Hello people. I missed this group so much that I have decided to bring it back!

SO I have switched over the template to new blogger and I am editing it now.

We have a new group too - on ning.com. You can create a profile to further promote your blog - add photos, video and widgets to your page, plus add your blog post links on the blog!

Has been a member since the early beginnings of Blogs That Flickr. His blog : WAX(Y) POETIC features Wax(y)'s spoken words; poetry; web installations; and graphic design projects.

Currently Wax(y) has compiled several web installations (short films), fusing his photography and motion with urban street sounds. The film I will introduce to you in his own words :

Flickr Code

F1 - I think my friend has a Flickr account.

F2 - I have an account, but my icon is still the default gray face.

F3 - I have a personalized icon, and just started uploading photos.

F4 - I've got plenty of photos and they are even organized into sets.

F5 - I broke down and bought a Pro account to better organize my photos. I've added my photos to some pools. I even check out some of the group forums.

F6 - I have had several photos make it to the Most Interesting Explore page. I check Flick daily.

F7 - My photos frequently can be found on teh Most Interesting Explore page. I browse Flickr several times a day.

F8 - I've tried to figure out a way to make money posting photos and moderating groups on Flickr. I would ask Flickr on a date if I could.

F9 - Flickr rules my life! I always have Flickr going in the background. I upload photos at least weekly. I sleep with my camera cradled gently next to me. My significant other had to talk me out of naming a child or pet "Flickr". And I'm ok with that.

3.)Why do I have to put that ringcode on my site??

When you submit your site , the ringsurf system designates a special site ID number for you. By placing your ringcode on your site --- the system can recognize your site as an approved member. This allows anyone to use the links in your code to visit other blogs in the ring.

Most traffic in the ring is from those surfing from site to site --- having your blog listed on the member list is limiting the traffic potential.

Slavic Gypsy

My father moved us
around to find work when I was a kid, we moved 8 times by the time I was 12,
and that was my introduction to my way of the gypsy. It is a part of me I
now enjoy, the ability to experience and adapt to change while maintaining a
home within.

Of course this didn't become clear to me until I was older. I didn't like
being a gypsy when I was a kid. Nobody likes to always be the outsider and I
became quite introverted, with a tough shell of protection around me. That
was how I survived.

Inside that shell I was very frightened. I never felt secure. I never
knew what to expect and when something went wrong I didn't have any real
home to run to. My home base was my family and I couldn't rely on them to
provide me with the emotional security I needed.

When my father finally settled us down in a rural town for my junior high
and high school years I perfected the art of outward serenity, everything
bottled up tightly inside in my secret place. It was my only way of
distancing myself. I threw myself into my studies and tried to bond with
other outsiders, with little success. I was the straight A priss and subject
to much jealousy and hatred. I was the nameless valedictorian with a speech
in the yearbook that didn't have a signature. Many people made those years
a living hell for me. Of course, I, the brilliant martyr, took it all in
stride without complaint, as I had already learnt that my complaints would
fall on deaf ears.

I suffered
much emotional abuse in those years. I didn't speak up because I was used to
running away. The frequent moving of my gypsy childhood had taught me I
could simply solve a problem by removing myself from a situation. Thus, when
we settled I internalized this. Ever time I got called down I would stand
immobile and quiet while inside I was the gypsy running fast, far away from
the pain.

Now you'd think I must have been very cold and incapable of affection. I
was and I wasn't. To those I mistrusted, I was distant and polite, defiant
in my silence. To those I befriended, I was fanatically loyal and guarded
them fiercely from injustice. I accepted them unconditionally. Given the
people in my world at that time, I would have had to. Otherwise I would have
gone through with the suicidal thoughts that were always in the background.
Somehow I saw beauty and love even in that darkness. I wasn't strong enough
to see it in myself, but I saw it in others. That beauty is what gave me
hope. It is what I was running to.

The great thing is
that I never gave up. In searching for that beauty, I finally ran into
myself and stopped. I listened to all that I never heard before. I gave
myself something nobody else can. I gave myself freedom of speech, the right
to be heard.

...And I'm still listening.

Sorry I haven't addressed this sooner. The whole situation has truly sickened me. A whole city is in shambles. All those people are stranded and so many have become casualties of a unthinkable situation.

