In the beginning...

I had the unique opportunity to get my first immersion into the industry before my first official day on the job at the eighth annual Berkeley Stanford Cleantech Conference. This year’s theme was Building Cleantech Business in Emerging Markets, which happened to be highly relevant to my new role of helping build UGE’s Latin American market. It was really exciting to be in Silicon Valley, surrounded by so many intelligent, entrepreneurial people interested in clean energy, and listening to highly reputable panelists from across the industry discuss current issues affecting clean tech.

The United States is responsible for almost 26% of the world's energy consumption, but makes up less than 5% of the world's population.

At UGE, we're experts at renewable energy technology, but this weekend, we're going to aim to conserve energy!

Before heading out for the weekend, we're asking everyone to please make sure their computer is turned off and all unnecessary electronics are unplugged--laptop and cell phone chargers, etc.

Future Energy Conference NYC on April 11, 2012

Last Wednesday, David and I attended the Future Energy Conference at the NYU Stern School of Business. The event was attended by energy professionals, clean tech startups, venture capital firms, and students from NYU Stern. Eight startups present three minute pitches in front of the fifty+ person audience and a panel of three representatives from New York City cleantech venture capital groups and one representative from Shell Energy.

Wind Turbine Maintenance

Our turbines are designed and manufactured in-house. All of our energy solutions are installed by UGE Partners allowing us to ensure that the same quality and standards are given to our products from the moment they are conceived until the time they are commissioned.

All UGE Partners are trained in the necessary installation for our turbines, and often include a service agreement when installing an energy solution.

It's great to hear how easily the office is abiding by Earth Week plans!

Yesterday, when employees went out for coffee, they took their travel mugs to the local coffee shop - honoring yesterday's "No Disposable Coffee Cup" stance. This was an excellent follow-up to over 1/2 the office signing Monday's UGE Sustainability Pledge!

The first day of UGE Earth Week was quite successful with over 1/2 the office signing the Sustainability Pledge.

Today, we take on the challenge of going a full day without a work week staple, the disposable coffee cup. Join us today as we attempt to avert a trend and minimize our waste going into the landfill.

Today's Fact: Did you know that Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 styrofoam coffee cups every year?

A scary thought, but lucky for us, two nearby coffee shops gladly fill up travel mugs!
