often tempted to buy a done for you marketing system. It sounds so good just what you need to get things going. The problem is the system was developed by someone else for someone else, not you. It doesn't necessarily fit your business and you don't know how to implement it the way you're supposed to. Consequently you don't get anywhere near the results you expect to get.
There aren't any get rich quick solutions. The only ones getting rich from get rich quick solutions are the people selling them. Instead of trying to take a short cut and ending up on a long diversionary path you'd be better off learning how to develop a marketing system that's specific to you and your business.
You need to develop your own marketing system for generating your own proprietary leads. It doesn't do you any good to buy internet leads that are sold to 50 competitors too. When the leads are your own you're much more likely to earn some business.
As a professional sales coach I've found the quickest way to generate real leads is to show my clients how to develop a marketing system that's specific to them. For many this is foreign and scary territory. For others its small changes in what they have that result in the quantity and quality of leads they're striving for.
Your sales success is directly tied to your ability to attract the right prospects. As you develop your marketing system you want to do so in a way that forms a message to market match, and filters the market for the people you want to work with. This means you stop investing time in activities that don't produce results, you hold fewer appointments and generate more business because you aren't meeting with long-shots hoping to convert them into buyers, and you have time to actually enjoy your work and your clients.
If you can't enjoy your clients they can't enjoy you, and that means: lower client retention, few if any referrals, and more work for you. It all ties together in a smooth flow. First, you have to attract and get the attention of the right people. Next, you have to get them to reach out to you. Then you qualify your leads for the ready buyers and focus your energies on them.
Long-term success in service businesses is determined by your ability to develop long-term relationships with your clients. A good marketing system will get the right prospects entering your sales funnel, a good sales process will help them become clients, and a good referral system will keep them loyal to you.
It takes both work and time to develop the systems required for business success. But it takes a lot less time than cold calling and acquiring low value clients that don't stay with you. Once you understand how to put it all together business becomes fun again, and you have the time and financial freedom to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Get a daily boost to increase your sales: the blog for Top Producers and Future Top Producers
It is unfortunate all the doom and gloom in the media about the greatest economy ever created in the history of mankind. The US economy will soon surpass 20 Trillion Dollars per year, most likely before 2010. Today we do have a few challenges, but that is just part of the natural and normal economic cycles. Now then, to the critics, I say;
I will certainly not be one to deny what you have stated here about the Iraq re-stabilization efforts. I do concur, my dear sir, that it is much too costly, and it a very poor use of our national treasury, unless the oil there is used to pay back down our debt for our involvement. Indeed, that is a whole other issue of epic proportions and such a debate will rage on forever, but a trillion plus dollars on Iraq is nuts anyone who would debate other wise is fully of poppycock.
And I say to the critics of the strength of the US economy that; no doubt that the cost of milk, meat, heating fuel, energy, and diesel fuel and gasoline is huge and those costs are rising. Diesel fuel costs are causing wholesale inflation, let's call it an invisible tax or artificial inflation, on everything else, and that on top of the issues that too there is real inflation on consumer goods, not necessarily having to do with transportation, and distribution fuel costs, but other factors. Some of the increased prices are finally, moving up to where they should have been all along, yet hardly an opportune time, considering all the other issues you mentioned, as have I.
The pumping of more money into the economy to shore up (Economic Stimulus Plan) things now will only cause more inflation, having government try a spending economic bailout package is counter to sound economic theory, but politicians will promise anything to the mob in order to get elected. Still, the thought of recession + inflation is no fun either, we've lived through that before.
And on top off all that the monetary flows out of the country due to un-balanced and unfair trade (as if there were ever such things as utopian free trade) is assisting in the of sinking dollar further. Although, that might have been considered a strategy of past administrations, it is not a viable long-term plan, as in previous periods as our manufacturing base has been eroded by over regulation, outsourcing and competition where labor is cheaper.
Indeed the over all economics is global and local and everywhere in between including the largest chunk of the consumer dollar is about as local as it can get, the individual's pocket book. And their individual circumstances, which you allude too and in which I am in agreement of, to deny your statements, would be words uttered in pure hokum.
In fact, I doubt I would disagree with the critics of the US economy or the challenges we face on the road ahead or on the ailments of our current economy or the repercussions. Now then, my good sirs, I hereby propose a grassroots marketing effort to shore up the loss of trust and consumer confidence in our nation's great economy. So, I ask what say you about a strong and united effort to do just that?
Do you believe that an organized grass roots effort with 3-5 small business people, professionals and influences per town in rural areas and 4 teams of 4 each (16) per DMA putting forth, pre-packaged information to shore up the negative media momentum would be a good start in slowing negative consumer sentiment. All this in an effort to boost consumer confidence, using it as a battle cry of "unity in motion" to bring the nation together in a common cause in healing itself is a good idea?
Because, it can work and it is a start and this industry is not the only one which would get behind it. Too, we must remember the largest employers of all are our small businesses employing 75% of the workforce and accounting for 10% of the population as those small business owners. The NAR, would jump on board, once the program got going, so would others in many industries. There is power and synergy in the numbers represented here, and real estate people being natural "influencers" only makes the pie even sweeter. What say you?

"Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. There are so many books out there on how to succeed in life and various ways to achieve your goals. When it comes down to it, there is no wrong answer to this question because many people have experienced success differently from one another. One answer I do know, it truly comes down to only you and believing in yourself to succeed in life.
Some of us use religion as a reminder to ourselves not to give up. In order for us to know how to succeed in life, we need to understand how God evaluates success in life. Knowledge is acquiring information and facts. We can say wisdom is knowing how to properly apply it for yourself and understand ones life situations. People need to understand that acknowledging any type of failure leads to success because we can use that information to learn from. It isn't the end of the world if you fail and its how you bounce back that counts at the end. When this happens, some of us become a stronger person by building your character and appreciating how you got to that point. People need to learn that failure is an acceptable consequence of trying something new, that it can be an opportunity to learn and that it is frequently a stepping stone to eventual success.
To succeed in life you have to get past the failure or the so called bad experience. You have to look at things into perspective such as what did you learn from this and how do you get back on track to achieve the success you want in life. Once you reach this stage in your life you are ready to take ACTION! Every minute that you dwell on the past is a minute you are not spending on moving forward to the success you want. What makes a successful person is not the failures or set-backs you have experienced but how you picked yourself up and moved ahead despite those failures or setbacks.
One thing I like to remember from time to time when in doubt with myself is that key word perseverance. For me it means to keep going even when failure seems uncertain. We need to begin the journey of life and learn the importance of not giving up when faced with a challenge. There is no easy way out in life; we may by-pass the valuable lessons learned from failure and persistence. People who have risen to the top in society are usually the ones who have learned that perseverance through failure is part of the price of success. I believe god gives us obstacles in life and its how we overcome these barriers in order to be successful. Leaving on a positive note, a quote that comes to my mind is Franklin D. Roosevelt with his words "When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."

