With today’s technonolgy we make hundreds of choices per day, many times per hour. Do I reply to that email/text or just let it go; How do I respond to the irate customer who is being completely unreasonable; to how do I react to my spouce right NOW!

Our choices really do affect our quality of life.

Are you reacting or responding?

You ask what is the difference? I’ll give an illustration. If you were very sick and you went to the doctor; he then diagnosed you and gave you a very high powered medicine. After several days you went back to the doctors office for a follow up, which one of these phrases would you rather hear him say?

1) Your body is “REACTING” to the medicine and we have to take immediate action! or

2) Your body is “RESPONDING” to the medicine beautifully.

You have a choice in every decision and situation you encounter, React or Respond. It’s your choice! No one can (or will) make that choice for you, it is completely up to you if you live your life reacting or responding, choosing to be positive and learn from setbacks or negatively beating your self up-(and everyone else around you) for what has happened to you.

Here is a great story that I believe exemplifies the essence of responding with a positive attitude, no matter what the circumstances:

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, ‘If I were any better, I would be twins!’

He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, ‘I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?’
He replied, ‘Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or … you can choose to be in a bad mood .

‘Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,’ I protested.

‘Yes, it is,’ he said. ‘Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you respond to situations. You choose how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood.

The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live your life.’

I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life responding instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, ‘If I were any better, I’d be twins…Wanna see my scars?’

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

‘The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter,’ he replied. ‘Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices:

I could choose to live or…I could choose to die. I chose to live.’

‘Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?’ I asked

He continued, ‘…The paramedics were greatʼ.

They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘he’s a dead man’. I knew I needed to take action.’

‘What did you do?’ I asked.

‘Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,’ said John. ‘She asked if I was allergic to anything ‘Yes, I replied.’ The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled,

            GRAVITY!!!

Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.’

You could see their attitudes changing, the expressions on their face, their very body language changed from -”lets help this guy die peacefully” to “This guy is going to live and we are going to make it happen!”

He lived, thanks to the skill and determination of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude…

I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

IN today’s fast paced, drive through world we have express everything. Fast food, drive through coffee, drive through marriages and even speed dating to take the wait out of courtship. Most people text instead of having conversations, email co-worker instead of walking to the next office and having a face to face encounter. Understand that I am not anti technology, I have a crackberry (or a phone like one) I obviously have a computer, and am semi educated in how to use it and I am one of the worlds best text masters. I eat fast food on occasion and yes have driven through to get a coffee.

But all of this lack of human interaction has created a void in our lives. A void that life coaching fills perfectly. Human interaction (even on a phone session) with another live human being, who’s sole focus during that time is helping you to achieve the very maximum level of life purpose and life experience possable. This appeals to many, many people.

Really, where else can you talk to someone who is focused on your future and the purpose you were created to fulfil during your life here on earth. And where can you focus all of this energy and determination in a productive and positive direction, in the direction of your ultimate purpose?

Sound too good to be true? It is what I do most of each day!

Focusing on your future, designing a plan to achieve your purpose and fulfilling your destiny, that is as anti “drive through-quick fix” as it gets, and for good reason.

Question: What is the persons name that works the drive through at you local McDonald’s, or the fast food restaurant you frequent most? Hmmmm, can’t remember?…the person is different every time you go?…..or maybe you say “who cares?”…and that would be my point exactly!!

You do not have a meaningful long lasting relationship with the drive through person (if you do, you need therapy), and guess what…the drive through person cares about as little about you.

But focusing on your purpose is not the drive through persons purpose, its mine. My purpose is to help you find yours, and that is why it takes someone who genuinely cares about your future, your destiny, your purpose to work with you in designing the journey of your life.

You get one shot at what you were put here to achieve…why would you guess your way through it?

Until next time…

Life Coaching is for people that are ready to create a remarkable life for themselves. Sure you may be successful already, possably increadibally successful, but what good is the corner office, making a lot of money, or sitting on the boards of numerous organizations if it doesn’t really make you happy or - even worse, it is making you miserable.
A life coach is skilled in helping you to make radical as well as subtle improvements in your life. If things are pretty good, but you want them to be great…Coaching is for you!

