Malindo Air launches two new international flights

Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd will start two new international flight services between Langkawi and Phuket, Thailand and between Johor Baru and Guangzhou, China from March 26 and April 2, respectively.

In a statement today, the full service carrier said a narrow-body Boeing 737-800 will be deployed for the Johor Baru-Guangzhou sector. This new service is in addition to the airline's existing daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou.

"This new route will allow passengers to plan on a twin city tour and take advantage of Johor Baru as the gateway to Singapore by land transfer," said its chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy. In conjunction with the launch of the Johor Baru-Guangzhou flights, it is offering a promotional one-way fare of RM259 for economy class and from RM699 for business class.

Meanwhile, an ATR 600-72 will be deployed for the flights between Langkawi and Phuket. Malindo Air is offering a promotional fare from RM89 one-way. "In our continuous effort to promote Langkawi, we are hoping the connection between Langkawi and Phuket will attract tourists from Phuket to also visit Langkawi. As a result to both efforts, we are anticipating growth in tourist and passenger's arrival into Malaysia," said Chandran.

He noted the airline is constantly innovating and diversifying its products to suit passengers' needs. "The Johor Baru and Guangzhou route complements the network and opens more options to our passengers when planning their trip," Chandran added.

Sri Lanka to give free visas to tourists for 06 months from April, 2019

Sri Lanka will grant free visas to tourists from key markets like the United Kingdom, Europe and Asian Buddhist countries like Thailand for six months from 1 April 2019 to encourage visits during months when arrivals usually slump.

The government information office said in a statement the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the proposal by John Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development, Wild Life and Christian Religious Affairs this week.

Free visas will be given to tourists from Thailand, United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Canada, United States of America, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and countries of the European Union, it said.

The move aims to encourage visits during key Buddhist festivals like Vesak and Poson during this period.

Europe Visa for Malaysia

Malaysian citizen who plans to visit Europe will need to apply online for an ETIAS visa effective from the year 2021.

This new immigration process called the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) may become a mandatory requirement for citizens from visa-free countries.

According to etiaseurope.eu website, citizens from visa-free countries can stay in the Schengen Area (all EU states except Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and The United Kingdom) for a period up to 90 days.

“It is an immigration process used to address the potential threats of ineligible individuals before they can cross the borders of the EU states.

“ETIAS with the Entry–Exit System (EES) will speed up, facilitate, reinforce and modernise the border control procedures by offering better protection against document and identity fraud,” as quoted on the the website.

Each citizen from the visa-free countries need to hold a valid ETIAS prior to boarding.

“Once issued, a valid authorisation will allow its holder to stay in the Schengen Area for a period of up to 90 days in any 180-day period and it is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance or until the expiry date of the passport”

The application process is simple as it can be done online and it was recommended that applicants apply for an ETIAS at least 72 hours prior to departure.

“It only costs RM48.30 (10 Euros). Each individual travelling in a group needs to be authorised.

“However, applicants under the age of 18 do not have to pay the processing fee,”

Among the documentation requirements for this process includes a valid passport issued by a visa-exempt country, a valid credit card to pay the application fee, applicants contact information including the address of permanent residence, phone number and email address.

It also stated that once the application has been submitted online, it would be screened across various systems to determine whether an authorisation could be granted or not.

“If your application is approved, you will receive an authorisation directly by email and in case of denial, you will receive an email explaining the reason for refusal.”

Among the countries which requires ETIAS online authorisation include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City State.

Malaysians to be fined up to RM1,200 for lost or damaged passports

Effective on 02nd. January 2019, Malaysians who lose or damage their passports will be fined between RM300 and RM1200 for a replacement.

Malaysians who lose or damage their passport for the first time will be fined RM400. Meanwhile, children aged 12 and below, and students aged 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM300 if they lose or damage their passport for the first time.

Those who lose or damage their passport for the second time will be fined RM700, while children age 12 and below and students age 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM600.

For third replacement, Malaysians will be fined RM1200 while children age 12 and below and students below 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM1100.

Previously Malaysians who applied for a replacement passport after losing or damaging their passports were not penalised.

Whether you're taking a quick trip with your family or studying abroad for several months, it's easier to get sick when you're in a new place because your body hasn't had a chance to adjust to the food, water, and air in a new environment. Travelling can bring you in contact with things that your body isn't used to. Here are some tips on keeping your travel experience as healthy as possible.