The Hidden Meaning Behind Dreams

Carl Jung discovered the unique method of dream interpretation. I continued his research, discovered the meaning of more dream symbols and the existence of a wild and primitive conscience that causes craziness to our conscience.
If you learn how to interpret your dreams by using this scientific method, you will be able to penetrate the hidden world of the unconscious and anti-conscience, in addition to understanding how your human conscience works. What does this mean? This means that you will penetrate your mind and start understanding why you behave the way you do, why you think and feel the way you do and so on.
You will then start understanding your mistakes and to correct them and develop your conscience. This means that you become more intelligent because you start paying attention to other psychological functions that you have at your disposition. You can learn many things and better judge the world: these are the functions you never use because you are always dominated by only one fully developed psychological function, which you prefer, and another one that is only partially developed and only partly helps you.
In the beginning, your dreams will help you develop you conscience by showing you all the aspects of reality that you have to consider when you make your decisions or judge someone. For example, if you belong to a psychological type that is extroverted and based on sensations, you will care only for the way you feel, the food you eat, the clothes you wear and all the material pleasures you can have.
What can happen to you? A lot!
If you don't think logically or analyze your life seriously, you'll surely face many problems in your life. On the other hand, if you don't pay attention to your feelings but only care for the gratification of your senses, you may get involved with someone you don't really love but who can give you the material pleasure you desire...only to discover later that you cannot live with that person no matter how much money they may have.
If you don't pay attention to what you "can guess" about each person, to the impression and the feeling they give you, you are ignoring a very important psychological function whose functionalism is a mystery-intuition. This psychological function is in fact the ability to predict the future without any logical explanation besides the impressions that you obtain about someone or something. This psychological function when completely developed can help you actually guess, for instance, the person who will buy your products and who will never do that. You can understand from the beginning who is the right person for you and immediately decide the next actions to take.
When this psychological function is not well developed, you receive no help in your decisions. You cannot guess anything about what you are trying to examine.
Therefore, when you completely develop your conscience through dream interpretation, you start discovering the hidden meaning of reality that you could not see before because you were too ignorant and based on only one entire and one partial psychological function each.
On the other hand, when you completely develop your conscience and eliminate the dangerous influence of the wild and primitive anti-conscience, you discover how reality is prepared and how you can transform it according to what will bring you good results.
You acquire a "third eye" that can read and decipher the symbols existent not only in dreams but also everywhere else, and you will be guided to solve all the problems of your life.
When you reach this level, you will learn the meaning of many other things that you now ignore. You will learn how to think according to another system of logic that is completely different from the selfish logic that you use now, in addition to understanding the meaning of life and death.
You can learn all that you wish by interpreting your dreams, and you can interpret everything that happens to you in your daily life just as you interpret dreams, and thus have more information about reality, other people and the future.

Prevent Depression and Craziness through the scientific method of Dream Interpretation discovered by Carl Jung and simplified by Christina Sponias, a writer who continued Jung's research in the unknown region of the human psychic sphere. If you want your website to be stunning and effective, here are some web 2.0 web design tips to help you get started.

Keep it simple
Having too many features can take away from the central purpose of the site. That does not imply bare, simple design. Instead it means using the minimum features required to achieve your objective. As part of quality custom web design you need to ensure this.

Central positioning
When your web site design is built centrally it is more likely to give out an honest impression of your brand. Besides the brand messaging, it also is far more easy on your budget as you need lesser pixels or content.

Less number of columns
The fewer columns you use, the more readability you infuse into your website. If you are hiring high quality web designers they will quickly tell you that cramming too much information on a page is always a bad idea.

Making navigability easy
You don't want your website visitors to keep hunting for information on your site! Any section on web 2.0 web design tips will advise you to keep navigation obvious and easy to reach.

Text size
As a way of infusing better readability it is also important to have bigger sized text. As part of good website design tips you can highlight important elements with a larger font size.

Differentiating sections
You can also employ the usage of bright colors as part of your custom web design. This can help demarcate areas on the site and make it easier for readers to understand different sections.

Rich aesthetic appeal
You want your site to look stunning. As part of that effort your web site design need to use good quality aesthetic elements. Aspects like drop shadows or reflections can really help jump start the look and feel of your website!

Self explanatory icons
You can also use innovative icons which explain the concept better than plain text. Today the focus is on lesser usage of icons and more text. However, web designers tend to use such icons sparingly only in high value areas of the site.

Labels
You can also use star shaped labeling in order to draw the visitor's attention to something. For example in your web site design you may want to showcase a special promotional discount etc. However, use these sparingly as over-usage sends out a 'cheap' signal to visitors.

Large logo design
One of the aspects of web 2.0 web design tips is to use bold and large logos to draw more attention and create a statement.
The problem with time travel is the 'Time Travel paradox' which goes something like this. Suppose a person travels back in time before birth and breaks a link in the time chain that led to the traveler's birth. This problem has been commonly explored by asking the question 'What if you killed your own grandmother before she first conceived?' (Why the time travel paradox is never expressed in terms of killing your own mother, I am not sure, but it isn't). If you kill your grandmother then you would not be born. If you were not born, then you could not travel into the past, in which case you would not kill your grandmother. If you did not travel back in time to kill your grandmother, you would be born causing you to again travel into the past to kill your grandmother...with me so far?
The laws of physics seem to allow the possibility of time travel to take place. Many physicists believe that there would have to be some kind of constraint that would make time travel impossible.
Albert Einstein thought that time travel was a very distinct possibility. His idea was that, theoretically, the closer we come to traveling at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second), the more time would appear to slow down for us in relation to someone who was not moving. He called the slowing of time due to motion time dilation.
Einstein came up with an example to show the effects of time dilation that he called the "twin paradox." The paradox basically states that there are two twins. One twin travels to a distant location at the speed of light, while the other twin stays on earth. For the twin that traveled, time slowed down, while time stayed constant for the twin that remained on earth. Upon returning the twins were no longer the same age. The twin paradox and time dilation actually supports the theory of time travel into the future.
The twin paradox theory was actually proven in an experiment in 1971. This time experiment used two atomic clocks which started off reading the exact same time. One clock was placed on a jet that traveled around the world at 600 mph, while the other atomic clock stayed stationary. When the jet landed, the clock that had gone around the world was behind by a few billionths of a second.
So what about time travel into the past? The basic features of quantum theory actually allow for the possibility of time travel into the past and that the paradoxes raised by the equations of Einstein's theory of relativity never come into play. The theory is that quantum objects split their existence into multiple component waves, which follows a distinct path through space-time. Quantum theory allows for time travel, because nothing stops the waves from traveling backwards in time. If you travel back into time using quantum mechanics, you would only see those events that were consistent with the world you left behind.
Time travel is an interesting theory to say the least. I leave you with this thought on time travel. If one day someone knocks on your door and says that they are a distant relative of yours, you might want to think twice before you close the door.

