By VIK JOLLY / THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

SANTA ANA – A Superior Court judge sentenced a man to 40 years and 8 months to life in state prison Friday for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old female relative on Christmas Eve while family members slept in other rooms, calling his conduct "depraved."

Jorge Miguel Gallegos, 38, of Santa Ana, was convicted in April of six felony counts, including sexual assault, lewd acts on a child under 14, and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.

. . . The victim's life is turned upside down and her family is destroyed by the assault, Judge Carla Singer told Gallegos at the sentencing. "The fact that you'd do this to a child is unbelievable," she said. "It was depraved."

At about 11 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2009, Gallegos took the victim into his kitchen, where he sexually assaulted the child after other family members had gone to sleep, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said.

His wife walked into the kitchen and witnessed the molestation, prosecutors said. Gallegos ripped the telephone from the wall and threatened his wife not to tell anyone, before fleeing the scene and going to a friend's house.

Gallegos' wife called 911 and Santa Ana police officers arrested the defendant in the early hours of Christmas Day. A subsequent investigation by detectives revealed a second unreported sexual assault when, between September and December 2009, Gallegos sexually assaulted the girl in his home, including the same conduct as on Christmas Eve, prosecutors said.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Birney told the court before sentencing "even among evildoers, Mr. Gallegos' conduct is extraordinary."

He violated the girl, who called him father, in "unspeakable ways," the prosecutor said. The conduct is "unimaginable; it's subhuman ... This is not a man who can be trusted around the rest of us."

Deputy Public Defender Charles Hasse told the judge he does not want to be dismissive of what Gallegos did or rationalize his behavior, but a 25 years to life sentence would be "more than ample." That's the sentence someone convicted of a first-degree murder would receive.

"The girl's alive and she's doing relatively well," Hasse said, adding he did not believe "she's doomed for the rest of her life." . . . Read More
Washington Times - Illegal immigrant students and members of the House sued the Senate this week to try to overturn the upper chamber's filibuster rule, arguing that the 60-vote supermajority requirement violates the Constitution and is blocking important legislation such as legalization for illegal immigrants.

If successful, the lawsuit, filed Monday, would rewrite the way the Senate operates — though courts generally have been reluctant to meddle in internal congressional rules.

Still, the effort mixes two thorny issues in separation of powers and immigration, and is likely to keep the Dream Act at the forefront of the national debate. The bill would legalize illegal immigrant students and young adults who were brought to the U.S. as children and who are seen as among the toughest cases in the immigration debate. Read More
We have laws regarding how to enter this country, yet they are ignored. People who violate the law should face consequences, but more often than not, we see efforts being made to reward illegal behavior. This one takes the cake: Barack Obama's illegal alien uncle has now been granted a driver's license in Massachusetts.

The Boston Herald is reporting something that seems impossible to believe. Barack Obama's uncle, Onyango Obama, who has faced deportation orders for 20 years, can now drive wherever he wants to go, and he can do it legally.

"It defies common sense. I can't comprehend how the president's uncle can have his license reinstated while we're all quite aware of ... his immigration status," said Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis, one of several lawmen who fought to bring the federal Secure Communities program to Massachusetts so immigration authorities will be notified every time an illegal alien is arrested.

"And I know I'm not alone," Evangelidis said. "This whole thing is preposterous. But unfortunately, it's not funny anymore."
It turns out that what's actually going on is that Onyango Obama is getting his license returned to him. As reported on My Fox DC, the license had been suspended for 45 days due to a drunk driving conviction. Thus, he had a license. Lost it. And now has it back. All while being an illegal alien facing deportation orders.

What a country! Why do the rest of us have to follow laws? Why even have laws any more? If he is facing deportation, then deport him!

It's pretty obvious that authorities know where to find him. Once they do, they should furnish him with a one-way ticket out. Laws are made to be followed, and that applies to illegal aliens too.

The proposal would require companies having contracts with the state worth more than $50,000 to submit a notarized statement saying they use E-Verify to check the status of new employees. . . . E-verify was authorized by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). . . . The debates and fate of proposals in Kansas aimed at coming down hard on undocumented immigrants are significant because the Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, has been a key force behind the drafting of many of the immigration enforcement laws in states such as Arizona and Alabama. . . . (Source: www.TheSocialContract.com) That includes breakfasts and lunches for their children. It includes English as a Second Language. It includes free education from K-12. It means free and unlimited medical care paid for by your wallet. It means you pay for insurance rates by unlicensed drivers and the list grows.

According to the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles, an average of 57,000 cars are stolen annually. It is now the car-jacking capital of the world. Most are SUV’s and pickup trucks. At a conservative average of $20,000.00 per vehicle, owner losses exceeded $1.1 billion. Insurance companies in the state suffered incredible claims from policyholders.

Where did those vehicles go? Who stole them? Take a guess. Arizona is the home of 1,000,000 illegal aliens. Hopefully the Supreme Court supported S.B. 1070 to rid the state of alien migrants. They cost Arizona taxpayers over $1 billion annually in services for schools, medical care, welfare anchor babies, loss of tax base and prisons. Illegals use those vehicles for smuggling more people and drugs from around the world into our country. When the vehicles are recovered, they are smashed-up wrecks in the desert. If not found, they have new owners south of the border as thieves drive the cars through the desert and into Mexico as easily as you drive your kids to soccer practice.