Don't Take a Vacation From Health

The stress and excitement of travel can make you more likely to get sick, but if you follow a few simple tips, you're more likely to stay healthy throughout your trip — and your trip will definitely be more enjoyable. The good news is that as a teen, your immune system is as strong as an adult's, but lack of sleep and a poor diet can make it easier for you to become sick.

The first thing you should do if you're heading overseas is to find out what kinds of vaccinations you'll need in advance because different countries have different requirements. In Malaysia, contact your doctor or the Ministry of Health Malaysia for a list of necessary vaccinations. You'll want to allow plenty of time for this step in case you need to get vaccines that require more than one dose.

Common Travel Troubles

Three of the most common health problems that you may experience when travelling are jet lag, altitude sickness, and diarrhea. When you fly across time zones, the differing amounts of light can change your internal body clock, resulting in a condition known as jet lag. Jet lag may cause some symptoms that are bummers on a fun trip, including upset stomach, insomnia, and tiredness.

There are some things you can do to combat jet lag; for example, if you're traveling from west to east, you should stay out of the sun until the day after your arrival. If you're flying from east to west, go for a brisk walk as soon as possible after you arrive.

Altitude sickness is caused by dry air, a decrease in oxygen, and low barometric pressure when you travel to a higher altitude than you're used to. As a result, you may have problems, such as headaches, dehydration, and shortness of breath. Some people are affected at 5,000 feet (1,524 meters), but others aren't affected until they reach altitudes of 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) or more. Find out what altitude you're travelling to before you go to see if altitude sickness could be a problem. The best prevention for altitude sickness is to gradually increase your altitude every day to get used to it. If that isn't possible, a drug known as acetazolamide can help relieve and even prevent symptoms of altitude sickness. If you think that you might get altitude sickness, talk with your doctor before you leave home.

The topic of diarrhea may seem gross, but it can be a serious problem. Traveller's diarrhea, known as turista, often occurs when a foreign type of bacteria enters your digestive tract, usually when you eat contaminated food or water. The best way to prevent turista is to be very careful of the food you eat and the water you drink on the road.

Safe Eats and Drinks

So what foods are safe to eat? Any foods that have been boiled are generally safe, as well as fruits and vegetables that have to be peeled before eating. Avoid eating uncooked or undercooked meat or meat that is not cooked just prior to serving.

Stay away from foods that require a lot of handling before serving. Here's an example: Nine friends ate at a restaurant when on a school trip overseas; eight had diarrhea the next day. The one who didn't get sick was the only one who had ordered a dish that didn't need to be touched by human hands right before serving. One of your favorite foods at home is on the safe list on the road — pizza! or any cooked foods that are less likely to spoil than others, and the high heat of a pizza oven tends to kill any harmful bacteria in the food.

You've probably heard that you shouldn't drink the water in some countries overseas, but did you know why? Water supplies in many developing countries are not treated in the same way as water supplies in developed countries; various bacteria, viruses, and parasites are commonly found in the water. Many experts suggest you drink only bottled water when travelling. If you need to use tap water, you should boil it first or purify it with an iodine tablet. Even if you're brushing your teeth, rinsing contact lenses, drinking a small glass of water to wash down pills, or adding ice to your drink, first take precautions to ensure the water is safe.

You Can Take It With You

When you're packing, you'll want to include any medications and other medical supplies you use on a daily basis because they may be hard to find in another country if you run out. Even if you can find them, there's a good chance the formulations will be stronger or weaker than the ones you're used to. These may include any prescriptions you already take, such as inhalers, allergy medication, and insulin, as well as contact lens cleaners and vitamins.

Packing an over-the-counter pain medication like acetaminophen and diarrhea medication is also a good idea. And pack some OTC allergy medication even if you don't take it at home. People sometimes unexpectedly develop allergic reactions to the pollens and other allergens found in a new environment. Those with asthma or other allergies can unexpectedly react to these new substances.

Write It All Down

Even if you watch what you eat and drink and get enough rest while you're travelling, you might still get sick. The good news is that you'll probably be able to find competent medical care. The key is knowing where to go. Most travel guides suggest you go to a hospital where English is spoken or Western-trained doctors can be found. For this reason, it's wise to always carry a written copy of your medical history with you.
Having such important information available in one place can help health care workers make appropriate decisions, and you won't have to worry about forgetting important information at a time when you're likely to be upset and not thinking clearly.

