I have formally resigned my position as editor for Mystic Moon Press. In addition, I have also sent a registered letter pulling all of my contracts due to non-payment. I have not received royalties, or payment for editing since 3rd quarter of last year, therefore I had no choice.

This saddens me greatly, and rumors are flying as the senior editor and other staff members have also resigned. Fictionwise no longer offers books from Mystic Moon Press and it is my understanding that others will follow suit in short order.

Supposedly the owner cashed the payments received for sales and kept the money for herself. This is an unsubstantiated rumor at this point, but one I think is likely. Regardless of the truth, I will be either seeking a new publisher or hopefully opening my own publishing company catering specifically to Canadian authors.

Thank you to everyone who purchased my works, the fact that you enjoyed them is far better payment than any monetary amount could ever amount to, yet money does keep food in my belly. So, please be patient, Chroma Shift - Assassins' Paradise (sequel to the exciting Assassins' Treaty) is finished and will be published as soon as the rights to the series revert to me.

Tiger's Return is well underway, but I haven't yet finished writing, with all the craziness of the past week. Still, I will continue to update you all, though I always update my website first, so if you want the news as it happens, visit http://canauth.ca

til next time, keep reading!

New Website address, update your favorites!

I'd like to announce to grand opening of the official CanAuth website in it's new home with a brand new look and feel. It was a wonderful success and I'm trying to find a market for it. I'll let you all know when and where it will be published once the details are arranged.

As far as the next interview goes, I've got a couple of options that I'm currently working on. I'm hoping to hear back from some people you'll definitely recognize but I don't want to jump the gun and spoil anything, so you'll have to be patient.

I'm quite disappointed in the publishing industry. It seems to take forever to get a response, which is bad enough, but when said companies tell you it will take X amount of time to respond, then I feel it's only reasonable to assume they stick to that schedule.

I sent an item in to one publisher a month ago, and they said one to two weeks...
I sent another item in two months ago, they said six weeks...

Now I can understand getting overworked and even running behind, but wouldn't it simply be polite of those people to send a quick note or even just post a message on the website to say they're behind?

Common courtesy seems to have gone the way of common sense...What a shame!

Until next time, when I hopefully will have a response from somebody and better news to talk about...

Busy writing, but here's a quick update

Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long between updates. I'm still working hard at completing the sequels to Tiger's Realm and Assassins' Treaty. I have managed to finish an Erotic novella titled "Conquest of Lust" which is now looking for a home. I've submitted it to a fine publisher and am waiting to hear back.

In the meantime I will continue to write and keep you all up to date as things progress. They are preying on young writers and that's the worst kind of low!

It's so difficult to get ahead in this business, yet some people (and I use the term loosely) feel they need to maker it harder for everyone.

Here's how it works...
They place an add of Craigslist or Kijiji or some such advertising board calling for resumes and sample submissions for articles. They then turn around and sell those articles to reputable companies, keeping the profits for themselves.

I know it's posted everywhere on the net but I have to say it again: RESEARCH! always check out the company that you are submitting to before sending your work. It takes only a few minutes to see if somebody is a legitimate company, so Google them!

If they are legit, they will have loads of information on the submission process and will not ask for a resume. Be wary of any adds on public boards, especially if they don't use industry terminology, like bio, synopsis, etc...

If you have a doubt, you're probably safer not submitting, but you could always ask my opinion, I'd be happy to refer you to a few good publishers who a accepting unsolicited manuscripts or Query letters. It's obvious from her comments that she isn't aware it is a series, but that's fine, because she'll be all the more excited when the next book comes out.
For those of you who are curious, check out the review HERE.

For those of you following Chroma Shift, you'll be pleased to know that I managed to get two more chapters done today and things are really picking up. He was kind enough to put myself and Nicole on the guest list, so we stayed on for one of the best concerts Sudbury has ever seen!

Keep an eye out for the March edition of Futureale magazine to find out what Liam had to say regarding video shoots, upcoming tours and a variety of more personal information!

Cancer Bats! Amazon and Tiger's Return!

That's right fans, keeping with my never-ending schedule of things to do, I'll be interviewing Cancer Bats' lead vocal man Liam Cormier for an upcoming article in the March issue of Futureale magazine! The interview will be performed at Jubilee Hall in Sudbury just before the concert starts on Saturday. Everyone around here is terribly excited, especially my step-daughter Nicole who has tickets to the show. Liam's publicist has graciously allowed me to bring Nicole to meet Liam which has out her teenage energy through the roof.