You say, “but I don’t need a coach, I’ve gotten this far without one”. I have one question for you, How’s that working out for you? Are you where you thought you would be at this point in your life? Really? Do you wake up every morning with increadible anticipation to face the day? Excited about what you do and who you chose to do life with? Or, do you wake up every morning, or even some mornings, dreading to have to “do it all over again”?

If Michael Jordan had a head coach, a shooting coach and a strength coach; if Tiger Woods has a swing coach; if Kristi Yamaguchi has several coaches and all top elite athletes have coaches, why would you even think of walking through the most important events of your earthy existance (your life!) without one?

A Life Coach is not a therapist…much more than a consultant… and not just a friend: Your Life Coach is your personal expert to help you realize your full potential! Don’t you deserve to have an expert committed to your success? Again, its your life, who should be more dedicated to improving it and making it its fullest than you.
Anything you can do, you can do it faster, you can do it better, and you can do it more effectively with a coach!

As your Life Coach I will usually work with you over the phone, often in weekly sessions, to partner with you in identifying what you want, finding your innermost values and goals, identifying your strengths, helping you eleminate self sabatoging thoughts and actions, encouraging you to take action, and helping you achieve success. Success, at its foundation, means being your best, most authentic self, living with integrity, doing work/activities that you love, being healthy, having financial freedom, and living in happiness and enjoying loving relationships. Whether you want help achieving a specific goal, finding a career direction, or buffing up your entire life, as your Life Coach we will work together to get there faster.

As your Life Coach we will work through powerful questions that will help you focus in on what is most important for you right now. Skilled in clearing away the clutter and energy drains that keep you from being your best we will work to unleash your own greatness!
What do you think you could accomplish if you could release 10% more of your potential? What about 25% or 50%?! Imagine how life would be!

Life Coaching can help with all aspects of your life: Family, career, finances, relationships, living environment, health and spirituality! I call this LifeFusion! Fusing all of the aspect of you into a cohesive and balanced life. Much more than simply existance but a real, purposeful life!

If you continue as you are right now, what will your future be like? What if you actively started to design your life, starting right now?
Where would you like to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? What would it be worth to you to accelerate your own growth and joy?
I have experience helping people like you achieve their best. I will even offer you a free initial session to discover coaching for yourself. You deserve to treat yourself to this powerful experience! If you don’t who will?

Have you ever had a realtionship where the other person had only your best interest at heart?
If you answered yes, where is that relationship at now?

As your Life Coach, we will work together toward building and fulfilling your ultimate life.
Notice I said we, together, and your life!
Whatever your current state, your current outlook or position I will be someone on your side, your support system and your…well…. coach!

This is your life. Where do you want to go, who do you want to be, and when are you going to start moving in that direction? But first, you have to know what direction to begin towards.
This is where as your Life Coach, I will skillfully help you determine your goals, dreams and what you want your future to look like.

We will also identify your limiting beliefs and those self sabatoging thoughts and habits that are holding you back from greatness. Good realy is the enemy of great. We settle for good friendships and miss truly great ones, we stop at having a good job and miss the career that we could be passionate about, we settle for a good marriage instead of becoming the unity that drives all other areas of our lives with passion, hope and joy. We settle-period.

“Think about what your life would look like now if you had taken action and made these changes 5 years ago. Don’t wait another 5 years and wonder where the decade went.”

Action is the key word here. Many people read motivation or self improvement books, listen to tapes or buy videos and get all charged up to make the change. Then tomorrow happens, then the day after and the day after that, and they slip back into the same patterns and habbits that keep them where they are; a rut.