Before you leave your home sweet home, create a medical history form that includes the following information:

your name, address, and home phone number as well as a parent's daytime phone number
your blood type
immunisations
your doctor's name, address, and office and emergency phone numbers
the name, address, and phone number of your health insurance carrier, including your policy number
a list of any ongoing health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, or AIDS
a list of current medications you are taking and pharmacy name and phone number
a list of allergies to medications, food, insects, and animals
a prescription for glasses or contact lenses
the name, address, and phone number of a relative other than your parent

It also helps if you have some basic emergency medical knowledge, not only for yourself but for helping others you may be travelling with. A great way to prepare for your trip is to take a first aid or basic life support course before you go; if you're travelling with a group, you should know where the first aid kit is and what's in it.

Basic Safety

It's easy to let your guard down when you travel. After all, you're more relaxed and there are so many new sights to focus on. In addition to paying attention to your personal safety (avoiding secluded places and not walking alone after dark), you'll need to reset your thinking when it comes to traffic safety, too. The rules of the road aren't the same overseas as they are at home. In some countries, people drive on the opposite side of the road and you'll need to be aware of this before you cross the street — look in the opposite direction from the one you're used to. Pedestrians don't always have the right of way overseas, either. Be sure there are no cars coming when you step into the street: If there are, they may not stop for you!

Practice these healthy hints and you can focus on the scenery — not medical emergencies — and return home with nothing more troubling than some tacky souvenirs!

Uzbekistan introduces a visa-free regime for citizens of seven countries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan -- Uzbekistan introduced a visa-free regime for 30 days from the date of entry into the country for citizens of seven countries and a simplified procedure for issuing tourist visas for citizens of 39 states.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On additional organizational measures to create favorable conditions for development of tourism potential of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

According to the decree, from 10 February 2018, citizens of Israel, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and Japan can visit Uzbekistan without visas for the period of 30 days.

The document underlined that members of the crews of aircrafts of foreign airlines, carrying out regular flights to Uzbekistan, also received the right to visit the country without obtaining visas.

From 1 February 2018, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev introduced a simplified procedure for issuing tourist visas for citizens of 39 countries. The list includes countries of the European Union, East Asia and the Middle East, as well as India, Canada, New Zealand and the United States.

Citizens of these country now should not submit tourist voucher or invitation letter from legal entity or individual to receive visa. Consular offices of Uzbekistan will issue visas for citizens of these countries within two working days, not counting the day of acceptation of documents.

At the same time, starting from 1 July 2018, a system of issuing electronic entry visas for citizens of several countries will be introduced.\

Park for free when picking up passengers at KLIA, KLIA2

SEPANG, Jan 12 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is providing free parking near the KL International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2 terminals for those picking up passengers to facilitate smooth flow of traffic at the airport area. Its managing director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, said most vehicles were found stopping by the road side near the Petronas fuel station to wait for the arrival of passengers before going to the KLIA2 and KLIA terminals to pick them up.

As a solution to this, he said, MAHB provided free parking at the side of the Long Term Car Park (LTCP) or 30 minutes free parking at the LTCP. “Even if the waiting time exceeds more than half-an-hour at LTCP, a reasonable parking charge of RM2.50 per hour will be imposed,” he told the media after attending a parade by MAHB Aviation Security Officers and Assistants (Auxiliary police) to mark the end of their basic training here today.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor, who was also present, said the police would no longer compromise with motorists who parked their vehicles by the road side since MAHB had provided the parking facility for them to wait.

PETALING JAYA: 30 November 2017

The passenger service charge (PSC) for international destinations beyond Asean at klia2 will be raised to RM73 from RM50 currently, effective Jan 1, 2018. The increase marks the completion of the gradual equalisation of PSC at klia2 with those of other airports in Malaysia, following the 2017 review performed by the Malaysian Aviation Commission’s (Mavcom).

All other PSC rates at klia2 and other airports remain unchanged. The revised PSC will be applicable to tickets issued from Jan 1, 2018. Tickets issued prior to this date will not be subjected to the new rate even if the date of travel takes place on or after Jan 1, 2018.

To recap, during Mavcom’s revision of the PSC in October 2016, only the PSC rate applicable at klia2 for international destinations beyond Asean was pegged lower than those at other airports in Malaysia. The PSC rate at klia2 for such destinations was set at RM50, while the rate set for other airports in Malaysia was RM73.

With the latest revision, the PSC rates now stand at RM11 for domestic destinations, RM35 for Asean destinations and RM73 for international destinations beyond Asean, across all airports in Malaysia.

