We would especially like to thank all of you who attended the screenings throughout France, organized by the almighty Kongfuzi team! We’ll be posting a much more elaborate report in a couple weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime, we wanted to let folks in Greece, Russia and Germany know that Scott Kelly of Neurosis is headed your way! He’s on his solo tour right now to promote a new album released through Neurot and My Proud Mountain. The album features Scott Kelly, Steve Von Till and Wino – all performing covers of the brilliant Townes Van Zandt.

You’ll find a few copies of the BS+V DVD and box set on Scott’s merch table, so you can pick that up too if you’re lucky enough to catch his show. His solo performance has the same intensity he brings to Neurosis, but a beauty and soulfulness all his own.

Never before have we been so frustrated with the lack of progress in the science of cloning. We wish there was a way we could be at all three of the BS+V related events this weekend, but we are limited to attending only one of them.

The French tour of BS+V, organized by Kongfuzi, starts this weekend and extends through May. You want to know how awesome the schedule is that they put together? Well, the film will be playing alongside incredible musicians like Scott Kelly, Eugene Robinson, Stephen O’Malley, Om, Pneu…. It’s beyond our greatest dreams! Check the screening schedule to find out if there are any dates near you. We’ll be there to do Q&A’s for 6 of the screenings, starting on Tuesday the 17th. We are super stoked for the shows and to meet folks who have been incredibly supportive of this project for a long time.

Also beginning this week is Roadburn! BS+V will be in rotation all weekend, along with “Black Mass Rising“, “Puzzleface” and “Slow Southern Steel“. All of these films are worth tracking down even if you just want to watch them from the comfort of your couch. But for those of you lucky enough to be at Roadburn, it’s an awfully nice way to rest your feet and still be in a heavy music frame of mind. Let us know if you happen to see it in Tilburg this weekend!

The third event happening this weekend is the one we chose to attend and are absolutely giddy just thinking about it. It has been a pretty awesome 15 months experiencing the reincarnation of Godspeed, and we confess that we’ve gone to some rather extreme lengths to catch their shows during that time (including a near-death experience that’s worth a story, but we’ll tell that story another time).

We can’t help it. We are junkies for Godspeed shows, and this weekend they’ll be playing in Big Sur – in the middle of one of the most beautiful forests in N. America, right on the California coastline. We’ll be drinking in the epic tunes beneath towering redwood trees, and sleeping in tents just a few feet away from the stage. The next morning we’ll be packing up our camp, driving back to San Francisco, and boarding a plane for our adventure in France.

Hope to meet up with some of you along the way! We’ve gotten to connect with a lot of you through the film, and it makes us really happy to meet other people who share our love for this music and excited about what’s to come.

We highly recommend checking out what they’re doing, and definitely try to attend if you can – this year or one of their future programs. These guys know what they’re doing and are putting their blood and sweat into making sure that the best of doom, experimental, and psychedelic bands are receiving the attention they deserve.

They also have a completely kick ass poster.

Thanks to world-famous Kongfuzi Booking, BS+V now has 15 dates of screenings scheduled across France in the month of April. At some of the screenings, the film will be appearing alongside some of the featured musicians, as well as a few nights where Director Kenneth Thomas will be present for a Q&A.

The original vision of the film was for it to be shown in tandem with a musical performance, and the Kongfuzi tour definitely makes that dream come true. Check out the dates on our Screenings page or at the Kongfuzi site.

We think you’ll be pretty pleased and excited when you see what Kongfuzi has cooked up for us!

No, unfortunately this is not the announcement declaring BS+V officially available on Netflix. Not yet. We’re getting closer to that, we swear. Who knew that making the film streamable would be harder than making the film itself?

Anyway, the good news is that the film is now available in single disc format for those of you who are only interested in getting a hold of the documentary and skipping the extras. We’re not sure why you would want to miss out on two hours of live footage and a sexy sweatband, but who are we to judge? We had a lot of requests for the film to be available on its own, so that’s what we’re doing.

The single DVD is now available on the same page as the Box Set. You can buy one, or both, or just glance lovingly at the packaging for a while. It’s up to you.

To sweeten the deal, shipping is FREE for single DVDs. This is applicable whether you’re in New York City or Antarctica (we’re still pulling for Antarctica, dammit!). The Box Set on the other hand has a bit more heft, so shipping is still extra on those.

