TV: “Clarice” Will Face Off Against “Hannibal” (Just Not On The Same Show)

MGM and the Lifetime Network are developing “Clarice”, a show that will follow the character of Clarice Starling as featured in Thomas Harris’ novels ‘The Silence Of The Lambs” and “Hannibal”. I’d expect this show to debut at midseason at the very earlier, if not (more realistically) Fall of 2013. No word on casting but of course Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore are pretty much guaranteed not to star.

Per TV Guide, “Clarice would follow the exploits of a young Clarice Starling soon after she graduates from the FBI academy. The show’s development comes as NBC preps the 13-episode series Hannibal, which also takes place in the world of author Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter series of books. But Hannibal, from Bryan Fuller, won’t include the Clarice character, and instead focuses on the relationship between Hannibal and FBI criminal profiler Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy).

This has almost nothing to do with Hannibal (except for taking place in the same universe) in which “One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In this new drama from Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies,” “Heroes”), based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, we see where this incredible story began. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy, “The Big C”) is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths.

[Original] Meat Loaf And The Mystery Of “That”

Perhaps one of the most famous love songs of all time, Meat Loaf‘s “I Would Do Anything For Love” is a rock opera masterpiece that captures the raw, powerful emotion of love and adoration. Originally appearing on the Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell album, which was released in 1993, the song was a smash success, reaching number one in 28 countries and earning Meat Loaf a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo. But what cemented the songs place in history was the confusion and ambiguity over one of the recurring lines in the song: “But I won’t do that.”

What is “that”? What does “that” mean? For years now this question has plagued listeners, much to the amusement of Meat Loaf. So I decided that I would undertake the mission to decipher what “that” means. But I needed a reference point, something to base my findings on. And with that in mind, I decided that the best place to look for the answer would be in the epic music video for the song, which is at the bottom of this article. It would be there that I would find the elusive answer to the haunting question.

So join me below readers and I will share with you the many possibilities of what Meat Loaf WON’T do for love! READ MORE

Anchor Bay To Explore Unexplained Deaths Caused By ‘Shadow People’

Matthew Arnold’s big screen debut Shadow People, starring Dallas Roberts and Alison Eastwood is to scare up audiences across North America, the U.K. and Australia/New Zealand, says THR.

Billed as a supernatural thriller, Arnold’s film is based on true story about a small town radio personality who unravels a conspiracy about encounters with mysterious beings. Such “shadow people” were the cause of hundreds of unexplained deaths in the 1980s in the U.S.

Anchor Bay Films has acquired all rights for North America, U.K. and Australia/New Zealand to the picture in a multi-territory deal struck with sales agent Arclight Films.

‘Shadow People’ is a psychological-thriller that explores the rare medical phenomenon known as SUNDS (Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome). Millions of people across the globe have had encounters with what they describe as dark, shadowy creatures that visit them at night. Sometimes horrifying, sometimes deadly, these nocturnal intruders have been described as early as man’s first recorded writings. But what are they? And what do they want?

Small town radio personality Charlie Crowe (Dallas Roberts) is thrust into the mystery when a strange caller relates a terrifying experience during Crowe’s late night call-in show. At the same time, CDC Public Health Agent, Sophie Lancombe (Alison Eastwood), is hot on the trail of the cause of the rare medical condition known as SUNDS. Her investigations entwine her with Charlie’s own discoveries and take them both into a dark world and a decades old cover-up about the phenomenon we now call, The Shadow People. Once you open the door to the mystery…you’ll never sleep soundly again.READ MORE

Second ‘Bunny Game’ Poster Demands That You “Obey”

Autonomy Pictures presents the second of four teaser posters for the upcoming US release of Adam Rehmeier’s relentless horror film The Bunny Game. The unflinching indie film was recently banned in England but will see an Uncut, Uncensored North America limited theatrical (in states that will permit it) and DVD/Blu-ray release in July. Dates and additional information will be announced soon. Keep up-to-date with their official Facebook page. You can click here for the first poster and hi-res imagery.