Passengers flying out of Malaysia are set to face another burden as they will have to pay about RM35 once the government introduces the Advance Passenger Screening System (APSS). A source said the government may have to fork out close to RM8 billion over a period of 15 years to an outsourced private company involved in setting up the system.

"The plan is to have the company develop the hardware and software for the APSS and that passengers bear the cost. This plan makes no real sense as there are readily-available systems in the world, like the system being used in Australia, which only costs about A$80 million (RM250 million)."

The source said it is important that the company engaged is well-versed in the job, adding that as a prerequisite, companies involved in the exercise must have related experience. The source pointed out the screening system is aimed at protecting the country from undesirable elements such as terrorists and it is, therefore, a national security issue.

The costs for such systems linked to security is usually borne by the government, but some may charge a nominal fee of US$1 (RM4), the source added. "But this is not the case here, as airline passengers are being forced to pay for the security system." There is also the question of which party would collect the fee, as airport tax goes to Malaysia Airports Berhad and a RM1 levy is channelled to the Malaysian Aviation Commission.

The system will allow the Immigration Department to identify risks posed by passengers flying into the country as passenger information will be provided by the airlines. "They will be able to check whether a passenger is on the international terror watch-list, and deny entry to such individuals."

Such systems are already being widely used internationally and provides authorities with adequate time to determine the status of a passenger. For example, when a flight leaves Tokyo, the authorities here will have about seven hours to check the background of the passengers on the flight.

AirAsia moving to terminal 4 at Singapore Changi Airport

AirAsia moving to terminal 4 at Singapore Changi Airport AirAsia will relocate operations at Singapore Changi Airport from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 effective 7 November 2017.

All AirAsia flights scheduled for that day will arrive at and depart from Terminal 4. Departing and arriving flight schedules will not be affected by the move.

Guests departing from Terminal 4 are advised to arrive 3 hours before departure to ensure sufficient time to move through the new terminal, while those arriving in Terminal 4 are advised to inform their loved ones of the change.

Guests can reach the terminal via taxi, private hire cars, bus and personal transportation. Those using MRT services will need to head to Terminal 2 arrival hall and take the free shuttle bus service that will ferry guests to Terminal 4. The shuttle bus will be available every 10 minutes for 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

AirAsia Singapore CEO Logan Velaitham said the move to the new state-of-the-art, fully-automated Terminal 4 for all flights departing and arriving in Singapore is in line with AirAsia’s vision of becoming a digital airline.

“This year, the focus in Singapore is to embrace Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST). We collaborated with Changi Airport Group (CAG) to automate and innovate our check-in and airport experience. When you fly out of Changi with us, expect a fully automated service with FAST from door to gate, which integrates seamlessly into our own innovations on mobile and web,” he said.

He added: “Our ground staff have been upskilled into brand ambassadors for the airline, to assist guests with last-minute value-add services at check-in, such as buying travel insurance, inflight wifi or upgrading to Hot Seats.”

At Terminal 4, AirAsia will deploy 19 check-in kiosks, 14 auto bag drop machines, two document check counters and two payment counters at Row 4, with group check-in services available at Row 5.

Guests will be able to check-in at home via web and mobile, print their bag tags at our self-service kiosks and drop their bags at the auto bag drop machines when they come to the airport, or proceed directly to the gate if they have no check-in baggage.

A travel agent is vital in planning these special memories as they take the worry off of you and let you focus solely on the exciting events to come and what you shall pack,” said Jamie Mussolini, founder and president of Beachfronts Travel LLC in Westchester, NY.

They save you money…Travel professionals have access to special discount codes and promotions through suppliers. They often can save an additional amount or provide clients with a dining or spa credit that wouldn’t be available when booking through an OTA.

…and time.In a 2016 survey of more than 1,200 consumers, nearly one-third spent in excess of four hours, over multiple days, planning their own vacations. Travel advisors create a custom itinerary, pulling together flights, transfers, accommodation, tours, visits, meals and exclusive visits based on your preferences—so you can spend your time on other things.

RM1 levy when passengers departing Malaysia airports effective 2018

Passengers will be subjected to an MYR1.00 levy when departing Malaysian airports as early as 2018, the country's aviation regulator said on Tuesday, 15 August 2017

The new levy to be imposed by the Malaysia Aviation Commission, MAVCOM will be tabled in Parliament in October 2017. It will apply to all departing passengers for both domestic and international destinations except for rural air services in interior Sabah and Sarawak.

The passenger service charge at all Malaysian airports may also be raised from the current RM50.00 to RM73.00 for all international flights beyond Asean beginning January 2018 to standardize the system. Currently, a different rate applies to KLIA1 and KLIA2 international airports.