Motivational books and videos are good resources and can be extrememly valuable to reitterate actions you have made committments to take. As your coach I will be there in those times of doubt, fear and second thoughts. When challenges threaten your new, vibrant future your coach can take you through the process of looking at situations from a different prospective and holding you responsable to what you prommissed your self.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents

Values
In order to be motivated it is important to know and understand your values. In my experience most people do not know their core driving values (I know I wasn’t absolutely sure about my core values until I hired my first coach). I am not talking about morals (right and wrongs) I am talking about what gets you out of bed every morning, what drives you. By identifying your values you begin the process of motivating yourself to reach your goals with increased clarity and less stress. You cannot determine your true goals until you identify your values.
An example. You might think your goal is to have a less stressful life. That is too ambiguous and broad. There is virtually no way to quantify that.
But after identifying your values, we determine that your true value is to have more time to spend with your family. Now we have a target to begin to narrow our focus on how to accomplish the goal of “less work”.

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Thomas Edison

Motivation

Truthfully, motivation comes from within the individual. No one can motivate another person. You can only motivate yourself. Others may inspire you to get motivated to achieve your goals but you have to motivate you. Working with a coach is a way to achieve what you are working on easier, faster and with more energy and enthusiasm because they can inspire you to define the goals that lead to your ultimate life so that your are motivated to act upon it.

“Inspiration is why you get out of bed in the morning, and
motivation is what keeps you from going back 5 minutes later.”

How many men did you know that were inspired to start boxing after they saw their first Rocky movie, but weren’t motivated to go to a gym and start?

This is where values and motivation connect. If you are inspired to start boxing by a movie but your values are not in line with punching someone else in the face over and over again you will not be motivated to get up at 5:am and run for hours, drink eggwhites and do bag work for hours on end.

And this is where most people quit, or atleast they fail to understand why they can’t finish a certain goal. Until it lines up with your values and you identify and connect them together the motivation to charge through life’s battles soon fades. When you have the guiding principles of your true values as a constant motivator you have the ability to continue and accomplish those things you only dreamed of before.

Wow, how life can hit ya coming and going. This week was a buzz of happenings as I am sure all of you have busy lives and are continually trying to catch up.
So why is that?
Why do some people seem to get more done in their time than others? We hear people say “if I only had more time” but truth is we all have the exact same 24 hours. It must be how we use them.
This isn’t going to just be another “efficiency blog” however I want you to think of a couple of points that have helped me tremendously.

One is the 72 hour rule:
We all have multiple tasks going at the same time. One of my former boss’ actually had a phrase (SEMP) and beat it into us every chance he got. SEMP is Simultaneous Execution of Multiple Priorities. Now for you brethren triple type A personalities, I just got your attention. We who like to keep as many balls in the air as humanly passable tend to see this as a type of self worth. “Well nobody could take my place, I have way to many complicated items going”. However, if you have ever been part of a corporate takeover or company merger, you know very well how fast ANYONE can be replaced.
The problem is that the SEMP time system isn’t very efficient, and doesn’t work very well for “work” type tasks. The devil is in the transition. It takes me at least five to ten minutes to “get back to where I was” after an interruption or in transition from one task to another, and the length of transition becomes longer the more complicated the tasks become.
Therefore, if you are transitioning or interrupted ten time during a day you could be wasting over an hour and a half per day every day in just switching your focus. And I would bet that the waste of time is much greater than that.
The 72 Hour Rule is where you make a pact with yourself, and other team members if necessary, that for the next 72 hours you are going to focus on ONLY ONE task until that task is either finished or to the point where you want it to be. Many times, simply by the efficiency of not switching focus multiple times a task that would have taken three days, is cut to one or two days of intense focus.
Now you can begin to see real efficiency in your work load.
As I stated before the 72 hour rule works great with work type of processes. Obviously there are portions of your life that you must multi-task; cooking breakfast while dressing four kids, preparing lunch boxes, feeding Fido, combing hair, picking a child off of the highest shelf of the bookcase before he/she jumps on the younger sibling, and so forth.
This is just one of the areas that, as your Life Coach, we can work through. As your Life Coach, I am focused on improving every area of your life, including your work and professional life. Although many people only think of a Life Coach as helping someone through a life transition, like a divorce or career change, my philosophy is that all of life is a transition.
As your Coach my job is not to help just one area of your life but to help you transition into a better, more enriched life.

