I am active on Pinterest and knowledgeable for how most of this works but still find that this is an excellent resource. For me, it really talks to taking my activity on and use of Pinterest to the next level. One thing I learned for example is that I can create boards that not only I, but other pinners of my choice can contribute to. I also learned about using the mobile app and how to avoid copyright infringement.

If you are interested in Pinterest, whether a newbie or experience user, I recommend getting this book!

Marvel's The Avengers - Review and Press Release

I had the wonderful opportunity to review the movie Marvel's The Avengers prior to it's US release. Although I saw the movie May 1st, I was not allowed to post my review until opening day (or later).

I have attended quite a few pre-premier films, this is probably my favorite. The movie had a plot, was action packed and remained true to each superhero. In addition to action the film was loaded with humor - both Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow were terrific. Both were spot on with the lines. See two clips from the movie below

Growing up I loved Superman, Batman, Spiderman and Wonder Woman. In the 70's and 80's these were quite popular. Because this should be a huge, ongoing success, superhero fever is going to have a resurgence. Before you see the movie, make sure that you familiarize yourself with the following characters (from the Disney Press Release Materials)

CAPTAIN AMERICA / Steve Rogers

After a top secret Super-Soldier program transformed frail Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) into the powerful and heroic Captain America, his amazing WWII exploits made him a living legend. Steve saved New York City and turned the tide of the war, but crashed into the Arctic during his final mission. Awakening in the modern day, Steve learned that he had spent decades frozen in the icy tundra. Now, Steve Rogers finds himself alone in a modern world that he hardly recognizes. When Nick Fury (Samuel L. On top of being an eccentric genius, a billionaire, a playboy and a philanthropist, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is also the armored super hero known as Iron Man. Fresh off of defeating enemies the world over, Stark reluctantly agreed to serve as a consultant to Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) top-secret peacekeeping and intelligence agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, with a global crisis on the horizon and the fate of the world in the balance, Stark must again power up his Iron Man armor to save the world, and become a full-fledged member of The Avengers.

THOR / The God of Thunder
An arrogant prince from the distant land of Asgard, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was banished to Earth after his irresponsible behavior threatened his homeland. While in exile on Earth, Thor learned humility and helped to save his new friends from a destructive threat sent by his brother Loki. In the process, Thor redeemed himself in the eyes of his father, Odin, the King of Asgard. After being welcomed back to Asgard as a hero, Thor must now return to Earth once again to prevent a cosmic-level catastrophe. With Mjolnir in his hand, a legendary hammer with immense power, the mighty warrior soon finds himself drawn into an unlikely alliance with Nick Fury’s secret initiative, The Avengers, lending his power to their cause against his wayward brother, Loki.

THE HULK / Bruce Banner
After a gamma radiation experiment went awry, mild-mannered scientist Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) found himself with a peculiar condition. When angered or provoked, he would transform into the uncontrollable, green-skinned monster known as the Hulk. Now, fearful of the damage that the Hulk could inflict, Dr. Banner chooses to live a discreet life in remote parts of the world, working to cure the sick and help the poor while trying to elude those who would take advantage of his ability to change into the enormous, green menace. When a mounting threat calls for Banner’s specialized scientific expertise, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury recruits him, knowing full well that the incredible strength of Banner’s alter ego, the Hulk, would be an asset to The Avengers.

HAWKEYE / Clint Barton
One of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most elite agents, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), code-named Hawkeye, is the greatest living marksman on Earth. Armed with his weapon of choice, the recurve bow, Hawkeye fires his arsenal of custom augmented arrows, specialized for any number of specific situations, with perfect precision. With the potential for global catastrophe on the horizon, he employs his amazing combat skills to fight along side The Avengers.

BLACK WIDOW / Natasha Romanoff
S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), is one of the world’s greatest spies and quite possibly the world’s most skilled assassin. Armed with an extensive arsenal of specialized weapons like widow stings and cluster bombs, as well as a vast repertoire of martial arts skills, Romanoff’s unique talents make her one of director Fury’s top agents and an integral part in assembling The Avengers.

LOKI
After his bid to overthrow the throne of Asgard was thwarted by his brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the evil Loki (Tom Hiddleston) retreated to lands unknown to plot his revenge. Not just against his brother, but against Earth, whose inhabitants Thor now protects. Loki, now returns with a nefarious plot to conquer Earth and will stop at nothing to see his vision realized. When his misuse of power threatens the entire planet, it may take more than The Avengers to stop him.

The Walt Disney Studios announced today that Marvel’s The Avengers posted an estimated $200.3 million in its domestic debut May 4-6, shattering previous records and positioning the film as the highest-grossing domestic debut of all time. The film’s cumulative global box office gross is an estimated $641.8 million over 12 days in release.

In just three days, Marvel’s the Avengers is the fastest movie to reach $200 million domestically. The domestic debut kicked off Friday, May 4 and marks the second highest single day take of all time at $80.5 million. Saturday’s box office gross of $69.7 million is the highest Saturday take of all time. Moviegoers gave Marvel’s The Avengers a rare and perfect A+ CinemaScore.

