I have created the golden metaphor to explain SEO to clients. I was trying to explain SEO to a non-technical 80 year old client (the single best businessperson I have ever met) and I came up with the following metaphor.

Your website is like an ambitious young man trying to meet lots of attractive women. Web users are like impressionable women who make a lot of bad choices with men. Google is like her parents. Using a search engine is similar to letting the woman’s parents pick suitors for her at a high society party.

Web 2.0 was referred to as this idea of the so-called Web as a platform. The concept was such that instead of thinking of the Web as a place where browsers viewed data through small windows on the readers' screens, the Web was actually the platform that allowed people to get things done. But this really didn't catch on. In fact, it's fairly hard to grasp what that really means.Later people started thinking of Web 2.0 as the programming tools used to create the Web pages that were considered cutting edge Web 2.0. This included AJAX and SOAP and other XML and JavaScript applications that allowed the readers to actually interact with the Web pages more like you would with an application on your desktop.

Now Web 2.0 is really starting to mean a combination of the technology (like AJAX) allowing the customers to actually interact with the information. Web 2.0 is starting to mean the situation where amateur writers and developers are able to create applications and Web sites that get more credibility than traditional news sources and software vendors. Cloaking in SEO World

Cloaking generally means to present different version of web page contents from of search engines to search robots and human visitors based on their browser's user agent or IP address. It's a deceptive method used to cheat search engines in order to rank well for desired keywords.

Not always but in most of the cases, cloaking is also used to trick users to visit certain websites based on their description in search engines. For example a user searching for some product may click on a website in search engine based on its description and title but the final website will not be the one described in SERP's. It will be a totally different one. Therefore, these practices that are designed to manipulate search engines and deceive users by directing them to sites other than the ones they selected, and that provide content solely for the benefit of search engines should be avoided.

Different Cloaking Methods

IP address Cloaking - a method of presenting different contents based on determining IP addresses. e.g. Search engines with certain IP addresses will be shown a one version of a web page and all other IP addresses will be shown another version.

User-Agent Cloaking - a method of delivering different versions of a website based on User-Agent. e.g. Search engines and/or users using different versions of web browsers are served with different contents of a web page.

HTTP_REFERER Header Cloaking - if a user is coming from a certain website (e.g. clicking a link from search results or a website) they will be presented a different version of a website based on the HTTP_REFERER header value.

HTTP Accept-Language Header Cloaking - may be used to show different versions of a website based on a users web browser language without letting them for an option of language selection.

JavaScript Cloaking - users with JavaScript enabled browsers are shown one version while users with JavaScript turned off (like search engines) are shown another version of a website.

Cain and Abel (often abbreviated to Cain) is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Windows. It can recover many kinds of passwords using methods such as network packet sniffing, cracking various password hashes by using methods such as dictionary attacks, brute force and cryptanalysis attacks. Cryptanalysis attacks are done via rainbow tables which can be generated with the winrtgen.exe program provided with Cain and Abel. Cain and Abel is maintained by Massimiliano Montoro.

Some virus scanners detect Cain and Abel as 'malware'. Avast! detects it as "Win32:Cain-B [Tool]" and classifies it as "Other potentially dangerous program", while Microsoft Security Essentials detects it as "Win32/Cain!4_9_14" and classifies it as "Tool: This program has potentially unwanted behavior." Even if Cain's install directory, as well as the word "Cain", are added to Avast's exclude list, the real-time scanner has been known to stop Cain from functioning. However, the latest version of Avast no longer blocks Cain.

The author, and owner of oxid.it states on that site that his programs are not malware: "I can assure to you that there are no viruses or hidden features in the programs from my site. Cain & Abel v2.0 does not infect files, it does not send your passwords over the Internet or anything like that."

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page, used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is referred to as the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

A PageRank results from a mathematical algorithm based on the graph created by all World Wide Web pages as nodes and hyperlinks, taking into consideration authority hubs like Wikipedia. The rank value indicates an importance of a particular page. A hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a page is defined recursively and depends on the number and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it ("incoming links"). A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for that page.