As boomers we have always been a revolutionary bunch with lots of "firsts" in our combined history, that established us as an independent group of fairly free thinkers. Now, we are faced with a new boomer challenge. Whether or not we can turn our children into roommates and survive.

I didn't realize when I was younger how many opportunities I took advantage of to make really stupid mistakes and put myself in some situations that, today, would be unheard of. But, one thing has remained pretty constant through my life. Family has, is and always will be important. Whether you are a parent, a surrogate parent, or the one person a kid could depend on growing up. You may now be entering an unknown area that you are not sure how to deal with. Today I'm going to talk about children as roommates. And, more specifically, whether or not you (and your family) are possible candidates for the "roommate" life.

I live with my kids, or my kids live with me, depending on who you are talking to and on which day. It works for us. I don't have to live with them, I'm not dependent, on the contrary I'm a very independent person. But none the less we do live together. How did we finally reach this point where it works so well? How did I know that we were candidates for roommate status? Well, to be honest, I didn't and have learned by trial and error. It will be easier for you if you can answer a couple of questions to determine if this is a lifestyle that will work for you.

Where to live

Your house is your house and always will be. If you raised your kids there, you (and they) will have a really hard time not reverting back to the parent/child role. So, the first question is - Can you live somewhere else. If you own your home and are already shaking your head, think about renting out the home you own and renting something with your kids for the greater good. If you start on neutral territory and set up some bsic house rules in the "new" house, you will find that the transition is really easy.

How attached are you to your "stuff"

With your grown kids as roommates it is pretty easy to set boundaries. But if you, like me, have grandchildren involved in the equation you will find that boundary setting just isn't a concept kids understand. My grandchildren love playing in my closet and wearing my jewelry. One day I came home and my mattress had gone through the bed frame because, "A burglar broke in and jumped on the bed until it broke, we have no idea who it was!"

If you are really attached to your stuff and are not willing to rent a storage unit to put it in, then you are not a candidate for roommate. Your grown kids will "borrow" your stuff, your grandkids will play with your stuff and their friends will investigate your stuff.

Can you be an impartial participant

We spend the better portion of our lives making sure our kids don't get hurt, don't make the wrong decisions, don't hang out with the wrong people, excel at whatever they are doing. Can you give that up? As a roommate you have to bite your tongue when you know that the decision the children are making is going to result in something less than perfect. It's way easier to do that over the phone when they are calling home once a week or so just to check in, but can you do it when they are there and you are watching the disaster unfold. And, are you prepared to let them work through the issues and deal with the consequences themselves and not offer advice unless asked? It's really hard, but you have to do it. If you can't be "friends" with your children in a roommate situation, then you are not a candidate for this lifestyle.

Of course, the payoff to this lifestyle is that you get to play with your grandkids and you are living with your best friend who already knows, and for the most part accepts, all of your bad habits. And, if you have read the above and feel that these are minor details that you can work through, then in our next article we'll talk about a few more things to consider before making the leap.

For now though, think about this alternative and maybe start investigating the possibility. In the end it is a win-win for everyone and can be pretty fun. Gotta run, somebody's in my closet.

It's my world : Debt Solution Companies - Under The Microscope

Debt solution companies have been under the microscope recently, ever-more as debt in the UK continues to grow. As consumers, we should welcome such interest in these companies as, after all, they are looking after our money. We want our questions answered - such as; How do we know they are reputable? How many clients do they have? How long have they been established? What solutions do they offer? As the governing bodies & independent consumer watchdog's take interest, our questions will be answered.
The UK has serious debt problems. Spending is out of control and many people don't know what to do or where to turn when it comes to sorting out their debt problems. The market for these debt solution companies is only getting bigger by the day.
Many critics of these debt solution companies believe some are constantly trying to push customers towards agreements that will only benefit them, with little regard for the customers actual needs. You only have to look at the number of people applying for IVAs each year to see this is not far from the truth. IVAs can provide them with massive sums of money in return for setting up the agreement.
On the other hand, an IVA can be the best, if not only solution for some individuals, writing off a large amount of their debt, and providing them with some financial stability.
The debt companies that offer these solutions argue that loan, mortgage and credit providers should have stricter lending conditions and it is they who are to blame for mounting debts in the UK.
The best advice for anyone whose debts are out of control is to first understand your own finances. That way, if you have to approach a debt solution company, you'll know exactly where you stand with your personal debt. If you go in not knowing the facts, then you're much more likely to be taken advantage of. It's really just common sense.
So, though many people find their cheesy television adverts annoying, the debt solution companies are here to stay. It is our responsibility to research each one before signing on the dotted line.

You can find impartial reviews on many debt solution companies here.
Business owners should especially avoid online applications for business cash advances and business loans, and this commercial funding article will describe how and why to avoid the online application trap involving commercial loans.
Business owners and commercial borrowers will consistently find an almost limitless supply of internet sites for commercial loans. Most business cash advance websites will include some version of an online application. Here is a four-step process for avoiding the unwise use of applications for business loans.
The first step is to avoid the initial temptation to submit a commercial loan application online. It does appear to be convenient for a borrower to apply for business financing online. Perhaps some borrowers are attracted to the anonymous nature of the online business finance application because they have been previously annoyed by sales tactics and evasive answers in loan discussions.
Many commercial lenders have contributed to the pervasiveness of online applications in large part because they are fearful of losing some competitive advantage by not having this capability. However in attempting to match their competition, business lenders and brokers are sacrificing the best interests of their commercial borrower clients by facilitating the online application approach for commercial loans.
The second step is to understand why it is essential to avoid an online application. Applying for commercial loans via a website is similar to submitting a resume without previous research or discussions when seeking employment. What makes an online business loan application even more risky and inadvisable than the anonymous resume example is the usual inclusion of tax identification numbers and other sensitive financial data on a commercial funding application document.
Online applications have several critical problems. First, there are always potential security breaches during transmission (as well as before and after transmission). Second, there is a significant loss of control by the commercial borrower in the use of their social security number or tax identification number for checking credit (since many online application processes will result in checking credit before any personal conversations occur). Third, most commercial loans are simply too complex to initiate by an oversimplified automated process. Beginning the business cash advance or commercial mortgage process with automated applications is similar to skipping pre-game warmups and coaching pep talks prior to kickoff in a football game. The easiest approach overlooks too many essential preliminary steps.
A suggested third step is using an alternative and improved approach to the online business loan process. The simple and pragmatic solution to the online application dilemma is to insist on preliminary personal discussions with an experienced advisor before submitting any form of commercial finance application. A suitable and ethical commercial lender will not ask a commercial borrower to submit any application until the borrower has completed a thorough discussion with the lender confirming that financing is appropriate for a specific financial situation.
Of course it should be anticipated that some commercial lenders and brokers will attempt to minimize the potential problems associated with an online financing application. In such situations, borrowers should search for a commercial loan advisor who routinely emphasizes an individualized and conversational approach to commercial funding.
The fourth step is to explore additional resources that will facilitate a better understanding of complex finance issues. The Commercial Real Estate Loans Guide and The Working Capital Management Guide are two examples of financing resources that will provide strategies for many problematic circumstances dealing with small business cash management.