Marvel’s The Avengers began opening internationally April 25 and crossed the $600 million mark globally May 6 after just 12 days in release.

International box office highlights include:

Opened May 3 in Russia with $17.9 million, the biggest Marvel opening weekend ever

Stanley Steemer - Spring Cleaning Review and Giveaway

When offered the chance to do a review for Stanley Steemer I jumped at the chance. When we purchased our new home, it was new to us, but not entirely new (about 6 - 7 years old). Although the carpet was in good condition, it was original to the home. Flash forward 4 years - three kids, a puppy and normal wear and tear, this carpet had seen better days.

We actually have a steam cleaner and we probably steam clean the carpets about 1x per month. Although they will look clean at first, some of the stains eventually magically re-appear. I was not sure how much different the results would be from getting the carpet professionally cleaned but I was anxious to see.

Setting the appointment was very easy - I went to the Stanley Steemer website, entered my Raleigh zip code and started entering the rooms to be cleaned. I selected the main hallway, staircase, upstairs hallway and all 4 bedrooms. As I added different my selections, the site tallied up how much it would cost so I could stay within budget. Once done, I confirmed the date and time and was finished! The day before and the day of the cleaning I received a confirmation call from the Customer Service department at Stanley Steemer. If you are interested in scheduling you can also call 1-800-Steemer as an alternative to scheduling online.

When the gentlemen arrived they walked us through the house and confirmed that what we selected was correctly ordered. They they explained the other services offered. We opted to have protection added to the staircase and deodorizing. Once we were through with the walk through, the gentlemen started cleaning the carpets. They raked the carpets, pre-treated problem areas and then started cleaning, room by room.

After they were through I can honestly say that both my husband and I were shocked at the difference. WOW! The carpets looked brand new. There were a couple of spots that they were not able to get up in the girls' rooms but we were surprised that almost everything did clean up nicely. It has been a week now and the carpets still look great. I will DEFINITELY be getting the carpets cleaned professionally again.

Please see Before and After shots. The horrible mystery stain on the stairs? Gone! Grungy spots here and there? Vanished! I have to say that I am one very happy customer.

I have reviewed quite a few products. This is one of my favorites for sure. I have used Char Crust in roasts, on pork chops, chicken and steak. I have used Char Crust in my slow cooker and baked in the oven. Now that it is Spring time, I look forward to using on the grill.

After switching providers, our interent has been down intermittently all week but I am glad to say that I am back. That said, I am behind (very behind) on reviews and hope to catch up this week :) My first featured review is on CoffeeTable, a new iPad App.......

iPad apps are taking off - there truly is an app for everything! One of the newest trends is apps created to make shopping on the iPad easier. With Mother's Day and Father's Day around the corner, timing is great to try out CoffeeTable!

CoffeeTable is an app designed exclusively for iPad users. What makes CoffeeTable different from other iPad apps is that it is the only app where you can not only browse through the catalogs online, but also also order in app (select items).

I have actually been using this app for a couple of months now and have been impressed with the quality of retailers, the crispness of the images and the ease in navigating.

CoffeeTable Review:
- Type of Retailers - Many different catalogs are offered. Most of the catalogs are upscale but there is a wide variety to select from. There type of storefronts vary greatly.......Food, Toys, Clothing, Home Decor, . From well known retailers (Hearthsong, Land's End, Crate and Barrell, etc.) to specialty retailers, there truly is a store and a gift for every budget and for all preferences.
- Categorization Catalogs are viewable four different ways:

MY REVIEW: I found the app very easy to navigate. I preferred to find stores via "All" retailers but also searched by Featured and by category. I checked out several retailer and the shopping options for each.

- Savvy Spender? Most retailers have some sort of discount offered - the retailer I purchased from had Free Shipping Also, Price Checking could not be more simple! When you click on the black icon you can select the color/size/type of product and the correspesponding price will populate. If a product is out of stock, the website indicates such.
Note: Most retailers were not static - because this app features catalogs, the selection does change somewhat frequently. The bigger retailers seem to maintain a consistent presence, but the specialty retailers were subject to change.

- Giveaways are often offered in App. Register to win Gift Certificates from featured reatailers.

- Buying is easy! Most of the items are available for purchase in-App, but some do direct you to the customer webstie to complete the purchase. The retailer I purchased from had many secure payment options available, including PayPal.

- New Retailers may be "New" to you - I was familiar with most of the retailers but was introduced to several new companies as well, some of which I will definitely be visiting and purchasing from in the future.
After weeks of deliberating I narrowed down my selections and decided to order gift for my husband, a personalized item from Personal Creations. Not only did I order an item via my ipad, I also had it personalized! I simply added to my cart, opted to check out as a guest - filled in my information, selected my payment option and completed my purchase.

Tear it up! mixed media card

A lot of stamping, embossing, cutting, tearing, cropping, curling, coloring and pasting.... I love the turquoise-green with the orange!

This was fun to make and a great way to experiment with different techniques.
