Removing permissions for a game

If you want to revoke a game's access to your account (as specified when you first began playing) and stop playing the game, you can remove permissions for that game.
To remove permissions for a game :

Sign in to Google+ .
Click your full name or email address in the Google+ bar.
Click Account settings.
Select Account overview (if not already selected).
Next to "Authorizing applications & sites" click Edit.
Click Revoke Access next to the game you don't want to play anymore.

If the game developer has created an account for you on their own systems, removing permissions for a game doesn't necessarily delete your account with them. You'll need to contact the developer if you want them to remove your account or delete information they have stored about you. To find developer contact information, we suggest visiting the game developer’s website.

The dangers of cellphone radiation have been a hot topic lately, particularly after the World Health Organization gave the sobering announcement that cellphone radiation could possibly increase the risk of brain cancer. Additionally, research came out that suggested cellphones are responsible for killing off bees. They aren’t getting a good rep right now. While I was scared for a few minutes and considered ditching my Blackberry and running into the woods to live in a shack, I realized I love convenience too much. They’re not going to turn nearby cell tower squirrels into radioactive freaks just yet, but there is some concern. So instead, here are some ways to keep your brain, and other body parts, safe from potentially hazardous cellphone radiation.

Turn your phone off or use airplane mode.

When not using your phone, turn the thing off. Problem solved. If you can’t, many phones have a function that allows their cellphones to be used on airplanes. Airplane mode cuts off all wireless transmissions from your cellular device, so there is no radiation being emitted. A bonus is that the phone uses less energy to operate when wireless transmissions are halted, so it saves battery.

Guys, don’t keep the phone in your pocket.

If you’re a guy and you keep the cellphone in your front pocket, you could be putting your sperm count in danger. A recent study suggests that cellphone use is linked to lower sperm quality and a decrease in fertility. While cellphone usage seems to increase the level of testosterone in the body, there is a lower level of luteinizing hormone, which plays a big role in the reproductive system. If you’re looking to start a family at some point, better keep your phone away from the family jewels. Turn off your phone, put it on airplane mode or get a satchel.

Don’t check Facebook in the middle of the night.

Some people take their phones to bed with them, which can disturb sleep. According to a survey done by iPass, 58 per cent of those surveyed who keep their smartphones within arm’s reach wake up during the night to check their phones. About 11 per cent of those people checked their phone every single night. Even if you’re not that compulsive and use it as an alarm, cellphone radiation can still impact your sleep. A team of researchers in Sweden did a one-year study where they followed over 4,000 young adult cellphone users. Their research suggested that a high frequency of cell phone use can lead to increased sleep disturbances. If you use your phone as an alarm clock, put it in airplane mode.

As I’m sure you know, sending texts requires less signal power than making calls. Texting is a simple way to avoid radiation exposure, so when you can opt for texting over calling them. Unless you’re texting to break up with someone. Then you’re just being a loser.

Use an air-tube headset.

While the cellphone industry loves to tout headsets as “safer,” the wires used can drive harmful cellphone transmission straight into your ear. An alternative is an “air-tube” headset that functions similar to a stethoscope. It uses a hollow air-tube to transmit sound from a speaker located at a distance from the head. The tube and earpiece contain no metal conductors, which eliminates any radiation present in conventional headsets.

Use the speakerphone setting.

No cash for a new headset? Use speaker mode when talking on your cellphone and place the phone at least 5 feet away from you. The farther the cellphone is the better. Just make sure they can still hear you.

Keep conversations short.

Don’t have an hour long conversation with your boyfriend or girlfriend before bed. Even a two-minute call has been found to alter the natural electrical activity of the brain for up to an hour afterwards. Use Skype if you want to say goodnight or to catch up with an old friend or call your parents. Provided you don’t have one of those old school computers with the giant monitor.

Be mindful of good and bad reception.

The harder the phone works to establish a connection, the more radiation is being emitted. Don’t use your cellphone in an area with poor reception. If you’re trying to talk to your buddy on the subway, just wait until you get to an area with better reception. Don’t use the cell phone in enclosed metal spaces such as vehicles or elevators. Also, wait for the call to connect before placing your phone next to your ear.

By following any of these simple steps, you’re reducing the amount of cellphone radiation frying your brain and affecting your body.

An 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's northeastern coast around 0546 GMT on Friday.

It caused a four-meter tsunami in the port city of Kamishi and its tremors shook buildings in the capital Tokyo, over 300 kilometers away.