Aside from that I've added some things to Amazon that should be showing up shortly. Search inside the Book will be offered for Tiger's Realm and there is a feedback section on the page just begging (well not desperate begging) for people to comment.

As if that weren't enough, I am still hard at work on Tiger's Return, it should be in editing very soon. I've also submitted a full length novel to a different publisher. It is part of the Chaos series and is titled Created through Chaos. Your favorite characters John and Kelly will be returning, along with Kelly's sister, John's father and sister as well as a slew of other new characters. I'll keep you posted on the results of that querry as things progress.

For now, my plate is full and I'm still charging ahead with new ideas, talk to you all soon!

til then, keep reading!

Unfortunate event

It was a sad day this past Wednesday. Our family cat Sarina passed away at around 10 am. The family was devastated, especially the children. Obviously doing a live chat at the time when my family needed my support was out of the question. I do apologize for the short notice, but there was little warning of Sarina's condition. A loving pet for 17 years, she will be sadly missed by all of us. We will be putting a memorial page on the website over the next couple of days. I hope you'll stop by and take a moment to view some of our happy memories of Sarina.

I will re-schedule the chat just as soon as my schedule permits. I have a few items on the table at the moment but I imagine within the next few weeks I'll work something out. Until then, thank you for all of your support and I look forward to chatting with you.

Live Chat announced!

Kevin Grubbe will host a chat for any curious readers out there. I'm working my tail off to complete a few projects that are still in the works. I've also redoubled my advertising efforts and hope to be getting my own website soon. Don't worry, you'll all be the first to know the address once that's been decided.
The new site will most likely contain a chat room, detailed information about all of my writing, not just the stuff from Mystic Moon Press, and several other neat new twists.

In the meantime, I would love it if everyone would pop over to the following website. My darling little girl put this together for me and I know she'd be really happy if the hit counter went crazy. Feel free to send any thoughts to me and I'd be happy to pass them along. She's 14 and becoming a woman way too fast for my tastes, but I guess all Dad's feel that way. Anyway, be kind with your comments, and if you have any helpful tips for my future site, please feel free to pass them along as well.
As always, just
clic the pic!

Thanks in advance and I'll see you all soon.

Kevin

Happy New Year to some

Well, the holidays are over for me, though several of you are still awaiting new years. I'm trying to keep on top of edits, preparing for Christmas and doing NaNo WriMo, which is killoing me...LOL

Anyway, with luck Tiger's Return will be out in paperback next year. I can't say I've been more disappointed with any show in recent history. Even Lord of the Rings was more faithful to the novels than this piece of garbage! I'll give them credit for the big budget special effects and that's about it. The casting was horrid, I mean Zed is nothing like that! Richard couldn't have been more wimpy if my daughter had played him! Sure, the girls will drool over his bare chest, but seriously, the man couldn't pass for a woods guide to save his life. (Do I have to mention the fact that his eyes aren't even grey? Kahlan is another matter altogether, she was close, though again I have to point out the eyes. The list goes on to Chase, Darken Rahl, even the Mord-Sith in a dress was completely off!

Moving on the script, did the writers just skin the novels and make the rest up? Journey books don't appear until the Sisters of the Light show up in book two! Rahl had a way through the Boundary, and not assaulting it with Catapults! Kahlan's sister (fellow Confessor) did not die with an arrow in her back, nuff said? No? Then how about the fact that George Cypher was dead and the Book of Counted Shadows destroyed before the books even began!

Word of advice to all authors going into film (or worse, TV) contracts, don't give up your rights! I would never let some Hollywood hack destroy Tiger's Realm, and Terry should have known better! It's bad enough that your work has been slipping into mediocrity, but to allow this utter trash to be broadcast with your name on it? How much is an author's integrity worth these days? You didn't make enough from the books?

I am completely disappointed in you.

'til next time, avoid Legend of the Seeker!

Soon to be a horrifc master!

I'm so excited today, but first I apologize for the long wait between posts. I've been so busy getting ready for NaNo WriMo that I haven't had a spare moment! Halloween played a part in the delay as well.

Today is officially the first day to NaNo and I haven't written a single word in my story. First things first, anyone who saw my profile noticed I intended to write a historical fiction novel throughout the month. Demands for a sequal to Tiger's Realm are too much so I've conceded and will be working on book two of the series, tentatively titled "Tiger's Return"

Now, the whole Horrific master part...Forks of Prophecy has reached number 7 on the best seller list in the horror genre! I couldn't believe my eyes, Stephen King is at number 5, I'm so honored to be in such famous company. Thanks to all of you out there for buying copies of my work, you make it all worthwhile! I mean honestly, the way we treat each other is bad enough but when you throw in the government's apparent lack of concern for our well-being and the corporations trying to screw us over at every turn, how are any of us going to survive?

