While we are waiting for the announcements of the phones like Sony Ericsson W395, Sony Ericsson C901 and Sony Ericsson C903, Sony Ericsson announces for Japanese AU by KDDI phones like Sony Ericsson Premier3 Walkman and Sony Ericsson S001 Cyber-shot. Is it not cynicism?

Why? Well because:

Sony Ericsson Premier3 Walkman is representing the best you can wish for Walkman phone: About 3 inch Full WVGA TFT Bravia display (480X854 pixels resolution), beautiful and unique housing design with three different - Music, Keitai and Theater Styles, exclusive Walkman player for Japan with the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), which delivers ClearStereo and ClearBass through the headphones and speakers, 3.2 MP CMOS camera with AutoFocus and LED flash and plenty of multimedia features.

The dimensions of the phone is about 50X105X16.3mm and approximately weights 113 grams. The battery is 770mAh lithium-ion battery and the phone is able to work in the standby mode for 220 hours and about 200 minutes in the talk mode...

While Sony Ericsson S001 Cyber-shot features a 8.1 megapixel CMOS camera with PhotoFlash and an Exmor sensor technology similar to that used in Sony’s DSLR cameras α900 & α700 with Smile Shutter, Face Detection, Photo Fix, BestPic and other Cyber-shot stuff, about 3.3 inch Full WVGA Bravia display (480X854 pixels resolution). The form factor of the device is slider and the front side of the phone could be familiar for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 owners :)

The dimensions of the phone is about 115X51X17.8mm and approximately weights 145 grams. The battery is 870mAh lithium-ion battery and the phone is able to work in the standby mode for 250 hours and about 230 minutes in the talk mode...

And can you imagine that those phones are YET ANOTHER Sony Ericsson phones for Japan? While for us, it could be a couple of the best phones ever made by Sony Ericsson.

IBM announced that the company has signed a five-year outsourcing agreement with Sony Ericsson regarding the management of Application Maintenance and Development of all of Sony Ericsson's SAP applications globally.

IBM will leverage their global leadership in Application Management Services for the delivery of best-in-class solutions to support Sony Ericsson's operations and business improvement initiatives in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Sony Ericsson, a fifty-fifty joint venture of Sony Corporation and Ericsson, was established in October 2001. Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications is a global provider of mobile multimedia devices, including feature-rich phones, accessories and PC cards. The products combine powerful technology with innovative applications for mobile imaging, music, communications and entertainment.

"This relationship with Sony Ericsson is a good example of IBM's commitment to deliver high value services that enable customers to be more efficient and focused on their core business," says John Blackburn, Vice President IBM Global Business Services.

The contract was signed in January 2009.

Yeap, we have another unannounced phone leake here :) one more member of the Cyber-shot family - Sony Ericsson C903 - recently known as Sony Ericsson Frances.

Well, what we can say about this phone. First of all, at last, after those copy/paste designs C903 will be something different. It will be equipped with 5MP camera with Auto focus and of course all Cyber-shot stuff like: Face detection, Smile Shutter, PhotoFix, aGPS for geotagging and e.t.c., active lens cover, 2.4 inch display with 320×240 pixels and the form-factor of the device will be a slider.

So in a fact, for February we are waiting for announcement of the Sony Ericsson W395, Sony Ericsson C901 and from now on - Sony Ericsson C903...

Do you guys remember Sony Ericsson's 5MP Cyber-shot handset with Auto focus, Xenon flash and codename filippa? Well if you are our frequent reader, than I guess you do :D So it turned out that Filippa is Sony Ericsson C901 from Cyber-shot family.

I'm not going to reiterate known technical characteristics in this post, you can read everything about C901 in this old post... I can just add that it will be announced in February and release date will be in April.

Yet another Walkman phone has been leaked... According to SEMCBlog, this time it's a Walkman version of the Sony Ericsson F305 - device with codename YAO - Sony Ericsson W395.

Handset supports practically the same features as F305 with addition of the typical stuff of the Walkman phones, like Walkman player, probably expanded internal memory and e.t.c.