The chilling costs of illegal migration reach like an octopus into every aspect of our lives. Illegal aliens displaced American workers at a cost in excess of $133 billion dollars according to Harvard Professor George Borjas. College and high school kids cannot find a summer job in yard care, landscape, fast food or service jobs. Why? Illegal aliens work them at a third the wage and often, under the table. Not only do your kids not have jobs; you’re paying taxes for illegal aliens who are not paying taxes.

Annually, 75 percent of drugs arrive from Mexico at a net cost of $75 billion hard currency that leaves our country for good. In addition, our tax dollars pay $80 billion for the War on Drugs each year. It is a war that hasn’t been won in the past 41 years and drugs are as available today to your teenager as they were in 1970.

When an alien criminal gets caught for rape, murder or drug distribution, you pay $1.6 billion annually in prison costs to house, feed and clothe those filling 29 percent of our federal and state prisons—not to mention TV, movies, weight rooms and other entertainment—they enjoy while being incarcerated.

How about illegal alien anchor babies? Over 350,000 women annually arrive pregnant and drop them on U.S. soil. You pay food, housing, medical and schooling for them to age 18 plus their mother. According to the Center for Immigration Studies,(www.cis.org) average annual cost per child K-12 is $7,161.00 and exceeds $109 billion annually per cycle of anchor babies. That’s your money given out to 350,000 moms and their kids annually and all they did was get pregnant and birth that child on U.S. soil.

If you haven’t had a heart attack by now, you’ll need Tums after this figure. The average head of household illegal alien costs you $2,700.00 in welfare money over and above any taxes he or she pays in their meager paying jobs. With 15 to 20 million illegal aliens in the USA, that figures exceeds $20 billion of your tax dollars. (Source: Center for Immigration Studies)

How about the $56 billion in pure cash illegal migrants sent to their home countries last year and every year? That’s after their kids enjoyed free education, free lunches and free medical care paid for by you. Mexico receives $24 billion annually from its worker drones.

The lifetime net fiscal drain—taxes paid minus services used—for an adult immigrant is $55,200.00 according to Carrying Capacity Network. Who makes that money up? You do! Your work! Your taxes!

With a minimum of 15 million illegal aliens in our country, these figures are the tip of the iceberg. Average bilingual education is $1,200.00 per illegal alien student. Get this! We educate 3.1 million illegal alien children each year. Do the math! Ready for another anvil dropped on your toe fact? You pay $27 billion to provide forms, ballots, interpreters and brochures for languages annually.

An estimated one-third to one-half illegal aliens work off the books. It costs $200 million to provide for emergency health care for illegal aliens in the Border States annually. California with over three million illegals paid $79 million, BUT four of their major LA hospitals bankrupted and shut their doors in 2004. Texas with 1.5 million illegal aliens paid $74 million in hospital care. Who is Texas? You, the taxpayer, that’s who! Because you, in your state, pay commensurate medical care according to your illegal alien population. Georgia ran a $63 million deficit for 64,000 unpaid doctor visits to their Grady Health Care system in 2002. In the same year, Georgia taxpayers paid $27 million for 11,188 anchor baby hospital births. Georgia taxpayers paid a whopping $242 million for educating illegal alien kids in 2003. What is it in your state?

What are the consequences? One in two adult African-Americans in New York is unemployed. African-American children’s poverty grew by 50 percent since 1999. Why? Their dads can’t find work.

It costs you, the taxpayer, $68 billion a year JUST to pay for the resettlement of legal immigrants.

Fellow Americans, we are $15 trillion in debt as of June 2012. This year’s budget deficit exceeds $1 trillion under Obama. Our trade deficit stands at $700 billion. Our consumer debt exceeds $2 trillion and our average credit card carries a $9,644.00 balance. (Source: Brian Williams, NBC) Our U.S. government borrows $1.6 billion daily from foreign banks, just to stay afloat. Have you ever heard of the Titanic? We are taking on heavy immigration numbers while we’re being financially bled to death. Are we in trouble or what?

Who brings this fiscal nightmare into America? Take a guess. The majority of your Congress! President Barack Obama!

You can count on your corporations devouring cheap labor as they send you to the unemployment lines. Additionally, they pay PAC groups to keep senators and congressmen in their back pocket. How do I know? Virtually zero companies in 2011 were taken to court for hiring illegal aliens. None went to jail. However, it’s a $10,000.00 fine per illegal alien hired and up to five years in prison. You would think that would deter corporations. Not when they’ve bought off enforcement!

Who else figures in this grand scheme? Your governors and mayors who provide sanctuary laws for illegal aliens!

As a final note, if you’re as sick of this nation-destroying dilemma as I am, join 1.1 million Americans at www.NumbersUSA.org. It’s called a ‘consciousness shift’ and it’s going to take every one of us. That means everything you do, COUNTS!
Carter, Washington Examiner: . . . [F]ederal law enforcement agents on the border are skeptical that the illegal immigrant tide is slowing. And new information from the U.S. financial sector shows that more money is flowing from American cities to Mexico in the form of remittances from immigrants than last year. . . . security is being compromised as the government seeks to keep a lid on the border as a campaign issue during the presidential election cycle. Department of Homeland Security’s Border Patrol agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are being told not to make arrests of noncriminal illegal immigrants, and not to patrol areas of high traffic along the roughly 2,000-mile Southwest border.

A Border Patrol official working along the Texas border said administration officials are deliberately failing to document what is actually happening on the border. “In many cases my supervisors make it clear that they don’t want increased apprehension numbers, which means no arrests,” he said.