My heart goes out to them. Probably this is the feeling most people relate with is Helplessness.

I am editing the template...Again. Blogger has been a pain , not aiding my pursuit to have a less cluttered template. The thing which bothers me most is the fact that I will edit my template -- viewing it in the "preview" mode and it will look beautiful, the CSS working it's magic, but when Blogger finally publishes it --- it looks distorted.

I can always go back (I save all my template designs)if things look less than satisfactory.

We have 210 blogs listed. 8042 Total hits/views for our main memberlist on ringsurf.com

I have had some recent applicants who have added the code just to be listed and approved, then remove the ringcode.

I frequently check all blogs in the rotation. Your blog will be removed from the member list, put back into the queue.

This is stupid, in my opinion, not just from a ring owner's perspective, but as a blog owner.

When you remove the code you limit the traffic views to your blog to just one source: ringsurf.com. No one else can visit your blog from the othe 200+ blogs. And who is to say they will click on your blog, when going down the list ?

Which brings me to another concern : When submitting your blog to join , please add a description, the more specific or Original --- the more distinct your blog becomes. There are millions of blogs on the internet --- showcase your blog as something different.

Also please Add keywords --- come on kids, we are flickr'ites, don't tell me you don't know what tags are?? That is hard to believe.

keywords (tags) help your entry in the list become searchable. All ringsurf rings are indexed by google and other search engines. Not only can people search our ring, but the more popular the ring becomes, the more crawlable it becomes. I have googled "Blogs That Flickr" and the sites which come up first are those blogs that have keywords, that ping regurlarly.

When your are blogging your thoughts, your words become keywords, but more importantly your titles become a tag of sorts. In the ProBlogger article "SEO Tip 1 -Use keywords in titles" Darren goes into this further:

"One of the things IÂm constantly amazed at is how many web publishers miss one of the easiest ways to maximize their positioning in Search Engines by simply including the keywords that theyÂd like to be found for in their post titles... ....To put it bluntly - when it comes to blog SEO I believe that your page and post titles are incredibly important. Google in particularly seems to value the words in your title incredibly highly. ...Keep in mind that research shows that people search the web a lot for names of products and people and that they are often quite specific their searches. If youÂre writing about something specific make your title reflect this."

A true lesson if you want to increase your site traffic --- embrace the internet and how it functions, and it will embrace you.

Flickrd experience, new members

e certainly have had our share of new member submittials. Any the variety keeps growing, all ages; nationalities; political views; genders; One might say a melting pot of flickr'ites, not inclusive of one specific area --- but one of global proportions. I think we can all agree that this mimics the general enviroment on flickr. I personally feel this is a very important part of flickr. We can see their world through each other's eyes, words and camera lens. Blogs That Flickr has extended this --- bringing us into the comfortable enviroment of each other's personal expression domain, be it a weblog or photolog...

The current post is back to being published on the main page of our weblog, it will be under the blogs that flickr graphic. Also recent news can be found on the right hand side of the weblog, after reading the teaser, click on the "read more" link to be taken to the actual post.

As for our fundraiser, we have collected 22% of our goal ! Thanks for all of your donations! It's that support that makes me work so hard. At this rate we will have our new site in no time.

have been debating this for a while. Do we need a separate photoblog? And my answer is yes.

Photoblogs Are a category in themselves.
A

photography blog, picture log or simply a photoblog,is a web application which contains periodic posts containing user-taken photographs on a common webpage. These posts are often but not necessarily in reverse chronological order, from the date when the photograph was taken.

Photoblogs are, for the most part, run by amateurs who profile/diary their lives through photographs, along with some text at times. They are more individually based (personal) than corporate. Some are maintained by single authors, while others have multiple authors. Some users post one to multiple photos every day, while others post sporadically. Many photoblogs enable visitors to leave public comments, which can lead to a community of readers centered around the site; others are non-interactive. Some feature text-based blogs along with their photographs. Obviously the formats of the photography are wide - digital, film, paintings, and drawings appear, sometimes exclusively.