Public schoolboy on morning jog killed by train as he ran over level crossing wearing iPod

A talented public schoolboy was killed on a level crossing because he was listening to his iPod and failed to hear the oncoming train.
Sixth former Matthew Leonard was taking an early morning jog on Valentine’s Day when he was struck. He died instantly.
The 18-year-old boarder at the £25,000-a-year Christ’s Hospital School near Horsham, West Sussex, was captain of the school’s cross-country running team, a gifted mathematician and had been offered places at several leading universities.
The horrific accident happened shortly before 7am less than two miles from the school, which has 840 boys and girls who regularly achieve some of the best GCSE and A-level results in the country.
Last night the school’s headmaster, John Franklin, paid tribute to Matthew, who won a gold medal after taking part in a nationwide mathematics competition last November.
‘The school community is shocked and saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the parents, the rest of our pupils and staff at the school at this very difficult time,’ said Mr Franklin.
‘Matthew joined us as a sixth former, a quiet but pleasant young man who was well liked by both his own year group and those younger pupils with whom he came in contact.
‘He was a bright, hard-working student, holding offers for some top universities, and was also a talented long-distance runner.

A farmer at Sharpenhurst Farm – which is parallel to the railway track – told how pupils from Christ’s Hospital School would often run through his land.

‘The police and paramedics came down my road on Monday morning to get to the crossing.
‘The trains come past at about 75 miles an hour. It is a tragic waste of a young life.’
The accident mirrors the death of another Christ’s Hospital School sixth former who died more than 20 years ago. Richard Slater was killed on March 15, 1990, by the same Bognor to London train service after deliberately walking on to the tracks close to the school.
Recent research revealed that as many as 17 accidents every day occur in Britain with victims described as having put themselves into ‘iPod oblivion’.
The AA has reported that pedestrians, joggers, cyclists and motorists are all at risk of falling into a ‘zombie-like’ state while plugged into modern technology such as MP3 players.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?

Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 Degrees below Zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of Heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have Low Light, Normal Light, Bright Light, Flashing Light... But if you have No Light constantly, you have nothing and it's called Darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it is, You would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is, your Philosophical Premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality. You argue there is Life and then there is Death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process, yes of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir? (The professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher? (The class was in uproar)

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain? (The class broke out into laughter)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable and Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures? Microsoft Patches 'Critical' Crack in Windows

Microsoft on Monday released an emergency patch for a “critical” crack in Windows operating system software that could let hackers take control of computers over the Internet.

“The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if the icon of a specially crafted shortcut is displayed,” the US technology giant said in a security bulletin ranked ’Critical.’

“An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user.”

Computer users commonly use short-cuts in the form of on-screen icons they can click to instantly awaken favored applications. The Windows flaw lets hackers booby-trap such icons with malicious software that could let them control machines from afar.

Microsoft routinely releases software patches the second Tuesday of each month but resorts to making patches available “out of band” when it deems situations dangerous.

“Several families of malware have been attempting to attack this vulnerability,” Microsoft Trustworthy Computing response manager Christopher Budd wrote in a blog post.

“We firmly believe that releasing the update out of band is the best thing to do to help protect our customers.”

Some attacks have reportedly been directed at power plants and other vital infrastructure. People using computers running on any version of Windows software were urged to apply the update immediately.

Paul has finally predicted the outcome of the match between Germany and Spain. The prediction seems to be true.

Apple Unveils New iPhone 4

Apple has tonight unveiled the fourth generation of its iPhone which is thinner, more powerful and lighter than any of its previous incarnations.
The firm's boss Steve Jobs took to the stage at the Apple developer's conference in San Francisco tonight to officially unveil the worst-kept secret in technology - the iPhone 4.

Coated in glass front and back, the iPhone 4 has a high definition screen and will give new life to a handset that has achieved 50million sales in three years despite its high cost.
Jobs said the new-look device was the 'biggest leap' it had taken since the launch of the first iPhone.
'This is one of the most beautiful designs you've ever seen,' said Jobs. 'This is beyond a doubt one of the most precise and beautiful things we've ever made.'
The fourth generation iPhone will allow users to multi-task, operating a series of applications at the same time, which is something rival devices already have.
It also has a powerful 5 mega-pixel camera with built-in LED flash and is able to record high definition video.