The government is also failing to patrol hundreds of miles of federal wildlife reserves that fall under the jurisdiction of the Interior Department. That has given smugglers and illegal immigrants a clear corridor to enter the county and has skewed national arrest figures, an official said. The U.S. is allowing “drug and human smugglers in without a fight” in parts of the Southwest, he said.

. . . Border Patrol agents are being hampered by numerous restrictions. “For every illegal crosser who is arrested, two get away,” Bonner said. Bonner said the Pew report, which uses statistics provided by DHS, is “surprising, considering remittances to Mexico are up despite a bad economy.”

Maria, an illegal immigrant who spoke with The Examiner on condition that her last name not be used, said few, if any, of her Baltimore neighbors in a community consisting largely of illegal immigrants have fled back to their homeland.

Statistics from the Bank of Mexico, that country’s largest bank, showed that remittances totaled $3.29 billion in January and February, up 7.9 percent over the same period last year. Remittances to Mexico are on a pace to total about $19.7 billion this year, according to the recent reports.

An ICE official who spoke on background said, “The guys in my office were laughing when we heard the Pew report and when we see DHS flat-out lie. We are in a constant battle with higher-ups to do our job. The problem is if we did it right, the numbers wouldn’t add up” — that is, they wouldn’t support the administration’s desire to keep the immigration issue off voters’ minds in 2012, he said.

But administration officials argue that current studies suggesting illegal immigration has dropped are a sign that efforts to secure the border are working. President Obama said he hopes immigration reform will soon be a reality if he is re-elected. In an interview last month with Spanish-language television channel Univision during his trip to Cartagena, Colombia, Obama said immigration reform will be a top priority early in his second term but warned that in order for it to pass “what we need is a change either of Congress or we need Republicans to change their mind.”

Chris Crane, president of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, said the administration is attempting to change everyone’s mind by cherry-picking data to boost ICE deportations and keep border numbers low.

ICE officers are often ordered not to make arrests of noncriminal aliens and “supervisors have been ordered not to put anything in writing,” said Crane, who testified to this before the Senate Judiciary Committee and whose union represents roughly 5,500 ICE officers.

. . . ICE is tasked by Congress with removing 400,000 people a year. As of May 5, ICE has already removed 229,664 people, of which 118,430 were convicted criminal aliens, he said. “Realistically we don’t have the resources to remove 11 million aliens, but our priorities are to remove criminal aliens, immigration fugitives, illegal re-entrants and recent border crossers,” . . . [Read Full Story]
However, these two sisters did not prove to be the easy marks this assailant may have hoped to find. They got into their car, and Solorzano-Vasquez was hiding in the backseat. He then began to slash at them with a knife, according to police. Sgt. Robert Miktus, of the Hamilton Township Police Department told CBS Philly: “He’s reaching toward the front seat with the knife towards the women. The driver, who’s 94 years old, threw her arm back to block him, to block the knife. [In the] meantime, the other sister, the 92-year-old in the passenger seat, jumped from the car, waved her arms and started screaming, attracting attention.” Result: illegal alien Solorzano-Vasquez in jail charged with robbery/carjacking, aggravated assault, and weapons possession. Side comment: Game over: Senior Saints win - illegal loses!

• 49% had previously been convicted of a felony, 20% of a drug offense; 18% a violent offense, and 11%, other felony offenses.
• 81% of the arrests occurred after 1990
• 56% of those charged with a reentry offense had previously been convicted on at least 5 prior occasions.
• Defendants charged with unlawful reentry had the most extensive criminal histories. 90% had been previously arrested. Of those with a prior arrest, 50% had been arrested for violent or drug-related felonies.

“Note the last two points – the perpetrators were once “previously deported.” Regardless, ALL those crimes would have never happened, i.e. were preventable, with serious deportation of the illegal aliens already here and proper border security to prevent both entry and re-entry.

The Justice Department does not track crimes by nationality so NOBODY actually knows how much crime is being committed by foreign nationals, a.k.a. illegal aliens. While we can make a reasonable assumption that there are more illegal alien criminals who are not in jail as there are in jail, as partially indicated by the 400,000 outstanding deportation orders, we simply do not know how much crime they are committing. . . .GAO report noted, we do know that about 27% of the incarcerated prisoners in federal jails are foreign nationals and that they did commit a lot of crime. This means that incarcerated illegal aliens are disproportionately responsible for more crime than their representation in the population. It is therefore not unreasonable to assume that illegal aliens are also responsible for about the same proportion of the ongoing crime as well. While the actual number probably lies somewhere between the two estimates, nobody knows because nobody is tracking it.” Side comment: 100% Preventable if the Gov't got off their backsides and protected both our borders and Americans.
The pilot program, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, offers preventive and primary care to low-wage, uninsured workers in the restaurant industry. Legal immigrants and other restaurant workers who don't meet the criteria or cannot afford coverage under the healthcare law are also eligible. About 75,000 restaurant workers in Los Angeles don't have access to insurance because of their immigration status, Mariana Huerta of the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Los Angeles, or ROC-LA, said Wednesday. Side comment: Illegals working illegally! California and other states have high unemployment. Based on the quoted figures, up to 75,000 jobs would be created if the illegals were removed and deported. Institute E-Verify and the need ceases to provide alternative health care to these illegals (people) workers. Lunacy reigns in LA.