Until next time…

Since you have finished the Life Wheel Balance check now I want to walk you through an area of the life wheel that many life coaches leave out.
Take another look at your wheel of life, but this time don’t look at the balance of your wheel but look at the overall size of your wheel. Are most of your responses at the 4, 5 or 6 range? If so then you are living a relatively “small” life.
Take a look at it this way if a 10 is a happy and fulfilled life then what is a four? Sure at this point your wheel may be in balance but what good is a balanced wheel of all fours or fives?
All this means is you are equally miserable in all areas of your life.
You will remember, our life is not a dress rehearsal, nor is it meant to be the size of a small pan. It can be as full and as fulfilling as you’re willing to make it. The interesting thing about this, as we will continue to learn, is that pumping up your life doesn’t necessarily mean you need to add more to it. More level 5 activities doesn’t get you where you want to be.
Let’s look at the family, friends and social relationships sector. At this sector averages of five in the score that you gave it what is keeping it from being a seven or eight? Is it simply committing more time to your current relationships? Is it going deeper into relationships that you have? Or, is it the lack of any meaningful and interactive relationships, and you are in desperate need of finding people you can truly share the journey of life with?

Another example. Let’s look at the partner, love, relationships area. If this area is a five or below this could mean several things. It could mean a lack of a partner or loving relationships, or it could mean that your love or partner relationships just are not very deep and meaningful. Or it could mean that your love, partner, and relationships are one-sided and you feel that you are pouring more of yourself into your relationships than other people are. In any of these cases it is critical that you take action immediately to either even out the workload of the relationships, or find entirely new and fulfilling love or partner relationships. Either way, your health depends on healthy and vibrant partner, love, relationships that poor as much into your life as you do to others.
So used the life wheel, often to gauge where you are in each of the critical areas of your life and determine those areas that you need to devote additional time and resources to in order to live a more fulfilling, satisfying and loving life.

Until next time…

Many of us feel as though our life is out of balance at times. The constant tug of career, finances, relationships and other areas of our lives take priority, at certain times, over others such as recreation, family, health and fitness. There are seasons in life where these “should” take precedent over other areas, but only for a short time. Take, for example, the student in law school. Their focus for that time will be on learning, and also work, while their health, and certainly finances and recreation will take a back seat.
This is completely understandable and expected, but again this is only healthy for a season. Far too often the law student who suddenly gets a job at a major firm continues this work habit in these areas of their life never getting back into balance. We see this also in the medical profession and many other intensive educational experiences, where family, friends, social relationships, even spirituality suffer at the expense of a career or a driven mentality.

So where are you compared to your ideal balance of your life?

If you look just to the right of this blog you will see a link labeled “Interactive Wheel of Life”
Click on that link and then push the button in the middle labeled “Draw Your Own Wheel”. A pop up survey will appear, so go ahead and rank the ten areas of your life on a scale of 1 - 10; with 10 being that you are completely satisfied and fulfilled with that area of your life.
Once you (honestly) fill in the survey then print out your wheel of life.
Notice the overall shape of your wheel. If it were on a car would you be in trouble? Is your wheel shaped more like an egg? Does one set of responsibilities take a backseat to others?
What are you sacrificing now that enables you to have a higher score on something else?
The flat spots on the wheel are those areas that you need to take time to nurture. Are you sacrificing Family for Career or money? How are you spiritually?