And it has a front-facing video camera whixh enables users to video-conference for the first time on an iPhone. This feature will be know as FaceTime, said Jobs.
Jobs also announced that the new iPhone's resolution is far superior to any other smartphone screen currently available.
Unveiling the gadget's so-called 'retinal display' of 326 pixels per inch (ppi) Jobs said this was better than the magic number of of 300 ppi.
Above 300 pixels per inch the naked eye is unable to differentiate between digital screens or a printed book. The technology will be crucial if Apple hopes to dominate the eBook market.
iPhone 4 also has a much longer battery life, overcoming complaints that earlier versions burn through the power supply too quickly.
Other extras include a gyroscope which, when coupled with the existing accelerometer and compass, gives it six axis motion sensing.
And in a warning to Google, Jobs also announced that Microsoft's Bing and Yahoo will both now come as search options on the iPhone as well.
Jobs also announced the introduction of iBooks for the iPhone which will synch across all Apple devices including the iPad and the iPod Touch.
Another innovation is the introduction of iAds, specially designed adverts that will tie in with apps.
iPhone users will also be able to play hugely popular social media game Farmville, which is played by 35million people worldwide via Facebook.
The developers have written a version of the game which does not require Adobe's Flash, which Apple refuses to carry.
Apple faces a major challenge to its dominance from a raft of new smart phones from rival manufacturers that are powered by the Android software system developed by Google.
Historically, Apple has thrown up a wall of steel around its new products, keeping all details secret until the official announcement. However, that has failed on this occasion.
An Apple executive apparently left a disguised example of the latest iPhone in a bar in Redwood City, California, where it was found and passed on to the gadget website Gizmodo.
Gizmodo said the new design is sleeker, flatter and squarer than the iPhone 3GS that it will replace.
Apple's fury at the website's decision to publicise its findings has seen its staff banned from the San Francisco event.
The arrival of the new iPhone is expected to lead to Apple discontinuing supply of the original 3G version, while the price of the 3GS is expected to come down.
Currently, the UK's biggest mobile network, Orange, offers a 16GB iPhone 3GS for £189 for those who take out a £25 a month contract for two years. That is a total cost comes to £789.
The same phone can be bought for £450 for those who want a pay as you go deal.
Analyst at technology research firm Gartner, Carolina Milanesi, said: 'The iPhone 4.0 will keep it (Apple) ahead of the game.
'Is it as easy as last year to stay ahead? No. I think Android has made huge progress.'
Rodman & Renshaw analyst, Ashok Kumar, said: 'Android is the only real contender to the throne.'
He said other rival smartphone manufacturers including Nokia, the BlackBerry company RIM and Microsoft are struggling to land a blow on the iPhone.
Samsung has just released two new premium smartphones powered by the Android system, the ‘Wave’ and the ‘Galaxy S’.
Like the latest iPhone, The Wave, has what it calls a hyper definition screen giving superb image quality.
Samsung claims the technology built into The Wave provides superfast download speed and the quickest access to the internet over WiFi to date.
Historically, Apple has scored because of the tens of thousands of applications - Apps - available from its download store, including iTunes, games, maps, videos and many more. However, the Android Apps store is beginning to catch up.

Dell Android Tablet to Tackle The iPad

US computer giant Dell will begin selling an Android tablet computer called the "Streak" in Britain next month.

With a five-inch (12.5-centimeter) screen, the Streak is smaller than the Apple iPad which goes on sale in Australia on Friday following its debut in the United States last month.

"The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets," Ron Garriques, the president of Dell Communication Solutions Group, said in a statement.

"Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives," Garriques said.

Apple's iPad has a 9.7-inch (24.6-centimeter) color screen. The California maker of the Macintosh computer, iPhone and iPod sold over one million of the devices in the first month of availability.

Dell said the Streak will be available in the United States later in the summer. A spokesman for Dell Australia there are not plans as yet to sell it in Australia.

The company did not announce prices for the device, which connects to the internet through Wi-Fi or 3G cellular networks.

Dell said the Streak gives users "'on-the-go' entertainment, social connection, and navigation experience" and is "ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets, games and applications."

The Streak features a multi-touch display, a high-resolution five megapixel camera and two gigabytes of dedicated storage, Dell said. Unlike the iPad, it can run Adobe's popular Flash software.

I'm looking at something that is square in shape.
It’s silver and has a screen, under that been a wheel.
In the wheel there were four symbols, a fast forward and rewind, menu and play.
Behind it, at the bottom, there's writing that says things about copy written rights.
There's a hole at the bottom of it that is there for it to charge and update.
At the top there's a hole and a tab, the hole is for the headphones and the tab is to put it on hold.
It doesn't make a sound unless I connect headphones and press play.
It also makes a sound when I put my finger on the wheel and spin it.
When I turn it on and play a song it comes through on the headphones.
It smells like metal all around but on the top it smells like marker.
It feels smooth and cold.
It tastes like metal or what I would think metal tastes like.
Except for the top, there it tastes like paper.

The item is iPod.