Numerous academic papers concerning PageRank have been published since Page and Brin's original paper. In practice, the PageRank concept has proven to be vulnerable to manipulation, and extensive research has been devoted to identifying falsely inflated PageRank and ways to ignore links from documents with falsely inflated PageRank.

Password Recovery in Windows XP

How to Recover Password in Windows XP

First Method:

If you forgot your log-in password in Windows XP. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:

Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen,

Press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box.
Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank.
Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.

Now you can reset your account password from

"Control Panel -> User Accounts".

Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

Second Method:

Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten password by using "Reset Disk". If you created a Password Reset Disk in past, you can use that disk to reset the password.

Third Method:

If the above mentioned tricks don't work, then try following trick which is actually a loophole in Windows XP Setup and a big security hole:

Boot using Windows XP Setup CD and follow the instruction.
When it asks to repair your existing Windows installation, accept it and press "R" to run the repair.
Setup will start repairing your Windows and will start copying files, etc.
After a few minutes setup will restart your system and when it restarts don't press any key when it shows "Press any key to continue..." otherwise Setup will start from the beginning. Don't press any key and setup will resume where it left.
Now it'll start doing other tasks and will show a small progressbar with a few details in left side.
Look carefully at the details and when it shows "Installing devices", press <Shift>+F10 keys in your keyboard.
It'll open a Command Prompt window. Now type nusrmgr.cpl and press <Enter>.
It'll open the same "User Accounts" window which you see in Control Panel.
Now you can remove or reset any account password without any problem.

Fourth Method:

There are many 3rd party utilities which claim to recover forgotten Windows password, like Ophcrack,Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, and many others.

Fifth Method:

If all fails, then simply reformat your Windows XP.

Is Sitemap Important?

Search engines use automated software called "crawlers","spiders" or "robots" to trawl the Internet looking for content to index.

Typically these crawlers are quite passive; they simply follow hyperlinks. Most of the time this works well, but there are a growing number of cases where crawlers fail to find and index important online content. Such cases include content that is:

    * inside databases, usually only accessible via a search form;
    * linked to through dynamic code, eg. JavaScript, Ajax, Flash;
    * obscured in some way, eg. through redirection, framesets, iFrames;
    * presented dynamically, especially using multiple, variable parameters;
    * restricted by user authentication, eg. CAPTCHA, log-in or user session;
    * not linked to at all.

This kind of un-indexed content is sometimes referred to as the "Deep Web" or the "Hidden Web".

Sitemaps - an idea instigated by Google but now supported by all the main search engines as an industry-wide practice - are a supplementary way of listing the content available on a website in a simple, open and "crawler-friendly" format. Sitemaps do not replace existing crawl-based mechanisms, but they enable crawlers to do a better job of indexing a website.

What is Sitemap, Anyway?

In its simplest form, a sitemap can just be a simple plain text list of URLs from your website. It may also be written in a recognized syndication format such as OAI-PMH or RSS.

But most often it is written in XML - following the XML Sitemaps protocol - and can include the following additional information:

    * when each URL was last updated
    * how often each URL changes
    * how important each URL is in relation to other URLs on the site

This additional information allows search engines to crawl websites more intelligently.

You can create a sitemap either by hand, by customised routines, macros or programs or by using off-the-shelf sitemap generation software. A good Content Management System (CMS) should now be able to create XML sitemaps. If you are procuring a new CMS, check that it can - or make it a requirement!
Once uploaded to the website, search engine crawlers can be pointed to the sitemap either through the "robots.txt" file or by informing a search engine via its dedicated submission services.

“Do follow” is the opposite of “No-Follow”. This no follow attribute comes into play with the posting of blog comments. The no-follow tag tells the search engines NOT to follow the link to any other web sites.

