A large number of men keep their faces clean shaven. However, there are also many of us that prefer to sport some facial hair, a mustache, a beard, or both. Sometimes, especially when we are younger, the hair that grows on the face is very light in color, making it almost invisible. Later, as we get older, we begin to see gray mixing into the natural hair color. In both cases, many men desire darker facial hair without the lighter coloring. Here, we will look at how to darken facial hair.

In the case of younger men with pale hair, shaving often has the effect of thickening the hair shafts, making the facial hair coarser than the head hair. These thicker shafts appear to be darker in color because they are more visible.
Another method of darkening facial hair is the application of henna to the hair. This works to dye light colored hair to a darker color with red highlights. Other ingredients can be added to the henna to produce even darker colors.
There are also hair dye products made just for coloring men's facial hair. Just for Men is one example. Grecian Formula 16 is another that some men also use to darken the gray hair at their temples. The dye should be brushed into the hair on the area of the face one wishes to darken. Care must be exercised during this process to keep the dye off the skin because it will color the skin as well.
In the case of a thin mustache, some men use a pencil in much the same way women do their eyebrows. This method works well if one has a thin, fine mustache such as the pencil style. It is not very good with a fuller mustache.
The method used by most men is the commercial dyes made for men. These come with complete instructions on their use. They are also fairly inexpensive.

When it comes to choosing a hairstyle, one feature that many people look for so that they may emphasize it or try to hide it is a widow's peak. But, what is a widow's peak?

This is a genetically dominant characteristic of the hairline that results in a V forming in the center of the hairline above the forehead. In movies and books, the feature is generally associated with villains or monsters. Count Dracula, Eddie Munster, and The Joker are all famous fictional characters that had a widow's peak. To determine if you have one, simply face a mirror and pull the hair back from the forehead. If a prominent V is seen, then you do have this characteristic.

The most believable is the superstition that a woman who carries this type of hairline will outlive her husband, becoming a widow. If you want to know how to make homemade hair bleach, you will first need to understand that you should never use chlorine bleach on your hair. While you can't expect to bleach jet black hair to a platinum blond, you may be able to add light highlights or even to go several shades lighter overall.

Lightening your hair with homemade products is a multi step process. Begin by collecting the ingredients you will need so they are available when you are ready for them. These products are available in most households. Lemon juice, peroxide and chamomile flowers is one recipe that you may find satisfactory.

You should start by shampooing the hair. A mild shampoo is preferable, but you should follow your regular shampoo regimen. Apply lemon juice on the hair. If you want to lighten your entire head, no further action is needed. If you just want a sun bleached look, use a comb and apply the lemon juice only on the part of the hair that you want to lighten. Sit in direct sunlight until hair has dried, or up to twenty minutes.

Mix one-quarter cup of peroxide with enough water to complete a rinse with the solution. Check the shade of the strands of hair to determine if you have lightened it to the shade that you want. If not, do a second rinse with a half-cup of peroxide and water.

Once hair is lightened to the preferred shade, steep one-half cup of chamomile flowers in several cups of boiling water. After the mixture has cooled, you should rinse hair strands with the chamomile tea. This type of conditioning agent is mild and makes your hair smell great.

HOT HAIRSTYLE TRENDS FOR 2011

Folks are so diverse in 2011, which means that there's never just one hair style trend that's hot at any given time. All of history is fair game for re-invention. Truly, there's not much that hasn't been done before. Yet somehow, each incarnation takes on a fresh spin, and emerges fabulous.

The latest hair style trends sweep the globe slowly, which means that the life cycle is actually a few years from the birth of a new trend to the eventual fizzle. And then there are those we can't ever seem to eradicate completely (terrible 80's bangs), but that's another article, another time.

Today's hair trends can be broken down into five general categories. Here's a rundown of each...

Old Hollywood Glamour - The vintage Hollywood glamour look is characterized by smooth, voluptuous waves, and deep side parts. The best techniques to get the look are pin curling and finger waving. Top it off with a beautiful vintage accessory on one side or at the back. Look for items with rhinestones or feathers, especially ostrich feathers...we'll be seeing alot of those.