Stephen Bush is a small business cash management expert - learn how to avoid problems with business loans and obtain candid business cash advance advice at AEX Commercial Financing Group => http://aexcommercialfinancing.com

Here are 5 more facts about smiling.

1. Women smile more than men.

2. Smiling releases endorphins that make us feel better.

3. We are all born with the ability to smile, it's not something we learn from others.

4. A smile is a universal expression of happiness.

5. A smiling person is thought to be a more pleasant, attractive, sociable, sincere and competent than a non-smiling person.

Forty years and a gold watch won't work on a me-first, go-for-it crowd of free thinkers weaned on social change, pot and LSD. So what choices are boomers facing?
Prior generations retired after working at one company for 25-30 years, and after that stint, they then retire and get a pension plan. Retirees had a small house paid for, a nice Social Security check and a pension. Add to that a life expectancy of around 70 years, and you'll have a perfect retirement plan.
Nowadays it's a different reality for sure. Life expectancies are creeping up past 80, pension plans are quickly disappearing, and full retirement is no longer at age 65, but rather 66, plus we can expect that to change even more in the future. With the fact that many of us baby boomers are poorly prepared financially, and it's clear why the current retirement landscape ain't so rosy for boomers.
So, more and more, boomers are seeking entrepreneurial opportunities to help shore up their inadequate retirement savings.
But businesses can and do fail, often.
Think about the math of failure and recovery. If you start a business when you're 55, and it takes about four years to fail, how able will you be to start yet another venture when you're age 60?
Networking is hard both off and online. Handshaking and backslapping takes a lot of effort for offline promoters, and web cashflow takes entirely new techniques.
Being on your own means you set your own procedures and policies, serve as your own human resources, sales, marketing, payroll, tax and accounting departments, plus fax and phone answerer - the list goes on and on…
Prepare to work longer wherever you are. "Preparation" is the key word here. Some companies will allow you to consult, and many companies allow flextime for working from your home. If you do decide to start your own offline business, prepare to gather contacts from the network opportunities you have where you work now, For an online business, plan to invest for initial and ongoing education and coaching though networks such as Content Desk.
Regardless of how you envision your golden years, do plan now for possible long term care funding by researching appropriate long term care insurance coverage. Many people now get comparative rate quotes and personal coaching through online long term care insurance websites.

How To Retire Rich And Live A Happy Life

As many other teenagers, about 25 years ago, I thought about the future. From the very early point of my life I always enjoyed working, but I always wanted to have an option of not having to work. Twenty five years later, I find myself still working and enjoying my work, but I also feel that I am moving closer to my goal. My secrets are as following:
1) Select the type of work that you enjoy.
2) Be the best at what you do.
3) Spend less than you earn.
4) Education yourself about investment.
Select the type of work that you enjoy: This is very important. Most of us have to work for a living, so we might as well do what we like to do best. In my case that means working with computers and technology, while interacting with other smart people. If you are doing the type of work that you like, you might even feel a little guilty getting paid for it (do not worry - take the money). I recall letting my employer know a few years ago, that I would be willing to do the work that they were paying me for free, because it was a lot of fun and I was learning many new things in the process.
Be the best at what you do. If you decided to do the type of work that you enjoy you might as well be the very best at what you do. Regarding of your current role or position always act like the CEO. Make sure that you spend your time very focused on key value-added activities. Never just go through the motions, be very deliberate about your actions. That type of persistence gets notices and pays off big time in the long run.
Spend less than what you earn. I met people that earned six digit incomes year after year and they were always broke. Do not get me wrong, they owned nice homes and had fancy cars, but they really were not wealthy. They always managed to spend more than they earned. I also had a pleasure of meeting people that did not make a very high income, but they managed to always make saving a priority. If you can get yourself into a habit of spending less than you are earning (and investing the rest), you will find yourself not worrying about your financial future. That’s one of the sure ways to live a happy life. After all, who want to worry about their financial future all the time.
Education your self: We are lucky. Today we can get tons of free and almost free information. We have access to magazines such as Money, SmartMoney, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Bottom Line Personal, Forbes, and Forture - most of these cost $10 to $20 per year and are available in your local library. There are tons of blogs and financial websites, and the there are book and audio books. Education yourself using the resources above will help you generate more yield from your savings. After all it takes a lot of work to generate money, and even more work to get your money to work for you.
Good Luck!!!