If you were an angsty teenager in 1989, there's a pretty good chance that the Cure's Disintegration was your favourite album. A gothic opus with 12 songs that stretch over 70 minutes, it's a far cry from pop hits like "Friday I'm in Love" or "Just Like Heaven." Still, the album remains the highest-selling and best-loved moment of the Cure's celebrated career.

Still-going ‘80s mope rockers the Cure are now just weeks away from reissuing their classic, and perhaps most beloved, album, Disintegration. To celebrate, the band are hosting a new site: thecuredisintegration.com.

The new site features a host of Disintegration-era material, including a slew of videos, demos, Robert Smith-penned liner notes and two new songs: “Tuned Out on RTV5” and “Fuknnotfunk.”

It's been 21 years since the original album was released, so it's about time the album got the reissue treatment. Now, a new generation of moody teenagers can make it their favourite album.

4th generation iPhone

A new set of photos of a 4th generation iPhone prototype have surfaced on a Vietnamese website. The phone in the photos - which bears Apple markings - look almost identical to the one which was lost in March, photos of which were later published on the US gadget website Gizmodo.

If the new images prove to be authentic, and the components of the disassembled phone appear to confirm the provenance, then it marks another serious security breach for Apple.

According to a YouTube video accompanying the write-up on the Vietnamese website, the prototype was bought by a businessman from an unnamed source for $US4000.

The new prototype looks to include several new changes from the one lost in March, indicating that it might be a more advanced test unit.

Pictures of the phone's innards reveal what looks to be a smaller version of the A4 CPU, the same processor family that drives the iPad.

Apple, which is known for its obsession about keeping new products under wraps, is due to release the 4G iPhone in a few months.

The discovery is a boon for companies which make iPhone accessories and gives them a valuable head start in designing new covers and pouches for the next model.

Last month Gizmodo pulled off a major scoop when it posted photos of the new iPhone, which had been left in a Silicon Valley bar by Apple engineer Gray Powell during his birthday drinks. The finder later sold the phone for $US5000 to Gizmodo, a gadget blog owned by Gawker Media.

According to Gizmodo, features of the new phone, expected to be unveiled later this year, include a front-facing video camera for video chat, a flash and an improved regular camera with a larger lens.

It also has a flat back instead of curved back, is thinner than the 3GS, is heavier and has a larger battery.

Take Charge of Your Career

Recently a high school student sent me some questions which boiled down to:

Which computer career pays the most money and has the most job security?

I was floored.

Job security?

Does this 16 year old kid write term papers on a typewriter? Call her friends on an AT&T Princess telephone? Twirl a hula hoop? Listen to a transistor radio?

Make the most money?

Does anybody really give credence to those tables showing that in Boise ID the average programmer makes $1543 more than the average network engineer?

Who cares? Do you want to be average? Is anybody average?

The truth is, although it'd be irresponsible of me to have advised her to study COBOL, she'll make the most money at whatever career she most enjoys, given some reasonable demand for it in the marketplace.

The more she works at giving her employers her best, the more money she'll make.

The more she uses her skills to solve more problems for more people -- and this can and should be some activity far beyond normal employment -- the more money she'll make.

Chances are, by the time she graduates from college the highest paying computer skill will be something nobody outside research laboratories has yet heard of.

In the long run, she'll make as much money as she sets out to make. No more and no less.

Some computer programmers are now on welfare.

Bill Gates is the richest man in the world.

The more you *create your own job* -- whether you're formally an employee or not -- the more security you have.

In THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR, Thomas Stanley and William Danko compare the "security" of employment with the "insecurity" of self-employment.

Work for a company and you get a paycheck at regular intervals, as long as the company needs you, does not go out of business and is not merged or bought out by another company.

The owner of a pest control business has irregular income, but from maybe 1000 or so different customers.

If one of those customers moves away or switches to a competitor, the pest control owner still receives income from the other 999.

Given reasonable management and marketing, pest control businesses will survive as long as the world contains mice, roaches and other bugs.

I wonder how many Enron employees now wish they were pest exterminators?

Techies who understand they must constantly search for new ways to help people -- whether employers or customers -- will make a lot of money in this the third millenium.

Techies who just want management to leave them alone to code in peace will have a niche when the economy is booming as in 1999. In bad times . . . .

It's not news that the iPad has taken the world by storm. From the 99 year old who got the iPad as her first computer to the mass of people ditching their Amazon Kindles in exchange for this new ultra-portable computer, iPad is sending computer manufacturers into a tizzy.

With Apple's emphasis on HTML5, CSS and Javascript, there's a new host of web standards that any website owner or developer should get accustomed to if they want to keep visitors on their website and as engaged as they would be from any standard computer browser.