Members of LUC, Illinois People’s Action and several other groups criticized the policy of the McLean County jail to contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for all individuals born outside the U.S. as a means to verify identification. . . . The wife of an illegal immigrant told the crowd that her husband was held by ICE after a traffic stop and sent to Chicago, a trip that resulted in stress on the family, a $180 bond and $176 in impound fees for his vehicle. “This incident has disrupted all our lives,” said the speaker. . . .

Sheriff Mike Emery cited data Tuesday that he argues support the need to verify identification and criminal histories. Of the 118 individuals held on ICE detainer orders issued from July 2011 to April 2012, 61 percent had multiple aliases and 58 percent had prior arrests in McLean County, according to the data. . . . From July 2011 to April 2012, the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued detainers or federal holds for 118 individuals in the McLean County jail . . .
John Kitzhaber announced in a letter to May Day demonstrators Tuesday. . . . Illegal immigrants will still be unable to get a driver's license, but people who drive without one are generally cited and released. State officials say the ability to accept and verify Matricula Consular cards will help officers verify identities faster.
Fox News guest: ‘Illegals’ can go home if they don’t like the slur - . . . The Daily Caller’s Michelle Fields told Fox News host Sean Hannity that liberals were trying to “demonize” conservatives in the Colorlines campaign to “Drop the I-Word.”

“I’m not stopping it,” Hannity insisted. “Illegal immigrant! Illegal!”

“People that enter into the country illegally are illegal,” Fields remarked. “OK, that’s not a racial slur. That’s not racist. This is simply just liberals trying so hard to change the subject, to distract voters from Obama’s failed policies.”

“I think it’s a racial slur, to be sure,” left-leaning Fox News contributor Bob Beckel replied. “It’s hate speech, which you right-wingers are pretty good at.”

“So, you think I’m a racist?” Hannity wondered.

“I just think that in and of itself it is a racist word,” Beckel replied.

“If illegals are so upset about the term ‘illegal,’ why don’t they return to their country, apply for a visa and then come back legally,” Fields advised. “And then we won’t call them illegals.” . . . .

ACLU condemns SC immigration law - Columbia (WACH) - The American Civil Liberties Union criticized South Carolina’s anti-illegal immigration bill Tuesday during stops in Columbia and Charleston. Governor Haley signed the bill late last year, it requires businesses to verify potential employees' immigration status before hiring them and instructs local police to call federal immigration officials if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.

Critics say the law encourages racial profiling. The US Supreme Court is reviewing a similar law in Arizona, and court’s decision could have ramifications in the Palmetto State. . . .
Enrique Alvaraez-Soria: Had 14 Gallons of Liquid Meth in Truck's Fuel Tank - Enrique Alvaraez-Soria, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, . . , 41, entered a guilty plea in Houston to transporting liquid meth from Mexico in one of a Ford F-250's two fuel tanks.

In October DEA agents got a tip that such a vehicle would be carrying the drug across the border. Agents intercepted it, then took over the delivery duties to a farm in Montgomery County. "On Oct. 28, 2011, agents observed Alvarez-Soria arrive at the ranch, remove some red colored gas cans from the vehicle he was driving and siphon the liquid methamphetamine from the front fuel tank of the Ford F-250 and into the red gas cans," the U.S. Attorney's Office says. "Subsequently, officers stopped him and discovered the liquid methamphetamine and suspected acetone, mixing trays, buckets and a pump which are used to separate the methamphetamine from the liquid."

Total haul: About 14 gallons of the stuff. He also pleaded guilty to delivering four kilos of 82-percent pure meth to a DPS undercover agent in August. He faces ten years to life, with sentencing set for August 30.
by Elise Foley, Huff Post: WASHINGTON -- The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) continued its fight against Alabama immigration law HB 56 on Monday by filing a complaint with the Mexican Department of Labor, calling the law discriminatory and in violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The complaint is the latest in a series of efforts by the labor union against HB 56, which would allow many of the state's government employees, including police officers and school officials, to inquire about immigration status. Groups opposing the law have targeted businesses, asking them to call for repeal of the law because it could hurt their interests.

SEIU coupled with the Mexican National Association of Democratic Lawyers in issuing the complaint, which says HB 56 violates NAFTA's North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation. The law "contradicts key provisions of the [North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation] and has devastating consequences for migrant and immigrant workers in Alabama, as well as for all workers in the state," the group wrote in its complaint. . . .

The SEIU is part of a coalition -- along with the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the United Auto Workers and the Southern Poverty Law Center -- that hopes to bring more businesses to the anti-HB 56 movement. The coalition is working to pressure foreign automobile manufacturers Hyundai, Honda and Daimler Automotive to publicly condemn the law. All three have plants in the state and could have an impact on Republican politicians who want to maintain good relations with business, the groups say. . . . Full Article

Rep. Elton Gallegly

By U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA): Illegal immigrant workers not only take jobs from American workers, they also damage the future of millions of American children through fraud and identity theft.

It’s an issue that will not go away if our southern border is sealed or Mexican citizens decide the United States is no longer a desirable destination, as a recent Pew Hispanic Center study suggests. Forty percent of illegal immigrants are visa overstays who come from around the world. That percentage will only rise if the recent Pew Hispanic Center study is correct. Illegal immigrants need fraudulent documents to obtain employment no matter where they come from.

Children are particularly susceptible to identity theft.