Tax Tips for Early Retirees

No matter how you got here, congratulations, you've decided to take early retirement. Setting yourself up to live life as you see fit is one of the American Dreams.
A serious problem with retiring early (besides figuring out what to do with all that time) is that when you stop working before age 60, the IRS doesn't necessarily see you as a retiree. That's why you need to be tax smart about managing your retirement accounts. Here are some things to think about....
Should I Roll Over My 401(k)?
Yes. Rolling over your 401(k) almost always makes sense because why would you want your former employer overseeing your account? Taking control of that money will allow you to have a whole world ful of investment options. Your plan probably has at most 20 mutual funds to pick from. A rollover IRA will give you thousands of choices.
If you want some of that money immediately and you're over age 55 (but younger than 59 1/2) take the money out first and then roll over the rest of the account. Thanks to a convenient penalty exception for those who quit or retire between those ages, you can take payouts from company-sponsored qualified retirement plan accounts and dodge a 10% early withdrawal penalty. The amount will be taxed, but at least there is no penalty.
When Not to Roll Over: Company Stock
A rollover may not be the best option when your qualified retirement-plan account contains low-cost stock from your former company. If the current market value of the company shares is high in relation to their cost, you should strongly consider withdrawing the shares now and paying the resulting taxes.
THis will result in your tax bill being based on the (low) cost of the shares, rather than their (high) market value. If you're under age 55, you'll still owe the 10% penalty. Since the cost of the stock is low, the tax hit will probably be manageable even after the penalty. What's the purpose of this strategy? You are positioned to pay only the 20% capital-gains tax on the difference between the cost of your company shares and the selling price.
Here's of how cashing in your company stock could benefit you:
You bail out of your job at age of 52. Your company 401(k) account is worth $500,000. Of that, $200,000 is invested in company shares with a cost of $25,000. By following the advice, you'll roll over $300,000 tax-free into your IRA. Now withdraw the company stock and put the shares into a taxable account. You'll owe income taxes on $25,000, which is the cost of the stock. You'll also owe a 10% penalty (because you're not age 55 or older) on the $25,000. That makes the total tax hit including the penalty be 41% or $10,250 (.41 x $25,000).
The good news is your company stock is now considered a capital asset. This means that if you sell the stock for $200,000, you'll only owe the 20% capital-gains tax on your $175,000 profit. After tax and penalty you will have netted $165,000. In contrast, if you roll the shares over into your IRA, your profit will be taxed at regular rates when you start taking IRA withdrawals.
If you hang onto the shares for over a year as they appreciate, things will be even better for you as any additional profit will also qualify for the 20% capital-gains rate.
Cautionary note here: To be eligible for the favorable tax treatment, your company stock must be received as part of a lump-sum distribution from the qualified retirement plan or plans in which you participate. Check with your employee-benefits department to make sure your retirement-plan payout qualifies as a lump-sum distribution.
Tapping your IRA
Unlike a company-sponsored plan, IRAs for people between the ages of 55 and 59 1/2 receive no special treatment.. So if you tap your IRA before official retirement age, you will get hit with the 10% early withdrawal penalty. There are some penalty exemptions listed here:
* Annuity-like withdrawals taken over your life expectancy. The withdrawals must be taken at least annually for a minimum of five years or until you turn 59 1/2, whichever is later.
* Withdrawals to pay qualified higher-education expenses for you or your children.
* Withdrawals to pay deductible medical expenses in excess of 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.
* Withdrawals to pay for a qualified home purchase (there's a $10,000 lifetime limit on this exception).
* Withdrawals after death or disability.
Tapping Your Roth
Earnings in your Roth IRAs earnings can be withdrawn totally tax-free only if: (1) the account has been open at least five years, and (2) you are at age 59 1/2, or will use the money for one of the excepted purposes listed above. If you don't pass both parts of the test, the earnings are taxed when withdrawn.
For withdrawals before age 59 1/2, you'll also owe the 10% penalty on those withdrawn earnings unless you meet one of the penalty exceptions listed above. That penalty will also apply if you withdraw "conversion contributions" within five years of the conversion. Conversion contributions are those you made by converting a traditional IRA into a Roth.
On the other hand, you can generally withdraw Roth contributions tax-free and penalty-free. You shouldn't do it, though, because taking withdrawals mean you'll have that much less to continue investing on a tax-free basis. Also, if you need the money so badly that you tap your original contribution, you probably ought to keep working.

To Retire Rich, Save and Invest Early

If you want to retire rich, start saving investing early. The most powerful tool when it comes to retiring rich, is compounding your returns on money saved when you are young. Through the power of compound interest, cash invested today has a massive impact on your wealth level when you retire.
Look at it this way, assuming a retirement age of 65 and an annual compounded rate of return of 10%.
* Bob is 40 years old and invests $20,000 a year for retirement.
* Jenny is 21 years old and invests $5,000 a year for retirement.
By the time they retire, Bob will have invested $400,000 and Jenny $220,000 respectively. But because of the power of compound interest, Bob will retire with half as much money as Jenny, despite investing twice as much!
* Bob would retire with $1.97 million
* Jenny would with $3.26 million
So, what's the moral of the story?
Stop robbing your future retirement income to pay for luxuries today.
Maximize your annual contribution to your IRA
When it comes to your IRA contribution limits, Uncle Sam’s motto seems to be “use it or lose it”. Workers that don't make the maximum allowable contribution to their Traditional or Roth IRA by the cut-off date, are plain out of luck unless they are in their mid-fifties and qualify for catch-up contributions.
Take advantage of your employer matching funds
Many companies will match up to fifty-percent of the contributions employees make to their 401k and other retirement accounts. If your boss will match your contributions, take full advantage of it, as it is money for nothing... literally free money!
Don't take your retirement cash out when you change jobs
The average American worker will change jobs several times in their career. When this occurs, the most foolish thing you could possibly do is to cash out of your retirement plan. What you should do is roll over the proceeds into an IRA or your new employer’s 401k plan. Besides avoiding significant tax penalties, you will be able to keep your money working for you tax-free.
Avoid IRA withdrawal fees
There are numerous ways to withdraw money from your retirement account in the event of an emergency. However, before you even think about doing so, make absolutely certain that you have done everything required to qualify, otherwise, you will get a quite a shock when you are hit with what could be thousands of dollars in fees and penalties.
Expand the Pie
Don't just cut expenses - find a way to make more money! Get part-time work, or turn your hobby into a business enterprise. You should create additional streams of income to help fund your retirement.Often this is an excellent alternative to cutting costs and scrimping, because it allows you to maintain your current standard of living, while providing for your future retirement.

The Laws of Men & Love - A Layman's Philosophical Analysis of the Law

I know a lawyer, and today he said to me, “The law is everything. It is society.” When I heard this, my heart told me, “That is not true.” But I didn't know why.

When I got home that night, I went to sleep at midnight. I woke up at 4AM, and I remembered what the lawyer said, and what my heart said. My mind searched my heart and the world for the answer, and this is what I found:

The law does two things only: to limit what you can do to other people, and to establish the minimum of what you must do to other people. The law lives only in these two places - but love does not exist in either of these places.

For example, I can not say bad things about you, steal from you, hit you, or kill you – even if I think it will make me happy. These are the limits that the law sets as to what I can do to other people (in law books, maybe they are called restrictive laws). There are also laws that force me to do certain things. If I am a man, I have to pay taxes and serve in the army, and if I am a father, I have to give food to my son – even if it doesn't make me happy. These are the minimums the law sets as to what I have to do to other people (in law books, maybe they are called obligatory laws). But more than that, I don't have to do: I don't have to donate money to the government, or buy toys for my son if I don't want to.

The restrictive laws can be simplified into one rational principle: “You can do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt other people.” This is actually the way most people view their happiness and freedom. You are free to do whatever makes you happy as long as it doesn't get in the way of other people. The obligatory laws can also be simplified into one rational principle: “You have to do a few certain things to certain other people, but more than that you don't have to do.” This is actually the way most people view their responsibilities. Combine these two ways, and you see that this is how most people live their life – how they do the things they want, and how they do the things they don't want to do. According to the law, being a good citizen means balancing the pursuit of your own happiness with fulfilling your responsibilities to others.