I guess it will be announced in February and forecasted release date will be in April 2009.

New Sony Ericsson owners join a thriving community of Symbian, Java and Windows Mobile users who are already experiencing Vringo’s high-quality video ringtones and VringForward technology, which lets users send ringtones to friends just by calling.

This partnership with Sony Ericsson, which was established when Vringo took home a prize at last year’s Sony Ericsson Content Awards, is the latest step in Vringo’s continuing push toward global availability and monetization of video ringtones. Recently, Vringo announced partnership deals with mobile carriers in Turkey and France that enable users to download the Vringo application and access content, in some cases on a paid-subscription basis.

Sony Ericsson reports results for fourth quarter and full year 2008

The consolidated financial summary for Sony Ericsson for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2008 is as follows:

Units shipped in the quarter were 24.2 million, a sequential decrease of 6% and a year-on-year decrease of 21%. Sales for the quarter were Euro 2,914 million, an increase of 4% sequentially due to a positive impact of currency fluctuations, and a decrease of 23% compared to Q4 2007. The decline in sales year-on-year was driven by lower volumes, due to the global economic slowdown that resulted in contracting consumer demand and decreased availability of credit.

Gross margin became 15% due to negative impact from exchange rate fluctuations, restructuring charges and material write-offs.

Foreign exchange fluctuations had a positive impact on sales in total, but a large negative impact on costs of goods sold (ie. costs increased) sequentially, as well as year-on-year.

Income before taxes for the quarter was Euro -133 million, excluding restructuring charges of Euro 129 million, compared to the profit of Euro 501 million in Q4 2007. Despite a negative result in the quarter, Sony Ericsson maintained a healthy balance sheet with a strong, net cash position of Euro 1,072 million.

The average selling price (ASP) for Sony Ericsson in Q4 2008 was Euro 121, an increase sequentially but a decrease year-on-year. The sequential increase of ASP was due to a positive impact of foreign exchange rate fluctuations and to the sale of a higher proportion of high-end models. Estimated market share for Q4 2008 is maintained at around 8%.

“In economic terms, 2008 has been a tumultuous year with world markets experiencing a serious downturn. The mobile phone market has been greatly affected by this and as expected, the fourth quarter continued to be very challenging for Sony Ericsson. Our business alignment is progressing as planned, with the full effect of annual savings of around Euro 300 million expected by the second half of 2009. We foresee a continued deterioration in the market place in 2009, particularly in the first half,” said Dick Komiyama, President, Sony Ericsson.

The additional cost saving measures initiated by Sony Ericsson are aimed at reducing operating expenses by a further Euro 180 million annually, with the full effect expected at the end of 2009. Sony Ericsson currently estimates that the cost for the additional restructuring activities will be covered by the previously announced Euro 300 million restructuring charges.

In Q4 2008, the successful roll out of the Xperia X1 and Cyber-shot C 905; Sony Ericsson’s first eight mega pixel phone as well as the PlayNow plus music service positively impacted the business. In the same quarter, Sony Ericsson announced that it joined the Open Handset Alliance and is currently developing a new phone that uses the Android Open Source software.

Earlier in 2008, Sony Ericsson announced that it became a founding member of the Symbian Foundation; an initiative will create an open mobile software platform based on Symbian OS.

Sony Ericsson estimates the 2008 global handset market as being around 1,190 million units or around 6% growth from 2007, compared to the company’s previous forecast of around 10%. Sony Ericsson forecasts that the global handset market will contract in 2009 and that the industry ASP will continue to decline.

Remember last post about Sony Ericsson C510? Well now it's official.

Today Sony Ericsson officially announced new member of the Cyber-shot family Sony Ericsson C510 Cyber-shot, which includes:

Reliable 3.2 megapixel Cyber-shot camera
Smile Shutter – clever technology that detects a person’s smile and immediately takes the photo!
Face Detection – focusing technology of up to three faces at a time
Auto-rotation – alter the landscape and portrait view by rotating the mobile phone

The C510 Cyber-shot supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 850/1900/2100. C510 Cyber-shot will be available in selected markets from Q1 in the colours Future Black and Radiation Silver.