“The use of fraudulent documents for employment authorization and child identity theft go hand-in-hand because adults can use children’s Social Security numbers for years without being detected,” Ronald Mortensen, a fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, testified at a congressional hearing I chaired this month. “Document fraud, therefore, is not a victimless crime and the children whose Social Security numbers are used for employment purposes suffer very real and serious harm.”

Jennifer Andrushko’s 3-year-old son is one of those victims. His identity was taken by an illegal immigrant, who then used it to fraudulently obtain work and run up unpaid medical bills. “I cannot express how ridiculous it is that my son’s Social Security number has been used for care at an OB/GYN’s office or how frightening it is to know that my son’s medical history has been blatantly corrupted, which could have serious, life-threatening impacts on my son’s life and medical care,” Andrushko said in her testimony.

When Andrushko’s son was born, the Social Security Administration issued him a Social Security number that had already been used for years by an illegal immigrant. His credit, his medical history, his work history and his potential for being denied future benefits were immediately corrupted.

The illegal immigrant who created the fake Social Security number was arrested and placed on an immigration hold and yet released – twice. She runs free while the Andrushko boy’s Social Security number is tied to a criminal record.

Andrushko is not an isolated case. The SSA Actuary estimates that 75 percent of illegal immigrants obtain and use a fraudulent Social Security number.

The millions of victims include:

· A 9-year-old boy who was denied Medicaid because wages were reported on his Social Security number.

· A 13-year-old girl who was denied as a dependent on her family’s tax return because she supposedly made too much money.

· An 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl whose Social Security numbers are being used by multiple people for work authorization.

A Carnegie Mellon CyLab survey discovered that children are 51 times more likely to be victims of identity theft than adults, Mortensen noted. “Children’s Social Security numbers are especially valuable for employment purposes. Children do not use their Social Security numbers for employment, credit or other purposes, thus the illegal use of their Social Security numbers can go unnoticed for many years,” he said.

The SSA is no help to victims of Social Security fraud. Neither are the IRS or the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The Andrushko family has been battling to clear their son’s history since 2009, with no end in sight.

“Words cannot adequately express the hurt, anger, frustration and betrayal that we have felt in battling this,” Mrs. Andrushko said.

Members of Congress are working on ways to help the Andrushko family and others who have already become victims. We also need to find ways to keep other children from falling victim to identity theft.

One quick and easy way is to make E-Verify mandatory. E-Verify is an easy-to-use, accurate, computer-based employee verification system that ensures employees have a legal right to work in the United States. Nearly 360,000 American employers voluntarily use E-Verify and more than 2,700 new businesses sign up every week. It matches a person’s name, Social Security number and date of birth against Homeland Security Department and SSA databases. If the three fail to match, the person is denied employment.

As Mortensen noted: “E-Verify can help dramatically reduce job-related, child identity theft because an employer using the system in good faith cannot legally enter a child’s date of birth when the employee is obviously an adult.”

E-Verify would open millions of jobs for American workers and protect millions of children from identity theft. It helps solve two major problems facing American families today. The time to make it mandatory is now.
By Scott Rasmussen, GOPUSA: . . . That's why, among voters who are angry about the immigration issue, 83 percent are angry at the federal government rather than the illegal immigrants themselves. It's also why two-thirds of voters think those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants are a bigger problem than the people they employ. Simply put, most Americans are angry at those who would entice others to break the law. They're not angry at people who are willing to work hard to provide for their families.

It's a little bit like the public desire to go after drug pushers rather than occasional users of illegal drugs.

Still, there's another reason for the disconnect between official Washington and the American people on immigration.

In Washington, the entire focus of the immigration debate is on how to deal with those already living here illegally. For voters, this is a secondary concern. The bigger concern is how to secure the border so future immigrants enter the county according to the rules. Routinely, in surveys for years, 60 percent or more of voters say securing the borders is a higher priority than legalizing the status of the illegal immigrants who are here now.

Once voters are convinced that illegal immigration is a thing of the past, it will be easier to address the status of those in the country already.

But voters don't believe the federal government has any interest in securing the border. In fact, most believe the policies of the federal government are designed to encourage illegal immigration. This offends voters who want to respect the rule of law. If immigration laws -- or any laws -- are routinely ignored, then the government loses credibility.

If the laws are enforced, 61 percent of voters favor a welcoming policy that lets anybody come to America except national security threats, criminals and those who would live off the U.S. welfare system. All who would like to work hard and pursue the American Dream are welcome. . . .

by FAIR Gov't Relations Team: One of the newest trends illegal aliens are embracing as a means to escape deportation might surprise you: they’re going public.

This brazenness is thanks to the Obama Administration’s issuance of prosecutorial discretion guidelines, which direct DHS agents to ignore illegal aliens so long as they are not convicted of crimes the Administration deems serious. (See FAIR’s Morton Memos Summary, Jan. 2012)

This mandated “discretion” sends a clear message to illegal aliens that it’s okay to break the law. The amount of confidence bestowed by President Obama’s administrative amnesty policies has been enough to encourage illegal aliens to come out of hiding, stage their own rallies, and even challenge immigration authorities directly.