But if I do nothing to you, that is okay too. When other people say bad things about you, or steal from you, hit you, or kill you, I can ignore you and it is not against the law. If I don't care about you, if I let you suffer and be unhappy, that is not against the law. This is how many people use the word “respect”: I won't bother you, so don't bother me. But this is not love. The same is true for the minimums: I have to pay taxes and serve in the army, but I do not have to love my country. I have to give food to my son, but I do not have to love him. The law does not teach you how to love or to have a heart – or tell you that you should have a heart. I can be a law-abiding citizen and break no laws, and yet have no heart. According to the law, it is legal to not care, to not love.

That is why listening to the law and the principles of reason teach you only how to think about yourself. Most of it tells you what you cannot take from other people. I cannot take your money, body, life, or privacy. When you take too much, the law speaks and comes alive, and seeks to punish you.

But the law does not teach you how to share with other people: if I am nice to you, say good things about you, help you, give you money, or love you, the law does not reward you. When you give more than is required by law, the law is quiet and does nothing - it is dead. The law does not exist in the places of love. When the heart is dead, the law is alive, and when the heart is alive, the law is dead. The heart exists in places beyond the law. Listen only to the law, and your heart will die.

Listen to your heart and the hearts of others, and give, and your heart will live. Happiness and love cannot exist when two people try to take from each other, or even if only one person gives and the other takes. The result is court – in fact, any time when someone goes to court, it's usually because they want to take something from somebody who doesn't want to give it. Happiness and love exist when two people or two sides give and go beyond the two rational principles of law – when they try to give and do more than is required. Two people who give stay outside of court, because they go beyond the laws of men – for they live from the heart through the laws of love.

Quit and Retire Three Years Earlier!

For most people, there is a direct correlation between how worried they are about retirement income, and how much they can actually do about it. This is because the more worried you are, the closer you probably are to retirement, and the less time you have to do anything – like save up. Effective ‘saving up’ requires time. Time so your money can grow. Save an extra $200 a month, three years before retirement (at age 62), and you’ll amass a grand total of $7,887 (averaging 6% growth). Not likely to have a big impact on your retirement lifestyle.
But what if you invested for retirement when you were NOT worried about it? What if you, say, quit smoking a pack a day at age 45 and took the money and invested that instead? (For the purposes of this illustration, let’s assume a pack costs $7.00 and you smoke a pack a day so you invest, for easy figure’s sake, $200 per month. Again, average compound rate of return is 6%.)
Instead of starting to save when you start worrying about retirement (at age 62), and amassing that grand total of $7,887 by age 65, you start saving when you’re NOT worried about retirement (at age 45 – by quitting smoking and saving that money) so you end up with, wait for it, --- $91,129 !
What will $91,129 do for you at age 65? It would provide you with $456 in additional monthly income for the rest of your life (continuing to average 6% growth), and you won’t have to touch your capital. Or, perhaps, you could choose to retire earlier!
Don’t start to worry, at age 62, and save a paltry $7,887 by 65. Instead, start saving $200 more a month at age 45, when you’re not worried, and have $69,892 by age 62! Then you could retire completely at age 62, by using both the principle and interest as income from 62 to 65. $69,892 would provide you with $2,100 in income for three years! Thus, quit smoking and quit working 3 years earlier!
Of course, most of us ‘act’ when we have the ‘urge’ to act. (Note how the words ‘urge’ and ‘urgent’ have the same root.). You will tend to act on your retirement plan when it is most urgent. But long term goals are, by their very nature, NEVER URGENT! Now, perhaps THAT is something to worry about.