Anyone with half a brain knows we're headed for a major economic depression, and I hate to tell you folks, but we're on our own. Gas prices will continue to rise, which will cause the price of everything else to increase. In Sudbury alone over the past week, four mines have closed! That's people out of work! As prices rise and jobs disappear, how will we feed our children?

I got my hydro bill the other day, and called to ask why, if my water usage costs $53 does the waste water cost $68. Can you believe that the charge for waste water is 113% of the water you use? How does that make sense? It is impossible to waste more water than what you have coming into your house. If a litre comes in, no more than a litre can go out! Their explanation is that it costs more to get rid of the waste. Explain to me how it costs more for water to run down a sewer and through the treatment plant than it does for water coming out of that treatment plant in the first place!

I used to say that only the oil companies could get away with the illegal pricing practices so familiar to us, but it seems that other companies have decided to jump on board.

So where will these companies be when the recession hits and we can't afford to live? They'll be the only ones who can afford to pay each other if this trend continues! Don't expect the government to help out...Liberal, Conservative, NDP, Green, or John Smith's Independent party, it makes no difference! When are we going to get an official in office who looks out for us? Never I tell you, because the entire democratic system is busted. Democracy is a fools dream and we've been the fools. Not that Communism or any other ISM is better. The one and only thing you can count on in this word is YOU.

Moving on the the legal system, where only the rich get justice. If you're poor, you will always be poor! No matter how hard you struggle, no matter how skilled you are, you can't win! My kids want to live with me, but she sure as hell doesn't want me to have them, so I fight and I fight, but still no luck. I've had police reports, children's aid statements, but the court doesn't care how bad she is! My leg was broken because somebody ran a red light and T-boned our car, it's been a year and a half so far and I'm still not back to work! The police report clearly indicates she was 100% at fault and that I was 0% at fault. I had to wait a year, just to begin the lawsuit, and now we wait for their lawyers to respond! Why the delay? Why the wait? This is cut and dried, yet no resolution. I'm told it will take years to reach a settlement if it goes to court. On top of that, my lawyer is going to take 15% off the top and the insurance company apparently gets 35%. So out of my settlement, whatever I get, it will be 50% less than the judge's decision. Let's not forget that wonderful ex-wife of mine who is sure to try for another 25% so I expect to get a couple of thousand and a pat on the back. Well at least I should be able to walk, but running might never be possible.

So tell me folks, what's the point? Why do we bother to fight for our lives when this is the life we are given? I'll tell you why, because religion is also a thing of the past! It's not dead yet, but it is far from thriving. The less we fear some sort of all powerful being, the worse we treat our fellow man. If we don't believe in religion, then it's a short step to stop believing in god, which leaves us with no alternative but to struggle through this pointless existence we call life.

Alright, I vented a lot of steam today, and already I'm feeling a bit better. There's still tons more on my plate, but at least I cleared the air a bit.

Want to prove me wrong? Then tell everyone you know to buy a copy of my book and make me rich. Yeah, like that's going to happen.

Out in the cold!

I can't believe it, We had snow this morning, well technically it was last night. This past week has been cool, mid to low teens(That's Celsius) but all of a sudden it's below freezing and snow is on the ground. Most of it melted throughout the day, but I expect more is on the way. I'm really not much of a winter person, which is an odd thing for me to say considering I moved to Sudbury recently. An intelligent man might have chosen to move south, but not me, I hate the cold so I'll surround myself with it. Lucky I didn't end up in Alaska.

News news news... I've decided to participate in NaNo WriMo this year. Not only will it be a challenge to me as a writer, but it will hopefully allow me to meet a few of the northerners who are now my neighbors. For any of your interested in checking out my profile, here's the link. Feel free to check back throughout November to watch my progress, kick me in the butt, or add me to your list of friends. For those of you unfamiliar with the event, it is basically a self-challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I've decided to increase the challenge by writing a historical fiction, though is is beginning to take on the qualities of an alternate history. To be honest, I won't know until I actually start writing (Which isn't until November 1st) but I'll do my best to stay on track. I have the spark of a good idea which I hope will turn into the fires of inspiration. Cross your virtual fingers for me.

I'll have more news by Friday about the state of my leg, I get the cast off on Thursday and they'll evaluate, but most likely it will be recast for two more weeks.

'til next time, keep reading!

And don't forget to buy a copy of Chroma Shift - Assassins' Treaty to enter the riddle contest!