80's Inspired - A return to the 80's means an influence from that time...texture and movement, shorter layers throughout the top, lots of waves and tousled curls. It does not mean that if you're still sporting a tired old eighties mullet, you're suddenly back en vogue.

The New Mod - Think "super-fly Beatle". The re-born version of the classic 50's-60's mod style has shorter lengths and texture in the crown, which become heavy, almost blunt bangs that skim the eyelashes. Annoying, I know, but hey...what's a little discomfort in the name of fashion? The back and sides of the new mod style can range from short to medium with either lots of texture or distinct bluntness around the hairline.

Disconnected and Asymmetric Cuts - Extreme angles create a sculptural feel with this hair trend. Blunt edges cut in unexpected places. No blendy-blend here. This trend is very edgy, but can be tamed down by going with an asymmetric cut (one side longer than the other). The angle of the cut can range from a gentle slope to a plummet, with one side very short, graduating to chin-length as it comes around the head.
Very short haired folks can also take advantage of this trend. Carve fun patterns into the sides of the hair. Or go more extreme with a version like I recently saw Ed Robertson from the Barenaked Ladies sporting. Part shaved, part everyday guys short haircut. It looked to me like he had to bolt from the barber's chair halfway through his buzz, but it's all in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.

Mohawks and Faux-Hawks - A hot trend for both guys and gals, the mohawk will be settlin' in for a good spell. This look is immensely versatile, possible to mimic on any hair length. If your hair is short, use a wax or gel and simply direct it forward and up in the center. For a temporary mohawk on longer lengths, back comb a rectangular section from your front hairline to your crown. Slick the sides down close to your head, either behind the ears or secure these sections straight back and underneath the back sections. Instant faux-hawk...hair today...gone tomorrow!

A tad more commitment is required to achieve an authentic mohawk look. You'll need to have your stylist trim up the sides and back/sides, leaving a "peak" of length down the center of the head (obviously), otherwise, it'll be difficult to create the classic mohawk shape.

Make a trend your own by incorporating elements from one or two of the above influences. Keep your hair type, face shape, and lifestyle in mind when choosing a new hair style. Just because a mohawk is in style doesn't mean you're an automatic candidate to sport one. If you have a long or diamond shaped face, a full-on mohawk would be a disaster. (Unless you're going for the "pointy head" look, which is doubtful.)

If you like to experiment, stick with the trends that don't require alot of commitment with the haircut. The Hollywood Glamour look, the faux-hawk, and the new mod are good options for this because they can easily be changed the next day.

Hair style trends are forever shifting, morphing into new versions of themselves, then dying out entirely...well, at least for the next few decades, 'til they emerge once again and sweep the planet. Now that you're feeling inspired, let me leave you with this...Have fun with your hair! After all, you'll be dealing with it on a daily basis for the rest of your life...What better reason to spice it up a little?!

Identifying Major Alopecia Areata Causes

At present, it's believed and scientific research supports that alopecia areata causes stem from a discrepancy in the immune system of the body. The result is baldness. Unlike male pattern baldness, this type of balding can occur in women as well. It will appear most common in children, adolescents and in young adults.

When the abnormality in the immune system occurs, the individual's immune system attacks the body tissues. In the case of alopecia areata, it is the hair follicles that are disrupted. The condition interrupts the normal formation of hair.

Over time, since new hair growth is prevented and the normal hair loss continues, the individual ends up with bald patches. In extreme cases, all body hair is lost. More commonly, there are areas where no hair grows on the scalp.

Researchers have identified the presence of immune cells in the hair follicles of affected areas. It is not known why this migration of immune cells occurs. Research is continuing into the precise reasons for the embarrassment of the symptoms.

There appears to be an association between alopecia and other conditions considered autoimmune related. Some other common autoimmune disorders are ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vitiligo, thyroid disease and allergic disorders. Men can be every bit as vain about their hair as women. This means that men are as prone to using hair dye to cover gray or even to change the color of their hair completely. However, men, and some women, tend to get in a hurry and fail to take precautions against getting dye on their skin. This leaves many wondering how to remove hair dye from skin.