Lessons for Life Love

Lesson Purpose: To show that love is a powerful influence in our life and is the cement that bonds families together.
The Lesson
"It is impossible to love and to be wise."Francis Bacon
"Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therein." BIBLE, Proverbs 15.17
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." BIBLE, John 3:16
"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." BIBLE, Mark 12:30
"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." BIBLE, Math 22:39
Where did it all get started?
Here's a little poem I wrote to my wife:
Adam Said
To Pat on Mothers Day
Saturday, May 8, 1999
Adam said, Eve my dear,
You've eaten the forbidden fruit.
She looked at him and answered back,
Yes, I'm getting the boot!
He said to her, Eve my dear,
I like your skin and hair,
And I get a little tingle
When with those eyes you stare.
She said to him, I’ll miss you so
When Father kicks me out.
Now don't you ever think of me;
Never give a pout!
He answered back with some regret,
I’ll dearly miss you too,
If I didn't have a lot more ribs
I'm sure with you I’d go.
That's right, she said,
You do have ribs a plenty more to spare,
But won't you miss this little rib?
Won't you miss my stare?
She stared at him, he looked away,
Then rubbed his perfect tummy,
You know, he said, I have a pain,
I'm really getting hungry.
She bid him come and sat him down,
And put his lunch before him.
He ate the fruit and felt real good,
"I'm going with you, honey!"
What is love?
For our purposes love is a strong affection for another, or others, based on family ties, personal ties, or the affectionate ties of lovers.
Love may be admiration based on the qualities or common interest of others.
Types of love are: The love of a child by its mother. The love of God as the Benefactor of mankind. The love of a young man and a young women who are engaged to be married to each other.
Love is the basis of survival
Think about it. A child requires extensive care from the day it is born until well into the teenage years. If a mother got tired of caring for the child and had no love for it, the care of the child would be left to others. If others did not surface, the child would parish.
Unfortunately, some children are abandoned everyday. Fortunately, most children are not abandoned.
Back to Korea
My infantry company in Korea during an attack on the Chinese picked up two Soviet trucks manufactured under the World War II Lend Lease Program, two dogs that we had to watch over or they would be eaten by our Korean friends, and two young boys, brothers who had lost their parents.
We loved those Russian trucks. They were much more reliable than ours. They were exactly the same as General Motors trucks made during World War II. So what happened? The army took them away from us because they were not regulation issue. When we came down from the freezing top of Hill 1243, the highest mountain on the line, our US trucks had all been damaged by the freezing weather and Service Company had to take us off the line.
The two dogs disappeared and ended up in a ROK army kettle.
Yes, we lost the two boys too, now dressed in cowboy suits we got them through Sears and Roebuck. The American Red Cross found their grandparents. They took the boys from our dangerous combat area. The love of the American Red Cross workers for the Korean people and the love of the boys’ grandparents gave the youngsters the bond they needed for survival in an awful war.
War is the breeding ground for the alphabet soup of human indignities
I had five Korean soldiers in my infantry platoon. One day, Ree Tay Hee was very sad. He had reason to be sad too. He had lost his father and two brothers to the North Koreans. He assumed they were dead. His thirteen-year-old sister and his mother lived in Seoul, which had been flattened by the North Koreans, the American Army, the Chinese, and then the American Army again. In fact it was my division behind the Marines who did the last flattening when they executed MacArthur’s daring attach from the sea at Inchon.
Ree Tay Hee’s mother and sister were supported by his older brother who worked on the Korean Railroad. He fell under the train and was decapitated. Now mother and daughter were alone with no means of support except, possibly, prostitution.
The story doesn't end there
When I got home from Korea, I got a letter from a man named Chick. I believe that he was from Tucson Arizona and I would give anything to be able to find that brave man. Chick was a section leader and a forward observer for the 81 millimeter mortars. He replaced me as forward observer when our platoon sergeant was hit and I became Platoon Sergeant at age nineteen.
Chick told me in his letter that Ree Tay Hee had been seriously wounded in the Iron Triangle. The situation couldn't have gotten worse. I don't know what happened to that family. I only know that I still have a great love for them and wish I could have been of help over the years. Let's hope that someone cared and gave them the love and aid they needed.
There is a difference between the Korean People and Americans in regard to that War. When, I got home from Korea, nobody gave a hell of beans. Most people didn't even seem to know the war was on if you judged by their actions. Nobody but immediate family members and friends cared when American blood was spilled there. Even today, it's mainly the Korean veterans who care about the sacrifices made there.
But the Korean people have a great love for the men from many lands that saved them from the North Koreans and the Chinese hoards. I've been back to Korea twice since the war. The first visit back was a traumatic experience. My talkative companion who was in Vietnam remained quiet while we flew over the mountains on which I had fought. He knew what I was doing. I was remembering every detail of the war as I knew it.
I left the hotel in Seoul and took the shuttle down town. I went in to a shop and told them I had fought there. They showed me a ton of love and wouldn't let me take the shuttle back to the hotel. The owner got his car and drove me back. The Korean Government continually welcomes veterans back to their country, gives them a banquet and a special medal and helps them tour the old battlefields.
That's the difference. They care. And care is just another way to spell LOVE.
A poem dedicated to a loving man
I write poetry. You can read my poetry and see my photographs of the Korean War if you go to http://www.tjbooks.com. Here is a poem I wrote about an extremely brave machine gun sergeant who had love for his family and his men.
Machine Gun Sergeant
Saturday, April 2, 1999
Below the Wachon Reservoir,
We walked along the river,
And then across the fields.
Dieter said, "This is where
The air force caught the Chinese
With there carts and horses."
"That's the hill
Where the machine-gun sergeant
Climbed to help his men.
He was supposed to
Go home that day,
Not a war to win.
"The sergeant said,
'I know I don't have to fight,
I can stay back here and watch,
But my men are scared,
And their sergeant is new,
I’ll lead them one more time.'"
Dieter lowered his head
And then he said,
"The fire was very heavy.
They took the hill
That bloody day,
But the sergeant never made it."
We found a house
Still intact.
We were very much surprised.
An octagon with a center patio,
Where a family
Once cooked their meals.
This must have been
A happy place
Before the armies came.
Little children
At mother's knee,
An abundant life they had.
Dieter said,
"He has two kids."
I said,
"I thought him dead."
I looked at Probe,
His familiar name,
I said,
"Please tell me more."
I saw a tear run down his cheek,
It wasn't there before.
The sky was clear,
A glorious day,
And we walked the fields some more.
We found a can from Russia,
And Kowalski read the label.
"I know the town
Where this was made,
I know who made this ammo."
I looked at Probe,
He looked at me,
And this is what he said,
"The machine-gun sergeant
Was hit in the groin,
He said, 'I’d be better dead.'"
No workers toiled
In the beautiful fields,
The war had done its dirt.
I wondered where the families were,
Were they dead
Or hurt?
Tomorrow,
We go back on the line,
To Heartbreak Ridge they say.
I looked at Probe
And this I said,
"At least we've got today."
The sergeant
Didn't have to fight.
He'd done his job well,
But he climbed the hill,
And got maimed for life.
How could he think so ill?
When it's time to go home,
It's time to go,
To play with fate is bad.
"He's the bravest man I know,"
Said Probe,
"He did it to be right."
I said, "What about his
Wife and kids?
What about their plight?"
"He had no choice,"
Said Probe,
"He had to fight."
We walked along
The dusty road
That led us back to camp.
I thought,
"How brave he was!"
I think of him a lot.
Here's another little poem about that war.
967Saturday, April 3, 1999
Now, that's a lot of lemons
If your making lemonade,
But if your counting ants,
It would hardly make a parade.
How about watermelons?
It would make quite a pile.
You could go from May through February
If you ate three each day.
How many American men died
In the 17th Infantry
Regimental Combat Team
In Korea?
The many Korean boys that served with us and died were not counted. I don't have the count on the Nigerians either.
You can't believe the love that Korean veterans have for each other. Going through life's trials with another human being brings with it a tremendous love for that person. Probe Dieter and I can read each other's minds even though he is in New York State and I'm in Idaho. I went home to Utah one time and I said to myself, Probe Dieter has been here. When I got back to Iowa, where I was teaching engineering at Iowa State University, I picked up the telephone and said, "Hey, Probe! Have you been looking for me?"
"Yes," he said. "I was in Utah and I couldn't find you."
On several occasions, I've picked up the telephone knowing it was Probe on the other line.
What is the most traumatic loss in a person's life?
You probably know that it is when a person loses his or her spouse. The relationship grows from the initial infatuation, to the love of courtship and marriage, and the increased love that bonds them together from living through life's trials and joys.
Each child that comes into a home, brings with it an enduring, eternal love. A touch of pain enters when the child leaves the nest, but more love comes as grandchildren are born. It's a process that never ceases until war or devastation from nature destroys the family. We see that everyday now, don't we. Some family links die off because no children were born for various reasons. Fortunately for mankind, the process goes on.
"No greater love has any man than to lay down his life for a friend."
Here is another story of love from my Korean experience.
The love here was for a stepbrother. We had been in a firing mission. We fired white phosphorous recoilless rifle shells into Chinese positions and then fired the 81 millimeter mortars shells upon the scattering Chinese. A major from division had come up on the line and ordered the fire mission. It was not a pleasant experience to see the young Chinese soldiers toss bodies like cordwood out of the positions they were digging.
Finally, the major told us what a fine job of killing our fellow men we had done, and left.
Six or seven of us stood talking after the slaughter. A corporal from Oklahoma told us that he had orders to go home but that he was not leaving until his stepbrother got his orders to go home too. His stepbrother was in the same company, Company B, 17th Infantry Regimental Combat Team.
If the brother had been a full brother, he would not have been allowed in the same infantry company. We told the Corporal to go home. We were getting the heaviest concentration of enemy artillery fire during the history of the Korean War (according to "Stars and Stripes."). We told him he could be killed and that it was better to let his stepbrother catch up with him.
The Corporal said, "If I was going to be killed, I would have been killed by now. I'm staying!"
Now, infantry men have their degree of superstition. We told him to take back what he said. We told him anybody could be killed at any time. We also told him that it was not only bad luck to say that you wouldn't be killed but that it was even worse luck not to go home when ordered.
The Corporal had a great love for his stepbrother. He would not leave him. About two hours later, I was told that he was killed.I don't remember the Corporal as being arrogant or stupid. I remember him as having a tremendous love for his brother. I remember that he had the courage to continually face enemy fire until his brother could leave. He paid with his life. "No Greater Love."
For The Little Children
Once upon a time there was a young prince who lived in a great stone castle on a big green mountain. He was old enough to start looking for a bride, but he knew he would not be able to do that. He knew that his parents, the King and Queen, would choose his bride for him. He thought, They will find me a bride in a foreign land and she won't even speak my language!
The prince was very sad.
One day, the Queen said to the King, "I'm concerned about the prince. He was always so happy. There was always a smile on his face. Now, I often see tears in his eyes."
The King said, "I felt the same way when I was his age. But what can we do? It has always been the rule that the King and Queen select the bride, not the prince. Surely we have more wisdom in such things than he does."
"Yes, My King, but I'm afraid the prince will run away rather than have us select his bride for him. What can we do?"
The king thought and thought. The next day he came to the Queen and said, "Let's have a grand ball and carnival. It will last a week. We will invite all the young princes and princesses with their parents as chaperones. We will see which princess he likes. If she is suitable, we will make the arrangements for the wedding. Now, the young prince must not think that he is selecting his own bride. We must stick to the traditions of our fathers."
The Queen said, "That is a marvelous idea. I'll see that the staff prepares for the celebration."
The great carnival started on Monday and the ball was to be held Saturday night. The prince spent time with each of the princesses, but after, Wednesday, he only was seen with one, Princess Nijinska. When she was young she was not pretty like the other princesses. She was known as the ugly duckling of princesses. But she always had a smile on her face, was very smart, and she liked the same things the prince liked.
When the King heard that the prince was spending his time with Princess Nijinska, he said to the Queen, "Surely, the prince does not want her for his bride. Do you remember what she looks like? She was such an ugly child. What if he is just being polite to her. He never has been rude, and he might just be helping her to have a good time while she is here."
The Queen smiled at the King. "You have misjudged our son. Remember when he was young. He loved toads more than frogs, and snakes better than bunnies. Looks are not the main thing with our son. He has to evaluate everything for it's true worth. Why, you taught him that looks can be deceiving."
The King sat on his throne and said, "Our son is also very clever. Maybe he is up to something."
The Queen laughed. "Like what? Well, maybe we will have to wait for the ball. Let us decide now. Whomever he dances with the last dance, shall be his bride."
The king thought that was a good idea.
At the Saturday night ball, the prince danced with each princess once, but not twice. He danced every other dance including the last dance with Princess Nijinska.
The king said, "She is like a beautiful swan on the lake. She moves with such elegance. In fact, she looks different tonight."
The Queen laughed. "You remember the princess as a child. She is woman now. She has changed."
The King laughed, "You could have told me that!"
The Queen smiled, "What kind of a surprise would that have been"?
"Right you are, My Dear Queen," said the King. "You have always filled my life with surprises. But that is only one reason that I love you. I even loved you before the last dance of the ball before my parents chose you for my bride. You see, I knew what you were up to, My Queen."

