Obama meets Pope Francis in Vatican City

President Barack Obama held nearly an hour of private talks about the global situation with Pope Francis on Thursday and invited the pontiff to visit the White House.

Obama appeared at ease and joked with the pope during the parts of their first meeting that were open to reporters, at one saying he did not know how his wife and children "put up with me".

The president and his delegation, including Secretary of State John Kerry, walked past the frescoed halls of the Vatican's Apostolic Palace to the entrance of the Francis' private library.

There were no immediate details of what they discussed, but in the run up to the meeting, Obama had given an interview to an Italian newspaper praising the pope's commitment to addressing growing gaps between rich and poor.

"It is a great honor. I'm a great admirer," the president said as the pope greeted him and they sat at the pontiff's desk. "Thank you so much for receiving me."

Obama invited the pope to visit the White House as he was giving Francis a symbolic gift of seeds of fruit and vegetables from the garden of the presidential residence.

The White House said other seeds would be donated in the United States that will yield several tons of produce to a charity of Pope Francis' choosing.

The new iPhone app called Cloak, created by two advertising professionals, Chris Baker and Brian Moore, extracts location check-ins data from contacts' Foursquare and Instagram accounts to let users know about their whereabouts. The app will show individuals on the Cloak map in bubbles, anywhere from two miles to one block away, so you can give them a slip, or at least prepare yourself prior to the meet.

Users of the app will see the name and the location of a person by clicking on a bubble. The app also gives the time of when the person had checked in and if it was says two hours ago, the picture will fade away and completely disappear after four hours.
"We feel like we've reached the point of social fatigue -- too many networks with too much information, all the time," CNN quoted Baker as saying. "It's OK to turn off and pick up a copy of 'Walden' and just be alone."

Drunken car driver rushs on the crowd at Red River Street in downtown Austin, Texas, during South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) music and film festival killing two and injuring 23.

According to police, the man, driving a small Toyota car, went the wrong way down Ninth Street after evading a stop at a gas station around 12:30 a.m., turned onto Red River and drove for more than two blocks, striking numerous pedestrians before hitting a scooter traveling on 11th Street, killing the man and woman on board. The driver then struck a taxi, injuring two, and crashed into a parked van, Police Chief Art Acevedo said. "We do these events very well, but you cannot stop a person who rather than face drunk driving charges decides to speed at a high rate of speed, go around a uniformed officer forcing him to run out of the way, then at a high rate of speed show total disregard for the sanctity of human life,"

Julian Assange said the "intimate details" of the conflict were made public in an effort to reveal the truth about the conflict.
The "war logs" suggest evidence of torture was ignored, and detail the deaths of thousands of Iraqi civilians.
Iraq's PM said the release amounted to political interference in his country.

A statement from Nouri al-Maliki's office accused Wikileaks of trying to sabotage his bid to form a new government by stoking up anger "against national parties and leaders, especially against the prime minister".

Mr Maliki, a Shia, is struggling to keep his job after inconclusive general elections in March. His Sunni opponents say the Wikileaks documents highlight the need to establish a power-sharing government, rather than one in which all the power was in Mr Maliki's hands.

Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua, whose election marked the country's first peaceful transition of power from one civilian to another, has died following a debilitating illness that sparked a leadership crisis in Africa's most populous country. He was 58.
Yar'Adua had a long history of kidney ailments and recently suffered from an inflamed heart.

When you see some text prefixed by “Http://”, you automatically assume that what follows is a web address, as defined by the Hypertext Transfer Protocol. The question is, since most web addresses are easily recognizable anyway, do you really need it?

The developers of Google Chrome don’t think you do, so they simply chose to hide it in a developer version of Chrome.

The solution might not be that simple, though. You can hide the http:// bit from a web address, but it doesn’t mean it’s not really there, which makes this solution somewhat flawed. Worse, (as seen from the comments from the Chromium wiki thread, where this feature was actually reported as a bug) it might actually cause some problems in real-life usage.

Exposure to certain chemicals and pollutants before a woman reaches her mid-30s could treble her risk of developing breast cancer after the menopause, Canadian scientists said on Thursday.

In a study in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, a British Medical Journal title, the researchers found that women exposed to synthetic fibres and petrol products during the course of their work appeared to be most at risk.

"Occupational exposure to acrylic and nylon fibres, and to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons may increase the risk of developing postmenopausal breast cancer," they wrote.

But some experts commenting on the study expressed caution, saying such links can crop up by chance.

Sustained buying activity across the board pushed the indices to day’s highs. IT, realty and capital goods stocks led the upmove while profit booking was seen in FMCG and auto stocks. Traders tooks cues from the positive opening of European markets.
“We will watch the level of 5275/17640 as a major hurdle for the market and its failure to sustain, will result
into short-term weakness. On the other side, the level of 5235/16480 may act as a support for the day and dismissal of the same in the second half will certainly push the market towards the psychological support area of 5200/5180. Aggressive long traders can create few long positions in select stocks between 5200 and 5180 levels,” said Kotak Securities report.
At 1:10 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 17646.69, up 118.92 points or 0.68 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 17658.57 and low of 17555.04.