So now in addition to blogging our news and blogging tips here , I will be blogging photos from the Get Flickrd! photo pool daily to our photolog. There is a side flickr badge, showcasing photos in the medium size format. So photos will be getting lots of exposure.

All photo posts will have attribution and details about your copyright applied to them. And a link to your blog & flickr photo stream. I have already posted our first picture. So please go visit, bookmark and comment!

Hello members! We have reached 203 Members! I will be reporting the newest additions in the next installment on the Blogs That Flickr | Weblog.

Google "flickr" and our homepage come up as the 71st result out of over 9 million web pages --- I think that is pretty fantastic, as we have only been on the web for 5 months. As time progesses who knows how far we will move up the google pages.

As your ring mistress I am compelled to introduce this ring to as many internet sources as possible. I sit for hours submitting to web directories and leaving comments on other blogs or forums. The more known this ring/homepage is the more traffic it brings to our members.

Technorati has been a big part of this - since using technorati tags I have seen our exsposure and site traffic jump in leaps and bounds. Not just here on our hompage but on my other blogs also. If you are not too familiar with technorati tags let me break it down.

Tags are mainly a category or subject. The purpose of tagging your post would be to optimise your blog to be as searchable, as possible. Technorati searches by url and by text in posts, but more specifically tags. Technorati is alerted of specific tags and posts by ping services.

Does you blog support categories? It is very easy for bloggers who use blog platforms such as Moveable type; WordPress or Typepad to become tag- optimized. If you are publishing Autodiscovered Atom/RSS this will allow technorati to automatically read your categories as tags ! For example your template may show categories as :

[tagname]
[tagname]

For those of you who use blogger/blogspot or similiar blogs as your platform - whether it is hosted on your domain or on blogger, these sites are using the Blogger API

Some blog platforms are configured to automatically ping certain sites. if you would like to add code to your blog

Everyone who blogs and post regularly should ping their blog ! This is the best way for you to alert potential readers you are indeed a blogger on the web.

The posts that are tagged, are compiled and displayed in a feed for each specific tag. Technorati has enabled these feeds in RSS so you can easily keep tabs on the newest trends according to subject : For example Blogs That Flickr.

Want to let others know you are a Blog that flickrs??

Just cut & paste this snippet into your "post footer" of your blog template. Then make sure to ping your blog after each new post. Technorati will list your blog on the Blogs That Flickr tag page.

I can also say from experience that pinging your blog each post, pays off. It can bring you much more traffic if you are properly listed in multiple blog directories.

ping - to contact, usually in order to remind of something;

In weblog terminology, pinging is the act of sending a small notification to a central server that says Hey, there's new stuff!.

In most blogging applications, i.e Moveable Type, this is fully automatic.
For most blogger platforms there is no code configuration. We are stuck to do this task through a 3rd party.

I use 2 sources to ping my blog : Ping-o-matic and Pings.ws
Both sites ping multiple sites, 13- 15 different ones at a time. Ping-o-matic has server issues due to the amount of pings happening at any given time. I ping them and usaully have error messages for several of the pings --- usually for Blogshares. So Pings.ws is my back up --- I usually get better results and haven't had error messages yet, it pings blogshares with no problems.

You can use this same snippet for other tag subjects. The most important thing to remember is that if you are using more than one word per tag --- seperate the words with a + sign.

You may want to go to the main technorati tag page and search for your blogs name. In most cases the page hasn't had any tags yet. Using the specific tag for your blog allows for your blog to become even more searchable, and these tag pages rank high on the google search results as seen in this screen shot for flickr :

The search results were 11 out of 9 million results.

Blogs That Flickr Hosting & Domain Fundraiser

The time has come as this ring continues to grow, to claim a domain and host this weblog on our own site. There are so many things I could do , like include a members area to boost member participation. I have a hosting package in mind, but in order to recieve a discounted package I must pay in advance per year.

I cannot pay for this alone so I propose a fundraiser! This fundraiser could consist of anything that doesn't include a high start up cost. I have several ideas in mind and your suggestions are appreciated.

I have started a Dropcash campaign(donations through paypal) and we are excepting anounymous donations through Amazon.com. The goal we are working towards is $180.00 or 2 yrs of hosting. You can monitor our progress by clicking on either links on the main page of this blog, and you will see a progress bar.