If keeping your audience engagement rates high and your bounce-rates low is important to you, here are 8 ways to optimize your blog for iPad and keep consumers on your website:

1. Remove any and all Flash
Whether you simply have flash introduction, have your videos embedded with Flash code, or your entire site is built using Flash—get rid of it. Neither the iPad nor the iPhone can read Flash and Apple developers have no intention of making the devices compatible. Any Flash objects on your website is replaced by a blue box for anyone trying to view it on the iPad. Check out Apple's list of iPad Ready Websites.

2. Update your code to HTML5
This isn't a requirement, but it's by recommendation of Apple. Besides, with the world wide web upgrading to HTML5, you might as well update your site, which the Apple iPad can not only read, but is a clean framework that will also help you in other areas such as the time it takes for your site to load.

3. Look for website plugins
If you are running any type of open source Content Management System (CMS), keep on top of available and upcoming plugins that will automatically format your website for the iPad. Joomla already has a plugin released, called the Mobile Content Switch which will let you choose which content people can view depending on which device they're browsing from.

4. Drop complicated navigation
On the iPad, drop-downs and other hovering-type menus don't always work as smoothly as they do on computer browsers. In most cases, the user can only get into the first layer of navigation and nothing underneath. If you decide to design an iPad-compatible version of your website, a more simplistic navigation will help users get to the areas of your site that they're looking for without being obstructed.

5. Remove any fixed positioning CSS
Since you can't resize your browser on the iPad like you can on a computer, Apple warns against using fixed-positioning in your CSS. The fixed elements depend on the size of your browser, and since the iPad had a fixed width and height, this can cause overlapping of elements like text and images.

6. Pay attention to Apple
Apple does more than most companies to get users involved in their products. They've put together extensive kits for developers who want to create apps on the iPhone and iPad, so it's no surprise that they already have a helpful Preparing Your Web Content for iPad guide.

7. Test your site on an iPad
This doesn't mean you need to go out and buy one, you can always just stop by an Apple store and test it out or borrow one. Just because your website displays correctly in Safari doesn't guarantee it's working on the iPad, since the browsers are built differently and optimized for different sized screens.

8. Create your own app
Not only is this a great way to monetize the content on your website, but creating an app for the iPad gives you increased exposure to consumers who might have known about your site beforehand. Whether you are a content publisher or you sell shoes online, an app created for the iPad is obviously the ultimate in iPad optimization. Start developing apps by downloading the iPad SDK.

Remember, you're designing for a touch screen. Apple has taken care of all the back-end work that transforms your HTML into touchable objects, all you have to do is make your calls to action easy to click and your layout clean to view.

BlackBerry to have new operating system as it takes on Apple's iPhone

MONTREAL - The BlackBerry will have a faster browser for Internet surfing with its new operating system as the competition to win consumers continues between Research In Motion (TSX: RIM) and iPhone maker Apple.

RIM showed off its new BlackBerry operating system to analysts in a video with music by the Black Eyed Peas at its annual trade show in Florida in Tuesday.

Mackie Research Capital analyst Nick Agostino said the new operating system puts the RIM device on par with the iPhone for ease of use.

"The demonstration they made would lead you to believe that they've levelled that playing field," said Agostino, who attended RIM's trade show in Orlando.

Analysts have often knocked the BlackBerry for a clunky, slow web browsing experience.

PCMag analyst Sascha Segan noted the BlackBerry now has a "modern" web browser that uses the same core technology that's in Apple, Android and Nokia smartphone browsers.

"The new web browser is going to improve RIM's position somewhat," Segan said. "This means that hopefully with BlackBerry 6.0 that you're going to have a full desktop-like web experience."

However, Segan noted the new operating system still lacks enough appeal for developers to create consumer applications for the BlackBerry.

"Apple and Android still have the edge in consumer apps," said Segan, managing editor for PCMag Mobile in New York.

"RIM is in danger of their phones becoming things that just do what they do out of the box, as opposed to smartphones that get new features through apps every day."

Apple has been able to get a lasting buzz from its consumers applications that offer everything from identifying snippets of songs to translation services to finding restaurants.

When connecting to someone, the new system will offer all the possible ways that you can talk to them, such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Segan said.

It also has a "fancier" music player and the operating system is designed for touch devices developed by Waterloo, Ont.-based RIM and BlackBerrys with keyboards.

Segan the new operating system is designed for current BlackBerry platforms, meaning many BlackBerrys can be upgraded as long as wireless carriers OK the upgrade.

He also said RIM announced it will enhance the browser with flash technology that powers videos on a lot of websites, something the iPhone does not support.

Shares in Research In Motion closed down 28 cents at $72.59 on Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