Here is a sampling of these “coming out” stories:
• In February, José Luis Zelaya, a graduate student at Texas A&M University, gained attention by running for the highly publicized position of Student Body President, integrating his illegal status into his campaign platform. (Fox News Latino, Feb. 29, 2012)

• Daniela Palaez of Florida gained nationwide attention in March when she was named her high school’s 2012 valedictorian. Palaez, who was brought to the U.S. as a young child, was facing imminent deportation until her story went viral and Florida Reps. Illeana Ros-Lehtinen and David Rivera, as well as Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson, made public appeals on her behalf. Within four days, ICE granted Palaez a two-year deferment of deportation, citing prosecutorial discretion. (FOX Phoenix, March 2, 2012; see also CBS Miami, March 6, 2012)

• In mid-April, Florida State University Law School graduate and tourist visa overstayer Jose Godinez-Samperio was spotlighted by the media when he petitioned for admission to the Florida Bar Association. The Florida Board of Bar Examiners is now requesting decision assistance from the Supreme Court, which marked the case “high profile.” (Chicago Tribune, April 16, 2012; see also Orlando Sentinel, April 15, 2012)

• Mohammed Abdollahi, an illegal alien residing in Michigan, brazenly explained that “the more public [illegal aliens] are with our stories, the safer we are.” (USA Today, March 12, 2012) Abdohalli, fearing he would be deported after years of living in the country illegally, got himself arrested and publicly pled his case. Sure enough, his lawyer was notified by an immigration official that Abdohalli would not be pursued for deportation. (Id.) Abdollahi now works for the National Immigrant Youth Alliance (NIYA).

• Most recently, Dulce Matuz, an illegal alien and graduate of Arizona State University, was granted a coveted spot on TIME Magazine’s 2012 list of the Top 100 Influential People in the World. Matuz, who is the founder of the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition, is working hard to reach Latino voters in Arizona with her belief that illegal immigrants deserve a pathway to citizenship. (WCVB-Boston, April 20, 2012; see also TIME Magazine, April 18, 2012)

So many illegal aliens feel comfortable going public under this Administration that they’ve even created their own day of recognition. National Coming Out of the Shadows Day was first hosted in 2010 by the Immigrant Youth Justice League (IYJL). The group’s Facebook page proudly notes that their event spurred “actions of civil disobedience” in a multitude of states. (See IYJL Facebook Page; see also Business Week, April 16, 2012) One such action took place in Philadelphia, where two illegal alien students challenged immigration officers by entering an ICE field office and declaring their illegal status. They were arrested for blocking a street and ICE initially filed detainers on the two students, but eventually released them without consequence. (Bi-College News, March 20, 2012)

While some illegal aliens choose to “remain in the shadows,” a growing number continue to flaunt their status as if their unlawful presence alone merits citizenship, and suddenly a different descriptor comes to mind: entitled.

The rise in confrontational tactics by illegal aliens provides clear confirmation that President Obama’s administrative amnesty measures are serving as positive reinforcement to the illegal community, cementing the idea that illegal aliens deserve citizenship simply due to their presence.
United States, which ran for an additional twenty minutes beyond the scheduled hour. According to Tom’s <a href="http://www.scotusblog.com/2012/04/arizona-first-argument-report/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">first report, most of the argument was focused on Section 2(b) of S.B. 1070, which requires law enforcement officials to verify the immigration status of anyone stopped or arrested when they have “reasonable suspicion” that that person is in the U.S. illegally. In the news coverage of the argument, there was a general agreement that the Court seemed likely to uphold Section 2(B), although it was less clear how the Court might rule on the other provisions at issue. Reporting and analysis on the argument are available from Lyle Denniston at <a href="http://www.scotusblog.com/2012/04/argument-recap-a-choice-between-radical-and-reasonable/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this blog, Greg Stohr of <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-25/arizona-illegal-immigrant-crackdown-gets-support-at-top-court.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bloomberg News, the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/26/us/considering-arizona-immigration-law-justices-are-again-in-political-storm.html?hp"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">New York Times, the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-supreme-court-skeptical-of-striking-down-arizona-immigration-law-20120425,0,710201.story"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Los Angeles Times, the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/arizona-immigration-law-supreme-court-seems-receptive-to-parts-of-crackdown/2012/04/25/gIQAcp23gT_story.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Washington Post, the Associated Press (via the <a href="http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2018065942_apussupremecourtimmigration.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Seattle Times), <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/25/us-usa-immigration-arizona-idUSBRE83O09N20120425?feedType=RSS&feedName=everything&virtualBrandChannel=11563"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Reuters, <a href="http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2012/04/25/146689/many-questions-as-supreme-court.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">McClatchy, <a href="http://edition.cnn.com/2012/04/25/justice/scotus-arizona-law/?hpt=us_c2"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">CNN, <a href="http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/25/11388195-supreme-court-signals-its-ok-with-parts-of-arizonas-immigration-law?lite"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">MSNBC, <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/04/25/arizona-immigration-law-battle-arrives-at-supreme-court/?test=latestnews"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Fox News, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/25/sb-1070-supreme-court-arizona-immigration-law_n_1451622.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Huffington Post, <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0412/75597.html"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Politico, <a href="http://lawyersusaonline.com/dcdicta/2012/04/25/arizona-immigration-law-case-could-end-in-a-tie/"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DC Dicta, and the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303592404577364704105800924.html?KEYWORDS=JESS+BRAVIN"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wall Street Journal (subscription required). <a href="http://www.policymic.com/debates/7488/arizona-immigration-a-state-cannot-have-its-own-immigration-policy/headline_story"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">PolicyMic is hosting a debate on the constitutionality of S.B. 1070 featuring several guest contributors.

Kathleen Ann Roberson, 21, inked a plea agreement with federal prosecutors Friday that could subject her to up to 250 years in prison and a fine of more than $6 million, according to court records.