All donors who want to be named will have a permanent spot in our credits page on the new website. For those who donate more than $5 : I will publish your name/ business or website title and a text link or graphic of your choosing.

Hello. I have been doing some house cleaning. Any blogs that have incorrect coded ringcode have been moved back to the queue. I have given everyone who I moved more than enough time to add your ID or fix the mistakes I emailed you about.

So after this latest list of problems, I have added the most popular ringcode snippet to the code box in your Blogs_That_Flickr account pages. I had removed it and added just a url leading to the code page, but this has caused some problems with people who are new the world of webrings.

So hopefully this little lag of people joining & not having code on their blog; and Not communicating with me via email, will ease up a little bit.

Please submit sites that are working -- I have had 2 people add sites that are not functional.

Had some spam referal urls added to the queue -- which I find hilarious becuase no-one will see them in the queue!

Please remember that your site IS NOT approved until I see ringcode on your site. Sites that are not approved will not be in the list, or rotation.

Ringcode will not work without your site ID OR with extra symbols! If you leave the *** symbols around your ID number the code will not work.

Only BLOGS or sites with a BLOG will be approved. I have had several websites add their site to the queue . If you need a definition look here.

Sorry if It has been a week before my last post, as you know I usually am really good about posting everyday or two.

I just had my pastry college summer term's final( I got an A !!). Also I have been trying to create a website for Blogs that Flickr that includes a FAQ. It is hard finding a free set up with ftp access....But I am trying.

I am also working on listing members by country. If you like this idea - please leave a comment letting me know your country (it makes it much easier than going through every blog individually)

I will be posting regularly again starting Monday. And I will list the newest members too....

The images are part of a FlickrTour and all credits will be given in the first comment and in the new, improved "add notes" method that gives links now. Only images that allowed a tag to be added were used. If any member does not wish their small image to be in the online-only fun little poster, I will remove it and replace it with another. Member images will be sent with notice to the member about this little personal project just for fun inside flickr. No money to be made here, folks!

Ring code , Newest Flickr'ds to join

Unfortunalty a handleful of members are leaving ***SITE ID*** areas undeleted, without adding their Site ID number.

This is very important --- without your ID number, the navigation code will not work! So visitors cannot continue surfing other sites in the ring.

I have added a new area on the sidebar, titled "code issues" and have started adding those sites that are miscoded.

If you see your site - run your mouse over the link and you can read what is wrong with your code. Please fix these problems ASAP, or I will have to start taking sites out of the rotation and putting them back in the queue. Why have sites that have bad ringcode listed? That destroys the whole purpose of a ring. There are only about 1% of members who have this problem.

UPDATE, 5/3: Wow, I wasn't sure if any of my gimmick-free photos would enter into the realms of my cast-of-Veronica-Mars pics, given that those were featured around the Web, but this photo has jumped right into their ranks. I should get injured more often.

Never let it be said that I only post flattering pictures of myself.

I've been coming home late recently — having forgotten that my computer is not only where I check e-mail but also my TV, DVD player, connection to most of the world, etc., I should have realized that I might need to use it after work hours. Now, I've lived in poorer neighborhoods before, but they've always been fairly lively — if someone wanted to attack you on E. 187th St., they'd have to deal with hordes of people betting on the outcome. Now, I live on one of the few Manhattan avenues you can feel safe about crossing without looking both ways at any time of day. The streets are nearly empty at night, and that makes me wary. I look in car windows, judge the threat potential of everyone I see, and track the footsteps of an old man walking a block behind me. As I walk, I plant each foot in the right way that I can launch a backward thrust kick. I am not going to be easily surprised.

Last night I didn't do any of that.

I don't know if it was because it was earlier than normal (about 11 p.m.) or because I was coming from 125th St., which is busy, because I had actually thought to myself that muggers wouldn't want to stand around out in the rain, or just because I was deeply lost in thought, but other than idly looking down the street ahead of me, I didn't do anything to prepare myself. In fact, a made a fatal error — the twin white trails of iPod headphones dangled from my ears. Not only did this make me a valuable target, it made me totally oblivious to the five black kids, about 16 or 17, running up behind me.

