The original vision of the film was for it to be shown in tandem with a musical performance, and the Kongfuzi tour definitely makes that dream come true. Check out the dates on our Screenings page or at the Kongfuzi site.

Screening dates with Kenneth Thomas Q&A:

This is also a good time to let you know that this date is part of a BS+V film tour planned for France in April. The incredible folks at Kongfuzi have put together a killer tour schedule that we hope to announce soon. The film will share the stage with several more awesome bands, and Director Kenneth Thomas will be present for a few of the dates to do some Q&A’s.

Anyway, the good news is that the film is now available in single disc format for those of you who are only interested in getting a hold of the documentary and skipping the extras. We’re not sure why you would want to miss out on two hours of live footage and a sexy sweatband, but who are we to judge? We had a lot of requests for the film to be available on its own, so that’s what we’re doing.

The single DVD is now available on the same page as the Box Set. You can buy one, or both, or just glance lovingly at the packaging for a while. It’s up to you.

To sweeten the deal, shipping is FREE for single DVDs. This is applicable whether you’re in New York City or Antarctica (we’re still pulling for Antarctica, dammit!). The Box Set on the other hand has a bit more heft, so shipping is still extra on those.

San Francisco! We love you, and we were amazed at how many people came out to see the film on Saturday night. The kind folks at Lost Weekend Video reacted quickly to the large crowd by pushing several DVD racks out of the way and setting out about 20 more seats than they thought we’d need.

We don’t know how a lot of you heard about the screening, but we’re glad you did. There was one canine member of the audience who provided some commentary during the Constellation section. We’re pretty sure he was a Godspeed fan.

Another East Bay screening is coming up in February at the Oakland Music Complex. More info on that soon. Also for those of you in SF, be sure to keep track of Lost Weekend’s basement theatre Cinecave plans. They just completed a more than successful Kickstarter that will outfit their basement with a killer screen, sound system and cozy velvet theatre chairs.

We’re thrilled that the box set is finding its way around the world – with a recent order from South Africa, we can honestly say that Blood, Sweat + Vinyl has reached every continent in the world (except for Antarctica… c’mon, penguins!).

And we have more screenings coming up, with the next few being regional premieres:

GERMANY:
We’re very excited to have our German premiere at Kommkino Filmhaus, in Nürnberg, on 12 & 13 January – that’s right, 2 nights to see BS+V in Germany, complete with German subtitles! Huge thanks to Paul Pabst for taking on the task of translation. We hope to have more German screenings in the future, now that these are available.

ITALY:
Also on the 13th of January, we are screening in Milano, Italy, at Santeria – and this will be the Italy premiere! This place puts on lots of awesome events, so we’re stoked to have the film shown at this venue.

UNITED STATES:
And, for all of you that truly consider San Francisco and Oakland to be separate towns… on 14 January, we are having our FREE San Francisco premiere at Lost Weekend Video! This place combines an independently-run video store and screening room all under one roof. Because of the location’s foot-traffic-friendly location in the mission district, we’re looking forward to presenting this to both fans of the music and folks that are walking in to rent Kung Fu Panda 2. Should be an interesting crowd, in a one-of-a-kind venue – come on down if you’re around! And, stop by Aquarius Records – one of the featured record stores in the film – as they are located right across the street.

Event Footage: “Blood, Sweat + Vinyl: With Hangedup in Montréal”

Montréal, you rule! We arrived to a heaping platter of croissants and coffee, and from there every moment was filled with great food, awesome people, ridiculously good record shops, and enough laughter to cause minor injuries.

Pelecanus put on an incredible evening that opened with a rare set by Hangedup followed by a screening of BS+V, all enjoyed by a packed crowd at la Sala Rossa.

We had an unbelievably awesome time, with the following as just a few highlights:

• collaborating with Hangedup, creating video projections for them to create a set of live music that was truly epic to witness
• premiering the film in Montréal, the hometown of Constellation records
• taking in the multitude of independent record shops and bookstores that easily rival those in any metropolitan city
• poutine.

And we sincerely thank:

• Jérémi, Gregory, Audrey, and William – the folks of Pelecanus that put on the event and hosted us. Our adventures were tite to say the least.
• Don – for helping make the Constellation section happen many years ago, for spreading the word, taking us out to dinner, and bestowing us with drinks in his rad pad.
• The folks from Sound Central, l’Oblique, and Dreadlash Photography for putting together a killer merch area. These guys are all worth checking out no matter where you’re located – they are top notch!

This event has been on our screenings calendar for a while, and it’s hard to believe that it’s happening in just a week! The amazing folks at Pelecanus have put together an evening that includes a screening of BS+V and a unique performance by one of the featured Constellation bands: Hangedup.

As if that weren’t enough, Director Kenneth Thomas will be projecting short films created solely for the Hangedup performance that night. This is an incredible band to experience live, and Kenneth is honored and excited to collaborate with them. We strongly recommend that you to attend!

We want this film to be easily available to everyone who is interested in it, so the box set is not the only way the film will be officially provided. It is a limited edition that exclusively contains the 2nd DVD of live footage, along with a slew of BSV merchandise. We made sure to get that out first so fans could enjoy the maximum amount of video that we’ve shot over the past 5 years. However, we realize that many folks want to see the film above all else, so we are investigating the below options.

Right now we are looking for the best distribution partnership that will make the film affordable in a high quality format through various streaming services. A good partnership might also allow the film to have a more organized theatre run and a wider selection of languages for subtitles. We will provide an update on distribution when we have it.

In the meantime, we have added an On-Line Cinema feature that allows access to some (not all) of the footage on the Extras DVD. Currently we have clips of Neurosis, ISIS and Thee Silver Mt. Zion available. Most of the footage on the Extras DVD will remain exclusive to the box set, but we wanted to allow everyone to enjoy some clips and sample the quality of the footage.

These clips are 3-camera shoots, with live audio mastered by Aaron Harris (audio engineer and drummer from ISIS). It’s an ideal representation of what to expect on the Extras DVD, which contains 15 live clips that were also sweetened by Harris’ audio skills. Plug your computer into your stereo and turn it up!

This is a very abbreviated recap of the Release Party that barely scratches the surface of the epic performances by all 3 bands. Ides of Gemini got a great response from the crowd, playing their first show in the Bay Area AND as a Neurot band. Oxbow performed a rare acoustic set on the floor before hitting the stage for a plugged-in assault, once again living up to their title as Best Live Band in the World. Evangelista then took us into the wee hours with their emotionally wrenching set of noise-driven, melodic, dirges – leaving the audience spent.

Also, some of you have been asking if there are ways you can see the film other than buying the box set of attending screenings. We are deep in the process of making the film available through a digital service like Hulu or Netflix, and will post information about that the moment we have it up and running.