There are commercial products made specifically for the purpose of removing hair dye from the skin. However, one must go to a salon to find these products. They are not likely to be available at any department store or the local Wal Mart.

For those who do not wish to go out to a salon and find hair dye removers, there are some options that can be tried at home. One that is highly recommended by salon stylists is to use the same dye that has stained the skin to remove it. This is accomplished by taking the left over dye and applying it to wet skin. Rubbing the dye slightly will help it bond with what is already on the skin. Rinse the dye away and wash the area with soap and warm water to remove any residue. This should remove the dye completely.

Another idea is to wash the affected area with a mixture of baking soda and dish detergent. Brands that contain lemon juice usually work better than others, though any brand of dish detergent will work with sufficient scrubbing.

Some people recommend using toothpaste. The mild abrasives in the toothpaste will help to exfoliate the skin and remove the hair dye colored outer layer without leaving the skin raw or sore. One can use the fingers alone to rub in the toothpaste, but using a toothbrush makes the task easier and faster.

Another remedy that some say works well is to collect cigarette ashes and mix them into a paste with water. Apply this paste directly to the affected skin and allow it to set a few minutes. Wash the ash mixture off with soap and water to strip the dye from the skin.

For those with a bit more time before they have to leave the house, application of petroleum jelly or mineral oil to the color stained area and leaving it set overnight has been shown to loosen the dye from the skin and make it easier to wash away.

The good news is that there are ways that can be learned how to remove hair dye from skin. One is not stuck with this unwanted stain on the skin until it wears off.

Many guys want to know what the coolest, trendiest haircut they can wear is. They ask around and they look at men’s magazines to see what’s hot and what’s not. That’s all fine, however, they ignore on a few factors that are absolutely crucial when choosing the right haircut.

Sure, that new haircut Zac Efron is wearing looks hot… on him. This does not guarantee it will look hot on you too. Celebrities usually have a few hairstylists orbiting around them, trying to figure out how to make them look amazing.

These experts know one secret that, from now on, is in your hands as well.
This factor is the single most important one to look at when choosing a new haircut. And that factor is…

…the shape of your face.

A haircut is not something to look at in isolation. It needs to be put in a context which is… your head. Depending on the roundness of your cheeks, the size of your ears or how long your actual face is, a haircut can look amazing or it can make you look downright ugly.

By now you’re probably asking yourself: this sounds too complicated… I’ll just go to a hair stylist and ask his opinion.

You should go to a hair stylist. In fact, I recommend it. The can and will recommend you a great looking haircut based on your facial shape. The only thing is.. it may not be the one you like.

That’s why I urge you to take some time and identify your facial shape, then look for haircuts that might look good on you. Only then you should go to a stylist and ask his opinion.

OK, let’s get started.

There are five basic facial shapes. Some stylists will tell you there are four, some will say there are eight. Let’s stick to five to keep things simple.

Just look at each of them and try to determine the one that’s closest to your face. Use a mirror if necessary.

Shape 1: round

I’ve put this one up first because this is where I fit. For many years I though the best hairstyle is very short. A hairstylist encouraged me to try something new so I did… with amazing results.

The trick about a round face is that you should make it look longer. Longer faces are more sexually appealing in guys. Take a look at the following picture to get a feel of the options:

If you have oval face, you’re very lucky. Most hairstyles go well with your facial shape. All you have to do now is find something that will really make you stand out from the crowd. Here’s a few ideas:

Shape 4: triangular

When someone says triangular face, they need to look no further than Justin Timberlake. He’s always trying on new haircuts so you’ll have lots if inspiration.

If you have a triangular face, your forehead is visibly wider than your jaw, so you need to balance things out a little. So don’t wear bangs or leave your hair too wide to the sides, it will only make your forehead look even wider.

Shape 5: diamond

If this is you, you probably had a hard time finding a haircut… until now. Just look at what Johnny Depp is doing and try to do the same. Your forehead is not very wide so you want to do something about that.