The deal shines new light on a February traffic stop in the Tampa area that led to the arrests of Roberson, her 29-year-old neighbor, Jessica Roland, and five Mexican nationals who had crossed the border in Arizona en route to Immokalee, Fla.. The new court filings show the scheme was larger than previously known, and that an investigation by the U.S. Border Patrol linked Roberson to an unnamed "alien smuggling organization" in Arizona. . . . Read More
By Elizabeth Llorente, Fox News Latino: - Marco Rubio says he wants his version of the DREAM Act in effect by fall, just in time for undocumented
students to be able to attend college fall semester.

Rubio, in two separate events in Washington D.C., said his plan is
still being hammered out, and important details – such as the minimum
and maximum age of those who would qualify – were yet to be determined.

“We’re involving the DREAMers” in the drafting of the measure, he
said, using the term that refers to undocumented youth brought to the
country by their parents. “We’re involving the kids themselves.”

Asked by a reporter when it will be introduced in the Senate, Rubio said: “When it’s ready. It won’t be next week.” He said he hopes it gets introduced by summer and passed by fall.

“There are a bunch of kids. . .who want to go to school this fall,” Rubio said at an appearance at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.. “I’m also cognizant that this is an election year,” he added, saying it
wouldn’t be easy to get bi-partisan support as the parties vie for elective offices.

Indeed, several Democrats in Congress say they will not back a plan that does not offer a path to citizenship. Charles A. González, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said in a press statement: "If the Rubio Plan bars citizenship it would be the first time in modern history that someone has proposed a law that would permanently prohibit citizenship to one segment of American society." . . .

The senator said that critics who dismiss his plan before it is even finalized are just interested in keeping the inability of undocumented youth to attend college "a political wedge issue," and are not really serious about finding a bipartisan solution.

"The general concept is that [students] would receive the equivalent of a non-immigrant visa, it legitimizes you," he said of his alternate DREAM Act proposal. "It doesn't allow you to to become a resident or citizen, however it doesn't prohibit you from applying." . . .

If they want to stay in the United States, they would have to apply like everyone else around the world, he said, and wait their turn, possibly back in their homeland. Rubio's plan also would not call on
states to charge in-state tuition rates to undocumented students -- now many of them are charged out-of-state tuition, which can be twice as high -- nor would it give them access to financial aid.

“We want to make sure we don’t do anything that rewards illegal immigration,” he said. . . .

During GOP primary debates, Romney flatly said that as president, he would veto the DREAM Act that has been proposed in Congress. But Rubio said Romney has indicated that he would be open to considering a conservative alternative such as the one the Florida senator is developing.

Shortly after Rubio concluded his meeting with reporters, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and undocumented students – or “DREAMers,” as they’re called -- announced the launch of a voting campaign called “Su Voz, Mi Voto,” or “Their Voice, My Vote.” . . .

Rubio long had said he opposes the DREAM Act, because it would generate chain migration – where immigrants who have a green card or are naturalized citizens can then petition for family members overseas to gain legal permanent residency in the United States. . . . Read more

Bar?

USA Today has a story about the Florida Board of Bar Examiners is asking the state Supreme Court to determine whether it can admit someone who is NOT in the country legally, the Sun Sentinel reports.

The issue involves aspiring lawyer Jose Godinez-Samperio, 25, a Tampa-area resident and native of Mexico who entered the United States with his parents 16 years ago on a tourist visa and didn't leave. . . .
Vote NOW

Vote Tally as of this post 3180: Yes 39% -- No 51%.
For those who votes yes, the road to destruction is paved with good intentions. When you let the camel's nose into the tent, he soon moves into the tent. For those voting no, you understand that America is for the legal citizens of America.
First, it appears to be trying to move people, specifically conservatives, into accepting a "back-door" amnesty program. The Post obviously was not concerned about unemployed Americans. Example, they overlooked one very big critical factoid: 8 million illegals taking legal American citizens jobs.

Where was their acknowledgement that 8 million illegal aliens are still in our workforce when 20 million Americans are unable to find full-time employment? Well that was not part of their agenda. And why didn't the Post demand to know why the House GOP leadership is not bringing the Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 2885) to the floor for a vote? H.R. 2885, The Legal Workforce Act, has 74 sponsors and the bill is being held up in the House Ways and Means Committee by its Chairman, Republican Rep. Dave Camp (MI-4th Dist). It has already been through the Full Judiciary Committee six months ago. H.R. 2885 bill is to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to make mandatory and permanent requirements relating to use of an electronic employment eligibility verification system (EVerify), and for other purposes.

Congress returns to work on Monday, April 16. Readers may wish to contact the Chairman Rep. Dave Camp and encourage him to get this bill out of committee. This bill should have been a "slam dunk" bill. Illegals are taking away jobs that should only be available to legal citizens (20 million of them are jobless). Read more on the bill at Open Congress.

I sent Chairman Camp a few tweets but have yet received a reply.
Napolitano said the Justice Department’s lawsuit against Alabama’s immigration law must be resolved before the Obama administration decides whether to lift the restrictions on the 30 counties.

Secure Communities is a Homeland Security program that allows the agency to check the fingerprints of people arrested by state and local authorities against federal immigration databases. Undocumented people are subject to eventual deportation.