As I stated before there are times that some of these items will naturally be out of balance, but for the most part we must continually check and recheck to make sure one of the areas isn’t sneaking up to an unhealthy level of falling out of relevance.

to be continued……

I was watching one of my favorite shows on TV (which isn’t saying much since I only watch about two hours of TV per week) called “The Human Body-Pushing The Limits” on The Discovery Channel. This program shows how the body reacts to different situations in life, especially extreme situations. It is fascinating, especially to a body builder who has spent the last 15 years tricking my body into building and maintaining a large amount of muscle that it naturally doesn’t want to.
On this particular episode they featured the brain and how it reacts during dreaming. One particularly interesting part detailed, that as we sleep the logic center of the brain shuts down but that your brain actually becomes up to four times more active than while awake. Processing all of the information that was stored in the short term holding places in your brain, discarding the irrelevant and placing the relevant issues and events into long term memory. This is no small feat because, according to the program, the brain processes one hundred trillion instruction ever second…yes second. Now, I’ve already told you that I am a body builder so I even had to spell check trillion just to write this blog.
The amazing point that they made was that the reason that our dreams are many times very non-sensible; is that, with the logic center turned off our brain has the freedom to go places that it wouldn’t venture into while awake.
They gave several examples of how people dreamed the answer to very complex questions that, in a waken state they haven’t been able to figure out. One example was a NASA scientist attempting to work out how to solve the problem of building a space station for astronauts to live in while not having a place to live in while building it. Even describing the problem is difficult.
How did he solve it, he dreamed it. And when they implemented his dream it worked!
Imagine that, after working on a complex problem for years, the brain solves it in one night, once logic was taken out of the way.
I don’t think it is a far stretch to make the point that our “logic” is one of the things that gets in the way of our dreams when we are awake. We all have hopes and dreams for our life, but we allow our “logic center” to shut us down before we have the opportunity to “test” (live) our theories in real life. We talk our selves out of even trying to reach our dreams, telling our selves that “logically” we can’t achieve them, so why bother trying.
Yet if you look at many of history’s most successful and innovative people, many of them were far from what was called logical at the time. Think Einstein, relativity- whats was so logical about that in the early 1900’s. Even modern creative geniuses, are considered “less than logical” at the time of their idea generation; think Bill Gates. Who would think that it would ever be logical, where all the computer and operating systems developed would be at today. Do you think that anything about the Internet is logical? We can’t even comprehend the total amount of information on it at any given time because during the time it would take to calculate that number, the amount if information on the internet will double.

So if we learn anything about this it’s this.

WAKE UP! AND LIVE YOUR DREAMS!!!

Don’t let logic get in the way of you trying to achieve your dreams, success isn’t always logical.

Until next time…

You have been created for a specific destiny. You have been uniquely designed to achieve and exceed in specific areas. These areas you are gifted in and come easy to you.
Then why are so many people so miserable in their lives? Why do they go through life with little happiness or joy, stuck in unfulfilling, mundane jobs, relationships and existence. You can’t really call what they are living even a life, but merely an existence.
Why do people continue, day after day to exist in this state.
It is because they are not pursuing their dreams and desires. They are not living according to their purpose, they are not living in their destiny.
The reason so many people exist with little enthusiasm, or passion is because they are not living pursuing their purpose. If we are not moving forward toward our purpose there will always be tension and stress in your life.
An unfulfilled destiny or purpose is the second greatest tragedy there is.
Living ones entire life, getting to the end and realizing that you have missed your purpose, is unimaginable.

I once heard a story of a man who had lived a good and purposeful life. All throughout his life he was a history buff, especially studying military strategy and the great generals throughout history.
When he went to heaven he noticed St. Peter soon after he entered and just had to ask him one question:
St. Peter, he asked, I know you have seen many
things and you greet every person who comes here, I just have to ask you one question. Sure said St. Peter, Well as you probably know I have studied all the great generals throughout history and just want to know who was the greatest general of all time? St. Peter smiled and walked him over to an area where a group of people were sitting, and he said “do you see that man sitting on the very end, right over there?” “He was destined to be the greatest general of all time. ”

The man looked again and said to St. Peter, wait a minute I know that man. He was just an ordinary man, nothing special about him, he wasn’t even in the military!
St. Peter put his hand on the mans shoulder and said: “I know, but he was supposed to be greatest General of all time, but he didn’t pursue his passions and he didn’t utilize his God given strengths to excell in his purpose, so we had to use someone else”.

I don’t want that to happen to any of you. And there is absolutely no reason for it to.

for you to seize this moment?