The passenger service charge is fixed at RM35.00 for all destinations in Asean.

MAVCOM, which was set up last year to regulate the civil aviation industry, is expected to collect RM30 million in the first year from the RM1.00 levy, according to its chief operating officer Azmir Zain.

MAVCOM, in tabling its first industry report on Tuesday, said it expects the air passenger traffic to grow between 7.8 and 8.6 per cent in 2017 with the number of air travelers expected to hit 99.6 million.

Revision in India e-Tourist Visa online application

The official website of Ministry of Home Affairs (India) have made some necessary changes and operative will take effect from 1st April 2017.

The highlights/instructions as per the revised guidelines for e-Visa are as follows:-

1. The e-Visa is now applicable for 163 countries (list given on the website)

2. e-Visa has 3 sub-categories i.e., e-Tourist visa, e-Business Visa and e-Medical visa. A foreigner will be permitted to club these categories.

3. Applicants of the eligible countries/territories may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival with a window of 120 days. Example: If you are applying on 1st Sept then applicant can select arrival date from 5th Sept to 2nd Jan

4. Recent front facing photograph with white background and photo page of Passport containing personal details like name, date of birth, nationality, expiry date etc. are to be uploaded mandatorily by the applicant. Additionally one more document depending upon the e-Visa type would also be required to be uploaded. The application is liable to be rejected if the uploaded documents and photograph are not clear / as per specification.

5. e-Visa fee is based on Country/Territory specified. Bank transaction charges of 2.5% will be charged additionally on applicable e-Visa fees. The fee must be paid at least 4 days before the expected date of travel otherwise application will not be processed. To know the fee applicable on your Country/Territory please visit the website.

6. e-Visa fee once submitted is non-refundable as the fee is for processing of the application and is not dependent on either Grant or Rejection of Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

7. Applicant should carry a copy of Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) along with him/her at the time of travel. Please confirm that your ETA status is shown as 'GRANTED' on this website prior to commencement of your journey. Applicants can track the status of their application online by clicking Visa Status

8. Biometric details of the applicant will be mandatorily captured at Immigration on arrival in India.

9. The validity of e-Visa will be 60 days from the date of arrival in India.

10. Double entry is permitted on e-Tourist Visa and e-Business Visa. Triple entry will be permitted on e-Medical Visa.

11. e-Visa is valid for entry through 24 designated Airports (i.e. Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum & Varanasi) and 3 designated seaports (i.e. Cochin, Goa, Mangalore). However, the foreigner can take exit from any of the authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India.

12. This facility is in addition to the existing Visa services.

13. e-Visa can be availed for maximum of two times in a calendar year i.e. between January to December.

14. e-Visa is non-extendable, non-convertible & not valid for visiting Protected/Restricted and Cantonment Areas. If you intend to visit Protected/Restricted/Cantonment areas, you would require prior permission from the Civil Authority.

15. Please be careful while making payment of the e-Visa fee. If the number of unsuccessful attempts is more than three (03), then the application id would be blocked and the applicant would be required to apply afresh by filling the application form again and regenerating a new application id.

16. The e-Visa fee payment status up-dation may take up to 4 hours due to technical reasons/network delays. Before re-applying, the applicants are requested to wait for 4 hours for payment status updating, after final submission of the application form and payment of the fee. In cases, where e-Visa fee has been deducted but status is not updated, the applicants are advised to verify their payment status by clicking on 'Verify Payment/Pay Visa Fee' tab or by clicking on the link Verify Payment.

Indonesia promotes spiritual tourism through world’s largest Buddhist temple

Indonesia has planned to develop spiritual tourism at the world’s largest Buddhist temple Borobudur in Java province, central Indonesia, with a view of promoting peace and bringing harmony across the world. A cultural introduction programme was held yesterday by Tidar Heritage Foundation (THF) in Magelang city, near Borobudur temple. It was attended by representatives of embassies, among others from China, Lebanon, Oman, the Philippines, Australia, Germany, Hungary, Mongolia and Croatia.

Spiritual tourism is expected to promote Magelang as an Indonesian spiritual destination, making it a substitute to Rome or Jerusalem. Constructed during the ancient Javanese kingdom era in the ninth century, Borobudur temple is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, and an attraction for boosting Indonesian tourism and economy.

The 2500 square meter temple is an attraction for foreign tourists who are eager to take pilgrimage trips and who are curious about ancient civilization.