The logic behind using no follow is, it’s good for the blog since there will be fewer outgoing links and therefore less “link bleed”, leading to better Google page rank. Using no follow also makes sense because there are blog spammers out there who will, and have, posted blog spam comments solely for the benefit of getting more incoming links to their site, which helps page rank. Do Follow blogs are going against the norm and turning the No-Follow tag off, enabling do-follow of out going comment links.

Why am I always look for Do-Follow?

You want people to comment on your blog posts. You want more of an interactive community. That’s what Web 2.0 is about – community, relationships, and user created content.

But, how do you encourage people to comment on your blog posts? You give them something in return. You give them an outgoing link to their website, when they make a quality comment on your blog. You also allow the search engine to follow that link to their website by using the do follow attribute.

You also need to let people know that you are a Do Follow Blog. Some visitors will have no idea what that means, but those who do know what it means will appreciate it and will often leave a comment.

The main objective of setting a blog into nofollow is to "Prevent Spamming", for me thats the bottom line. However, there are some other reasons, here's the list of those:

You get increased spam from people using dofollow search engines
You get increased spam from people using lists of dofollow blogs
You get Internet Marketing Genius encouraging their interns to comment on their behalf

What will I Gain from all these things ?

I think the biggest gain is in community

I don’t have to write all the content myself, my readers contribute and gain a small reward
What happens when you engage a community of linkerati? They link to you more often
If you gain more links, you are just sharing part of a bigger pie
The tools are keyword based – people with websites covering a specific topic visit your site – maybe initially to just drop links, but it is amazing how many can be converted to regular visitors who leave constructive comments, and link to you from their own sites.

Google doesn’t give penalties just because you decide to let those providing user generated content have a little link love.

You have no tool to check keyword ranks? Tired of keeping an eye closely to your sitename or URL in Google SERPs? Here's something you may find useful.

Requirements :

Firefox browser
Firebug add-on

Steps:

1. Open Google.com in Firefox; Type your keyword & Enter (ex: SEO Specialist). Click Advanced Search, choosing 50 results displayed. And click Google Search to go back the SERP's.

2. Ctril + F or Edit/Find in this page & type your site URL (ex: www.bbelongi.blogspot.com).
3. Open Firebug (Tools/Firebug/Open Firebug).
4. Alt + N or click Next in Find box to find your URL (page 2 in this case).
5. If your URL's found. Click Inspect on your Opened Firebug.
6. Mouse over your site Title & notice the bold number below in Firebug:

Dance Google Dance

Knowing Google Dance

The name "Google Dance" is often used to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Google's index update occurs on average once per month. It can be identified by significant movement in search results and especially by Google's cache of all indexed pages reflecting the status of Google's last spidering. But the update does not proceed as a switch from one index to another at one point in time. In fact, it takes several days to complete the index update. During this period, the old and the new index alternate on www.google.com. At an early stage, the results from the new index occur sporadically. But later on, they appear more frequently. Google dances.

When this Dancing Scenario Happen?

The name "Google Dance" was in the past used to describe the period that a major index update of the Google search engine are being implemented. These major Google index update occured on average every 36 days or 10 times per year. It was easiest be identified by significant changes in search results, and by an updating of Google's cache of all indexed pages. These changes would be evident from one minute to the next. But the update did not proceed as a switch from one index to another like the flip of a switch. In fact, it took several days to finish the complete update of the index.

Because Google, like every other search engine, depends on their customers knowing that they deliver authoritative reliable results 24 hours of the day, seven days a week, updates pose a serious issue. They can not shut down for maintenance and they cannot afford to go offline for even one minute. Hence, we had the Dance. Every search engine goes through it, some more or less often than Google. However, it is only because of Google's reach that we pay attention to its rebuild more than that of any other engine.

Since August 2003, the famous / infamous Google Dance is no more. Or rather it has become less dramatic. Google now performs updates every week, with most movement occuring on Mondays. These ongoing updates feature mostly minor algorithm and index updates.