The administration allowed 37 Alabama counties to implement Secure Communities before last summer, when the Justice Department sued to block HB 56, Alabama’s law targeting illegal immigrants. . . . The Alabama immigration law is virtually identical to an Arizona anti-illegal immigration law. The Supreme Court hears arguments in the Arizona case April 25 and is expected to rule by July. That decision could validate or nullify the administration’s suit targeting the Alabama law.

Both laws require local law enforcement officers to verify the immigration status of drivers during routine traffic stops. Federal courts have blocked that portion of Alabama’s law.

Alabama’s congressional delegation, with the exception of the sole Democrat, Rep. Terri Sewell, have pressed Napolitano to enact Secure Communities in all 67 counties. . . . “Your department’s decision to cease assisting Alabama in the removal of dangerous illegal aliens is wholly inconsistent with this administration’s stated position of focusing on the removal of those very individuals,” they wrote.

. . . Under President George W. Bush, 60 local agencies signed up for 287(g). Only eight have signed up since August 2010. Alabama officials said the number would be higher if their state’s agencies were allowed to take part.
The Department of Homeland Security has just released statistics on the 1,062,040 legal residents admitted to the United States during 2011. Once again, Mexico is by far the leading recipient of green cards, with 143,446. The next three top counties: Communist China with 87, 016; India 69,013, and the Philippines 57,01, And there are a few other communist countries in the list as well as Muslim led countries including Iran which hates the USA had 14, 822. Who are we getting from these countries? The list bellow shows the other countries in the top 20, which together received 63.2 percent of the green card total.

You can find these and a variety of other statistics in the Department of Homeland Security Office of Immigration Statistics “Annual Flow report“.
I was visiting the Legal Dept. [at Houston City Hall] to try to get clarity on exactly where petitioners may operate in "public forums". Have we been captured? What does this signify for our petition efforts?

Houston....we have a problem.
----------------
Editor Note: We are please to see the author of "Stop the Magnet" standing tall and fighting to stop the magnet of jobs and benefits for illegals. By stopping the magnet, we encourage them to leave our country. They are running a campaign to get a petition signed to get the Houston City Council to put sanctuary cities to a vote by the people of Houston, so the People can decide whether they want their city to be a sanctuary city or not, instead of it being proclaimed by a police chief, as is the case in Houston, as well as many other cities in Texas. Isn't it an outrage that an unelected city official gets to set policy for the people of Houston?
How many state, Federal and DMV laws have been broken and shattered here?
By Jim Kouri
After pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated, President Barack Obama’s illegal-alien "Uncle Omar" was handed a Massachusetts driver’s license by the Motor Vehicles Registry, making it legal for him to drive again in that state in spite of protests by law enforcement officials. In addition, federal officials continue to say Uncle Obama doesn't belong in the United States in the first place.

"Onyango Obama, 67, who lost his regular license for 45 days last week, gained his driver's license yesterday from the Registry’s Wilmington branch, after telling a hearing officer that life without wheels would have posed an undue hardship on his livelihood as a liquor-store manager. Obama bolstered his case with a letter from his employer, Conti Liquors, as well as proof that he’d enrolled in an alcohol-treatment program," said John Zaremba and O'Ryan Johnson of the Boston Herald.

There are many who have become highly suspicious of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick's complicity in the decision to give a license to a man just convicted of drunk driving. Patrick is a staunch Democrat and was appointed the co-campaign manager for President Obama's re-election run the same week Uncle Obama got his driver's license.

"How is it possible that a previously deported illegal immigrant stripped of his driving privileges after getting busted for drunken-driving gets his license reinstated? Hint; his beloved nephew lives in the White House," stated the Judicial Watch blog.

"It’s the kind of story you won’t see in the mainstream media. Thankfully, Boston’s conservative-leaning newspaper reported it this week. The president’s uncle, Onyango Obama, got his driver’s license back after losing it for driving drunk last summer. It turns out that the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles issues special “hardship licenses” that allow offenders to drive during certain times," said the JW blogger.

"Uncle Omar" is said to be qualified even though he’s not even supposed to be in the United States. Not only has he previously been deported to his native Kenya, Uncle Omar now has a criminal record. In the police report, the arresting officer says the president’s uncle was moderately unsteady on his feet, smelled like alcohol and slurred his words.

For nearly two decades Onyango Obama, who is actually mentioned in the president’s infamous memoir “Dreams from My Father,” has lived in a New England town called Framingham. Not only does he have a driver’s license (post DUI), he also has a valid Social Security, according to investigators at Judicial Watch.

A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts agency— Registry of Motor Vehicles—that reinstated Obama’s license this week said “he met all of the criteria,” but refused to elaborate on what exactly that means. When a reporter questioned an illegal immigrant getting a driver’s license, the state agency spokeswoman snapped back saying “registry business is based on registry records.”

The license award drew fire from one advocate of tough enforcement on illegal aliens. Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson expressed outrage, pointing out that democracy is predicated on law.

“When we start to interpret these laws differently and manipulate them the way we want them to work for certain people, we start to send a mixed message to people that the law doesn’t really matter,” he said.

Uncle Obama has an immigration hearing next month, according to his attorney. Expect him to get the same special treatment afforded to Aunt Zeituni Onyango, the president’s illegal immigrant aunt. In 2010 Aunt Zeituni was granted political asylum, in a rare secret hearing, by the same judge who had previously deported her, states the Judicial Watch blogger.

"The judge’s abrupt reversal remains a mystery because it all took place behind closed doors even though the Justice Department’s immigration court manual -- as well as a federal appellate court -- says such proceedings should be open," said the blog.
