This is my character design for July’s character design issue of CAProjects magazine (Issue 189). I was approached by the magazine’s Art Editor to produce a character to ‘poke out of a manhole’ that was already placed on the cover. First I created my back story (also included in the magazine) and then set to work sketching, inking and vectorising the little chap.

“Barnaby Bluefuzz is a deadly fur coated buccaneer who got lost at sea during a treacherous storm and drifted into the pipe system below a bustling high street. As he bursts through the manhole he is angry and confused at the chaos that surrounds him. I think he’s eyeing up that Ice-cream Van as his next ride too!”

Inktopus- my first LaFraise Submission

Pirate Crest

Here’s a new piece called “Pirate Crest”, I made it for an exhibition a few months ago but haven’t released it online until now. I’ve been holding onto for a while, but now that I’ve got some good news I thought I would share it with you all.

I’ve started a new project with Sean Kelly – aka Bucket’O'Thought.

McKelly is a collaborative project between myself and Sean Kelly (get it? McInnesKelly!) which will take another few weeks of work before you see anything substantial (another reason why I’ve been quiet). McKelly won’t be officially launched until our site goes live (which will include, motion graphics, illustration and some design), but we do have the beginnings of a Behance page – you can find it at behance.net/mckelly.

McKelly also has a Twitter account if you want to check it out, but it’s mostly about random comments and links. We will be announcing the launch of our folio on it, so it may be best to follow us if you’re interested. twitter.com/mckellyworkshop.

Nike Elemental

This was actually completed about a year ago but wasn’t released until recently. This is one of a myriad of ongoing projects with Nike Air, Air Max, Running, Footlocker etc. Despite me finishing this last year, I’m still fairly happy with it. I think the tee has come and gone though so I don’t have full info. on it’s availability for purchase. Big thanks to Kelvin Govey and Jeff Wertz (Portland).

We Have Our Damn Dirty Ape Hands All Over This Design

What started as a desire to make a tshirt design from a whole bunch of stuff has become an on-going project for us at The Chop Shop. The first incarnation was a bunch of internet memes on one tee, but things really caught on with the second design “weRobot”, a design featuring 51 celebrity robots. The newest incarnation is “weVolve” which organizes 37 celebrity primates into the shape of a barrel monkey. This design should have been the follow-up to the robot design considering that the planet will eventually fall into the hands of one or the other.

You can also get each icon at a high enough resolution to make an iPhone wallpaper or to fashion into a holiday card for your favorite chimp. We have been posting one or two a day on our official blog which is built on the very awesome posterous platform. Almost all 37 are up there at the time of this post, so do yourself a favor and check out our blog as well as posterous itself. It is the best blogging tool we have seen and we think you might agree.