*BAM*! White flashed as the lead kid jumped and punched me on the side of the head. I turned around, saw a kid yelling "C'mon! You want a piece of me?" and my first thought was that they were joking. In the adrenaline of the moment, it didn't feel like they had hit me that hard. *BAM!* another kid hit me in the mouth from the side.

Now I had my bearings. I circled around the lead kid — who was wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans, and a three-quarter-inch thick gold chain, and considered my options. Now that I was alert, I could see that these kids couldn't fight worth a damn. A heavyset kid kicked at my groin and I blocked it without thinking; another kid punched me in the arm and I barely felt it. They were already getting jumpy — they'd clearly thought that their punches would have knocked me down or at least put me off-balance, and instead I had barely moved. The leader was standing near the curb now, and calculations flashed through my mind. Given how he was standing, a front thrust kick would have knocked him about eight feet back on his ass (just last week I knocked a karate partner about 10 feet back into a wall with a side thrust, and he'd had heavy padding). A couple of kids were heavyset, but I had about 25 pounds of muscle on any of them. If none of them kids had weapons, I could probably take them — but that was a big if. Ok, what do I have on me? Just my iPod. No computer, no camera. Screw it, it's not worth it.

All that went through my head in less than two seconds as I tensed -- and then relaxed -- my front leg.

So I didn't fight, but I'd say martial arts still helped a great deal, since the idea of having people who were trying to hurt me wasn't alien. I stayed perfectly calm and made no threatening motions. I backed out into the road so they weren't flanking me and hoped for a car to come by. Even when they continued to attack me, I deflected their awkward punches and more awkward kicks just by twisting my body, not lashing out.

"OK, fine, it's ok. You want the iPod, fine, let me take it out." The cord was tangled on my backpack.

At this time, a woman called out from the window. "Hey you kids! I'm calling the cops!"

Between her yelling and the fact that their attemped beat-down wasn't even affecting my demeanor anymore, they got nervous. "You're stalling, man, you're stalling!" The leader reached under his sweatshirt and into his pants. "I'm gonna shoot you, man! You want me to shoot you!"

I figured he probably didn't have a gun, but that was the last thing I wanted to risk. They didn't have me someplace where they could have their way with me, so as long as none of them pulled out any weapons, I knew I'd leave in about the same shape I already was. And if you were headed out for a night on the town with an option to mug, wouldn't you bring at least a knife? I decided the speech I gave the redneck who pulled a knife on me a few years ago — "Is this really worth going to prison over?" — would likely just infuriate these kids, so I tried to keep them calm.

"Look, man, I'm not stalling. The wires are tangled. Get it yourself." He grabbed into my pocket. Once again I wished it were just him or with one other guy, since the idiot had just left himself defenseless. But he grabbed it and they started running.

I gave sort of a resigned sigh and went to grab the umbrella Christina had lent me — a big square one with Shakespeare's face on it.

A heavyset kid in a puffy olive coat — the one who'd tried to kick me in the crotch and failed spectacularly — yelled out, "Leave the umbrella!"

I was trying to stay calm. I was trying to keep my personality safely out of the way. I failed. "That's a Shakespeare umbreallla, man. Do you really want that?"

"Just leave it!" He grabbed it and ran away. Obviously he was trying to celebrate the Bard's birthday, which it was.

The cops arrived only four or five minutes later and we sweeped the neighborhood, but we couldn't find them anywhere. That first punch had hit me in the eye and cut me a bit with his bling, and eye cuts bleed profusely, so they were skeptical of the guy with blood rushing down his face saying he didn't need to go to the hospital. Fine. They transferred me to an abulance and I chatted with two cool EMTs on the way to St. Luke's.

I was admitted pretty quickly. My doctor was young and attractive — maybe 29 — so I flirted with her a bit. She asked what I was reading. "Master and Margarita — I guess they weren't too interested in 1930s Russian fiction." She gave me a wry smile, "I don't think many people are." I decided I was going to ask her out, a) because it would be a fitting end to the night and b) because how many times do you get to use the line "I'm not usually this bloody"?