Sony Ericsson C510

Looks like new year for Sony Ericsson starts with new leak of the new Cyber-shot handset with codename Kate, successor of the Sony Ericsson K770 - Sony Ericsson C510.

Sony Ericsson C510 features 3.2MP camera with Auto Focus and LED, face detection, smile shutter, picture light, photo fix and is equipped with 2.2 inch 262K color QWGA display, accelerometer for auto rotation when viewing, active lens cover, dedicated shutter key, illuminated imaging shortcut keys, direct blog shortcut key and it's able to download and upload to YouTube.

Built-in memory of the phone is 160 MB and supports Memory Stick Micro (M2) for additional memory.

The phone will be shipped in feb 2009.

Official Skype App for Your Sony Ericsson - Updated

Well, if you want to use Skype without your computer, you're in the right place :)

Today I've reinstalled Skype's official Java application for mobile phones and find out that after my last post about it, the Beta version has been updated and the number of supported handsets has been increased.

If you remember, last time to run Skype's new application on my Sony Ericsson P1i, I had to install the version for Sony Ericsson W850i, because there was no P1i or other UIQ3 devices in the list of compatible phones. Well, in this update, there is still no compatible version for my smartphone, but now at least we have it for a couple UIQ3 devices, for Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 and it's the most approximate version for me.

So I've installed one for G900 and it works very well, unfortunately this version for touchscreen phone has no touchscreen capabilities on my P1i (Or maybe it's not working on G900 too? G900 or G700 owners, can you please comment about this?) except of the touch softkays, which is quite enough for me :)

The software is still free and now it works on almost 100 handsets.

Sony Ericsson to Swtich Windows Mobile Smartphone Production Partner

I guess it's not a secret that Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile phone, its glorious Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 was made by HTC, in my opinion, by one of the best Windows Mobile based smartphone manufacturer and let's face it, X1 is one of the best smartphone on a market.

But looks like it was the first and last Windows Mobile based smartphone made by HTC for Sony Ericsson.

According to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report, Sony Ericsson's partnership with HTC will come to an end when the current production of Xperia X1 handsets completes its business circle. But of course that doesn't mean that there isn't going to be the next Windows Mobile based smartphone from Sony Ericsson, looks like Sony Ericsson plans to outsource it to Taiwan-based Mobinnova, a handset maker under Foxconn Electronics.

Well, for now this information is not confirmed officially, but in a fact, this situation was pretty possible, after the release of the HTC HD (BTW, brilliant smartphone), HTC has become primary competitor of the Sony Ericsson on a market...

India Award and Recognition Program

Indian developers are offered an exclusive award and recognition program through Sony Ericsson Developer World activities in India. Winners qualify for a 100-day mentorship to be groomed to work closely with Sony Ericsson and become a Sony Ericsson Certified Developer.

The first step towards becoming a Sony Ericsson Certified Developer is to enter the Sony Ericsson Developer World Awards, exclusively for developers in India.

There are two award categories: "Best Application" and "Best Application Idea", with entry open for 45 days until January 10, 2009.

The winners from the two categories, six in total, will qualify for the 100-day mentor program and move onwards to becoming a Sony Ericsson Certified Developer.

Submitting entries also means Indian developers become registered Community members of global Sony Ericsson Developer World, enabling you to enjoy the benefits of free technical support by participating in the discussion forums and wikis.

Submissions are open through a new web site until January 10, 2009.

The name of the new phone tripod is Sony Ericsson IM502 and actually, there is not so much to talk about, more interesting thing is its naming, nomenclature... If we'll be based on SEMC Blog, its naming is a good example of the new nomenclature of upcoming Sony Ericsson accessories.

Well, looks like IM502 will be the first accessory for 2009 with new nomenclature...