So, during any month there will be minor changes in rankings. This is because Google's bot or spider is always running and finding new material. It also happens because the bot may have detected that a website no longer exists, and needs to be deleted from the index. During the Dance, the Googlebot will revisit every website, figure out how many sites link to it, and how many it links out to, and how valuable these links are.

Because Google is constantly crawling and updated selected pages, their search results will vary slightly over the course of the month. However, it is only during the Google Dance that these results can swing wildly. You also need to consider that Google has multiple data centers, sharing more than 10,000 servers. Somehow, the updates to the index that occur during the month, and outside of the Google Dance have to get transferred throughout. It's a constant process for Google, and every other search engine. These ongoing, incremental updates only affect parts of the index at any one time.

Dancing Importance

For most people, this event in and of itself was not important. However for anyone in the search engine optimization industry it was a period of note. Pages got temporarily dropped. Sometimes it lasted a day. People panicked. Then they are re-added, and they are better placed than before, and things calmed down. It's interesting to see how overpoweringly important this one engine is.

3 way linking involves 3 domains to build a strong linking structure, simple form of link wheeling.

Downstream linking:

client site <---- supporting sites <------- web 2.0 sites (mga FFA links, articles, forums, SB, comments etc)

Semi-3 Way linking:

other client site -----> linkpartner site ---- > client site

3 1-way linking

client site -----> linkpartner or web 2.0 sites
linkpartner or web 2.0 sites ---- > other client site
other client site -----> client site

Quite Effective however direct linking is more effective.

Although many candidates dread them, job interview questions are wonderful things! They are your greatest opportunity to prove to the interviewer that you are the best person for the job!

The key is to give better answers than anyone else. To do this, you must:

(1) Anticipate likely questions;

(2) Develop excellent answers;

(3) Practice!

Be enthusiastic and confident when responding to questions. Don't rush your answers, but don't ramble on and on, either. Try to, um, avoid, like, using unnecessary words, right? And um, repeating yourself or, like, annoying phrases, you know?

A good technique is to write out your answers to the questions you anticipate, then edit them to make them more concise. Then practice your polished answers out loud, over and over. If you can have someone help you do a "mock interview," that would be the best way to do this.

Most questions will relate either to your ability to do the technical jobs/job or to the type of employee you will be. Here's one that is very commonly used to help the interviewer learn about both:

"Tell me a little about yourself."

When responding to this request, you should focus on both your personal and professional values. Always be honest, but talk about your best traits only, especially those that relate to the position for which you are applying. Highlight experiences and accomplishments you are most proud of. Here's an example:

"I'm an experienced communications specialist with extensive knowledge of public information tools and techniques. I've developed comprehensive communication plans for major public events, written dozens of articles accepted by worldwide publications, and created specialized educational programs for adults and students. I am always eager to learn new methods and procedures, and have implemented continuous improvement techniques in my past positions that saved money and increased productivity. I like working with people and enjoy group projects, but am also a self-starter who doesn't mind working on my own. I'm a volunteer with the local chapter of Special Olympics and enjoy participating in community events. My goals are to complete my Master's Degree and broaden my experiences with community relations."

Remember to tailor your response to the specific job. By studying the job announcement, you'll get a good idea of the skills and experience being sought. Work those into your response.

Consider this your own personal commercial. If the interview consisted of only this ONE chance to sell yourself, what would you say?

"What do you feel has been your greatest work-related accomplishment?"

Choose one example from your past that was important to you and helped the company you worked for. Give specific details about what you did, how you did it, and what the results were. Try to pick an accomplishment that relates to the position for which you are applying. Employers like to hear about accomplishments that reduced expenses, raised revenues, solved problems or enhanced a company's reputation.

"What is your greatest strength?"

This is a great chance to highlight your best skills. Don't pick just one, focus on your top three or four. Some examples are: leadership skills, team-building skills, and organizational skills. Determine which strengths would fit best with the position for which you are applying. "What is your greatest weakness?"