Love vs Lust

There is a great contrast between love and lust. Lust is more of a sexual or greedy feeling, while love is more of a secure and content filled feeling we get from giving and receiving. Lust does not have to be something sexual, it can be a greedy desire for more money and power, etc. But for this article, I am using it in its sexual context.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 sums up the common traits and variances of love and lust.
LOVE is kind = considerate, caring, giving, thoughtful, understanding
Lust is envy = jealous, greed, spite, resentment,
LOVE is not proud = humble, submissive, meek, modest
Lust is self-seeking = selfish, rebellious, rude, egotistical, hateful,
LOVE rejoices in the truth = God is love, Love is God = Wisdom, Holy Spirit,
Lust delights in evil = Satan, sin, wicked, iniquitous, immoral, dishonest
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1John 4:8AND
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we ought to also love one another. 1 John 4:11
The world has a superficial and selfish view of love, which has contaminated our understanding of what REAL LOVE is. The culture believes that love is something that makes us FEEL good and that it's acceptable to sacrifice moral principles to obtain such love. But in doing so this culture IS NOT obtaining the love characteristic but the lustful ones.
Love involves unselfish acts. Faith is the foundation of God's message. By putting our complete faith in God gives us the freedom to love others completely.
Matthew 5:27-28 says, "You have heard that it was said, "do not commit adultery, but I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right hand causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for you whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."
When Jesus said to throw away you right hand or gouge out your eye, he didn't mean in the literal sense because even a blind person can lust. Jesus' thinking was that if that were the only choice, then it would be better to go into heaven with one eye or one hand then to go to hell with two hands or two eyes.
Acting out lustful desires is very harmful in four ways.
1. Lustful desires destroys marriage
2. Lustfulness is rebelliousness to God
3. Lustfulness always hurts someone
4. Lustful acts leads to premarital sex
Jesus said the desire to have sex with someone other than your spouse is mental adultery. Therefore, If lustful desires are in our thoughts, then they most likely will come out in our actions!
"For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also." Luke 12:34
In essence, it's in what we THINK. What we crave and lust for in life shows our values and morals. What we think in our heart and mind comes back out in our actions.
Lustful thinking can turn into
1. Adultery = divorce
2. Premarital sex = genital diseases = lack of sexual interest with spouse
3. Sin = death
Sexual immorality is a temptation we all must face on a daily basis. God doesn't forbid sexual sins just to be difficult. God knows its power to destroy people lives physically and spiritually. God wants to protect us from damaging ourselves with immoral sexual desires. Sex outside of the marriage relationship always hurts someone. It hurts God because it shows that we care more about our own lustful desires than Him.
Paul said in Corinthians, "Do you no know that your body is the a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price (Jesus Christ death freed us from sin). Therefore, honor God with your body" 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20
Many people believe they have the right to do whatever they want with their own bodies. And they think this is freedom, but really, they are enslaved to their own lustful and sinful desires - they are in bondage and slave to their desires.
When we become Christian's (Christ ones) the Holy Spirit lives in us and fills us up, and we no longer own our own bodies, but we belong to God.
Do you love others like God wants you to love?