San Francisco! We love you, and we were amazed at how many people came out to see the film on Saturday night. The kind folks at Lost Weekend Video reacted quickly to the large crowd by pushing several DVD racks out of the way and setting out about 20 more seats than they thought we’d need.

We don’t know how a lot of you heard about the screening, but we’re glad you did. There was one canine member of the audience who provided some commentary during the Constellation section. We’re pretty sure he was a Godspeed fan.

Another East Bay screening is coming up in February at the Oakland Music Complex. More info on that soon. Also for those of you in SF, be sure to keep track of Lost Weekend’s basement theatre Cinecave plans. They just completed a more than successful Kickstarter that will outfit their basement with a killer screen, sound system and cozy velvet theatre chairs.

It’s been a while since our last blog post, but we have lots of updates to bestow upon you. Since our action-packed premiere in Montreal, we’ve been working hard to ship all of the orders before the holiday rush at the end of the year. They’re still coming in, so please be patient – shipping tends to be quite slow at this time of year.

We’re thrilled that the box set is finding its way around the world – with a recent order from South Africa, we can honestly say that Blood, Sweat + Vinyl has reached every continent in the world (except for Antarctica… c’mon, penguins!).

And we have more screenings coming up, with the next few being regional premieres:

GERMANY:
We’re very excited to have our German premiere at Kommkino Filmhaus, in Nürnberg, on 12 & 13 January – that’s right, 2 nights to see BS+V in Germany, complete with German subtitles! Huge thanks to Paul Pabst for taking on the task of translation. We hope to have more German screenings in the future, now that these are available.

ITALY:
Also on the 13th of January, we are screening in Milano, Italy, at Santeria – and this will be the Italy premiere! This place puts on lots of awesome events, so we’re stoked to have the film shown at this venue.

UNITED STATES:
And, for all of you that truly consider San Francisco and Oakland to be separate towns… on 14 January, we are having our FREE San Francisco premiere at Lost Weekend Video! This place combines an independently-run video store and screening room all under one roof. Because of the location’s foot-traffic-friendly location in the mission district, we’re looking forward to presenting this to both fans of the music and folks that are walking in to rent Kung Fu Panda 2. Should be an interesting crowd, in a one-of-a-kind venue – come on down if you’re around! And, stop by Aquarius Records – one of the featured record stores in the film – as they are located right across the street.

As always, check the Screenings page for more info.

We have more screenings in the works, so we will let you know about them when they’re confirmed. And, we are still looking for digital distribution to make viewing this film easier for more people around the world. Until then, thanks for all of the great comments on the film and overall support for this music. Excelsior!

la Sala Rossa, Montréal, QC – 21 November 2011.

Montréal, you rule! We arrived to a heaping platter of croissants and coffee, and from there every moment was filled with great food, awesome people, ridiculously good record shops, and enough laughter to cause minor injuries.

Pelecanus put on an incredible evening that opened with a rare set by Hangedup followed by a screening of BS+V, all enjoyed by a packed crowd at la Sala Rossa.

We had an unbelievably awesome time, with the following as just a few highlights:

collaborating with Hangedup, creating video projections for them to create a set of live music that was truly epic to witness

premiering the film in Montréal, the hometown of Constellation records

taking in the multitude of independent record shops and bookstores that easily rival those in any metropolitan city

poutine.

And we sincerely thank:

Jérémi, Gregory, Audrey, and William – the folks of Pelecanus that put on the event and hosted us. Our adventures were tite to say the least.

Don – for helping make the Constellation section happen many years ago, for spreading the word, taking us out to dinner, and bestowing us with drinks in his rad pad.

The folks from Sound Central, l’Oblique, and Dreadlash Photography for putting together a killer merch area. These guys are all worth checking out no matter where you’re located – they are top notch!

Thanks, everybody, for what was one of the greatest weekends in our little film’s history!

This event has been on our screenings calendar for a while, and it’s hard to believe that it’s happening in just a week! The amazing folks at Pelecanus have put together an evening that includes a screening of BS+V and a unique performance by one of the featured Constellation bands: Hangedup.

As if that weren’t enough, Director Kenneth Thomas will be projecting short films created solely for the Hangedup performance that night. This is an incredible band to experience live, and Kenneth is honored and excited to collaborate with them. We strongly recommend that you to attend!