That was before they kept me sitting on the hospital bed for four hours, waiting for five minutes of work to be done on me. Try reading a book right after you've been assaulted. It just don't work. I had been pissed at the muggers before, but after the mind-numbing boredom they subjected me to, I was murderously angry. So when she came back I … well, fine, I flirted a bit more, but she wasn't getting coffee out of me!

Along the way I left messages for a number of people telling them I'd been mugged. Thanks to my cheap phone and fat lip, Missy called me back this morning: "Dude, did you call and tell me you have mumps?"

Wow! --I have just glanced at this photo, by thumbnail, not knowing the story behind it. Sorry for that to happen. Thanks for posting the story under the description. It is a great shot ...very fight club-esque.

Leaving the box...

It begins with a question of "why". The cracking open of a door into the world of reasoning. I see the light, reach for it, but I'm afraid to step through. The dark is comforting, simple, anonymous. Everything is uniform and there is no need to interpret or think. Voices whisper and hands tug at my clothes. "Don't go!" they tell me, "It will burn you!"

I hesitate, fear swelling in my throat, doubt meshing my feet to the floor. "If you leave, you'll be alone. No one will save you." I want to turn away, but I'm mesmerized by the way the thin sheet of illumination cuts through the darkness. I want to touch it, to see how it envelopes my fingers. I take a step forward, but the whispers become louder, angrier, more insistent. "You will be lost to us! You go to something you cannot understand. You condemn yourself! Stay!"

I want to understand. There is something familiar about the way the sheet of light reveals the dust dancers crossing its path. The memories come a little at a time. There is something familiar about the sting as it peels the lacquer from my eyes and the thwack as my skull splits open under its intensity. This place was a beacon once. I was in a dark place like this once before and was drawn here when it sparkled and flared.

When did the light go out? Ahhh...we became too lax, too comfortable, too trusting. No one was left to tend it, keep it going. As we slowly sunk into the comfort of our stunted minds, it just winked out. No longer able to tell if our eyes were opened or closed in the darkness, we let our lids fall and slept.

Some of us dreamed, unable to completely forget. When one shouted, "Why!" in her sleep, it unsealed the door and the blade of light stabbed at our eyes until they opened. Some fled calling it an evil thing, a temptation to lure us away to be consumed. Some of us remembered and were curious, but we feared it after our long slumber.

I reach out my hand in wonder and let it touch me. I wanted to draw comfort from it, to lighten my sluggish body, but it sears me to my heart and crushes me to the floor. When the light hits my face, it shoves sorrow down my throat and squeezes tears from my eyes. Dark hands claw at my legs and the whispers rise to a screeching in my ears, "You have deceived yourself and look how you are punished!"

For a moment, I simply struggle to suck in the air. It has become gritty like pulverized glass. Over-stimulated nerves hum and pop and long-dormant muscles scrape against bone as I struggle to move away from the dark. The door is wide open now and I am revealed, no longer a shadow trapped within a shadow that was my dormant mind. My brain crackles and ignites as I struggle with the concept of "choice". I force myself to stand, pushing away the clutching hands, closing my ears to the screaming condemnations emanating from the darkness.

As I pass through the door and into the full force of daylight, I am consumed by pain, sorrow, joy, fulfillment, disappointment, confusion. With absolute acceptance and without bitterness, I realize they were right. The light is fire: warmth, scorching flame, blinding light and illumination. It is heavy and harsh, but my feet are remembering how to move. Calmness comes with knowing I have chosen the struggle. Strength comes with the acceptance of what that means. I move forward hesitantly, a breath for each step and soon I feel as if I can walk forever."

Submit your blog & email info.

Go to the code page & choose a style of ringcode. Add this to your blog.When I review your site and see the ring code, I will approve your blog.

You will recieve an Approval email, with your membership details (Site I.D ) You will need to delete the "***SITE I.D***" areas and add your site I.D --- which will look like this : "http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=Blogs_That_Flickr;id=2;

I wil continue checking sites on a regular basis, so please leave your code in place.

I am really excited to announce the Blogs That Flickr ringcode has been recoded! The newest code is easily customized to the look of your site, and it is very smooth looking.

After some playing around , I relized that Live Journal will strip the new code. So Unfortunalty, Live Journal users can't use the latest version. You will have to use The original code , which is letter example "H".