“‘Bunny Game’ follows a female prostitute (Rodleen Getsic) who hitches a lift with a truck driver. The truck driver (Jeff Renfro) kidnaps the woman, restrains and forcibly strips her, and proceeds to physically and sexually abuse and humiliate her.

When we last heard any news about Adam Rehmeier’s The Bunny Game, it had been rejected for home video release by the BBFC who stated, “It is the Board’s carefully considered view that to issue a certificate to this work, even if confined to adults, would be inconsistent with the Board’s Guidelines, would risk potential harm within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and would accordingly be unacceptable to the public.

Rehmeier responded to Bloody Disgusting at the time stating: “I think ‘The Bunny Game’ is way less disturbing than ‘Pretty Woman’. Somehow it’s more socially acceptable to glamorize prostitution under the guise of a rags-to-riches fairy tale where Richard Gere falls in love with the whore by the end of the film.” He continues, “Rodleen and I didn’t make ‘The Bunny Game’ to glamorize prostitution. It is far from an erotic film. It is a modern cautionary tale grounded in reality.READ MORE

[BD Review] ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ Is A Fun Take On Familiar Tropes

Chernobyl Diaries, the Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) and Brian Witten-produced horror survival film, opens in theaters today from Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. While it’s far from perfect, I can’t say I didn’t have a good time.

‘Chernobyl Diaries’ is actually a pretty fun ride… Is it a great movie? No. Is it a new horror classic? No. But, in all honesty, I can’t say I didn’t have a good time, because I did. And I can’t say I didn’t jump, because I did that too. As a horror fan – if you’re looking for a reasonably well executed take on a set of tropes that you love, you could easily do worse.

Directed by Brad Parker, Chernobyl Diaries stars Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal and Dimitri Diatchenko. In the film, “A group of friends become stranded in an eerie and desolate city. Years before in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster, nature has begun to reclaim everything. As the sun sets on this radioactive ghost town, inhuman cries cut through the night air. It seems they are not alone.

The sequel…is going to be a lot more over-the-top than ‘Machete,’” says Trejo adding a bit about the character’s infinite mojo. “We’ve got Sofia Vergara, who is a star in her own right, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and Zoe Saldana – and guess what? I get to kiss all of ‘em.

Would You Believe There’s Another ‘Prometheus’ Featurette? Ridley Scott Says He Wants To “Scare The Sh*t Out Of You”

Don’t get me wrong. I’m soooo looking forward to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus that I can barely stand it. I can’t wait to see the film. Cannot. Wait. However, there’s only so many featurettes we need, right? This one has some really cool new stuff in it along with a bunch of behind the scenes footage, but you’re probably already in the bag for this movie. I know I am. We will continue to present a lot of this stuff to you – but I’m treating everything from here on out with a “view at your own peril” attitude. There’s no real spoilers here, it just depends on how saturated you want to be beforehand.

Prometheus is in theaters June 8th. As cool as this video is, I understand if you want to wait until after you’ve seen the movie to check it out.

Marilyn Manson Stars In ‘Rubber’ Director Quentin Dupieux’s “Wrong Cops”!

The Internet is a wondrous and magical thing, ain’t it? Case and point: Quentin Dupieux, director of Rubber and Wrong, premiered the first chapter of his upcoming film Wrong Cops at the Cannes Film Festival today. The premiere was at 4pm EST and the video was put online at the same time, giving the world a chance to see what the fuss was about. The 14-minute clip stars shock rocker Marilyn Manson, Mark Burnham (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), and Grace Zabriskie (“Twin Peaks”). If you’re quick, you can also see a cameo from Jon LaJoie (“The League”).

Duke, a crooked and music-mad cop, patrols in Los Angeles’ streets, music blasting and meets a young techno lover, David Dolores Frank. Appalled by the musical tastes of the young adolescent, Duke decides to give him a good music lesson.

The full-length film will presumably be released once all the chapters are released. “It is a filthy 90-minute comedy about some disturbed cops. It is not a sequel to ‘Wrong’. Quentin Dupieux is just lazy with titles,” jokes the official website.

Marilyn Manson also just released a new album entitled Born Villain. You can check out our review here.
